This had got to be one of the best Mexican restaurants around! The food was delicious! Even the chips and salsa was good! It's a quaint lil Mexican restaurant with patio seating, very nice. Our server was excellent and asked if we needed anything several times. If you're in the area you have to try this place. SO GOOD!

Good Mexican place. Live music often, good place to watch a game. Nice staff. Been here 3 times. If you order right you'll be happy. For two recommend the big Cadillac Margarita, two birria tacos and enchilada sampler and share. You won't be disappointed.

This is the perfect beach town mexican restaurant. Great margaritas meets tasty tacos, with a key brunch bonus (pork chili verde with eggs) I started with the chicken tortilla soup Rojo and it checked all my boxes. The Owner Josh has strong vision for Cali Costa and he is constantly delivering. A perfect spot for a fun night out with friends and family.

My favorite lunch or dinner stop when I'm heading home to San Diego County from Laguna Beach. I really enjoy the California fusion style tacos. This time I ordered 3 - Crispy Taco with Carnitas, Cali Shrimp (soft) Taco, and Maui Chicken (soft) Taco. All three were really tasty and hit the spot. The free chips and salsa (just enough heat) are also always good. A couple of on-tap Pacifico beers to wash everything down, and I was a happy camper!

Cute little Mexican place with nice seafood options. I got the enchiladas Mariscos which has one green enchilada with shrimp that was quite tasty. The other enchilada was chipotle crab. This one was super hot, also appeared to be imitation crab so want to throw that out there. I enjoyed my food though and waiters were very attentive. My mom had the fish tacos and she also enjoyed them. I would recommend it for a nice easy sit down place for someone looking to eat some seafood.

It is interesting that some of the restaurants along the coast, in some of the towns, are not dog friendly, even when you see people with dogs everywhere! Luckily Cali Costa is a dog friendly place with an awesome outdoor patio! All the workers are really friendly and welcoming! Not too busy on a Monday evening which was nice for us. We had just missed happy hour. Ordered a house margarita and a skinny margarita. Both very good! The server in training suggested chips and guac, and why not? Really nice presentation and a really good serving of avocado and spices! I ordered the short rib enchiladas and Daveed had the combo taco and cheese enchilada. The short rib was good, and the sauce had a fair amount of heat. I wasn't too keen on the rice, and the pintos were good. Daveed thought he was getting a hard shell taco, but he said it was good. He would've preferred the pintos instead of the black beans. I would've wanted the black beans instead of the pintos, so maybe offer a choice? The presentations of both were really good. Since we're from San Diego, we do tend to judge Mexican food a little hard. We thought the food was pretty safe, meaning anyone who does not like spicy, or is apprehensive about Mexican food, is safe to eat here. There's something for everyone. Again, the service was friendly and upbeat, and they were attentive without being intrusive which we like. Oh, and Cako liked being there because she only lays down when she does! Cako Approves!

Tried this spot today for the first time and I very was disappointed with the quality of the food. The short rib enchiladas were decent, not good but not bad either. However, the Spanish rice and the refried beans were really disappointing for a Mexican restaurant with these prices. What I was served is something I would expect from a really cheap Mexican restaurant in an area where people aren't familiar with Mexican food. The beans were so watery it was like a soup with a few beans mixed inside and the Spanish rice was completely bland. I had stomach pain after the meal and subsequently had to run to the bathroom. You can definitely find much better Mexican food in the area for the same price that's much better quality as well. Only had one customer in the store at 2pm on a Saturday so that seems indicative of how popular this spot is. If they improved the quality of their food and used better ingredients this would be a much better place. For what you get right now, it is not worth the price you're paying.

Well we had a Farwell party. We made reservations. Service was awful. One person in the group wanted her meal a certain way. She got it a different way. The server said oh I must have forgot‍ we had to flag down the server mutiple times. Took a half hour just to get a water. Our hostess has very long hair. I feel the Manger on duty should have acknowledged us being there. Hey thanks for coming. Nothing! We were there for over 2 hrs. Very very disappointed. Thus was a 20plus yr Farwell party and it didn't turn out very well. read more

Riley was amazing! She was attentive, and since it was our first time, she told us the most popular plates and gave us some suggestions. Food was good, loved the fajitas, I had the combo and my friend had the surf n turf sandwich, which she also recommends. The staff was extremely friendly. We met a waiter that was on his first day, and it seemed like he had worked at that restaurant for decades. Although he did state that he had prior experience in the restaurant industry. The ambiance is cool, like a little tiki room vibe and an outdoor patio as well. The free salsa was delicious! We ordered tacos + a Cali burrito. Now, I usually order a Cali burrito from those janky-looking restaurants in the hood. And so, this was a pleasant surprise from a somewhat 'upper scale' area in Dana Point. The Cali burrito was "different" in comparison to what you have in the hood, but nevertheless, it was also delicious. The meat seemed high-end, and the guac inside the burrito with the fries was fresh. If I'm ever in Dana Point again, I will come back! read more

this place is fantastic I can't imagine anyone not giving it five stars. The price and the quality is amazing. I've come here for lunch during the week and then also brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Went here to watch the 49er game Sunday best experience. Food was good drink were awesome as well. Are server Adam was super friendly and gave the best service. Made a reservation and was excited to try the new restaurant. Chips, salsa, guac were all on point. Specialty drinks were lackluster, food for 5 came out all at different times, and my fish burrito had cold tortilla and 3 oz fish for a 24 oz burrito. True test of a restaurant is to see if they fill burrito w fillings or actually stuff it with protein. Well...I found out the answer. Stopped in for Monday Night football with my Husband and had such a great time. Lot's of comfortable seating, tons of TV's great friendly service, excellent food and amazing drink specials. We've been coming here for over a year pretty regularly. We used to always be served by Coby who was amazing and unfortunately is no longer here. We were served by Jeremy today who is new. He was really friendly and attentive. I really love there staff here. Love this place for brunch. I love bringing my dog here, the staff is so sweet to dogs. read more

We went to Cali Costa on their first day of business. I wasn't impressed. But I held off on posting a review because, well, it was their first day. It's only fair. Cut to several months later. Today. Oh boy have they improved! I ordered the flauta plate which I don't think was available when we went the first time. Generous portion and so delicious! My boyfriend ordered the carnitas burrito. Again, huge and stuffed with carnitas and other goodness. In my opinion their cocktails are a little overpriced. Ten bucks for a Jack and Coke is a little much. It's about a buck more than some of the other local places we frequent. I know, I know it's just a dollar! Anyway, looks like we will be adding this place to the rotation. read more

Chile relleno and shrimp enchiladas are good ok, I thought. However, my husband is the chili relleno fan and he said trader Joe's frozen one is better. Tuesday and Thursday taco deals Happy happy drink specials Bathroom is dirty and no paper towels Chips on salsa are good. This place was so incredibly loud, because they had a football game on my ears are still ringing. They said if we gave them five stars they would give us 30% off our bill, I went outside to let my husband finish paying because my ears couldn't take it anymore. They gave us $5 off instead of 30% off, but we were just so ready to get out of there that my husband didn't even notice that they are bad at math. This is why we just go to JFAT or the Point every week for date night...... We will be back to one of those two next week! read more

So disappointing. I'm new to the area and on the hunt for new restaurants, the reviews seemed promising but wow what a let down. From the outside it seems fresh and inviting but once inside it's dark and lifeless. We didn't have alcohol so I can't comment on the drinks but the food was so drastic from very bland to very seasoned and spicy. It wasn't much of a "restaurant" as it was a bar with food. It was on the pricer side for bar food as well. I sadly wouldn't be back unless there was some live entertainment or I needed a drink. read more

After five mins of being seated I had to get up and ask for a menu. Every time a server walk by we try to get their attention but felt like we were being ignored or maybe the live music there was to loud for them to hear. After 15 mins went by we finally got our drink order and food ordered. Sadly as a vegetarian they place the tacos on the same plate as the beef tacos seeing the meat juice all over my tacos real concern. There got a couple of vegetarian options there but it wasn't really good. The server was great but over work due to a party outside. She made up for it after waiting 30 mins and no one else try to help or ask if we been served. I really liked this place. Went to Baby Beach for the day and decided to try Cali Costa out. The vibe is pretty laid back and fun. When you walk in, the bar is right there. They have a nice patio area and a small indoor seating space. Lots of TV's around so you can watch whatever sports are on. The menu is good. I had the guacamole appetizer to go with our chips and salsa and man that guac was good! I didn't finish it all so I took it home to share with my husband later. Im not from this area, but next time I am in the area, I will definitely make a stop here again! read more

We used to eat their before it changed ownership ( pre COVID as Surf Taco) and the food was fantastic. We ate their the first day they opened. The owner was very attentive and asked how we like the food. The guacamole had no spice in it and the same with the carnitas . My wife said she would not go back. After a year we decided to try it one more time. As we walked in on a Friday afternoon the girl was eating at the bar and just said to sit anywhere. My menu had salsa smeared all inside the middle page. Our food came out fast but the rice was old, cold and hard. The beans were also old and had no taste to them. We will not be back. We learned our lesson. read more

I came in to visit a few friends in town and they took me out to eat at Cali Costa. Although they were closed inside, it looked really nice and full of TVs. I would come here for football every weekend if I lived here. The service was good for what they can do. There is not real service right now cause of COVID but a smile goes a long way, and this place is full of them. I met the owners and they are fantastic! They are really working hard to get threw hard times right now. Now for the food. Well, I wouldn't say it is good. I would say it is great! Fish tacos and huge burritos! Taste and flavor were great! I would make this place home if I lived closer, but will for sure visit with my friends when I'm in town. read more

So I was excited to try this new place out. We use to love going to taco surf when it was there. Went on a Saturday night with my hubby. Ordered a Mule that was on special. First they brought it in a reg glass. Not a copper mug like it should be served. 2nd the taste was blah. We ordered chips and salsa. Chips were good but salsa was watery and not much flavor. Great location, lots of TV's inside for sports fans and this really could be a great place for where it's located. However, the food is not that good and service was very slow. Mexican food is more Americanized version and was lacking flavor, not authentic and tastes very pre-packaged. I ordered Tacos, kids ordered a burrito and husband the enchiladas. Corn tortilla was barely warmed and tasted like it was just pulled out of a bag as it was hard and cracked immediately and barely any fish in the taco, mostly cabbage and tomatoes and the sauce on the Burrito and Enchiladas was a canned sauce and wasn't good. I hope they get a better chef in there or maybe stick to Burgers, Wings and offer Pizza because the Mexican food offered is terrible. Inside the tables and chairs are very old, we sat on a high top table facing the Tv's and the seats were sloping so it felt like you were slipping forward, not very clean either. read more

Cali Costa is in the original Hobby Surf shop in the heart of Dana Point. Taco Surf was here for 20+ years, but COVID hit them hard. Cali Costa started up during the pandemic and had been running strong with family since day one.

We learned that the kitchen is nut free (always double check as this could change), which was amazing since our son has a severe nut allergy. He was so excited to learn this as he can be limited at other places due to cross contamination or the wrong oils. Then when the food came out and it was delicious - it sealed the deal. It is now in the top of our list of places to go. The kids cheeseburger is good size and not a smaller version as some places do. The chicken tenders were panko crusted which was so crunchy. Before we were seated, I overheard a woman telling the host she had driven more than an hour…read morebecause someone over the phone said there was a chance they could fit her in. Instead, she found herself waiting on the cancellation list, hoping someone wouldn't show up. I remember thinking, "That's a long drive for pizza." Two hours later, walking back to the car completely stuffed, I understood. We had reservations for six, booked a few weeks in advance, and it all made sense by the end of the meal. The Sweet & Spicy was the standout for me, balancing sweetness, heat, and creamy cheese without letting any one flavor overpower the others. The Truly White was a pleasant surprise. Creamy ricotta and pepperoncinis don't seem like obvious partners, but the tang from the peppers kept the richness in check and made each bite better than the last. The Smoky Vodka packed bold flavor, and even the classic cheese reminded me how difficult it is to perfect something so simple. Every pizza shared the same foundation: an airy, beautifully blistered crust with just the right amount of chew. It carried the toppings effortlessly while still being flavorful enough to enjoy on its own. This is comfort food maximized. The Dana Point Wedge was outstanding and easily worth sharing. We also ordered the spicy wings, which brought plenty of flavor and just the right amount of heat. Almost as an afterthought, we ordered a few sides of their house made ranch for the wings. Before long, we were dipping pizza into it too. I don't usually mention ranch in a review, but this one deserves it. It's comfortably in my top three I've ever had. Don't skip dessert. We ordered both soft serve flavors available that day, Olive Oil and Cherry. They couldn't have been more different, yet both were exceptional. The Olive Oil was silky, subtle, and unexpectedly elegant, while the Cherry was bright, refreshing, and the perfect finish after such a rich meal. The Ace Pear Cider was crisp, refreshing, and paired beautifully with everything we ordered. The service was warm, attentive, and genuine without ever feeling rehearsed. The patio was comfortable without sitting in direct sunlight, and even the restroom was clean. There was a line for that too, which honestly made me laugh because it felt just as hard to get into as the restaurant itself. Parking is limited, but we found street parking about a block away. After eating this much pizza, the slow walk back to the car felt earned.

Luckily after 10 minutes of waiting two trams showed up instead of one and everyone that was waiting was able to get on a tram.

I came here I think pretty soon after they opened. I was pretty impressed with how quickly they got everything adjusted for COVID times. It's a really fun environment with a ton of TVS and my new goto spot for sports in DP. The bartender Niahm was super friendly and greeted us right away and showed us where we were able to sit (indoors wasn't allowed at the time). We got chips and salsa right away (yummy!) and I ordered tacos and my girlfriend got the burger. It was really good! We got flavored margaritas on the rocks too and treated ourselves to some high end tequila. Everything came out quick and the atmosphere was fun. I think the owner actually brought us our food, he was very friendly. It looks like they repainted everything and the whole place just looks clean. it's a hidden gem with a lot more seating than it looks like initially. We can't wait to go back!! read more

First time eating here - taco Tuesday night. Place was crowded and we were excited to try it. Food was ok, not great. We sat down and waited 10 minutes before a server came to our table and gave us menus - 15-20 mins before we got our drink order and food order in. So we'll over 30 mins before food came. People who came in after us got chips and salsa and drinks before us. Hard to get anyone's attention. I was. not impressed, especially for food that was just ok, not great. Only reason for 2 stars and not one, is once we got our waitress she was nice and tired hard, but overworked - not her fault. The staff is super friendly and fun. The place looks great for what little they did to change it, and the food, oh the food! I had your typical taco and enchiladas and it was great. One red and one green enchilada with a ton of flavor. The taco was fantastic. Their beef has a lot of flavor for a taco. We also tried the chicken enchiladas. Another winner. We only had a few drinks while we were there, mostly margaritas. They were good and strong. Cali Costa will for sure make our rotation when eating out for Mexican food. Tried the shredded beef burrito today, slightly off menu, but they don't mind accommodating. Bartender made me a seltzer-Rita. Food and drinks were both so good. Football games are all playing on multiple tv's. Love the atmosphere here. Customers were all having a good time enjoying the food and the football. A lovely Sunday. Highly recommend Cali Costa. I liked this place a lot, especially being a Cubs fan they had Wrigley field merch around the place. There is also tons of TVs and live music, so a cool spot to grab a bite and watch a game. I love Cali Costa Mexican food on PCH in Dana Point. but tonite I ordered DoorDash and saw Fricken'Chicken off of Cali Costa's menu. I thought chicken sounds good for a change, so I ordered. What a great new addition to the lantern district here in Dana Point! I would recommend stopping by for happy hour and enjoy an oversized beer and great tacos . Don't forget to thank the staff for their efforts during the slow down. Great service and food. read more

Let me tell you, I've had a lot burritos in my life but by far the Cali burrito from Cali costa is the best!!! It's a must have!!!!! The bartender niamh was really nice and her drinks where all on point!!!! Props to the cook also!!!! read more

Holy Pineapple Chili Margarita!!! This place is fantastic. The bartender is super customer service oriented and the food is amazing! It has a sports bar look with a restaurant vibe.. Do not miss this place if you are in Dana Point. read more
