Ordered the Hungry Man's Basket on Uber Eats. You get to choose 3 proteins and it comes with Cajun fries. This basket was a disappointment, primarily because of this "sausage". I chose catfish, shrimp and sausage. I called ahead prior to ordering to see what all came with the basket since it didn't list the amount of shrimp, fish, etc that you would get with the basket. First, the person answering the phone did not know any of the amounts and had to ask someone else. He said 1 filet of catfish, 6 shrimp and 1 sausage. My son wanted chicken tenders and it came with three small tenders. My expectation of this "sausage "was that it was going to be either a grilled or Cajun boiled sausage link. The man on the phone did not describe the sausage as a patty. That was disappointing in itself, but it also was very dry and overcooked. I felt like I would've gotten more value if I had gotten chicken tenders instead of this alleged sausage. The catfish fillet was also small. read more

This is my friends favorite crawfish spot. It's pretty good. Their spice level is pretty spicy, even their medium feels quite spicy. Gratuity is added automatically for large parties. They charge for bibs and gloves which I guess is good to reduce waste but I like when places provide complimentary ones if you want. They have a Thai basil flavor that I like, they also have a garlic butter, kitchen mix. Today when I went one of the shrimps I had went bad and was all black :(... I've been going to this restaurant for a few years now. It always hits the spot! The crawfish, the shrimp, all the add ins. We normally get the kitchen special spicy add egg, corn. For appetizers we get the wings mostly but the crawfish bread is really good. The service is normally fast even during crazy crawfish season. While it's clear that they indicate they automatically charge gratuity with larger parties, they didn't have the decency to tell my cousin that he double tipped. I ordered oyster nachos. They were good but cold. I added 6 wings since it was happy hour. We waited over 15 minutes for 6 wings. The nachos were already cool since it was brought out that way. I wish they would've told me that it took 18 minutes for the wings. Even Popeyes ask if you want to wait on spicy chicken. The food was good but I won't return due to the customer service. Been here several years now and the food has always been great. We order East Coast oysters often because few places in Asia Town carry them. The crawfish has been consistently good, as well as the chef's special fried rice. We usually get the coconut snails, but not this time around. The first time I ever tried Cajun Kitchen was with my friend Tran. She is the only friend that introduced me to crawfish and made me try it! Several years ago, she took me here to eat crawfish, and it was divineeeeee!...whenever I try a new place, and I absolutely love it, the first people I share it with are my family members. The "kitchen special" seasoning is extremely popular there. It's a marinade/sauce for their crawfish, but for CK, it's their "signature" marinade, and therefore is typically the one we go with. My sister and I shared their 6 + 1lb free special, and we ordered the kitchen special, spicy. They mastered the spicy, but I was pretty disappointed with their marinade...and although we didn't mention it, the crawfish size in our batch was pretty small...and a lot of them were soft, to the point of spoiled/bad to eat...I found myself throwing a few out because I was afraid of getting sick after eating them...so I was very selective about the ones I ate. Also, you know that when a restaurant that typically doesn't offer "complimentary" appetizers for checking in on places like Yelp, or 6lb for 1lb free specials, all of a sudden starts offering these things...there's somethin' goin on back of house. After having read some of the reviews, 1 roach story, and the mix/sauces not coming out flavorful like they used to...you start to wonder why a seasoned restaurant that's been open for several years starts to offer comp. appetizers and specials. I never thought I'd say "i've had better crawfish..." but that's kind of what was goin through my mind while I was eating there on Sunday. Customer service is "ok," not the greatest. We didn't have any issues with our bill, but it would've been a nice heads up to let us know that they'd be tacking on an 18% gratuity (4 adults, 2 children). It's fine that they added gratuity, but just as a courtesy, the staff should notify the table in the very beginning so we don't seen an alarming amount on the bill and wonder why the bill is so high, only to find out later that they charged us gratuity already. read more

Last Friday early evening, i ordered the Buy 1 get one on the Chiclen Fried Rice with Shrimp for $19.99 It arrived promptly, but the pan was full of tasteless rice with a few clumps of tasteless hard chicken pieces. So what is this Viet Cajun that everyone in Houston is talking about?! I've had Asian seafood boil before, but I'm sure the trend emerged from the coast. There was quite a wait but we were sure it would be worth the wait. You leave your name on the clipboard and wait for your name to be called. On a late Sunday night, we waited maybe 30-45 minutes. We ended up ordering quite a bit of crawfish because YOLO. We ordered 6 lbs of crawfish for 3 people since it was Buy 5 lb, get 1 lb free. We also added on corn, potatoes and sausage to the add to the crawfish (sold separately) but mixed together. There is quite a list of flavors to choose from, but we ended up getting the medium spicy garlic butter and kitchen special flavors (you can pick two flavors for every 3 lbs, I believe). The crawfish are quite large, with claw meat in every other crawfish. Bibs are complimentary but there is a 25 cent charge per pair of gloves. I loved the garlic butter flavor. The kitchen special was just ok. I think the sweetness ratio was a bit off - it was too citrusy and not enough everything else. We also ordered the Big Ol' Loaded CK fries, which were pretty tasty - however since the servers had forgotten about the fries, we didn't get them until we were already full. The Oyster "Vietnam" really hit the spot because we were starving. The seasoning was spot on! I love garlic and scallions, and if you do too, try the oyster "Vietnam"! We also ordered Boudin Balls, which I didn't particularly care for. There was something in the flavor that didn't sit well with me. There was a situation right behind us where a Caucasian customer was very racially charged and rude and unhappy with our Asian servers. The servers and manager took it in stride and handled it as well as they could in the situation. The racial slurs that man uttered were very disturbing and the way he treated every worker was rude and a reflection of what is still happening everyday in what we think of as a progressive society. It did ruin our appetite but I just wish there could be change in our country. Overall, food is a little pricy but the seafood was fresh and tasty. It's rare that I give a venue 5 stars but this place absolutely deserves every bit of it! I came here during a visit to Houston for a friend's wedding. A friend traveling with me suggested the place after seeing it on TV. Initially I was very skeptical by the way she kept describing the place as being "viet-Cajun" which honestly sounds disgusting. The only things Vietnamese about this place are the owners, workers, a few of the oysters specials, some of the seasoning and maybe the decor. My party and I tried several of the dishes including the street corn, fried crawfish, crawfish bread, blackened catfish and shrimp, fried rice, and the blue crab and Dungeness crabs. I highly recommend that you try the Lemon Pepper fried crabs! Amazing!!! I don't know how they managed to get the flavor into the freakin crab legs but they did!!! Even during off season, they would always try to have live crawfish flown in and sold at reasonable pricing. I like that they also have medium blue crabs and jumbo blue crabs for preference. Personally, I always get crawfish and medium blue crabs here. This is also one of the places I take people that are not huge boiled seafood lovers because they have so many other options to eat from.
