Once again we visited Ajo Al's and the food was out of this world! The service was great also. I only have one small complaint, that is about the styrofoam to-go containers. The closure tabs are very fragile and break off easily, therefore the container stays open which is difficult transporting them home. Please find another vendor with a better product. We were turned onto Ajo Al's on TikTok after hearing they had some of the best margaritas around, and they definitely lived up to the hype! We tried the El Flaco Margarita and the house margarita on the rocks (no salt), and both were refreshing, well-balanced, and so good! We started with the happy hour queso, which was creamy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious. Then we shared the Chile Relleno plate, served with seasoned beef smothered in green chile sauce that was chef's kiss. It was packed with flavor and easily one of our favorite dishes of the meal. We also ordered four happy hour street tacos: carnitas, pork belly, brisket, and birria. Every taco was flavorful, but the pork belly and birria stood out as our favorites. Between the delicious food, fantastic margaritas, and great happy hour prices, Ajo Al's is definitely worth a visit. First time trying this location. Wife and I for late lunch Monday. Nice building, seated immediately. very pleasant staff. Placed orders and received chips & salsa. Chips warm, thin. Salsa watery, tomatoey, & tasted like standard bottled stuff. Wife had the chicken flautas with beans & rice. Enjoyed her meal. This is her kind of place, very comfortably midwest Gringo. My order was a shredded beef chimichanga, beans & rice and a side order of calabacitas. Chimichanga was not at all crisp. I don't understand why it's so hard to leave the burrito cooking for that extra minute! The beef in the chimi was delicious, tender, tasty, and perfectly fat & gristle free! Cheers to the chef on that. Our waitress , nice personality, was totally incompetent. I ordered my chimi with red & green sauce & was charged $5 for that, even though it did not appear. We managed to order churros for dessert, and they were outstanding . Waitress never checked on us, no drink refills, and waited 15 minutes for our bill. The food here is satisfactory, made to mid west American taste. Restaurant is nice, just needs some staff training. Will give it a little time and we'll return. read more

This was our first time dining at Ajo Al's and it was a great experience. Our server, Jasmine was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and vegetarian options. She made some appetizer suggestions and the queso did not disappoint!! Creamy and rich with spinach and tomatoes. The street corn dip was good but with corn in season would have been better with fresh corn. We shared a taco plate and it was very good, the potato taco was deep fried and loaded with cheese and potato. You get 2 sides and we got the whole beans and calibicitas. The beans were great, the calibicitas were fresh but a bit overcooked. Jasmine mentioned several dishes that could be made vegetarian like fajitas but were not on the menu. I would suggest to management that you simply put those on the menu! Drink selection, including wine if you're not a tequila person was great. Very fair prices. read more

We made a reservation because we didn't know what to expect. I called to make it and the gentleman was so nice, agreeable and helpful. Arrived at 6:00 on a Friday. The place was hopping, but we were immediately seated. A carafe of ice water and warm chips with salsa appeared and we were greeted quickly. We loved the salsa. It had just a little spice/perfect. We ordered the trio of dips... omg. Soooo good! The guac was garlicky /just how I like it. We got shrimp and steak fajitas. They have excessive veggies! The steak wasn't great. It was pretty chewy. The only negative of the meal. The rice.... Soooo good! The service could not have been better. Her name was Ava! She was so sweet and attentive. She kept refilling my iced tea and our chips! We were too full for desserts but they sounded great! All in all we loved our meal. We will be back. read more

We tried to like it! When first opened we really enjoyed the food service and ambiance. Now that it's been a minute, we had two separate occasions where we had to leave. One time we tried they ran out of high chairs (the four in total they had), the manager did make it right and gave us a gift card for one meal. The second time was today where we were sat promptly but no one came to us except for chips and salsa. We left after 10 mins because the restaurant was dead empty in our section with only 4 tables. I have been wanting to try Ajo Al's since it popped up in my search feed. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. My server Tessa was great. She was very friendly and attentive by checking on me and refilling my drink before it was empty. My Taco combo was ready in just a few minutes and came out hot with generous portions of rice, beans and the chicken in my tacos. Delicious food at a great price. read more

First time here and I was excited to find a restaurant that offers potato tacos! They were delicious! My three friends enjoy their Mexican pizza, and burrito bowl. They had a $2 spicy margarita (jalapeno infused tequila) special which lit my friend's mouth on fire (but my friend is a wimp when it comes to spice so don't let it deter you). Ajo Als offers a nice selection for both vegetarians and carnivores. Service was mediocre but the manager was quit pleasant and seemed willing to get his hands dirty to help out. It was a nice first time experience and I would recommend if in the area. read more

We went here for Mother's Day. Our server was great. Provided exceptional service and wished me a happy Mother's Day which I thought was very kind of her. I had lunch here today. I had a big breakfast and wasn't very hungry so ordered a beef tamale a la carte. It was smothered with cheese and red sauce and was delicious! Complimentary chips came with two salsas ( hot and mild). The chips were thin and crisp and both salsas were good. I had salt and tajin on the house margarita and enjoyed it. Jasmine was our waitress and she was very friendly and engaging...so much so that I'll request her when I return for lunch next month with a large group of friends! read more

This was my second visit to this new restaurant location. My first visit didn't go well. I did a yelp review giving 2 stars and the owner responded and gave me a gift card to come back and give them another try. So my wife and mother went with me today. Service was great . Callie K was our server. Very pleasant . Food was So MUCH BETTER! I ordered the burrito bowl , my wife ordered the Flautas, and my mom ordered just a side of rice and a side of beans. My wife and I also ordered a margarita . We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch. It seems my first visit was during their opening and they must have worked out the issues. We definitely will return. We have been patrons of Ajo Al's Biltmore location but was very excited when they opened this east valley location. The food and service was excellent! We walked in and the bar side to the left, restaurant to the right. Friendly greeting when we walked in. Our table was clean and chips and salsa was yummy. Highly recommend their guacamole! I'll just start with, I was really excited for this new Mexican restaurant to pop up. After waiting for the initial hype to die down, I decided to order the chicken fajitas family catering meal with rice, beans and tortillas. Plus a cheese crisp for the folks in the house that can consume dairy. I placed the ordered with instructions for no cheese on anything and the beans came with cheese topped. The two absolute areas that were not great was the lack of chicken in my fajitas. It was 95% peppers and onions. Understanding the economy is in a bad spot, and protein is more expensive, but it was only enough chicken for maybe 2, if that. The cheese crisp was flat and wasnt even crispy despite asking for extra crispy. My $73 "family meal" was basically peppers, onions, beans and rice - plus fancy catering boxes. Again, it kills me to share this review. Unfortunately I would not go back or recommend this place to others. read more

We have patiently been waiting for Ajo Al's on the east side to open and have been fans for years of their other locations. The food was delicious. I got the pollo con queso and it was enough for two meals. Chips and salsa were wonderful as well and were refilled without asking the second we were running low. Love it. I use to go to the one in Scottsdale many years ago. It's just as I remember. The steak fajita was delicious, flavorful and hot. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Bianca was our server and she was very attentive and took great care of us. One suggestion - it was very bright, the ceiling lights could have been dimmed about 3 clicks. It would have helped the ambiance quite a bit. Very fixable. We'll be back. read more

I had the quesabirria tacos and for sides beans and calabasitas... unfortunately I forgot to snap a photo of the sides, but the entire meal was delicious, flavorful and the portions were generous. The tacos tasted authentic and paired perfectly with the Paloma I ordered, which was served in a cute cantarito cup. We started with chips and salsa, and ended with fried ice cream topped with strawberries. The portion was enormous ... definitely a dessert meant for sharing! Green chile tamale is very sweet, more like a dessert then a dinner tamale. The beef tamale is flavorless. The rice and beans are delicious. I absolutely love this place! Everybody is so fast-paced working and genuinely so kind! We came In on national tequila day & it was very busy but they were so accommodating to us and handled the busyness amazingly. Abby was top-tier! So well mannered and handled the chaos with such grace! She is such a sweet girl along with Joe! He was the best server I 10 out of 10. Unfortunately, this visit paled compared to our last visit. We had a free appetizer coupon so we ordered a cheese crisp which took so long our food came out at the same time. The person that brought it out said here is your extra crispy cheese crisp. We didn't order extra crispy so he took it back so they could make a new one. The new one came out burnt on the bottom. This same person was supposed to bring out more water and the hot salsa but he forgot and never did. The server was nice and attentive but he forgot to give us our scratch card. He told us all the cheese crisps come out extra crispy now. Disappointed this time. read more

If you are kind of person who likes taco bell then u may enjoy this place. If you like real Mexican food you will be severely disappointed. Nothing had any flavor they barely had a menu. The cocktail menu bigger then food menu. The salsa tasted like tomato paste. The queso was definitely cheddar cheese but not much other flavors going on. Not the best queso. Ordered carna asada burrito, it was small not much to it. Not very much meat and just stuffed with cheese and pico. Ordered rice but no flavor just fell flat and calabcitas is way better at mexi que down the street, then this place. Sorry we love Mexican food thats bold with flavor. read more

We were placed onto bar area and she was the bartender. Salsa was pretty good. The first sign was the corn in a cast iron dish. The pan was cold. Corn was lukewarm. Taste was frozen corn. Expected more. Deep fried chimi was partially fried. I didn't care for the meat. Taste was plain. My taco was very plain. Enchilada with red sauce wasn't too bad but all of the food was cold and tasteless. We didn't eat much. Waitress asked if it was too much food. No take home's for us. Sorry.
