Grabbed a 7" Fire Pie to go for lunch today. We were greeted as soon as we came in. Food was fresh and done in a few minutes. Flavor was amazing and spice was perfect. Great size for a quick lunch on the run. Will be back again to get a couple of larger pizzas for dinner. read more

This place is great as always! My husband and I always forget about this place since it's further away and not at the old Underground location. They have a wonderful craft beer selection with some wines. The atmosphere is casual and the food is fresh to order. While out and about running errands with the wife, hunger called, so we had answer. She was starving, and I was nursing a hangover, so we collectively decided on Above Ground pizza. We had been wanting to try it for a while so now was the perfect time. We both really enjoyed Underground pizza in downtown before it closed, and hated to see it go. We parked, got out, and strolled inside. Inside was a cozy medium sized dining room with high top and low top tables. It seemed kind of cramped, but outside seating was also available. This is your walk up to the counter and order kind of place, and they bring it to you. The wife and I perused the menu (see photo) and decided on the cheesy herbed knot ring, and a pepperoni pizza with half jalapeños. Asked what we wanted to drink, the wife wanted water and I asked for the available choices. I was offered sodas in a can, or water or iced tea on tap. I opted for an ice tea, although I really wanted a soda. I was not going to pay $3.00 for a canned soda. Overall, I paid $37.47 which I thought was a bit pricey, however, I understand inflation is a real thing, and did not complain. Seems like pizza joints are not immune to rising prices of our economy. We were handed paper plates and silverware, and we looked for a table. We walked and filled our drinks up, and walked toward the table. I took a sip of my tea, and was immediately disgusted. It tasted like it had been sitting a couple of days and was stale. I promptly proceeded to the bathroom and dumped the tea out in the sink, and then I went back to the front counter and asked for more ice (remember, no fountain machine). The nice lady behind the counter asked if I had a spill, to which I replied politely that the tea was disgusting. She offered me a soda and said she would brew fresh tea. We sat down and enjoyed some tunes (bonus points for "Amor Prohibido" - RIP Salena), and enjoyed each other's company. Shortly thereafter, our cheesy herbed knot ring arrived nice and hot (see photo). We jumped right in and started to it off. The bread was nice and crispy and crunchy. Nice herbed taste, but the cheese was almost non existent. It did not take away from the goodness of it, however, the description on the menu was a tad deceiving. That being said, we would order it again. It was delicious, just not cheesy. In good time, our pizza arrived piping hot. It looked delicious, but greasy. We started to scarf it down. The pizza was good. Nothing spectacular, but was good. Nice and crispy, cheesy and saucy. The wife always calls me a wimp (actually, I paraphrase what she really calls me) because I'm not a huge fan of jalapeños. I will usually try one or two, but I am not glutton for punishment with spicy foods. She can usually eat jalapeños like they are skittles and enjoys the burn very much. She took a big bite with jalapeños in it, and she instantly regretted it. This says a lot, because she can withstand super spicy foods, but she had met her match! I took a small bite of a jalapeño, and instantly reached for my drink, which did nothing to soften the spicy blow. This impressed me very much, and I took great pleasure calling the wife a wuss! That being said, if you like spicy foods, try their jalapeños. They are very good, but pack a strong spicy punch to the tastebuds. We finished our pizza, and I gave the sweet tea another try. As promised, a new batch had been brewed and was much better. No harm, no foul. They just needed to be made aware that the stale tea was nasty. We strolled out and we heard the staff behind the counter thank us for our patronage. Both of us were satisfied with our choice. Overall, I was pleased. It was nothing spectacular, but it is worth eating again. I would recommend it for anyone looking for decent pizza. Give it a try and tell me what you think. I would hope in the future that they will consider fountain drinks. That was my only real complaint. Enjoy. read more

No frills. But damn good pizza. I came by on a Friday evening around 7:30. FYI, they close at 8:00, so it's not ideal for a late dinner. I didn't know what to get, so the polite and awesome lady at the counter steered me toward the BBQ chicken pizza. I also got a frozen sangria drink. Most tables were full, so I sat at the bar. And in a few minutes, the goodness was in front of me. The crust was fluffy, but not too thick. When crust is too thick, I get full on it. The person who served me my pizza also gave me a cup of ranch, and I was set. New Braunfels is getting more and more decent food places as it grows as a city. Add this one to your list. read more

Okay I'll never do a food review but this one was hands down the worst places for a pizza ever and I'm not over exaggerating. They only got 2 sizes a 12 and 14. Got the 14 with pepperoni and onion banana peppers came out to 30 bucks! 30 freakin bucks!!! it didn't even taste like 30 dollar pizza. Very disappointed. When I got home I literally measured it because the size didn't look right. IT was way too small for the price. Came out to 13 inch's. Definitely Should be called UNDERGROUND PIZZA. Small little place, looks like a renovated bar, but we found a table easily. Menue was not as we expected, there were some toppings we would have prefered not to have and they were missing a traditional meat lovers type of pizza. They have had to adjust since Covid and went into some meal prepping out of the restaurant which was in itself quite impressive. Fresh ingredients. Great service. Tasty creations. You can't go wrong with anything you order: pizza, salads, pasta and sometimes RAMEN! Jim always has something up his sleeve. Don't sleep on this place. But, when you wait a ridiculous amount of time, then the food trickles out, until the first to get theirs is finished before the last person gets their food, it's too much. No one should sit for almost two hours over a pizza and calzones. Then the food comes out and the calzone is burnt beyond what a kid will eat. There's a point where, "sorry," isn't enough. Every person in that place waited so long one guy put his head down to rest and we could see they were serving another table one person at a time. Firstly the decor in the new place is tanning and definitely makes you feel homely not typical restaurant feel with low lights real table cloths and nice table setups. They make everything fresh here so the food is worth the wait. We watched them cook in the beautiful stone oven. The food was so good here we didn't have a single but left. My husband, daughter and I went here last week for my daughter's 18th birthday while visiting in New Braunfels, TX. The owner and staff were awesome and you could tell they love their gigs. The pizza was fantastic! I had a small with spinach and jalapeños and my daughter and hubby shared a large with spinach, artichoke and black olives - my daughter's feedback is "it was so good ". We were craving pizza today and Aboveground Pizza is the new pizza place off of 306 so we had to check it out. First of all, the atmosphere was great and it was very clean. We were promptly served and we grabbed a high top table. From our seats we could see the pizza oven which was really cool. We ordered the cheese sticks and a 14" pizza. Even the beer was good and made the pizza even better. While eating we could see the owner working with the team behind the counter. All of it was so good and the service was great. All fresh ingredients, the crust is just right, the flavors are very well designed for each kind. Every time I called way in advance, they always beat their estimated time and staff was always very friendly and helpful.
