If you're neither of those things and wondering if it's worth a visit, I'd say you're better off sticking with options like French Market in Brookside. For food options, check out Cafe Gratitude, Whole Harvest Kitchen, or naturally vegan options like Blue Nile Cafe. The cupcakes here are generally high quality and have a great crumb to them, BUT I would recommend getting one cupcake of any given flavor first and making sure you like it before buying up a dozen or ordering a cake. The cupcakes here can be hit or miss, with some having a mushier texture or muddier flavor to them. Apart from the consistency issue, the only reason I wouldn't recommend The Littlest Bake Shop's pastries is because of the frosting. The frosting here is on the stiff, sugary side, which makes for pretty cupcakes but less than ideal mouthfeel. If you prefer frosting on the lighter side, this place likely isn't for you. I was a little bit more disappointed by the food. I ordered the Grilled Cheeze and the Littlest Big Brunch, and while everything was okay, nothing stood out. The greens on the side of the Grilled Cheeze were just spring mix without any kind of dressing, and the gravy was a weird gummy texture. Both dishes were way overpriced compared to the portion size, and the salt and pepper potatoes were the best part of each. Overall, I wanted to love this place much more than I actually did and would come back for a cupcake but not for the food.

My wife got "The Littlest Big Brunch" which consists of a tofu scramble, biscuit or toast, potatoes and a sausage patty. Everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) was absolutely delicious. The food is made from scratch so it does take a little while to come out, but it's well worth the wait. Staff were friendly and attentive and kept our waters full. As a gluten glutton, I can't believe how flavorful all the GF options are. I love that everything here is vegan and gluten free. I will definitely dine here again!

With every visit to Andre's I become more and more of a fan…read more My first taste came from when I worked at the Nelson many years ago. Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. It's the kind of business you can feel good about supporting and I'll be back!

I'd like to give a HUGE thank-you to the folks at Andre's for saving my Christmas!…read moreI wanted to buy chocolates for my best friend and realized (on Christmas Eve) that not all chocolates are gluten-free. My friend has celiac disease, so it's important to me to ensure my gifts to her meet her dietary restrictions. I checked online and discovered that almost all of Andre's chocolates are gluten-free and--better yet--they were open on Christmas Eve until 4 pm. So I dashed over after work, arriving at 3:40, and the folks behind the counter were all so kind and so helpful. I explained what I needed and they showed me the ready-made boxes of chocolates available--but then offered to put one together for me right then, to make sure that we chose exactly what she wanted and that every chocolate was gluten-free. They guided me through the choices, telling me the flavors that were in some of the selections, and giving their recommendations based on my friend's tastes. How nice of them!! I walked out close to the stroke of 4 pm, with the perfect box of chocolates in a lovely gift box. Hurray!! I really appreciate the staff's kindness, and going the extra distance for my friend, at the very end of their work day before the holiday started. Thank you SO much to everyone at Andre's, and Merry Christmas!

Despite arriving five minutes early for a 3 p.m. reservation, the hostess treated us dismissively, as if she forgot we were there because it was happy hour. She seated us at a cramped table for two, even though we were a party of three, and then hovered around us throughout the evening, clearly out of place. Once we were finally seated, the service was abysmal, 20 minutes just to get drinks, another 15 to even place our order, and then over an hour and forty mins total waiting for food. During this entire time, we saw other tables seated after us being served promptly. Then, to make matters worse, the server intentionally dropped our straws on the floor and did nothing about it, and when we finally asked for a manager, she made empty promises but disappeared. After an hour and 40 minutes, we still had no food. Our simple salad order meant to come out first was delayed, and even the dressing substitution felt like an act of bias, as I was given ranch instead of the of the vinaigrette it came with. This was no accident. This was a calculated, discriminatory pattern. As prominent Black women in the community, we should not have to endure this. I have tried to reach corporate(Darden Restaurants) multiple times with no response. This must be addressed. I will not return, and I encourage others in the community to stand up for themselves as well. Capital Grille this is unacceptable behavior and has occurred way too many times with a certain demographic of people!

The first thing we noticed was that on Friday nights, there appears to be a much younger (and louder) crowd. The wait time was minimal, but upon being seated, we waited longer than normal for a server to arrive to take our orders. Once we placed them, we had to remind our server three times to bring items like simple syrup for my husband's Old Fashioned and ranch dip for his fries. His burger was served with a thick slice of tomatoes- no lettuce or pickles- and by the time we managed to catch a host to ask for silverware, my salmon had grown cold. The sushi rolls that we ordered as an appetizer came well after our main course arrived, and even though the restaurant did not appear to be terribly packed, we were never able to locate our server when we actually DID need her. Had the music been a bit louder, I wouldn't have been able to tell this place apart from any local club on Westport. Terribly, terribly disappointed in an established that's located in such an upscale area of our city. We considered returning on a weekday, but the experience has caused us to rethink that as well. We likely will not return unless and until some really improvements are made.

Every single thing we…read moretried was outstanding, but the Prime Beef Rib was on another level -- tender, smoky, flavorful and absolutely massive. Easily one of the best barbecue dishes we've ever had. The barbecued shrimp were another surprise favorite. Perfectly seasoned with a rich, buttery sauce that had everyone at the table reaching for more. And the carrot cake? Incredible. Moist, rich, and the perfect way to end the meal. We had also never tried burnt ends before, and now we completely understand the hype. They were smoky, caramelized little bites of heaven and honestly to die for. What made the experience even better was our waitress, Serenity. She was absolutely magnificent -- attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel genuinely welcomed from start to finish. Great service can elevate a meal, and she truly did. Between the amazing food, warm atmosphere, and exceptional service, Jack Stack absolutely lived up to Kansas City's legendary barbecue reputation. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.

A few months ago my sister and I hosted a baby shower for our other sister and after looking around an options we decided to go with McLains. It was a smaller group, and we were doing a brunch theme, and our sister LOVES sweets. That paired with our desire to support local, and our shared love of McLains, this was just the most obvious choice. We ended up ordering a cake and first of all I have to say their cake flavor choices are insane - I think we settled on a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling (YUM), but I don't think you can go wrong here. We also ordered one of their pre-set pastry bundles for pick up and honestly everything was wonderful. I think I placed the order about a week out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. What pushed this experience into five star category for me? Just the friendliness of the staff, the serving tools they send you home with, and how thoughtful everyone was. The food was also really just exactly what we needed and it was so good there were hardly any leftovers, I think the kids cleared us out by lunch! At any rate, if you're on the hunt for a great spot to support for your next brunch event consider McLains - they won't let you down!
