Came in for my fave thing about Caleb and broad---half priced apps and cocktails! I have been obsessed with the princess C for as long as I can remember and it paired perfectly with the chicken parm dip. With the apps deal the drink and cocktail coat under 25 which is unheard of in this economy! Austin took care of us and he was so wonderful---I can't say enough good things. He was personable, made us exactly what we wanted, was friendly and just a great bartender. While there dogs hung nearby on the patio enjoying bacon and fresh water bowls. How perfect! You can tell regulars are loved by the staff and that shows how special of a place this really is. My wife and I went to Caleb and Broad for the first time during their Halloween night offering. We didn't know what to expect but had heard positive things about the service, food and drinks. I should have written this over a month ago but life gets in the way sometimes The restaurant was well laidf out and we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady. Theree was a nice sized bar to the left of the entrance. The furnishings weree comfortable and created a nice ambiance. We were sat at a long table in the back with a few other people. All in all, there were 10-12 of us. None of us knew each other but we all had amazing conversation and a great time meeting each other. There were multiple courses and a drink pairing for each course. We ordered cocktails to start and they were great! I had a spicy/dirty gin martinin that had pepper and a drizzle of olive oil to it and it was fabulous. The courses began. We had a chef's amusement, followed by Asian dumplings with cucumber in a nice sauce, followed by a GREAT pumpkin soup with a bat shaped grilled cheese, followed by a nice piece of beef tenderloin in a sauce. The dessert was white chocolate with sauce (I think). Each course was prepared well and had great flavor. The portions were large considering the overall price of the meal with drinks. Each course had a great pairing which included cocktails. beer and cider or wine. I get that this is a first experience which isn't normal in terms of menu offerings. However, the preparation was excellent and I would expect the same with the normal menu. We will deffinitely go here again. read more

I spent the afternoon in Newport with Meg M the other day and we ended our day at Caleb & Broad. We sat at the bar and our server, Austin, was wonderful! He took great care of us and even showed us a picture of his dog (bonus points in my book.) I asked for his opinion on the least sweet margarita on the menu and he said he'd make me a house margarita, which was perfect! My friend got a delicious drink too, she likes the sweeter drinks, the menu has something for everyone. We did half price apps. My friend got the chicken parm dip which let me tell you... looked and smelled amazing. If I could eat cheese, I would have devoured it. I had the falafel bites and asked for the dip on the side. I'm picky with falafel and these were great. They were super flavorful and soft. My app, drink, and tip was $20!!! So inexpensive. Definitely coming back for happy hour. But the best part... while we were there a golden retriever, Maverick, tried to come in since the front gates were open for the patio. All the staff clearly knew him! It was so sweet! They brought him out bacon and a water bowl. He sat on the patio with his owner and then another regular customer came by with their dog and same thing! What a great discovery! Walking in and being greeted by the cool, eclectic, and sometimes weird (that is a term of endearment from me) decor set the visit off on the right foot. But it was the service and menu that made it memorable! I love an inventive menu, so I'd be happy to have tried a grilled cheese with blueberry thyme jam and pickle egg rolls even if they were just okay - except everything was delicious! When our server told me I didn't have to make the impossible choice of peanut butter OR Oreo Mudslide but that they could do both, well, that sealed it. My partner and I visited Newport this past weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. While there, we explored several bars and restaurants. Caleb & Broad was one of them; we went there on Sunday afternoon and sat at the bar. The server, Gabi, was very attentive, friendly, and funny. She even complimented my Seinfeld "Assman" shirt and we laughed about it. The food was delicious - we especially liked the homemade jerky, which they don't always have available. We were looking for a place to come back to later in the day with six other friends for drinks, dinner, and more drinks. We would have chosen Caleb & Broad but decided against it because of one customer who apparently is a regular... the place is nice; however, it gets one star due to this ratched, ghetto, girl who sat at the end of the bar and proceeded to yell, LOUDLY, to her three friends as she complained about some other girl (who is probably just as wretched and busted as she is) while pounding her fist repeatedly on the bar. She went on and on, cussing non-stop and embarrassing herself, puffing up about how she knows how to fight and this other girl was talking trash about her, etc. Quite frankly, I couldn't possibly care any less what her issue is with this other girl. And guess what - NO ONE ELSE DOES EITHER. This went on for almost the entire duration we were there trying (hoping) to relax and just enjoy ourselves. Her one friend tried to change the subject multiple times, but she just wouldn't stop.. she was the gift that kept on giving, like a bad case of herpes. Here's a hint - when a large, open, airy bar only has a dozen people in it, including staff, and they aren't blasting music, you don't need to take all the air out of the place by yelling at the person two feet away from you. If they are that deaf, then learn sign language. Have some respect for other patrons, and especially for yourself. Hopefully, her body odor isn't as foul as her attitude and her language. If so, I feel sorry for her friends, I can only imagine the stench. read more

On certain Mondays, all entrees are $12! This was honestly a great deal. The steak was cooked to a lovely medium rare, came over a bed of sweet potatoes mixed with other veggies, that matched the flavor profile well. The steak was tender, and came with a little seasoned butter too. The ribs were super tasty with a great sauce, fell right off the bone, and a great portion size. The ribs came with a Mediterranean couscous, which didn't match the sauce on the ribs at all, and was a bit acidic. The zucchini and squash were a great touch but also didn't really go with the ribs. Chicken lollipops were dry, was expecting more curry. Restaurant was definitely busy, mostly locals. Service was mediocre, but could be attributed to the fact that they were busy! Full bar available, with drinks in cans offered. Restaurant is a little on the smaller side, but cozy environment for sure. read more

We had fried brussels which were very tasty, buffalo dip hit the spot, spicy fried shrimp, fried pickles, fried tofu bites, and one or two other items. Great for our crowd to stave off hunger after travel. Really enjoyed it and our server was about as nice as anyone you will ever meet. Very attentive and sooooo much fun. Stopped in to this location to grab a quick healthy lunch. They had several salads that looked yummy. We sat outside where they have plenty of seating and great ambience! We had to local IPAs to start with. My day also had a bloody Mary which he said was so good! We both had a kale and radicchio salad. I had tuna and he had salmon. Came here for brunch with a group of friends. Wasn't really impressed by their drinks-- I ordered a strawberry rose slush and it really wasn't worth the price to me. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the steak and eggs I got. Steak was juicy, flavorful, and seasoned very well. Sunday March 26th 2023 Just shy of 1pm, I decided to stop by Caleb & Broad in Newport, RI. I didn't really plan on going here it was more of an "in the moment" decision I made & decided to try it out. It was basically perfect weather full of people out & about. People sitting both inside and outside. Seating outside + at the bar was quite packed around the time I came in. For this, try coming in early if you want a seat at the bar or outside seating. Inside seating wasn't a problem since there were still quite a couple of tables open. I was sat at a high top table for 1. Overall environment of the place I'd say is a bit noisy but clean with plenty of seats. A good casual place to enjoy a drink and some lunch. I ordered a Caleb burger, regular fries, and a chocolate chip cookie skillet (basically a pizookie) for lunch. Total came out to $27 flat. Caleb Burger: Super juicy & flavorful, buns soft and slightly crispy. 2 things however- 1.) I asked for the Caleb burger with just meat and cheese. I receive a burger with meat and what looks like an egg white on top with a hair in it. So I take that off and eat the burger with just meat and buns. 2.) The fries that accompanied the burger were good but could be made differently or use a different method of how to make them to come out with a better result. For dessert, i ordered the chocolate chip cookie skillet with candied bacon and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Tasted really good but crumbles/falls apart a bit too easily and the ice cream melted faster than expect as I was eating it. Next time I will probably order a pizookie elsewhere. Other things to mention/conclusion: -The menu is online only via a QR code -Limited seating outside & at the bar so get here early! -I swung by about 2 hours later & it was still pretty busy there so I assume this place has really good business. -Overall, not my worst food experience & may give this place another shot in the near future. -Service was pretty quick. The skillet took a little longer than the burger but not a huge deal, I'm not in a rush. Zoey my server was pretty nice & gave me a water pitcher in the shape of a bottle if I wanted more water. -Soda menu was very limited with coke, Diet Coke, or ginger ale but quite a couple options for mock tails and alcoholic drinks. read more

I visited Caleb and Broad for the RI Food Fights burger competition. Parking is available on the street for free or further down the road by meter. I arrived at 5pm on a Saturday. Outside seating was available, but the tables were taken. The walls were opened so we decided to sit at the bar. All the tables had drinks and no sign of food yet. We were able to order without any issue. I waited about 20 minutes for the burger, which was the first real food item I saw come out of the kitchen. For the competition and their menu, they offer one burger. The burger has fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, fried onions and herb aiolo. I was confused as the Prosciutto was more Prosciutto bits. I thought it was bacon bits at first. They don't add much flavor to the burger. I could only taste it when separate from the burger. The burger itself tasted fresh off the grill. The patty was juicy (medium rare) and the condiments complimented the patty. The burger came with a side of fries. The fries were soft and shrivelled, but tasty! No fry was left behind. I wouldn't come back for a burger (since Mission is within walking distance), but I would come back to try other items on the menu! read more

Caleb & Broad recently (like this past weekend recently) underwent some renovations and added a new head chef to their team. The menu retained some of the old favorites (my beloved Tuna Says-A-Me is still there!), but added some interesting and tasty new dishes as well! I actually really like the elevated comfort / bar food thing they've got going on here, and the quality has improved significantly since my less that stellar visit last year. The restaurant is still a funky flagship for all things artsy on Broadway. The low lighting makes it an intimate spot for dinner, but don't worry - the atmosphere is boisterous and lively, and you'll never know which local character you'll run into at their newly refurbished bar, complete with a cool and Instagram friendly wine rack wall for displaying the vino! Music and chatter is on the louder side, so I wouldn't pick C&B for a romantic date night. However, if you're looking for an affordable meal and a fun night out with friends, you're definitely gonna want to add this place to your list! My boyfriend and I came here last night because Caleb & Broad offers an awesome special where all entrees are $10 on Monday nights. Find me a better deal in Newport.. I'll wait! Where else can you get seared tuna for $10? I mean... awesome! We started off with some small plates from the bar menu, and Caleb & Broad does sharing portions right! For $2 (I am not joking), you get a good sized portion of homemade potato chips with an addictive cilantro sour cream (though the texture was more like a crema and less like a true sour cream), and for $7, you get 5 buttery homemade pretzel sticks with the best darn beer cheese dip I've ever had. I'd honestly come back for the bar menu alone! We were tempted to order seconds, but we had plans later that night for Diego's Trivia, where free nachos abound. All the better reason to come back next time. As for entrees, I had to go with my fave tuna dish, which was not as great as I remembered from last time. On my last visit, it was a heaping portion of flavorful fish coated in sesame seeds and served with a generous portion of wasabi rice and tempura veggies. Tonight's presentation was about a third of the size, and the tuna was room temperature and flavorless. I get that it's supposed to be sushi-like, but a soy-ginger marinade would have packed so much more of a punch! I know that the new chef is probably just getting his bearings at C&B, and this is a holdover from the old menu, so I'll give it a try the next time I come, and see if he's gotten the hang of it by then. I trust he will. My boyfriend loved the Chicken Lollipops, which were brushed with a spicy buffalo sauce and served with homemade bleu cheese dip and fresh sliced cucumbers, which I totally loved more than celery. Who even eats celery? But I digress. Again, you seriously can't beat the $10 entrees on Monday nights! Got there around 630 on a Wed night, was pretty empty except for a few barflies and a few people in the outdoor dining area. Decent drink and beer menu. I got a white sangria that was pretty tasty. We just wanted to snack on some apps so we ordered the Mac and Cheese (based off reviews), stuffed avocados and short rib tacos. Mac and Cheese was good but could've been a little bit cheesier - the pulled pork added a nice meatiness to the dish and the fried onions complemented it nicely. The short rib tacos had a great balance of sweet and spicy and was super tasty. But the star of the show for us were the stuffed avocados - now you're thinking how?
