    Cake

This bakery did our wedding cake in 2021 with their "secret sauce" filling that I loved more than gourmet buttercream. It was a gorgeous huge three tier cake with impeccablel classic frosting. It reminded me of a classy version of my childhood Barbie wedding cake. I even had the photo of us kissing while about to take our first bite enlarged on canvas and it sits above our mantle because the cake detail is so professional and impressive.

Birthday cake!!!! Gorgeous and tasty and perfect!

The egg was cooked perfectly and each ingredient complimented the next in a great texture with the egg cooked perfectly. We ate outside with a high chair and it was great. With our drinks, we also shared the halawa and it was fantastic. The small sized halawa was perfect for 2 people. The tea and coffee came with sugar as well which was nice, just a great experience. The cost of the meal was also fantastic for what you get. It was totally worth every penny. I recommend you check this spot out, even if you're picky like me!

We came on a Thursday morning right at opening (9am) and were able to snag a table inside for our group. The space is small inside but they do have a few outside tables too which is nice to enjoy in the summer time. Parking is standard street parking right on Broadway. We started out with Turkish coffees and Iraqi Tea. The presentation was beautiful and the complex flavors were so nice to wake our taste buds. We ordered the Beef Mix, Lamb and Eggs, Pastry #2 (hot dog, mushroom, cheese), baclava, and their special halawa to try. They were cooking right by the counter so the whole space filled with delicious aromas while we were waiting for our food. We all had full bellies between 3 adults and 2 kids and took home leftovers! You MUST get the Beef Mix! I don't even know how to describe how delicious this dish is to give it justice but it was definitely the group favorite. It came with salad and yummy boat shaped bread to scoop up all the flavorful goodness. Their house hot sauce took it to the next level. The baklava was the perfect amount of sweetness with the coffee and tea. It was our first time trying a halawa and we all loved the dense texture with a sweet taste. Inside is clean, bright but impersonal and generic. Maybe they just haven't had the time to put their stamp on it yet. The upsides - there is table service now and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I've ordered their Country Fried Steak with scrambled eggs multiple times now. Still a very good steak and sausage gravy. Either the steak breading of the sausage gravy was maybe a touch more salty than usual. The eggs were disappointing- scrambled eggs should be fluffy due to constantly stirring over low heat in a pan - and previously they always had been. This time they were a overcooked dense, dry puck, It was as if the egg mixture was poured out on the flattop, left and flipped once. Still eatable with hot sauce. Over all - they did hit a ball, but definitely no home run. It's unlikely that I'll be back.

We had our little dog with us so I was happy to see they had a dog friendly patio. It was a warm day and the staff immediately brought her out a bowl of water, which was a thoughtful gesture and shows the level of service they offer to their patrons. Our server, I believe her name was Casey, was lovely. She was friendly and seemed to know a lot of the regulars by name which gave the restaurant a welcoming feel. I ordered the Danish pancakes (Æbleskiver), and they were absolutely delicious. They came with house-made lemon curd and lingonberry jam, and both were incredible. The lemon curd was rich and creamy with just the right amount of tartness, while the lingonberry jam added a sweet-tart flavor that paired perfectly with the fluffy pancakes. Four of them were more than enough to fill me up. My husband ordered the Pytt i Panna, a traditional Swedish hash made with crispy potatoes, bell peppers, and onions, topped with two soft-baked eggs and served with pickled beets and Nordic rye toast. It was hearty, comforting, and full of flavor. The pickled beets were a nice contrast to the savory hash, and everything on the plate was scrumptious! Between the delicious food, welcoming service, and dog-friendly patio, we had a very nice time and it was a good send-off before our walk through the woods to find Ole Bolle. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in the area.

We started with the Danish pancake donuts- lovely in that they were both savory and sweet, comes with lemon curd and jam. The lefse breakfast was really interesting - a layered thicker 'crepe' with cheese and egg. The fish plate was our family favorite - an epic collection of shrimp, mini shrimps, gravlax, pickled herring (our favorite) various breads, crackers and sauces. Very well presented, fun to eat, and enough to share. We also ordered the Swedish meatballs - rich hearty but small and few (5 total). Luckily, we had plenty of other food and this dish was great with sherry mushroom sauce and a delicious potato latke-like side. Our server was also incredibly personable, friendly, and helpful in our food choices which we always appreciate.

When we moved to Oregon, it was under construction but we kept hearing how good it was - in fact, all the local FB pages would gush about it when a newcomer would ask about the best restaurant. And once it finally opened, we tried it, but it was kind of like Marie calendars and Shari's, but local. Ok, but not what we had expected for all the hype. So, after trying a handful of options it seemed Bannings was the only place we could still get breakfast so I begrudgingly agreed. Well, I was mistaken! I got the breakfast enchiladas and a strawberry orange mimosa. Now, the mimosa - I'll get that out of the way first. It was weird - it looked curdled. It just had mashed strawberry at the bottom and it actually was quite good. I'd do a normal mimosa in the future, but good. But the enchiladas - delicious. Like, I'll come back again and again for those. And they didn't charge me extra for the avocado, which I think is righteous because I asked for no hash browns. But not all places would do that, they'd nickel and dime even if you passed on one side for another. Additionally; my husband likes a savory breakfast and a sweet one too - so he often gets two breakfasts and though he may not eat all of both he gets that savory and sweet. Well, the omelettes come with 3 pancakes. Perfection. And, I took 3 bites of them - I usually might try 1 or not at all - they are very very good. Last - it did not break the bank. I've about ruled out breakfast out because of how crazy expensive the places that should be reasonable are. This was reasonable - PLEASE DONT CHANGE!! All in all 5 stars, will be back for breakfast; and hey - when I'm wrong I can admit I was wrong! Give them a try if you haven't!
