We came to the foundry food hall for ox tails and discovered $ Hens Creole Kitchen as well. On this adventure we hit-up 3 spots inside the food hall. First I have to pint out that the customer service in reference to the employees acknowledging customers standing in line is HIGLY LACKING. We watched as groups of customers ahead of us and after us stood at the counter and were NEVER acknowledged but still waiting there in line to place an order and eventually just walked off. Which is sad and disappointing, but OK I guess if your business generates that much business to make-up for lost revenue. Also, you really have to be paying attention even if you are standing right there at the counter when your food is done because they way they are calling out completed orders is so inaudible it's ridiculous. ONLY because I watched the creation of our order from beginning to end and slightly heard a resemblance of his name that I was able to determine our order was ready, but I also had to ask at the end of the counter as well. Now once you get past the lack of customer service and ordering, the food is AMAZING!!!! Incredibly delicious. We ordered the gouda smoked grits with catfish, shrimp and crawfish I also forget the name of the dish itself. But he really wanted catfish and grits. We watched as the man made our order, completing each induvial section, layering flavor upon flavor for everything to be combined in one container. OMGGGGGGG, utterly mouth watering. We literally just walked to the table to the left of their stand to take pics and try. People kept asking us where did we get our food, what was it and how'd it taste. The grits were thick and seasoned to perfection poured over top the catfish, which we would get on the side next time so as not to hinder the crispiness of the catfish. But everything was perfect!!!! Made to order, hot-n-fresh. We would definitely return......
4 Hens is located inside the City Foundry. They have an extensive creole inspired menu. Pricing for the food is a little on the expensive side. The food I saw other customers getting looked delicious and was decent portion sizes. I didn't try any food, I did however purchase strawberry tea and an Arnold Palmer. The strawberry the had strawberry puree added to it. It was sweet but not overly sweet. The Arnold Palmer was made perfectly. You could taste the lemonade more than the tea.. For it to not be busy, service was a little slow.ill come back to try some food.
Recently tried the Shrimp Po'Boy at 4 Hens Creole Kitchen while visiting the City Foundry. Stopped in on a Friday night during dinner and they had a steady flow of customers at the register each time I was in their vicinity. Service was friendly and efficient. It was apparent the staff was doing their best to get freshly cooked orders as quickly (and accurately) as possible. The wait time after placing my order was reasonable and I had a warm, delicious sandwich with crispy fries to enjoy. The Po'Boy was a good size with plenty of shrimp. The remoulade sauce was delicious and brought out a nice flavor to the sandwich overall. Pricing was a little high for the meal, but the taste and quality could justify the cost alone. 4 Hens Creole Kitchen is definitely worth a stop. So many more tasty things to try next time!
Today, near St Louis, we visited The Foundry. This is an interesting place. The old foundry has been turned into a huge food court with tons of awesome choices to eat at. All are good choices. He chose the Creole restaurant 4 Hens. It took awhile to get our order since the line moved really slow. Each person took at least 3-4mjn to ring out for some reason. I got the Gumbo, and my better half got shrimp on the bayou (fried tomatoes and shrimp). Both dishes were very tasty! My gumbo had tons of flavor and ingredients... veggie and meat. Not spicy at all though if that's what you are looking for. Her shrimp and fried tomatoes had a delicious creole sauce! The fried shrimp and tomatoes weren't too greasy either. Over all we really enjoyed our food. Only issue was how long it took to order, and it took 20min to get our two entrees. Def worth checking out if you have a lot of time to spare
Located inside of City Foundry (a fancy modern food court a short hop from Downtown), 4 Hens Creole brings a taste of the South to St. Louis. I was excited to try it out after being recommended by an online food guide and a friend who'd visited recently. I went with the crawfish and grits while my friend went for the menage a trois. The grits were really good, while the crawfish were still really gamey -- it didn't taste cleaned...however, my friend really enjoyed their menage a trois. I thought the shrimp was really flavourful, and the fries were amazing. I just wish their dishes were consistent in quality. Overal, a good experience -- just a bit of a hit or mess with what you order.
What a find! This venue within City Foundry food hall is a must visit if you enjoy cajun/creole flavors. I asked the cashier what would allow me a little bit of everything? He suggested the Mardi Gras (which I no longer see on their menu?), "Big Easy Fries topped with andouille sausage, crawfish, chicken and shrimp served in our big boat." It was a LOT of food, but dang was it delicious! The opportunity to add a glass of wine from the central bar and select a dessert from another venue just unleveled my meal entirely. I highly recommend stopping by City Foundry food hall and definitely work in a visit to 4 Hens; I know I'll be back!
I love this place. The food is always great and the service is excellent. It usually takes me a while to figure out what I want to eat because everything sounds so good and I'm indecisive. This place usually has a small line but it moves fast and is worth the wait. Once you have placed your order they will call you when it's ready to be picked up a the counter. I had the fried chicken basket and it was great. The fries were a little salty but I'll just ask to hold the seasoning salt next time. My friend had the Creole VooDoo Queen chicken and it was served on top of fries. It had a quick heat to it but it was great. They also have some of the best lemonade. Until next time....
This was my first time in the foundry and 4 Hens really caught my attention. We weren't trying to have a whole meal so just got the shrimp appetizer and we were not disappointed! Flavors were really good and also came with cajun ranch. staff were very friendly. It was a bit expensive for the quantity but can't complain about the quality!
It is located in City Foundry. They had a secret menu so I ordered Voodoo Queen Chicken sandwich. It had sausage, crawfish, chicken and shrimp topped with voodoo queen sauce. Everything went well together although I wish the bread was fresh. The customer service was excellent. They provided a quite few condiments for us to have. I would definitely go back and try other things on the menu.

Food: Food cook to order. I opted for ( Down in Bayou) their fried green tomato & shrimp Glad I did, it was cooked to perfection. Scorching hot and delicious. The cook told me I would like it, and he was right. Soup- Didn't really care for it, honestly tasted like can soup. Service: A little slow, but to be expected. Similarly to the other restaurants in the Foundry, employees are either on their phone via bluetooth or seems like not looking for business. We were waiting to place an order but the person who was taking the order is also the same person cooking. I think he was focus on cooking and talking with whoever was on the phone. A second employee came from the back to assist once more customer started to come. Honestly service got better once I started to snap photos. Ambiance - LGBTQIA flag being displayed. Welcoming Areas for improvement: I don't think think their menu does any justice in explaining the food. I saw a couple orders that looks really delicious but not how I had imagined it to look. * Greet customer and let them know you will be right with them. *Consider adding rice dishes, especially for take out orders. Fries doesn't travel well. Recommendation: Try them out the next time you are in the Foundry! read more
Okay. Just okay. I ordered the crawfish and grits to go, which was onthe runny and bland side. The food is seasoned, but it lacked depth. And you're not going to City Foundry's food hall for a cheap meal, but $20 for the portion size, plus an undisclosed 10% service charge just to include a lid seemed a bit much. Anyway, 4 Hens Creole was something between underwhelming and disappointing. The service was more or less fine though. And they were unfortunately out of bread pudding. read more

Wanted something light and they had done small dishes. Grabbed the Slapp'n Shrimp which had creole spices in a sauce coating. Served with a small pile of greens. Consider it an appetizer sized portion. But could still share if you got many small plates. Only $11 read more

I ordered the Big Easy with shrimp and andouille sausage ($26). Very good. Expect to wait 15 - 20 minutes for food. It's cooked to order, so it's hot and fresh. Large portions. read more

RUN to the City Foundry to check out 4 Hens Creole Kitchen. Possibly the best comfort food I've ever had! What we got: "Ménage Trois"--- OMG!! So amazing Slappin shrimp, fried green tomatoes, chicken dawlings drizzled with dirty mustard. Served over a bed of fries "Swamp Thang" Succotash soup topped with sautéed shrimp, crawfish tails, (& make sure to add on the andouille sausage!) N'awlins Bread Pudding With caramel and pralines My only wish is that I would have found them over the winter so the spicy goodness could have warmed my soul! Let me first start with the owner and chef. Her personal welcome and attention to each customer was A+. Her recommendation of menu items to try was spot on. I didn't mention to her the fact that I was from the other side of Missouri, but all the same she made me feel like I was family. A regular so to speak. So next to the menu item I tried. The shrimp and grits. DELICIOUS!! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the grits were as creamy as they could be. The Smoked Gouda set it apart. With only my second time trying shrimp and grits, each time has won me over. I plan to stop back by on my next visit to the Lou, to try another menu item that was suggested. I had a delicious lunch at 4 Hens. They have a pretty big menu for such a small place and I finally decided on a fried green tomato po' boy. I had to wait a bit for my food, but it came out hot and was definitely worth the wait. The fried green tomatoes were breaded perfectly and didn't lose the breading when I bit into them. And the remoulade was so good! It was a huge sandwich and ended up pretty messy since it was stuffed full, but I loved it. The seasoned fries and the dirty mustard were tasty too. read more

I already can't wait for another trip back for such yummy food! I'm not a huge seafood eater but their Big Easy fries with sausage was one of the best things I've eaten in so long! You're in a cafeteria type setting which leaves a lot of open space for groups so bring all of your friends! The service was also super quick! Definitely give this place a try for some yummy munchies! read more
I ordered the Big Easy and it looked amazing, I was excited to get my first bite. So a 5 star for presentation as I ordered andouille sausage and shrimp on my dish. When I took my first bite it was drowning with the sauce as I was unable to taste the flavors of each item in dish. There should be more of balance (food to sauce) but the sauce was too much added on the dish. The portions were huge so you can definitely share or you will have leftovers. There was plenty of meat in the entrée. The service was okay. Since it's in the foundry the ambiance was cool. The price was a bit pricey and I actually do not mind paying for food IF it's delicious but the sauce being soo much made it almost impossible to enjoy. But I still ate that twenty something price meal. I paid $48 for two people and may try once more and ask for lighter sauce as I feel it does have potential to be better. read more

Eating here you are not only supporting a local business, but one that is powered by 4 amazing ladies. 4 Hens was the first restaurant I dined at The City Foundry. It's going to be a hard act for the others to follow. I started out with Fried Green Tomatoes that were crispy and juicy. I was amazed how delightful they were. I normally don't eat tomatoes when they are locally out of season, but these satisfied my taste buds. My entree was the Swamp Thang and all I can say is, go order yourself a bowl. It was full of shrimp, crawfish and okra. After a few bites, I felt like I was in New Orleans. The service is friendly and the food was made fresh. I had a minor wait time, but when your food is made fresh and taste this good, it is worth the wait. read more

4 Hens is located at the back of the newly opened food hall in the city next to Ikea. Plenty of free parking is available upon my visit. I love the atmosphere there. It's perfect for groups of any size. Since many restaurant options are available, I get to try different types of food from different restaurants at the food hall. I ordered the Swamp Thang from 4 Hens. It's so delicious. It's swamped with tons of goodness from shrimps, crawfish to beans and okra. The flavor is right on, especially after a few drops of the hot sauce. I am certainly going back to try other items!! read more

4 Hens Creole Kitchen is a great addition to the City Foundry and I hope others try this spot out soon! The Swamp Thang was fantastic - perfect balance of Cajun seasoning with okra, beans, rice & they do not short you on Crawfish Tails or Shrimp by any means! Both the Crawfish Tails & Shrimp were cooked well and seasoning beautifully. I would have even loved it if we could kick up the heat even more, but I know it's not everyone's favorite I also enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes with Creole Ranch - and, I admit, not usually a fan of ranch at all, but this Creole ranch was a perfect compliment to the Fried Green Tomatoes. The tomatoes themselves were sliced thin and the breading was light and seasoned nicely to bring out all components well. I look forward to coming here again! read more
4 hens was one of the best lunch/dinner experiences i've had. I came here for my birthday and was greeted by a kind gentleman who also offered a sample of delicious green tomato, then gave us some recommendations. the food was presented beautifully, and the flavor was unbelievable. the shrimp and grits were dripping with creole creaminess and the smoked gouda in the grits was art. he was so kind and made an INCREDIBLE praline bread pudding. one of the best i've ever had. 5 stars all around for hot, fresh, flavorful fantastic food with great hospitality. read more

Omgg... a slice of new orleans so close to my home! I got the swamp thing, fried green tomatoes, and an arnold palmer... SO DANG GOOD! I love that 4 hens is Black-Female Owned and the food and service is top tier! I went a little before they closed so they were busy but the service wasn't impacted at all! But the food: HOLY FREAKIN MOLY! Biting into the fried green tomatoes was beyond a delight. They were super juicy.. and didn't NEED the remoulade... however the remoulade definitely stepped it up a notch. And the swamp thing.... The okra-Fresh... the crawfish and shrimp-Fresh... the entire succotash tickled every portion of my palate. I will definitely be back because that po-boy is screaming my name! read more

Yum, yum, and more yum! HUGE portions that match the price tag on the items. Everything was seasoned well and the creamy sauce they put on everything was delicious. The wait for this was about 30 mins, but everyone wanted a meal from this kitchen. I would definitely go back! O read more
