However, I was surprised by the extra $15 charge when I changed the decoration from a white flower to a gold one -- especially since the flower was fake. It felt hard to justify that price increase for such a small change. My bigger concern was the packaging. For a $100 cake, I expected a much sturdier and more polished box. Instead, the cake came in a flimsy cake box with what looked like part of a garbage bag taped over the corner. I had to carry it up the stairs at the Multnomah Whiskey Library, and I was genuinely nervous about the box giving out. I just happened upon the place while running into a store nearby. I assumed at first glance it was a "special order only" type bakery, but then noticed the cupcake display case so inside I went. They had approximately 10 cupcake options, and since I was just looking for a lil surprise dessert for the hubby and myself, I decided upon the chocolate Oreo and a strawberry with vanilla frosting. I wanted a red velvet cake with a specific Japanese cartoon character on it. I exchanged a couple emails (including an image of the character) as well as a phone call to clarify filling etc. When I went to pick up the cake it was ready when promised and the design was spot on. The character depiction was excellent and the sides of the cake were frosted in a very elegant and lovely color. When we took the cake home and ate it the actual cake was wonderful! This shop saved me. I needed a graduation cake for my son and had tried to connect with another baker for two weeks with no result. I called Cake It 3 days prior to my event and they agreed to make the cake, no problem! I ordered red velvet with cream cheese frosting and buttercream outside. The cake was really good, almost Rustic-homemade taste and texture. Everyone loved the cream cheese frosting but not the buttercream. They did some small fondant decorations. I was really excited for a new local cake shop. We have been in twice now, once right after the grand opening. Was disappointed in the cupcakes - pretty dense and dry. We also got a slice of Mocha cake. The mocha cake was by far the best of what we tried. We went back to try again to see if it was just grand opening issues, but the cake still wasn't great and the filling is almost next to nothing. The most redeeming quality is that the cake slices are only $5 which is funny because there are only 4-5 slices in a cake but the whole cake costs $35.
