Calibre Coffee in South Barrington was honestly a letdown. The place looks nice from the outside, but the experience didn't match the hype at all. The coffee tasted burnt and overly bitter, like it had been sitting too long, and for the price, that's unacceptable. Service was slow and felt disorganized--staff didn't seem very attentive, and it took way longer than it should have just to get a basic order. On top of that, the atmosphere was louder and less relaxing than expected, which defeats the whole point of going to a coffee shop to chill or get work done. Overall, overpriced, underwhelming coffee, and poor service. Definitely not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again. read more

Drove from Chicago to Huntley to visit family and desperately needed coffee on the way. Did a quick search for a non-chain spot and Calibre was very convenient. The 2 baristas working were very friendly, greeted me right away and made the drinks quickly. I got the biscoff iced latte, which is something I've had many times at other places. I really like that theirs isn't overly sweet, it doesn't have a ton of whip or cookie crumbles or syrup coating the sides which is what I prefer. The ube latte is sweeter but also not overly sweet like other places do. We ordered 16 oz but were given 20 oz cups, the barista said they were out of smaller cups. I think because of this they actually added more milk too, because the coffee taste was very light. I wish there was less milk or more espresso. Prices were high, $17 for 2 drinks is steep for the burbs. I'd come back, but I'd probably get an extra shot or ask for less milk. read more

The latte cost $7.50 and was their smallest size which was a bit pricey but their baristas know how to steam milk. I don't get many lattes that have perfectly creamy milk that hasn't entered cappuccino territory. The espresso was mild and worked well in the drink, although, I may have been disappointed had it been a plain latte. The croissant looked like it was provided by a bakery or was purchased elsewhere, it was delicious though! It was just okay! Not a ton of menu options, but I did enjoy my spinach and feta pastry. The coffee was nothing to write home about. They were fairly busy for a Friday morning! I return to Calibre' for the pleasing atmosphere to have a meeting or get some work done. In warm months, I can sit on the pet-friendly patio and sip my favorite ube latte, while my dogs chill in the shade of the awning. The servers are always friendly and make solid menu suggestions, if you're not sure what you want. The pastries are fresh and especially delicious warmed up. Tables and restrooms are typically kept very clean. There can be a bit of a wait for your drink on a busy Saturday or Sunday morning, so plan extra time if you need to be someplace. My friend told me about this place so I had to come try it. A really cool vibe inside, but the first time I came I saw they had lattes or drinks from various countries. I had to go with the Ube iced latte since I am Filipino. Honestly it's one of the best lattes I have ordered, I ordered it with oat milk, but that Ube cream at the bottom was so good! I actually came back a week later and tried a new drink called the strawberry Calpico with is basically a strawberry matcha. The cold foam was a strawberry cream and even more strawberry goodness at the bottom.. This was my first strawberry matcha I have ordered and I thought it was pretty good. This was inspired by a Japanese drink I believe. This place has been a little packed the last few times I've came, but it's definitely worth the wait! Calibre Coffee is a quant yet modern coffee shop in the middle of South Barrington's Arboretum Shopping Center. Upon arrival, a staff member let us know that the area had a power outage about 30 minutes prior so there may be a 10-15 minute delay. This was no issue at all as staff was HUSTLING! Please also be prepared that menu offerings of drinks and food seem limited/niche. The good news is what they make, they make very well! I've never had a latte with foam art before and it was a beautiful touch. My latte was delicious and not too hot. There was plenty of seating for the shop's size so this is the perfect place to grab a drink with a friend. It was also notably family friendly and had no issues with acoustics. While my caramel latte with oat milk was $8.53 (a bit of a premium) it was great quality of coffee and flavor! read more

I got the cortadito and I will NOT be needing anymore caffeine for the day, haha. It is a creamy espresso drink that taste delightful. Don't let how small the drink is fool you, it is strong and will keep you wired. The service and staff was good - staff was friendly and patient. It took me awhile to decide what I wanted and I didn't feel like I was being rushed. The menu is pretty diverse so make sure to ask any questions you might have before ordering. Calibre has seating inside and this can be a great coffee date spot or a spot where you grab a book or your work laptop and hang out here for a few hours. I have to say that Calibre is my favorite coffee shop in Illinois. I am a coffee connoisseur - coffee is my love language. I'll probably tell my family to engrave a cup of coffee on my tombstone. Unfortunately my hopes are never held high because every coffee is slightly underwhelming. Whether the beans taste burnt, the coffee is weak, watered down, stale, you name it... but not Calibre. I can't say that about any other establishment. I absolutely love this place. Also, Rosie's Gluten Free Sweets are amazing. I love the friands that they carry - they are little delicious pucks of cake that have a nice little crisp on the edges but they melt in your mouth - unexpectedly so. They feel dense so you wouldn't expect them to be as moist as they are, but holy moly are they delicious. Also, their scones are phenomenal. Another pastry that tricks you - you would think it's your average dry, heavy scone (no hate, I love scones) but these are actually surprisingly soft and moist as well. What a nice little coffee shop in Hoffman Estates that was very accommodating . I am not a coffee drinker, but I needed somewhere I do some work on my laptop. I ordered a café con leche just to have something to sip on. I am clueless about what good coffee is so I can't comment on if it was good or not. The presentation looked nice though! My husband and I arrived to the Arboretum early and had some time to spend before meeting friends for dinner. We were looking for a coffee shop in the shopping center and found Calibre Coffee, and I am glad that we did. When you step inside the front door, you can tell that this isn't your average coffee shop. I ordered the hot chocolate and my husband had the coffee with cream and sugar. The hot chocolate had a distinct and bold taste to it. The chocolate flavor really came through. Much better than hot chocolates that I've ordered elsewhere. When I tried my husband's coffee the first thing that I noticed was how smooth it was. Beyond the drinks, the coffee house has a great atmosphere. I could definitely see working remotely from here. Calibre Coffee came up as a suggestion on a website that identifies meeting spots halfway between two destinations as a friend and I were orchestrating our first post-vaccine coffee date. Neither of us had been here before today, but I have a feeling it will now be a regular place for us to meet. Located at the Aboretum, there was ample parking even on a beautiful, busy Sunday afternoon. We were greeted by a barista as we entered and then given some time to browse the menu. There's a listing of standard espresso drinks behind the counter and a board of International drink options on the wall. I ordered a cafe con leche, which is a five ounce cup of perfection - espresso and sweetened condensed milk with a dusting of cinnamon. It was hot and creamy and sweet without being overpowering. My friend had the Dirty and while I didn't specifically ask him how it was, he drank the whole thing so I have to assume it didn't suck? The ambiance in the shop is pretty chill. We saw lots of coming and going while we stayed to savor our beverages and catch up. If there was music playing, it wasn't intrusive or noticeable at all. Ordered a macchiato and could not drink it. The barista frothed the foam perfectly, however, the acidity of the espresso was off balanced with the bitterness and sweetness. Unfortunately the beans they use for their espresso drinks have notes of citrus that completely changed the taste of the drink. When asked about the beans, was advised they are from Honduras and that is what all the espresso drinks are made with. Was very disappointed with the taste. Barista was willing to remake with different beans, however, it was just as poor with a sour taste. Left the coffee shop very disappointed. 4.5 stars A great little spot within the Arboretum in South Barrington. Easy parking. Easy in and out. The place is well designed and very cool inside. I loved the "Coffee Board" which showed all the countries the coffees came from. They offer a large variety of coffees and many of them unique. They even have pour over coffee!!! Everything is great overall. The coffee was outstanding; what I would call a perfect brew. I had a latte. It had an intense and aromatic flavor. I loved it. The reason for the 4.5 stars? The service is too slow. If you are there to luxuriate over your morning cup of Joe, this is the perfect place for your morning caffeine drive. If you are in a rush- it's not the place to be. The server was awesome and super nice (and cute!) but this is not a practical place if you are off to work/ in a time crunch. Having a hand-crafted coffee is indeed a treat but if I lived nearby, I would want this coffee everyday. And I'd want it in a rush. I ordered a chai latte and a macchiato. My chai latte was so flavorful and because I added espresso, there was a good kick. My macchiato on the other hand was $5+ dollars of course, but when i picked it up, it was extremely small and less than half full.
