I had an excellent experience with Kathy (aka KC) at the Calico location in Pleasant Hill. Many years ago we purchased Hunter Douglas plantation shutters from Home Depot. We love the shutters, but a few pieces had broken off and one plastic rear tilt bar was missing completely. I contacted Hunter Douglas directly, and although they were able to replace the connectors, they were unable to help me find a replacement rear tilt bar. I went to Home Depot only to get the runaround from several people. I then contacted Calico since they are authorized dealers of Hunter Douglas shutters and although Kathy was surprised by my request initially, she took the time to investigate and got back to me as promised to inform me that the rear tilt bar had been ordered. It is so rare to receive the type of customer service I received from Kathy. She was helpful and knowledgeable and did exactly what she told me she was going to do! We went to Calico to purchase some upholstery fabric as we were going to recover some worn out dining room chairs. We had great assistance from Amy, who walked us through options and recommendations. She let us take home some samples to see how things looked next to the furniture and in the room/lighting. Super accommodating and friendly. It's taken me forever to write this review, but I'm happy to finally be sharing my wonderful experience. When I came into Calico I had a problem. I wanted to get new fabrics for my bedroom - duvet cover, throw pillows, curtains - with no idea where to start. Then, I met this designer, Amy. I had no idea she would be the answer to all my problems! Amy was so kind throughout the whole process. Remaining patient with me and answering all my questions. I knew I wanted the undertone of my room to be blue, and she helped me in picking out fabrics that would compliment the blue duvet we first decided on. I am so happy with the final result! Beautiful, excellent! Electric blinds by remote. Adjusts blinds without crawling on couch and blocks unwanted view of neighbor. Mary helped with selecting look and color from photos on my phone. I went to purchase drapery hardware in June of 2018. Getting in store assistance was a problem as the staff were busy talking to each other. When I got assistance it took three trips to the store to get the hardware ordered because I was ignored twice for extended periods of time. I was unable to make an appointment. When I ordered materials there was a 25% discount available. I paid $130 for measurements. The materials were either delayed 4 weeks or ? Because it took for me to call the store and email the designer for 10 days before the installer called me. I did not receive a response, not even a courtesy call back from the store to let me know after leaving umpteen messages that the materials were in. Then, I waited 2 weeks for an installer to come. When the grumpy installer came to the house he notified me that there were 20 rings missing from the order. It took several calls and emails to understand that the designer made a mistake and did not order enough originally. I waited an additional few months to get the additional rings. Once again weeks after the materials were due I had to call and email to find out where the rings were over several days. Again, no response until receiving a phone call to say they are at the store. I had asked the designer if they were going to be sent to my home and she never responded. After getting a phone message to come get the rings the designer emailed me that she wanted to check the order before contacting me to come to the store. She then offered to mail them to me free of charge, but due to the holidays they would not go out until the new year. When I arrived at the store the designer was present but had not even looked at the materials yet. They did not offer anything for my inconvenience. When I asked if I could get 30%off the additional rings because they were on further sale at the time, the answer was no. They also offer FREE measurements. The store staff did ask me every time I called if I was ordering drapery from them and each time I told them I made the drapes myself. Worst experience ever! If you have plenty of time for your materials and don't mind horrible customer service, the products are good. I will avoid this store at all costs in the future. Good luck. read more

In June of 2018 I purchased a large number of Hunter Douglas shades. The purchase and installation were fine. But beware of ever needing repair and customer service! In the winter of this year (2020) I needed a shade repaired. Not knowing what else to do, I called Calico. Even though the shade was still under warranty, they charged $415 to pick up the shade, send it to Hunter Douglas, and reinstall it. When another shade needed repair recently (still under warranty), I found another local company who came out, ordered the part from Hunter Douglas, put the shade back up, and will return to install the part when it comes in. All this for less than half the price from a company from whom I didn't even purchase the shades! While I understand that Calico does not have on site repair service, this is no way to treat a customer. Needless to say, I will never deal with them again! read more

I visited Calico at a very opportune time. Friday at around 2:45pm. Three sales associates and only 1 other customer. Linda offered her help and we immediately found the fabric choices I needed to look through . I let her know I'd be awhile and she offered to help me when I was ready. Linda gave me a sample of my choice and I took it home. It's gorgeous and thankfully goes with this particular Montgomery White I chose 6 yrs ago out of a brochure from Home Depot (never do that again ). Worst Upholstery Experience Ever! I only Yelp when I feel strongly against or for a merchant. Calico Corners' upholstery service made me deposit $235 (before doing the chairs), schlepp 6 chairs to their Pleasant Hill store and held them for 6 wks before calling to tell me it'd cost $1800, not the original quote $600 to do the chairs! When they returned the antique chairs to me, the back rungs had cracks in them. I called and emailed the Regional Manager to complain who didn't investigate with the local store or offer any compensation for the cracks. Please save your time and money and go to Discount Upholstery in Concord (see review above)! read more

I have purchased my drapes and window treatments, and even furniture and had upholostry done by them for over 30 years, but recently the quality has really suffered. The staff in stores seems less interested in service and I purchased window shades from them - very high end, custom colors, their "best quality". Well, it has only been three years. A large one in the breakfast area has a broken cord .The cord was very thin, and apparently weak to begin with, for the weight of the shade. "I'm sorry, but after one year there is a charge for repair" per a phone call to the Pleasant Hill store. One in the bedroom has the outer color peeling back from the under layer of color, discoloring. The two bathroom we have lost two panels, and one panel, respectively, of the vertical hanging shades to sun rot - the plastic just became too brittle. We are two people in our sixties with no grandchildren, central air, and gentle use. The quality of the products they carry now does not justify the price, expecially since the service is curt. I'm in a 20 year old home and the original blinds here since we purchased the home all work fine! read more

Great staff! Rec'd a call that my custom seat cushion was ready. When I picked it up, I carefully checked out the workmanship. It was perfect but seemed big. I commented on the size but really didn't think too much about it. I took it home and immediately realized they had put the zipper on the short side rather than the long side so back I went. The staff was very apologetic. They reviewed the order and confirmed the error was on their part. They advised me that they would send it back to the workshop on a rush basis and do everything possible to get it back to me ASAP. Why the **** review, because it's easy to be professional when making a sale. It isn't as easy to make good on an error. To error is human and these humans handled it very well! Directions were wrong from yelp then when I called the place I was across the street. I only wanted to browse the place to see if they ahd fabric in the shades and price range I was looking for. The lady told me on the phone they were closing in 5 minutes, I was there within that time and the door was locked. She should have just told that today they were closing instead of me busting my ass to get there. The ladies obviously don't want the business. I ended up at a home fabric place across from Joannes where most of the fabric was on sale for 1.50-3$!!! I would def. recommend to anyone looking for home fabric to check out that place first! read more

In the past I've purchased drapes and had furniture reupholstered without issue. In addition to items turning out better than expected, the turnaround time was within reason (typically no more than 8 weeks). However, my most recent purchase has now taken 11 weeks and will hopefully be shipped from the east coast next week! That means I probably won't get them until 13 weeks after I purchased them. The terrible part is I had to call not once but twice to get status. Sales associate I spoke with didn't seem to care it's taken this long for my order to be completed. She made the excuse because I picked flat panel that requires rings to be hand sewn as the culprit. Had I known this particular style would hold up order I would of offered to sew rings myself! I brought in a few major pieces of furniture to be reupholstered while my house was being built in Brentwood. The work got finished early and they were very willing to accommodate my request to hold onto my furniture until the house was completed (to avoid 2 furniture moves). Most recently I had to bring back a seat cushion that I had reupholstered because it didn't fit the hassock it belonged to. After attempting to diagnose the problem they agreed to redo the piece to match the hassock, which I brought in for them to work from. They didn't charge me any additional dollars for this fix. The manager, Cathy, is very nice and truly understands the importance of customer service. I'm considering ordering drapes from them because they are clearly committed to keeping me as a customer. read more

I was terribly disappointed in the lack of product knowledge at this location. The associate kept consulting two other store personnel for each and every question I put to her, which should have been within the scope of her knowledge. If she had said she was a trainee, I would have understood. There were errors made in calculating the estimate and she kept correcting herself. I asked about payment, how much down, how much upon delivery, and was told the entire amount needed to be paid up-front. Ok, I didn't have to do that before, but things might have changed. I just did not have confidence in this sales associate or that store location in general to place the order. I was afraid, very afraid, that it would get botched. I had had a very good experience with the Pleasanton location, but that has closed. I now await my delivery from Blindsgalore. read more

Nice end product but rather expensive for what I actually got. There were issues with complicated invoice printout. Paid for two extra pillows that I never received. Then when I called they magically found them. Had to ask for leftover fabric and notions that I had purchased. Then they magically found those too. They redid pillows that came with my couch and charged me outragiously for adding trim onto the already made pillows. Still working with them now. BEWARE OF THE CREDIT CARD THEY OFFER YOU. We were to pay cash, but they suggested this card of no payment for 6 months. Like fools we accepted and now owe over $1000 for interest because we didn't pay on the date of the 6 month anniversary. This was during Christmas time - ugh! Salesperson Linda great though, very creative and helpful when she came to my home. The store's professionalism in invoicing orders --- clarity a big issue. I stopped by the Pleasant Hill CA store on Saturday around 4:00. I needed drapery hardware and rquired help since I was not sure about everything I would need to hang my new drapes. The sales staff was busy chatting with each other and I asked 2 times for help. No one could bother to give me the time of day! I waited around and even stood at the register and it was like I was completely invisible! Another customer walked in with a cute dog and the staff was all over this person and the dog while I stood there waiting. No one ever greeted me or offered to answer a signel question. They clearly could not be bothered. I ended up walking out the door (after traveling 40 minutes each way to get to your store!!!) I realize it was at the end of a day on Saturday, but am rather appalled at this lack of customer service. I really miss your Pleasanton CA store....they always greeted me and could not have been more helpful and friendly whenever I came by. I ended up going to JC Penney where a very kind woman gave me all the advice and help I needed and even offered to help me put the drapery pins in! I bought hardware that is not nearly as nice as what Calico Corners sells. I have been a loyal Calico Corners customer for years and have spent $10's of thousands in your stores. NO MORE! Seems like the Pleasant Hill CA store has a good business prevention plan in place. I would have spent far more money in one of your stores had someone bothered to wait on me!!! read more

The sales people at the store are more than helpful. I ordered some fabric, but it came in lighter than the sample. When i called to question this I was told to bring it back in to the store. I asked to speak to the manager before I made the trip, and she did call me back within a couple of hours. She explained that she could help resolve this and would take care of it by getting in touch with corporate and getting something closer. That is the last I heard. I have called 2X since but the manager will not call me back, or hasn't. Not even to tell me she can't make the switch. So I have given up and scratched this off to poor management...UGH! Fortunately the fabric was not expensive, I am not out too much money, but left with disgust and disappointment on how this was handled... read more

Make sure that you check the amount of material that the store reccomends for your project. I am having three pillows made and they were going to order 4 1/2 yards for the 3 pillows. I didn't catch it until I got home and called and talked to the sales person that helped me. Her answer was that they needed to have that much fabric in case there was a flaw in the fabric ( which the customer should not have to pay for) .. I eventually talked to the manager who has reduced the yardage by 2 yards but would not let go of the 1/2 yard. CC does not return unused fabric to the customer. read more

The fabrics are gorgeous and the salespeople are very helpful and friendly. I am finally biting the bullet and getting professionally made draperies/Roman shades for my bedroom. I spent some time at Calico this morning with a salesperson who knew all the right questions to ask to guide me through the surprisingly complicated process. She saved me from getting drapes that would interfere with my French doors and made suggestions on hardware that would work with my drapes. I am generally a DIYer, but I have made enough mistakes in the past that I decided to spend the money to have it done right this time. read more

Ordered fabric to have cushions reupholstered with Jayne. She was a fantastic help with her designer savvy and very patient. However since I placed my order, she advised I would need to source new inserts for the cushions. I did do that and called back to ask about some changes that would create in the order. However despite calling 3 times, she was not there. I was then given to a woman named BONNIE who was very curt, rude and not at all helpful. She continuously interrupted me on the phone, told me she couldn't find the fabric Jayne had set aside and basically gave me the opinion she was quite annoyed at having to deal with a colleague's client. I will await my order to see if the quality is there. read more

The fabric selection is fabulous but the service has a lot to be desired. My associate was really helpful in the first stage, until I put down a partial payment of $900. Then she just disappeared. I knew my drapes were done when my credit card showed another $900 charge. No phone call. They claimed they didn't call because the hardware wasn't in but mysteriously the next day it was in. When i hung the drapes the hooks were in the wrong place for my hardware rings. When i called they basically blamed me, saying because i didn't place the hardware order at the exact same time as i placed the drapes order, the manufacturer didn't know where to place the hooks. How woudl i have know that??? What is a sales associate for if not to guide you through the process and /or call the manufacturer once the hardware was ordered and let them know where to put the hooks. It has just been a lot of its "your fault" and not enough " Geez let's solve this for you and oh, by the way thanks for your $3K+ order, we appreciate you as a customer and hope you do more windows, furniture, etc... with us. Let's solve your problem in the easiest and fastest way possible" . Someone needs to tell these people the housing bubble burst, unployment is at an all time high and if they want to keep business up with good paying customers and their jobs (business coming in) they might try a little high end service. Maybe go hang out at nordstrom and learn a few things. read more

I have worked with Calico using their in-home design services three times now. Each designer has been very different. However, I am currently working with Barbara McClure, a new In Home Designer for the Pleasant Hill store, and I am extrememly pleased. She listens well, is willing to work around my own design ideas, and she is not pushy. I wanted to go with a different window treatment that was not practical for my lifestyle, and she very gently suggested that I head in another direction. The treatments were installed this week, and they look gorgeous! Barbara works well with the professional measurer they use, Frank, to make sure each detail is covered. She has been willing to spend hours with me in home and in store, follows me as I change my mind a million times, and she has never lost her cool. We did have one glitch with a fabric order that she immediately apologized for and corrected. Overall, I highly recommend giving Barbara a call! (And one other word of advice: wait for a sale! Calico runs them all the time.) read more

Calico Corners has the worst customer service attitudes and practices that I have ever encountered in a retail service oriented business. They take an inescusable amount of time to complete even the simplest job (a loose couch cushion took over 8 weeks). In addition to keeping your furniture and work order hostage for months, their condesending attitide, particularly that of their work coordinator, a woman namned Maura, is completely inexcusable. This woman thinks she is so much better than her customers she leaves numerous, lengthy condesending messages that are embarrasing to listen to and this is the person that coordinates all of the work for this business. Other salepeople were not much better and in fact, customer service is so unimportant to them that they lock their doors 15 minutes before their stated closing time. One day I arrived there at 15 minutes before their stated closing time to pick up my product but the doors were locked and I had to knock on the window for five munutes, even though they were all inside looking at me, before someone came to unlock the door. There are many other places that sell just a nice of fabrics that don't have this poor attitude and I would recommend going anywhere but here. read more
