I am writing so no one else goes through what we went through with Calavan's Pool & Spa. They were hired at many other properties where many problems occurred causing them to be terminated. I myself tried to work with this company so not to change to a different vendor. When I met with Larry owner of Calavan's he had no interest and pretty much laughed in my face. I decided to try and see if he would make things right however, everything got so much worse. Our pools at multiple properties went from the green algae to black algae. We recently had Calavan's as our pool service. Their service is terrible. The technicians and owner are RUDE people. Our pools had algae for half the season. One had black algae. We tried to let them rectify the problem but they didn't seem to care. We had to let them go and hire a new company. Their value is not worth the poor service they give. Rick from Hayward Warranty division hired Larry of Calavan's Pool and Spa, to perform a warranty repair at my residence what a disappointment/ nightmare. The reviews are right STAY AWAY from this company. The owner Larry is extremely unprofessional, rude and vulgar on the phone. Larry was caught talking negative about me the customer to his employees on speaker phone, when caught instead of apologizing he became even more confrontational. The work performed on the site was just as bad, the installer was observed hammering a concrete screw with channel locks, attempting to perforate the panel in order to attach an outlet. this was done because the installer broke several drill bits, by going through the wrong side of the panel. The wiring prior to the job was done professionally and neat, however the rat nest of wires left after Calavan's Pool and Spa speaks volumes to their lack of work ethics and commitment. Most installers would be embarrassed of this work product, but not Calavan's Pool and Spa. Larry tries to tell everyone that these reviews are fake. Worst company we have ever had. Told him I was having trouble with the cloudy water in our jacuzzi and they told me that the chlorinator needed to be replaced. So I had them replaced the chlorinator. It made no difference. Had another company come out and check and they said the grids in our jacuzzi filter were shot. Told him I was having trouble with the pool heater and I needed an estimate to replace as well as an estimate to fix. All they sent me was an estimate to replace for almost $9,000. Had another company come out and it was just a flame sensor and they fixed the whole thing for $298. Check hardly ever vacuumed. Went home on Fridays not leaving us any chlorine tabs so by Saturday morning or afternoon we had no chlorine in our spa. Even though we were paying for chemicals I would have to run out and buy some. A lot of this I complained about numerous times to caravans but it was not corrected. The technicians are simply lazy. There is no other explanation for such poor service and missed diagnosis when it comes to problems. Don't waste your money. These people will end up being a money pit and nothing will get done. read more

So to start off I was having issues with my previous pool providers, and I have two houses that need servicing in the valley, another pool servicer referred me to Calavan's. In the beginning it seemed they were very adamant and caring about the service which was going to be provided, the owner Larry had personal contact with us. It has been 2 months since i've started service with them and I've got to say i'm quite disappointed. I entertained their 1500$ + worth of fees to "repair" my pools. Mind you one of the houses for sale so I took care of whatever was necessary. For some reason the acid has the pool locked up on the house that is for sale and it needed to be drained. Calavan's for whatever reason, first told me they needed to get "approval from the city" since we are on septic. Then a week later no word I call them and ask them what is going on, i'm literally showing the house WEEKLY the pool can not be in such a horrible condition. They refer me to another person who sends me a bid for 2000$ .... wow, so of course I decline they say "we will figure it out" and never respond. They never answer the phone, they are poor on emailing me back. I had to call another pool company to come and remedy the issue and am switching servicers immediately. read more

Do not trust Larry or any of his idiotic employees. They came to fix a light...its still malfunctioning. On top of that, I've been waiting over a month for him to clean a greasy handprint his filthy technician left in my spa. He is clueless as to how a professional business should be run. Hence, his employees are "on another planet". Again, STAY AWAY from Larry & the Calavan Clan! They don't deserve to have anyone's business. Everything was fine at first. Then I had camera's installed... saw on video that the pool service technician showed up, didn't do ANYTHING, and left after looking. Spent 34 seconds in my backyard. Called the company, no sorry, no credit, no nothing. I told them to stop service. They also flooded my backyard and refused to accept responsibility. Cost me $130 to have someone else come and fix issue. Seemed like nice people but when you tech on video didn't touch the pool but they want to charge you for it is where I draw the line. read more

I've tried to use this place twice! Both times I got a call in then crickets. I couldn't get them to schedule a time to come out. They asked for pictures of the problem. I sent in 2 mins and then nothing. I sat around for a week trying to get them to help meanwhile my pool pumps weren't able to run because I had a bad leak. Excellent Service (from Katie in the office to the field team which includes the owner, Larry), the entire Team is knowledgeable and friendly in their respective roles, Very Responsive (especially if you have a major-priority issue); High Quality / Reliable Work (never a follow-up on the same repair), and Fair, Honest & Upfront prices (the lowest service call and hourly pricing I've seen in Vegas area and without the huge mark-up on the parts that the others charge). I had used several different providers my first three years in Vegas but have been a loyal customer for the last 7-8 years (fun fact ... this is family owned and run business that has been around long before the Vegas' boom). If you have a home repair warranty company, I discovered that mine had already vetted / approved Calavan's and would allow me to request them whenever a covered item needed repair or replacement. We hired Calavan's to acid wash the pool due to some mottling. After the wash was finished I noticed that the stains were still present. We called Larry Calavan to come and look at his work. Almost 2 weeks have passed and no show. We discontinued [pool service with them. read more

Low quality, disappointing pool service. The technician Israel is one of the laziest people I have ever met. He missed services regularly and claimed he could not get in the backyard because he had to walk on dirt to get to the pool? When I said I would have to get a new service he called his company and said he didn't feel safe? I didn't criticize, complain or raise my voice, my landscaper was present during my last interaction with the technician and he thought the technician was making excuses to get out of work. I would never recommend this company and even further would warn anyone I know to avoid them and warn others before time and money is wasted. I'm a new pool owner and I've had Joe come out to my house twice so far to assist me in getting the pool up and running. The first time he assessed the pool while I was buying the house after receiving an inspection. He rinsed off the filter cartridges and gave me a list of items to buy and recommended where to purchase them for the best price. Today he came out to install a few minor items such as a door for my skimmer and water guard for my timer. I asked plenty of questions which had come up since moving in and he answered them with great patience even after I repeated them so I could write them down. He provided me with a lot of tips and was very easy going saying I could call him anytime I had a quick question. Even though I'm sure he could sense my inexperience, he still was fair in his pricing and told me what things would be needed (service wise) and what won't. When the time comes for a new pump, I will definitely be calling Joe out to install it! Also I should mention that the young lady on the phone who assisted me with setting up the appointment was extremely friendly and their system had very good notes as far as what I would need!! The disappointing thing with Calavan's Pool & Spa was that the owner never carried through with my wishes. 1. I asked for a particular day of the week for service so that I could watch for the tech. This never happened. I also asked that the tech ring my door bell when he arrived--never once did this occur. 2. I don't believe in paying upfront when the service has not been done. I was getting bills like at the first of a month for that particular month. 3. He'd say I needed a motor, which I payed for at the beginning of his service to me. 4. Horrible company, do yourself a favor and stay away. They were supposed to drain, clean and fill my pool. Larry was the person who came to my house to estimate the work. The work started later than schedule and got delayed. By the time the pool was empty and had to be refilled I had to leave town for the weekend. Larry notified me that they do not fill pools and I should fill it myself. He also informed me that since it's a fiberglass pool it can pop out of the ground if it stays empty. He never informed me of that before we started and never informed me that they do not fill pools. All this time he led me to believe that Calavan's Pool and Spa will handle this A to Z. I found myself instead of going out of town having to stay home and filling my pool. Since then the I called Larry left texts and voicemails. He never got back to me. now I'm stuck with a full pool that is still needs to be washed and drained. He lied to me about them acid washing the pool. And he never told me I was to be the one filing the pool. Horrible and irresponsible person. read more

We have used Calavan pools to get out Hayward pool light replaced and Hayward Pump replaced which were both under warranty. They got both jobs done fairly quickly. They had to reschedule a few times but communicated with me the issues they were having. Everything got done quickly and hassle free. read more

I was a weekly service customer for YEARS with Calavan's and have hesitated authoring a negative review. I have large in ground custom pool in the NW. I was referred to Calavans by a pool retailer when my previous company no longer serviced the NW. As most people do, I found Larry and Kate to be professional and sincere. The problem with Calavans is the TERRIBLE people they hire to do the weekly service. I was never satisfied with the employees assigned to my account and felt like I had to manage them constantly. What is most interesting is that Larry and Calavans have no system in place to audit the work of their field employees. Sadly, they don't ever ask you what you think as a customer. I experienced no shows for weekly service. I experienced unacceptable cleaning and chemical balancing of my pool. I experienced lousy attitudes and zero customer service and genuinely unfriendly demeanor from the field reps. I finally installed cameras to record when they showed for the weekly service and the expected quality of work they performed. It was eye opening and finally resulted in me firing Calavans. Since that firing I have discovered that the missed weekly service calls and pool neglect has had a damaging effect on my pool equipment. Even though the equipment was still under warranty, the manufacturer refuses to repair or replace the equipment due that neglect by Calavan employees. Therefore it will now cost me thousand$$ to replace the equipment myself. I had even requested from Calavams the warranties and operating manuals of my pool equipment that was installed only to be told that the Calavan main office cannot locate them due to "computer challenges". I was extremely patient and even gave the owner Larry an opportunity to make things right. He refused to take any responsibility so I am now compelled to let others know what to look out for. Again, Calavans problems are related to the people they hire and the lack of customer orientation. I got a hold of Calavan's, because of their high ratings, and, let me tell you - they're completely deserved. Joe came out and did a FANTASTIC job on getting my pool back in perfect, working order, and found ways of making it run better and less expensively than before. We required full pool service on a weekly basis so my Mom was recommended Calavan's pool service, she was thrilled with the later who answers all the phone calls- she's very kind and reassuring and will tell you yes I will send someone out, yes we will have Jose text you, etc. They neve4 followed thru with any of the concerns that came up. Firstly the pool guy showed up every week and disconnected my leaf catcher with his reasoning being that it fill up too quickly and puts a strain on the pump. Second, he programmed my variable speed pump to run at 3000 rpms for 14 hrs a day and when contacted nv energy they informed the pump cost went up to 18 more per month than previous months. The third very awkward problem with this company was we always had to call every week because they weren't coming as scheduled but were very quick to take the money on the first o& the month, yet they don't call you and they don't show up. When I called to speak to the lady about please having a more skilled pump man come over to reprogram it back to energy efficiently we were promised that they would be over on that same day and he will text when he's on his way. They never came and never called. Finally after looking at the pool when the pool man left, as we were out when they arrived to clean it, the pool had yellow algae growing up the walls, as if they were feeding the algae and showed brushed marks where they attempted to clean it but left it horrible. Needless to say after four months of Calavan's killing the quality of my water and using wrong chemicals as well as abusing my new pentair variable speed p7mp an$ raising my power bill they are out! I would highly recommend that unless you are running an apt complex this company appears very good at the start but very quickly fails unprofessionally. We had an appointment with them to come out and give us an estimate on a railing for our pool. We were told it would be on Friday afternoon. They still weren't here by 4:30p, so I called to ask where they were and the girl said she would give me a all right back. It took her over an hour to return my call and when she did call she said that they couldn't come out today and they wanted to reschedule for Monday. We have a lot of painting to do and other things to get done on our home. We didn't go out and get anything else done today waiting on Calaban's to come out and give us the estimate on the railing. They totally wasted our day, if they couldn't make it we should have gotten a phone call a lot earlier in the day and we shouldn't have been the ones to call them ask them where they were. Just bought a house with a pool. All of the equipment was stolen so I needed it installed quickly to finalize the closing of the house. Out of everyone I called, they were the only ones who could quote and install within my short time frame. It has been several months and everything is working fantastic. I had called Calavan's regarding a problem with the pool Vacuum...it was not drawing as strong as I thought it should. I had used Calavan's before & they had sent out Joe Bown who replaced the pool motor & explained how it functioned & how to adjust the levers for a variety of functions. I had called them a 2nd time, regarding a different issue...the pool vacuum, as I mentioned above. Again Joe came out & after I explained the problem, he asked me a few questions & then we went over to the pump area & he showed me the valve that adjusts the vacuum draw. Joe explained to me which way to adjust the valve, at what level he would recommend me leaving it at & how to adjust it higher or lower. He even marked the valve with a marker so I would know exactly in which direction to turn it, when I wanted to change the draw.Joe is extremely knowledgeable about his job & is very personable to speak with. I wish all service people were as "customer service" oriented as he is. I will use Calavan's again, if & when the need arises & I will definitely ask for Joe again. Since they get busy, give yourself a few days leeway so they can set up an appointment at your convenience. This is an A+++ company. read more
