poorly prepared and over priced. Excessively spicy when not described as such. Crab cake picture shows 2 crab cakes. You only get one.

Wow. It is easy to see why Charlie Gitto's has garnered 4 1/2 stars overall on this site. It was…read morethat good. I was taught by brother that you should book your first dinner reservation as after flying all day, one is tired, and not able to make good decisions...hence eating at a TGI Fridays in New Orleans on our first night. I have heard about that since. Charlie's had the perfect vibe going as it has a great reputation. Wendy was also simply amazing and shared may stories of St Louis and was just a tremendous server. The only thing that tricked us was the Toasted Ravioli. It has meat in it, and my wife is vegetarian. The Arancini was terrific and the table bread was also quite tasty. My wife had the Manicotti and I had the Chicken Lemonata. So great. The bottle of the house Gitto's Red was the perfect wine as well. A great experience at a restaurant that is a legend in St. Louis and I am glad it was our first meal in the city.

The vibe inside was warm, cozy, and sophisticated. There is also a small patio area that seemed to have a much different vibe. We were seated in a busy area of the restaurant, so there was frequent traffic passing by our table, which took away from the vibe a bit. It didn't bother us but I can see how it could bother others. Everyone we interacted with from the hostess to our waiter Brian and the other servers passing by our table, was friendly and welcoming. The manager even stopped to chat with us while we waited for our Uber. Now for the food, we started with the toasted ravioli we had heard so much about and it was good. For the main dish, we went with the lobster spaghetti which was one of the day's specials. The portion size was generous making it the perfect dish to share with my son. The dish was filled with lobster, shrimp, and other seafood, all tossed in a rich buttery sauce. We both really enjoyed it. Even though we were full from dinner, we didn't want to leave without trying dessert so we took a slice of carrot cake back to the hotel. It made a great late night snack. The cake was moist and the cream cheese icing was delicious. Overall, this is a nice spot for an Italian dinner.

The high chair for our baby accomodationed these tables and the staff welcomed us in nicely. We really appreciated a nice restaurant welcoming in A: kids B: us after a Zoo day. We loved how they had the garage door open for the air to come in on the nice day. The bar / high top are had plenty of space and was very comfortable. They had a great happy hour around 3pm, both our appetizers were on the happy hour menu, as well as our Pinot Grigio drinks. The food was excellent, we had focaccia bread, and fried calamaris. We didn't have them but the wagu sliders and chicken lollipops both were popular at the other table. We also got a white chocolate tiramisu to go that was fantastic. Great bread = Great dessert Really appreciated our waitress / bartender that day, she said she had four grown kids of her own, as well as appreciated the rest of the staff. Thank you for a great meal and service! See you again soon

I made a reservation ahead of time and when we arrived, our table was ready and our server was quick to bring over water and make some recommendations on apps. None of us were drinking cocktails that night, but we did order some tea and sodas along with an order of arancini and an order of the chicken lollipops! Once our apps were brought over, we talked with our server a bit about entree recommendations and with his help, we all were quite happy with the decisions we made and we knew that we could share with one another so that we could all try multiple dishes! The apps were so good, I loved the arancini so much and enjoyed the sauces for dipping. And the chicken lollipops were so unique. Crunchy on the outside and juicy inside. Basically, chicken wings, but the presentation was so unique. When our meals arrived, everything looked so good and fresh. The pasta was perfect and the greens were fresh. The salmon was cooked just right. Everything was just lovely and the flavors were top notch! While we did not finish everything, it was nice to be able to pack some leftovers and reheating them did not mess up any of the flavors. All in all, this was a great spot for dinner and I am going to visit again soon.

I loved the lemon and the capers. Our server was kind and helpful. I definitely recommend making a reservation because we went at noon on a Saturday and it was poppin! I'll be back :)

The interior is nothing fancy, but it has that standard charm of The Hill. The service was excellent, we had Katie. She could have told us she went to WashU and majored in waitressing and we would have believed her. Prompt, professional but slightly personable. Good combo. The food was GREAT. We couldn't decide which was better, the Chicken Picatta or the Chicken Speidini. They were both super high quality poultry mixed with a rich and flavorful sauce, yum. Katie even let us make the side shells "pink", by mixing marinara and Alfredo for us. The only reason I'm subtracting a star is that our salads were a bit wilted -- my Mom kept running into some weird looking greens. Regardless, we'll be back.

My husband dropped me off and went to find a parking spot. I stood at the hostess stand for close to five minutes waiting for someone to take me to a table. A number of the staff saw me, but I guess it wasn't their job to help me. I was finally seated and the rest of our group arrived. Noah was our server and he was really good! He was professional, but we also got to see his personality. If you come here, ask for him! The ambiance is fine. There's nothing special as far as that goes. There was kind of loud music coming from somewhere near the dining room and I was very aware of the bass. Now for the food! My husband and I split a wedge salad. It was my favorite part of my dinner. Three of the five of us liked our meals. Those meals were the cannelloni, chicken parmigiana, and linguine tutto mare. Unfortunately, none of those were mine! My husband had the chicken risotto and it wasn't great. It would have been better if it didn't taste like licorice. We all think there had to have been some anise in it to taste like it did. Licorice tasting pasta dishes aren't a thing as far as I know. I had the short rib ragu pappardelle. It was not good at all. Those of us that tasted it couldn't pinpoint was wasn't good, It really was pretty bad. We were there for my mother-in-law's 97th birthday and wanted to keep everything chill and pleasant so we didn't ask to see the manager, etc. I was a bit surprised that I wasn't asked about my meal when they cleared my full bowl and I didn't want it boxed up. I had been told this Bartolino's locwas the worst one, but it worked best logistically. We will definitely won't be back.

Respectable Americanized-Italian restaurant on The Hill…read more.. I was in town for work with the ole ball and chain, and we met some friends at MOTH for dinner on a Friday... Quint lil restaurant nestled in the middle of the STL Italian district. The restaurant looks like a big Italian family room and smelled like my G-Ma's kitchen. The staff super super friendly and accommodating. As for the food, it was solid Italian but I wouldn't call it "authentic", but more Americanized Italian fare (albeit the toasted raviolis were as good as advertised). We really like that the staff didn't rush you... Good pacing with dinner and no pushiness to turn tables. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the price... $250 for 4 people is expensive regardless of it being STL. While I still contend Gian-Tony's is the best Italian restaurant OTH, MOTH was good and offers an enjoyable dinner experience with friends and family... It's easy to see why they've been a successful family run business for so many years.
