Upon approaching the hotel in the hipper 'newer' areas of town, one parks in the back lot and it is greeted by an airstream trailer with a happy helpful person who checks you in and gives you a physical key. This key is sacred. We loved our entire stay and looking forward to that great bedding that comforts us 'like an old yet familiar coat'. It's a calm and well designed space to reset and restore and read and refresh with libations. If one doesn't sleep in until noon, breakfast is served from 7 AM to 10 am and Lost Property Palm Springs hosts a mixed variety of baked goods like Croissants and Scones the size of a human skull. We love and have supported the Lost Property in Hollywood where we live and the talented people of Mixology work at the Lost Property Palm Springs and while this opens at 5 one can absolutely day into night drink here. I love mid-century style. The Skylark oozed style from the check-in at the airstream "front desk", to the bacon, eggs and home fries for the complimentary breakfast. There are only 28 rooms so it was delightfully under capacity for our August stay. The location is ideal right at the west end of Palm Canyon Drive. Close to the airport and close to the tramway. In season there is a high-end restaurant and bar on site. The pool area is delightful, clean, comfortable lounges, 4 cabanas the spa is powerful and hot. There are numerous tall palm trees circling the property. Scott, who checked us in, was friendly and very informative. The towels for the pool were thick and soft. We had a wonderful stay and we are already talking about another stay this fall. Again, shout out to Scott who really set the tone for the Skylark. Hotels in Palm Springs are expensive!!! Fortunately the Skylark is one of the more slightly more affordable ones, most recently $450 total for 2 nights. I believe its finishing up a major remodeling. Despite being a 70 year old building, it looks mostly new with that cool vintage mid century modern style. I might stay here again someday. PROS: -Vintage Mid Century Modern that just feels so freaking cool. -Large, clean, spacious room with MCM furniture and decor. -Comfy supportive king sized bed. -Fridge, coffee/tea maker, robes, microwave, LCD TV -Pool & Hot Tub open 24/7...though that could be bad thing. -Free Breakfast! I had no idea! Had waffles, egg fritata, crispy bacon, cereal, fruits, coffee...this will save you at least $20/day from eating out. Orange juice too...bring your own Champagne? -One of the cheaper hotels in pricy Palm Springs. -Free Parking -Friendly staff CONS: -It's an older outdoor hotel, so more noise comes through the door and ceiling if you're on the bottom floor. Earplugs are offered :) -Bathroom shower is vintage, in a bad way: a small standup stall, that still needs some remodeling, including patching a hole. -Not much in walking distance. A 1950's motel recently remodeled (some parts still under construction, the Skylark has the pros-and-cons of being a vintage motel. The pros: It's scrupulously clean--inside and out. My room was spotless, the linens and towels were excellent. I couldn't ask for a cleaner room. The staff is uniformly nice and helpful. The BEDS were very COMFORTABLE. The hotel was QUIET. The included BREAKFAST was delicious--lots of crisp bacon, an egg frittata, cereal, yogurt, toast and bagels. The cons: It's under construction (though I heard no construction noise over the weekend). It's basically an old motel, so the bathroom, while spotlessly clean, could have used work on the shower (though there was plenty of water pressure and hot water. The blackout curtains don't overlap, so it can feel as if they're not completely closed. Since the walkway is right outside the window, that can feel like a privacy issue. I'd suggest they add blinds behind the curtains. Bottom Line: Would I stay there again? Yes! read more

We were in Palm Springs for pride weekend (unexpectedly) and it was challenging to find a place to stay. This was one of the few options close enough to the main strip, so we book it sight unseen. I must admit that when we pulled up to this property I was a bit concerned. It looks like a sad, dilapidated old motel, but once you walk into the main space, it is clean, quiet, and has a nice pool and hot tub. The rooms were pretty basic, but newly renovated and offered what we needed. The whole place is under a huge renovation and I'm sure it will be really nice once it's completed. This hotel is awesome! We stayed here in November 2023 before the restaurant/bar was fully open and knew we wanted to stay here again this year for Palm Springs Pride. The hotel is modern, the rooms were spacious, the pool and hot tub are well maintained (and I think the pool is heated), and the drinks and food were delicious. Special shoutout to Rhino (and the rest of the staff at the cafe/bar) who took care of our group all weekend! It's in a great location and not too far from downtown Palm Springs (about a 20-25min walk). It's on the main pride parade route so it was cool being able to see it up close! My second stay at Skylark in the past year - only gets better and looking forward to staying for the third time in August 2023. Realize they are refreshing their front entrance, so that is exciting and as a guest the renovations were barely noticeable and not intrusive. I really love this hotel for all the reasons other 5-star reviews have mentioned, so here is my succinct summary: 1. Get a deluxe room, a small upcharge but very nice and worth the nominal increase, 2. Hot tub always on / always hot (my experience is often a hotel hot tub is down for maintenance or the temperature is set low to reduce energy costs), not at Skylark - it is wonderful. 3. Breakfast / coffee set up - just what you need before starting your day. 4. Pool - Immaculate, clean, plenty of NEW pool towels, new chairs / and brand-new umbrellas. It is clear the management is not stepping over dollars to pick up pennies at the expense of guests. I enjoy the BYOB rules on drinks at the pool area. The pool also has an amazing view of the moutians. The grounds are very well kept, which makes me think the rooms would have similar upkeep. Unfortunately the rooms are a bit run down and need paint, revamp and better constructed beds and furniture. The beds look like they are going to far apart. Skylark is an awesome little boutique hotel that is super close to downtown Palm Springs. Driving is literally ten minutes or less, there's plenty of street parking if you can't fit into the tiny parking lot in the back of the hotel. The complimentary breakfast is much better than I expected, there are waffles on weekends. Everything is to go with pandemic going on but I felt very safe and you can eat outside by the pool. The pool and hot tub were well maintained. You have to ask the front desk for pool towels. There is a microwave you can use in their office. Minor downside is that you have to pay a "resort" fee which I am not sure what it really covers. It's $25 per day. And the showers leave something to be desired as the shower head is not adjustable so it's just a strong spray of water hitting the wall and not really on you. Plus it's very dark and cramped in the shower but it gets the job done. read more

I was stuck in Palm Springs for some medical stuff and booked this hotel for one night. Firstly, it is undergoing renovations and there is no sign posting. It was almost impossible to find and when it did eventually find somewhere to check in, the poor woman was practically in a closet!! I couldn't even believe that they were open. Having said that, my room had been renovated and was clean and pleasant on a nice Palm Springs mid century modern vibe. Do that was a nice surprise. But - the doors are flimsy and cheap and the locks are feeble to say the least. All the money spent on dance renovations is wasted if your infrastructure is unsound and your guests don't feel safe. I was going to skip the offered breakfast but the dining room was clean and airy so I grabbed a coffee and a bagel but there were eggs and bacon on offer too. But, you have a hell of a nerve charging a $28 "resort fee" for what is essentially a construction site. The Marriott you ain't. TLDR: It's going to nice in a few months but right now it's a scary hodgepodge. read more

Skylark is still my go-to hidden gem of Palm Springs. Pull up in front to check in and once you get on the other side of the doors you'll see their beautiful little oasis. This is a boutique hotel with about 40 rooms. They have a fire pit that they light at night, jacuzzi, and my personal favorite, the 24 hour heated pool. Where else can you find that?! They play chill music over the speakers out by the pool and enforce quiet hours overnight. This hotel is located on the main drag as you're driving into Palm Springs. Continue down the same street for just a few minutes drive or about a 20-25 minute walk and you'll end up at the main downtown area filled with shops and restaurants. It's all very accessible and there's also a shuttle that stops right outside and will take you downtown. The rooms are pretty basic but very comfortable. You'll have a mini fridge and sink area with a microwave in the room in case you want to have snacks or make drinks. The sink and shower in the bathroom are tiny but get the job done. They serve complimentary breakfast in the morning until 10am. Currently due to COVID regulations they prepare a wonderful hot meal and have employees serve it to you. During our stay we had a veggie frittata, bacon, waffles, yogurt with granola, and fresh fruit. For the super affordable price, I really think you get it all here. read more

Though it's a nice, retro property there are a few things bothersome for this visitor: The techno music in the pool area plays until 9:00 pm and the sound permeates the room and even with the TV volume turned up the music could still be heard; next there was no hot water in the bathroom sink; last - the light on the night stand sits low and not bright enough to read a book with without leaning down with the book under the light. It's just a really little sweet little place to stay and there is nice restaurant on property and soon there will be a bar. Scott at the front desk (and all the staff) were amazing and made us feel so comfortable and welcome. I liked being in the Movie Colony area. When we were there it wasn't full so it was wonderful to have an almost empty pool. I am concerned that the bar might make it too loud for people staying there if it's open too late... especially the rooms above the bar. We stayed at this cute hotel the night before thanksgiving because we were in town visiting family. I remember staying at the property many years ago, but it's been renovated and still in the process of being renovated. The new renovations look awesome and I love that they've kept a classic vintage Palm Springs vibe! Boutique? I think not! Well, its been a month and I still have not heard from management regarding my stay, therefore I am moving forward with my review. This hotels website boasts a modern twist on a California 50's classic, Skylark Hotel offers 28 uniquely styled rooms meticulously restored to the character of the mid-century era. My room was far less than meticulously restored, even for the 50's. The hotel is isolated and secluded which is a good and bad thing, the bad is if you aren't careful you'll drive right by and miss the place; another negative is that because the hotel is not visible beyond its secluded perimeter as such at once behind the curtain its not as glamorous as they would lead you to believe. One could find the positive in that unless you are a guest you aren't able to simply wander in; another good is that it does offer privacy and seclusion. Check-in was fairly simple however, they place a hold on your card that is far greater than what the room or weekend stay would be, somewhere upwards of $300 hold which for what you're getting is absurd. Not a big deal, however, in the sake of transparency this should be disclosed upfront or at time of booking, etc. Hotel WiFi is slow and spotty at best, you're far better off using a personal hotspot. The technology in the hotel is severely lacking in the sense you are transported back into the 50's there are no USB connections anywhere and there are barely any outlets to plug anything into should you need to charge a laptop or cellphone. AC units are either window or wall units and barely can keep the room cool with the Palm Springs heat; at least in my room. The TV's while LCD are small 32 inches at best and if you are one to want to watch TV from the bed, well you're not going to see much. My office computer has two 27 inch monitors. The rooms are all physical key, typical of hotels of the time, therefore its authentic, so be mindful not to lose your key, there's a $50 lost key charge and a $250 door service fee if you need them to come let you in your room after hours as the front desk is not manned 24 hours. The hotel lacks sufficient parking, thus if you can't find a spot in the tiny parking lot you're forced to park on the street. Luckily it was upward of 100 degrees as the hotel shower had difficulty generating hot water, and had little to no pressure. Speaking of the shower, the shower head in my room had so much threading tape on the shower head, however, that still wasn't sufficient in stopping the leak so the water sprayed pretty much everywhere else except on your body, if that wasn't bad enough the calcium buildup in the spray nozzles diverted water away from you rendering the shower pretty much useless. Clearly you can tell someone recently left the room before my check-in as there was the remainder of the body wash from the previous guest rather than providing a new body wash and shampoo. Luckily I travel with my own. Touching back on that water pressure, the toilets had little, even going number one you had to hold the handle or flush multiple times. The railing leading to the upstairs rooms along the staircase and balconies was sketch at best as the bolts are all coming out, one wrong lean and you're going over. The stairs on said staircase are in disrepair, a nail went through my sandal and into my the bottom of my foot. The have plywood onto of the stairs rather than repairing the stairs. As this is not treated, it has become weather worn and such a severe trip hazard. Other hazards are broken tiles in the shower, therefore I had to shower with sandals on, filters in the AC units were not changed thus if you're prone to allergies as I am, you may or may not experience difficulty in breathing whilst trying to run the AC. There was a catalyst of other issues with my stay and this room, however, rather than continuing with the many downfalls of this hotel which would turn this review into a novel I will conclude with the following. This would be less than a two star, however, Lenali was by far the most pleasant and helpful associate at the hotel. She truly cares about the guest and their experience, however isn't empowered to provide a solution in most cases and if forced to refer you to the GM of which does not respond to messages. I'd like to point out another individual who displayed good guest service, I can't recall his name, however, I believe he was a cook or responsible for the continental breakfast. He was very pleasant. I am unsure how this hotel has received the 2021 Traveler's Choice Award unless reviewers stayed at a completely different hotel, had blinders on while here or were completely delusional from the intense Palm Springs heat. While customer service is an important part of any hotel stay and Lenali's customer service is stellar, it unfortunately doesn't negate the condition of the hotel room or the hotels inability to provide a solution due to the many issues encountered read more

I've been driving cross country staying one night; two nights; maybe a maximum of four nights; at a hotel, before moving on and going somewhere else. At this point I think I'm a pretty good judge what hotels are good what hotels are bad and what hotels need work. The Skylark is a hotel that definitely does not need work. This is a good hotel- scratch that- a great hotel and a great place to stay if you're in Palm Springs. I drove from Connecticut across the country. I spent time in Colorado, drove further to the West Coast to spend time in SoCal and now it's time for me to return to the East Coast. I didn't intend to be in Palm Springs but I found myself here. I was a little tired and decided to spend the night. Of all the hotels that I looked at, it seemed like the Skylark offered the best reviews at the lowest price and usually when a hotel has really good reviews and the price isn't extreme, I tend to latch onto those hotels. The The Skylark is an old 1950 style motor lodge. It's definitely been renovated. It does show some signs of being old however the renovations seem to keep the hotel fresh. My room was very large, the bed was very comfortable, the AC blew cold and when you're in the desert and it's gonna be over 100° every day you're gonna wanna place where you can cool off- you're gonna wanna place that has cold AC- you're gonna wanna place as a comfy bed. The water in the shower did not get as cold I would've liked however I am in the desert and I can forgive that. There were no USB ports to charge my devices and that is one negative that I could find. Another negative might be that the bathrooms were a little on the small side. The toilet was definitely on the lower to the ground. I'm a bigger guy so when I have a smaller toilet that could be a sign for trouble. However the small toilet did not really give me any trouble. It had a single single person shower the water didn't get as cold as I would've liked for being in the desert but as I've said I can forgive that as well. The hotel came with the pool and the pool was great to cool me off at night. One thing that's really cool about the pool here versus other hotels that this pool's open 24 hours. So now no matter what time of day or night it is if I have the urge to get wet I can just hop in the pool I don't have to worry about the pool being open from X hour to why hour because the pool is just always open. I was safe. There weren't any bedbugs. My car didn't get broken into, it was secure. The front desk was friendly and overall I want to give the Skylark hotel in Palm Springs A+ or a five star review. It's a great place to stay. It wasn't expensive. And when I say it wasn't expensive, that means it was under $200 a night. This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a safe good friendly hotel in Palm Springs doesn't break the bank, that has cold blowing AC, a comfortable bed and a pool to cool off in. read more

This was such a fun place to stay during Palm Springs Pride. The management is so welcoming and accommodating. This was a last-minute booking, so I wasn't really expecting much - but the room was clean, serviceable, and had a great view of the San Jacinto mountains. The shower is a teensy bit small and dated, but what are you expecting? It's a renovated motel in Palm Springs, the mid-century vibe is what you go there for. The pool is open 24 hours, it's heated, and clean. The airstream trailer check-in is adorable, the free bikes you can rent are fun. Second visit here. Although the motel is ok we had a bad experience upon checkout that will probably not have us returning for another stay. My friend accidentally left two travel bags filled with clothes, makeup, hair products and some food items in the room. After arriving home and noticing the bags had been left behind, she called the hotel and the girl who answered the phone just quickly responded that nothing had been turned in without even bothering to check, just a quick, "No, nothing's here. Bye." When we left there were only about 4 other cars in the parking lot so it's not like they were busy and overwhelmed with guests. So, either the housekeeping staff just threw the items away as quickly as possible, kept the items for themselves or the front desk girl was too lazy to even check if anything had been turned in. Either option puts a negative spin on the Skylark. There are a lot of nice places to stay in Palm Springs so we'll probably look at some other places next time. Too bad. read more
