CAKE did an amazing job for creating a Star Wars birthday cake! I contacted them via email and they responded very quickly. I described what I envisioned for the cake design. They helped me and asked me to send photos and even offered to add a Yoda figure on jt. Yoda was crafted with excellence and stays true to the actual Yoda. He even had star shaped eyes which I thought was a nice touch. What an amazing job! They gave me a choice between the Yoda or a Jedi. The cake turned out even better than the photo I shared with them. I showed up to pick up the cake and the lady greeted me right away and handed me the cake. She even offered to walk it to my car. The cake was enough to feed at least 20 people (probably even more) and cost $200 ($10 per person per slice). CAKE definitely has great cake design skills and the flavor was delicious! I got marble flavor with vanilla buttercream and added fresh strawberries. Would certainly come here again for a great cake design and amazing tasting cake! This review is a little late, but I was reminiscing with my husband about our wedding anniversary coming up, and realized I needed to give praise to this amazing bakery. To begin this review, I need to mention that initially, I did not want a cake at all. We had plans for a very non-traditional wedding and I'm not a huge dessert person. When I do eat sweets, cake and pastry are not my first choice. However, after not being able to decide on a dessert option, I decided to get a cake, if even just for my guests. We also were coming from out of state and tasting was not really an option, so costumer service was very crucial in this situation. Because I'm not a cake person, I was picky. I had eaten pistachio cake that I had really enjoyed from a deli that catered a reception I went to years prior, and I initially tried to get a cake there, but it was too difficult to coordinate. Not many other bakeries in the area offered pistachio as a flavor, but upon my search, I stumbled upon CAKE. They responded to my inquiry almost immediately and asked a lot of detailed questions of what I was looking for in flavor and decor. This gave me ease, as I was not going to see or taste my cake until the day of the wedding. I chose espresso filling, because my husband loves espresso and I had already chosen the cake flavor. Our colors were emerald and charcoal, so the flavors even fit with the wedding palette. I had asked for green palm leaves and black fondant to match our wedding theme. Once I saw the cake, it was exactly what I had imagined. I could not wait to taste it, and once I had, it was even better than I had imagined! There was no synthetic taste at all to the cake, and the espresso filling was a perfect balance of sweet and bitter to the nutty flavor of the pistachio. Though the wedding itself was perfect, guests were raving about the cake, (that I initially never wanted) and it made me so happy! Even months later, I was asked how the flavors came together so well and how I found the bakery. As someone who does not eat cake, I must say that I absolutely adored this one. While the cake looked lovely for our wedding, we were not impressed with any of the flavors and were extremely disappointed with how DRY the actual cake was. It was dry for the tasting and dry the wedding day of as if it were sitting in a fridge for too long. We asked our guests for their thoughts and most of them shared similar opinions and thought the actual cake was "just okay" and dry. We ended up throwing out our topper without touching it as neither of us wanted to eat the cake when it was fresh let alone the next day or a year later. Such a waste... If we're spending hundreds on a wedding cake it better taste and hold up better than anything made from home (this one definitely did not). Unfortunately our venue would not let us choose our cake vendor so we had no choice otherwise we would have gone with another cake or cake-like vendor after the tasting. read more

It was super disappointing & the cake was so dry that while cutting the cake everything was falling apart. The outer layer separated from the cake completely. It was so embarrassing. I emailed twice then walked into the bakery directly to see if they would be able to create a custom cake I was advised to email the owner with details and that the date of June 14th was available and they would be able to accommodate. I emailed the owner and received no response so I called and spoke to the owner who reassured me that the date was available to meet my request and that someone would be in touch with a quote. I received an email with a quote then a few days later and then another email saying they can't make the cake because they are busy. The Fabulous Cake Girls were amazing!!! The banana chocolate truffe was to die for!!! I couldn't stop talking about the cake and still to this day want more. Communication was great, they exceeded the design I wanted and the cake was so delicious and moist. They also had no problem adding the gold details we requested. Went with this bakery for my wedding as they were contracted with my wedding venue. I picked up a cake tasting box which had about 8 different cakes inside to try. Although I am not a fan of carrot cake, I actually thought that one tasted the best and was the most moist of all the flavors. The rest of the flavors in the cake box didn't taste fresh in my opinion, but I figured since the box was frozen and then thawed, it will be fresh on our wedding day. We ended up going with red velvet with cream cheese frosting and vanilla cake with berries and lemon buttercream. On wedding day, the cake looked really nice. I wasn't there for delivery, but it seemed to have gone smoothly. When it was finally cake cutting time, I found the cake a bit hard to cut into; not sure if this is usually the case as it's the first time I've ever cut into a wedding cake. I only had 1-2 bites of each flavor of cake on our wedding day, and to be honest, they didn't taste as moist as I would have liked. They also tasted overly cold, like the cake was refrigerated ahead of time or something. Not terrible, just not my favorite. The next day when we picked up our top layer from the hotel, we realized that the cake had been left outside all night (not the fault of this company). So we didn't have the option of saving the top layer. When we got home, we decided to have a few bites since we would not be saving it. However, they were really nice and honestly, we figured no one really eats wedding cake anyway. At least I don't, but our cake turned out phenomenally! We chose the coconut with passionfruit icing and it stayed SO moist. So many people came up to me at the wedding and told me how much they liked it. If I could give a negative to this place I would!! The only reason they're famous is because they won cake wars so I decided to go with them because of that but they ruined my wedding cake. So I originally had my cake testing and the cake design I wanted and they said no problem. This was about three months before our wedding. About a month in I decided to change the design of my wedding cake. This new design was more expensive since it had more chocolate flowers. I paid 585 for a three tiered for my dream cake. My contact was Patricia as she always said no problem they can do it. So everything was set about two months before the wedding. Fast forward to the day of the wedding they brought me the WRONG CAKE !!!! They brought the original design I wanted not the new one I changed two months before the wedding !! They delivered the WRONG cake to the reception about an hour before the reception started. Thankfully I was taking pictures at the reception that I caught the wrong cake, but I mean how unprofessional! I called and told them they did this mistake and they would deliver the RIGHT cake as soon as possible. When I saw the cake the second they brought it looked NOTHING like I wanted !!!! I was so depressed that I paid so much money to not receive what I wanted. It looked sloppy and like it was put together in a rush. I didn't order a cake topper because I wanted to entire top to be covered in chocolate roses and they delivered the top of the cake completely empty of roses. I was devastated ! My cake was so expensive because of the chocolate flowers I wanted in and I didn't receive what I payed for ! So a couple days later Patricia emailed to see how everything went so I responded with the truth. I was very displeased and disappointed with the situation that happened and the cake and now she's ignoring my response. So unprofessional! Honestly, there are many cake places in San Diego that have not won cake wars that would do such a better job. I wish I woulda gone somewhere else.
