Well after reading the other reviews regarding the eyewear branch of this business, my experience tracks. I'm here to vent about a negative experience I had after purchasing one of their products from a pop up shop in Scottsdale, AZ in the Painted Tree which for those who don't know, is a building containing multiple small business owners' goods like an upscale flea market. Long story not really short: I bought a cute gift for someone who loves our state and noticed when I got home that the "c" in "The Grand Canyon State" was erroneously lowercase. On a cleaning spree, I tossed the receipt though I had just bought the item that day. Didn't think I'd need it. So I tried to return it at Painted Tree cause it was effing with my senses and the girl at the register stated no refunds without receipt. Figured that might be the case but took a chance anyway. Later, I'm thinking well maybe the person who created the piece realized the error and corrected it in subsequent iterations and would either exchange it or create a new one right quick. Now you might be thinking, "How much could that thing have cost? $10? Why bother?" Well it only cost $20, to be exact, but that's not the point. The item was flawed, it was a gift, and a person like me cannot unsee or not care about things like this. It's a curse, for sure. So I emailed the biz asking if they'd consider replacing the item and the initial response (because I omitted details) was "what's wrong with it? lol" So as a Gen Xer, I immediately feel like I'm dealing with a) someone young and b) someone who doesn't understand when "lol" should and shouldn't be used. But Ok, no big. I respond, "the "c" in The Grand Canyon State is lowercase and should be uppercase." This person's response was simply , "really? Lol." So at this point I know I'm dealing with an individual who is young, unprofessional and who doesn't give any f**ks about their customers, as the previous reviews prove, as well. To be clear, I knew it was a long shot to get a corrected version. And I'm not giving this flawed gift to my friend, regardless of how nice the design. Anyone could have a bad day but judging by previous reviews, there is a clear track record and disregard for those who would help make this person's business successful if they just changed that attitude. But nope! This business owner was rude, condescending and clearly couldn't care less about their customer or worse: the quality of their work. And while this review may split Yelpers' opinions, I stand by mine. I'm going to let it go after I press send. But bottom line is someone who would respond this way to a customer trying to support their business should be relegated to bad entrepreneur jail until they've learned how to treat people. read more

I purchased a pair of these glasses. I loved them. Got compliments and I was disappointed when they broke. I called the Calacas and they told me they can send me a replacement this was April 2022. I was told "Those are ocean I don't have those in stock" "Give me couple days and we send them on the mail " They then asked me if I had VENMO and the cost would be $30. I was. It excited about that, but I do love the glasses. So I agreed to pay. I sent the money the next day. Within 5 minutes of receiving the VENMO information. 2 weeks later nothing. No Glasses. No Follow Up. NOTHING! I sent a text and the response was "We send them out" "Are you in San Diego" I asked if they had a tracker NO RESPONSE A week later. I reach out again. Their response is: "who is this?" I explain. They say "What's your address I think we did send them" I gave them my address They said "I'll check" NOTHING! NOTHING! 5 days later I check in They ask "How did you make the payment?" I send a screen shot Response "what frame are you looking for?" I call on the phone and re-explain everything. 1 Month Later Nothing It's now been over three months since my first call, since I paid for a replacement, countless calls, text messages and promises from Calacas and still NOTHING!!! In June I sent one last plea.... Please send me my glasses. I do not want to have to write a poor review. NO RESPONSE Please stay away from this company. I bought this glasses because I was told they were really good, they have really cool designs i will admit. But my first pair last me only 1 week. They broke, the lady from Oceanside offer me to replace them. Good I was relieved. Because they are not those cheap glasses you buy 2x$20. And for my surprise I get another second pair( I was happy with my first pair, so I bought another ones) And for my surprise they broke again in less than a month, and went back to the lady. Dealing with this seller was a complete nightmare. After purchasing a pair of shades online through their website I wanted to make a simple change and immediately emailed the company within 20 minutes of placing the order. Someone responded from their I-Phone instantly! (Fernando, I assume) Good Start, I thought. I was DEAD WRONG. I responded to his short, poorly typed email immediately of "How can we help! When do you place your order" YES, the english and communication is generally quite bad, so expect rambling, non-legible gibberish IF and WHEN the seller chooses to reply! Oh and don't try to call. NO ONE EVER picked up or returned any of my phone calls. Anywho, to make a long story short, when I mentioned that I simply wanted to change the style of shades he stopped communicating for 2 whole days! When he finally replied he claimed he already sent them off!! (Unbelievable!!) I told him I didn't want that style anymore. He replied days later that I can just send them back for an exchange. Of course I asked for a return label as I paid for shipping the first time around and it wasn't my fault he's incompetent and didn't check his emails! (as he claimed) Radio silence ONCE AGAIN for 2 more days!! Then he replied with more non-legible gibberish and says that "You are Really Rude and I don't want your business!!" From that moment on I knew I was dealing with an EXTREMELY unprofessional human being. Begrudgingly I agreed to pay the return shipping also as he was not responding to my emails at all at this point. Off to the post office I went and sent off the package to hopefully end this fiasco and get my refund! Low and behold.... two days later my Package was "Returned to Sender" and the post office alerted me that the PO Box on the Receipt AND on the package he originally sent to me is NOT a valid P.O. Box!!! (What The F**!) So I couldn't even return the shades!!! (GRrr!) Next I had to open a case with my Credit Card company to try to get my refund (still waiting) Not to mention the 11 or 12 bucks I wasted on shipping... all together a VERY regrettable transaction. Tried to post a negative review on their website that they of course didn't approve. Just an all around, grimy dishonest seller. But never fear... I searched the web and found an AWESOME local company called "City Locs" that sell a variety of bomb ass wooden shades along with many other cool ethnic gear! And of course....the customer service is literately DAY and NIGHT to this joke. They have a phone number ( that someone actually picks up!) And a very nice staff. I ordered my Man the shades in the photo called the "Que Quetza" Frames. They look GREAT and returns are easy if they didn't look great! Dealing with this seller was a complete and total drag! Unusually painful like pulling teeth with NO anesthesia. Shocking bad unprofessionalism like I was dealing with a 14 year old. When it comes to purchasing Wooden shades... YOU CAN DO BETTER. You can buy them almost anywhere online...CityLocs, Etsy, Just Look! Hell... get some used popsicle sticks and whittle some shades for yourself if you really need a pair that bad! I purchased a pair of their sunglasses at the Vista strawberry festival and the guy that sold them to me said "If they get scratched or anything at all just bring them in and I'll fix them". Well a few weeks later I was taking them off, and the frame around the lens broke. I have owned many many pairs of sunglasses in my life, and none of them have ever broken when taking them off. I reached out to the company via email describing the issue and received this email back "we don't offer any warranty On them" When I challenged them and stated that I was with a large group of friends that heard him state that they would fix anything that went wrong, he replied only with this: "we offer warranty on the lens not the frame" These are a very cheaply made product which is disappointing. Even more disappointing is that I was lied to in order to make a sale. Stay away. Go buy cheap pair of sunglasses at Walmart as they will be a much higher quality. read more

I got a pair of these glasses at the old town market. I have to agree with another review that some of the lenses have something weird going on. The first pair I had made it seem like they per prescription or something, like there was a line of magnification in the middle of the lens. However, when I took them back, they replaced them with a perfect pair immediately. It seems like there may be some QC problem, but they were more than willing to help me and fix the problem immediately... They seller stated if we had any problems at all with them to contact them. Well, his broke and I'm having an issue with the lens. So, how to contact them. I have no idea. Cool glasses but customer service, professionalism and communication severely lacking. I purchased a pair of Calacas glasses at the swap meet over a year ago, I love them-wear them every day and they hold up. I knew they could do custom work and I was organizing a reunion and wanted to get some custom glasses made with our logo- I showed my friends the pics my glasses and we were all very interested in buying. I emailed the owner Fernando over two weeks prior to the event with the artwork and specifics (Frame style, lense style, color, etc.)for my order and asked if he could make the glasses. He replied that he could do it. Via email, he quoted a price and we discussed possible issues with the logo, I asked for a mock-up (I was thinking digital rendering)and he agreed. Two days later I emailed Fernando to see how the mock-up was coming. The next day he replied and said he would send me a picture of the item in a couple of hours...nothing came. Two days later I emailed him again, "Just checking in again, How's it going?" to see if he could send me the picture he spoke of. The next day he replied," I did make those all ready but I'm out of town for couple days" . After 11 days of back and forth I finally received the picture. WRONG color, WRONG frame, logo was not completely shown. I was frustrated and emailed Fernando about the discrepancies, I cut and pasted the text from my original email outlining the color/style etc. to remind him what I needed AND I made a basic digital mockup on powerpoint by cutting and pasting pictures to show him what I was looking for. Last I asked him to give me a call. (Up to this point each email I had written had been detailed and professional. Fernando's replies were almost exclusively from his phone and consisted of, at most, two sentences. ) After receiving my email, Fernando replied immediately via email (The day before the reunion.) "I can definitely do this". Via email that day, we discussed treaks that would improve the look of the design. I asked if he could send me a cleaned up digital rendering (instead of my rough, homemade powerpoint slide)for me to help solicit more orders from reunion attendees. -No reply. I emailed Fernando a couple of times the day of the reunion(holding out hope)and asked him to call me to pin down details. -NO call Finally, he replied-AGAIN via email instead of calling and stated that he had already sent me a "sample" and that he would be unable to make the glasses until Monday. GRRR! I reminded Fernando that the sample pic he sent had , in no way represented what I asked for. I also told him that if we had talked vice emailing we could have gotten things done much faster. I also told him that I had a pretty good sized group of people from across the US, excited and wanting to buy the glasses and that it was a real shame that after over two weeks we were still at square one. His reply: "Ok I'm sorry then ! It's all good have a great weekend". But it was not "all good", Fernando. Especially when the day before, you told me, "I can definitely do this". read more

Earlier this month (October 2019) I flew out to San Diego to drive my friend's car up to Seattle for them. Along the way I asked if I could borrow their sunglasses as I'd left mine at home back in FL. They obliged, I fell in love with the sunglasses and asked where they got them from. They told me they'd picked them up from the Old Town Market, but they have an online store. Always wanting to support local independent vendors I went online and ordered a pair on Oct. 4th. Two days later on Oct. 6th I received an email informing me that my order had shipped, however no tracking information was provided. Considering it was being shipped from San Diego to Florida I figured it'd take a little bit. However, by October 17th I'd still yet to receive the sunglasses I ordered. So I sent an e-mail to their email listed on their "contact us" section of their website. Around 12am (9pm PST) on October 18th I received an email saying they'd look into it when they got to the office on Friday and get back to me. So I let it go over the weekend. The afternoon of Monday the 21st I still hadn't heard back. I sent an email around 5pm (2pm PST) asking for an update and expressing my disappointment and how I'd prefer a refund at this point. All I got back was a "wow , we sent them out today. Sorry." Listen. I have NEVER spent more than $20 on a pair of sunglasses. These were $47 with shipping. That is a lot of money for some people. yet I was made to feel like I'm being unreasonable. I work in the customer service industry. I was being more than forgiving. The disappointment stems from the fact that they are a wonderful design and look great.... I wanted to support a local independent artist and yet they were not able to provide the sunglasses in a timely manner, yet even provide a reasonable excuse as to their shortcomings. Furthermore the customer service was atrocious! Look I get it, you probably make the bulk of your revenue via swap meet/farmers markets.... Which is great... Then don't offer an online retail store if you can't keep up and or manage it appropriately. This is so disappointing as I was planning on ordering additional pairs in the future. Who knows if the pair I originally ordered will even come as I wasn't even provided a tracking number this second go around. My advise, Look elsewhere. There's definitely other artists out there that can offer a similar product and I'm sure way better customer service than Calacas. read more

Picked up a pair of these shades at the Ocean Beach farmers market. I have a nice expensive pair of Ray Bans that I have been using for 3 years now that need some love. These shades have an awesome style and will serve as a good cheaper replacement. To think that I am supporting a local artist and repping the OB neighborhood is well worth my money. Man, I loved the look of the glasses, but they fell between my seat and my console in my car and broke when I was fishing them out. Honestly, I didn't yank them out and they broke pretty easily but whatever it was my fault. I email them through their website to see what I can do to get them repaired, and this is the response I get: "Good morning just wondering, The temple, broke or you broke them ? Is not way the temple is gonna broke just because ! You can send them back and we can see how much the cost will be to replace them ! Thanks" I never said they spontaneously combusted, I asked what I can do to repair them. I didn't ask for a free pair of glasses, again just a repair. What's even more frustrating is I didn't get any info on where to send them and couldn't respond to the email they sent because they have some email forwarding service set up. Amazing company and response. My first pair of glasses had lens damage after I used a special cleaner for glasses. They replaced the lenses without question and even sent me an extra pair of lenses for the future. Then the arm on the glasses broke and they sent me a brand new pair! Couldn't be happier!!
