This review is long overdue as I was trying to forget about the terrible and stressful experience with California Comfort Control. I am not one to post negative reviews on Yelp but I want to warn others. We were referred to this company through our relator for HVAC inspection during our home buying process. The first hiccup was that the day of the inspection the technician that was sent out told us he was not qualified to do the inspection and that we needed to reschedule. Our relator immediately contacted the manager of CCC and he was apologetic but could not get a qualified technician out that day so we had to coordinate another time which was inconvenient for us, our realtor, and the sellers. We did reschedule and that technician was informative and did the inspection and gave us some recommendations for repairs to ensure longevity of the HVAC system (change air filters, install zone controller, and unclog the primary drain line that was currently causing a bit of leaking outside the home) We agreed on the work and had them come out for repairs in the next week which cost over $1,000. Within 10 days after their repair work, the leaking was occurring outside the home again and in a greater amount than before meaning the primary drain line was clogged again. We asked them to come out and evaluate because it was under "warranty". They came out and unclogged the drain again but could not tell us a reason why this would be occurring so soon after their last visit except for that "the technician might have forgotten to fully empty the drain pan and/or flush enough water through the drain to ensure it was cleared AND that they could not visualize that entire primary drain so they are not sure if it was cleared." This was slightly concerning but this was our first time dealing with this issue so we assumed this was normal. Less that a week later, the leaking is occurring again outside the home in huge amounts and now the AC unit itself and not blowing any cool air. We asked CCC to come out again to inspect the unit because its under the "warranty" which I confirmed with Josh and Randall before having the technician come out as I was wary of trusting CCC at this point. The technician arrives and tells us that the primary drain is clogged again (and again with no reason/fix) and tells us that there is now a high pressure leak and the cost will be close to $1,000. They also want to charge us a separate fee of $800 for running the test for the leak which they never indicated was going to be a cost to us. I contacted Josh and Randall back and they ensured I would not be charged for the $800 but they continued to send me invoices for the amount. I had another company come out within the week to evaluate the unit and they found that the primary drain had never been fully cleared by CCC and the drain was incorrectly tilted and that was part of the reason the backup continued to happen. They also diagnosed the leak and were able to fix it plus the primary drain issue for less that $800 total!! And since then we have not had any issues. Overall the entire experience with CCC was terrible. In addition to everything above, they were not able to get the initial invoices we needed sent in a timely manner, I was sent someone else's invoices on two occasions, and we were sent spam emails on a few occasions from their email address. The worst was what I stated above when they continued to send me the $800 invoice despite numerous phone calls from me and my relator with Josh and Randall ensuring it wasn't owed. My poor relator ended up paying it because she felt bad that it was stressing us and she felt bad for referring us to this company!! Also after the new HVAC company did our repairs, Josh stated that he may be able to give us "credit" back since the work was not done fully by CCC because the drain was never fully cleared. He asked for the invoice from the other company which I sent to him on 12/7/20 and still have never gotten a response. At this point, I am just glad to just be done with CCC but its another example of them not following through. Josh and Randall were nice enough when you spoke to them on the phone but they were overall unprofessional and dishonest about promises they would make. We dealt with so many companies throughout our home buying/selling process and this was our only negative experience. Just beware!! read more

They were referred to me by my realtor. They were able to quickly diagnose the problem and advised that my part was under warranty since the furnace wasn't that old. They fixed my heater, for much less than what another company estimated (other company said it was a different problem). Backstory: I had another company come out to see why my heater was not working on my 3 Year old furnace prior to reaching out to California Comfort. The other company suspected it was my inducer motor. But I was not entirely convinced since I've used the heater a total of 3 times over 3 years. They also said that Rheem wouldn't honor my warranty, so I was a little sketched out. I am glad I called for a second opinion. Cameron @california comfort was able to determine it was a circuit board issue. They replaced the part under warranty and I paid for diagnosis and labor. read more

I'm a retired Drywall contractor, Was in the business for over 30 years. So I have a lot of contacts in the Construction industry. When it came to HVAC though, the guy I know only did big commercial projects. So I had to look elsewhere. So I made a few calls and a one time property manager co-ordinator I knew said Richard M. Of California Comfort Control was the one to use. They do it all and on top of that he was a Great Guy! My problem was the exhaust fan on my AC Condenser Unit died just before the 4th of July weekend. The wife was not happy. I called Richard around 1pm on Friday. He said he'd see what he could do (I was pessimistic, I knew that everyone wants to leave early on a holiday weekend). His Forman, Josh, called around 2 and said he was trying to find someone to come out on Saturday. An hour later he called and said a Tech would be at my place at 4:30, he was there at 4:14! Even did extra work that was needed to be done because they wanted it to be done right. Showed up on time and got the unit running. Work completed: Gas vent through the roof and sealed roof, connected gas line, electrical to unit, ran thermostat from unit to new spot in wall... no extra holes in wall. So your driver in the van with the last three 1H1 on the license plate stopped at a light that just turned yellow so I had to slammed my brakes to stop. Then reverses and almost backs into me. Another of the vans in front of it darted out and cut off another guy in the turn lane. If your service is anything like the way your drivers drive I wouldn't want you working on my heating or air. read more

We noticed our A/C wasn't cooling our house like it had in the past. We called and spoke with Josh, on a Sunday morning. He picked up! On a Sunday morning. Not only was he friendly, but he was able to get us an appointment for later that day. With the heatwave, we didn't want to have to wait. Vincent was our tech, and he was very polite and knowledgeable. He wore gloves and his mask and took great care in our home. He explained that because we had too high of a filter, it was causing the unit to work extra hard and therefore ice was building up around the coils. He also warned us that, because the unit had to work so hard to bring in air, we were making the motors work extra hard. Well no wonder our SDG&E bill has been higher than normal, the A/C unit was working double time. I would highly recommend California Comfort Control. The WORST experience ever! Three visits to repair my HVAC unit.The first they added freon stating it was low, it worked for about a week. Next visit, they said the freon leaked out and they would be back to fix the leak. The THIRD visit, when questioned about fixing the leak, they said-- "we already did that last time.." um- no you didn't! The third visit they changed a filter stating that was the problem, All fixed! Well, here I am a few weeks later and the heat doesn't work.I have asked for copies of the repair invoices and they give me the run around. I concur with all 5-star comments here - the team at California Comfort Control is responsive, reasonably priced, and effective. We've used them twice, and both times they came out that same day and then quickly diagnosed and fixed the issue (on one occasion our fan stopped working, and the other a piece of the A/C unit just needed replacing). We have a relatively older A/C system, and we appreciated that they didn't try to hard sell us on a new unit (unlike a larger local A/C company that tried really hard to convince us we needed a whole new system and also quoted us an unreasonable price to just fix the problem). Cal Comfort Control's technicians were honest about the expected life of our unit, and the cost to fix v. replace. We elected to fix, but if, and when, we need a new unit, we'll be sure to contact California Comfort Control first. Thank you! read more

1 star. Took almost a week to have someone come look at my AC system. They said they would be there at 8. No one was there by 8:30 so I called. They said they'd be there at 9. Didn't show up until 9:30. After that, I followed up a few days later, they said they sent the request to warranty; that was a lie. I called the warranty company, they had NOT sent anything to them. I called them back everyday in which the response was "we will call you by end of day" 2 weeks later AC not fixed, and haven't been contacted about when they will schedule me to fix it. Avoid this company at every cost unless you're bound by warranty to work with them. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

They spent an hour at my place trying to fix the air conditioner which was beyond repair and I was still charged 230$ . The rates quoted for a new a/c were very reasonable and prices were fair considering time spent to attempt repairs . Neither of the workers wore masks which was upsetting to me since Im a senior citizen and have a pre existing condition and so try to take precautions against Covid . I wasn't thrilled with their lack of covid precautions so won't be using their services again. Just to update , after my review josh from comfort control called me to apologize for the workers not wearing masks . I give them extra stars for reaching out . I really appreciated that they took the extra step to make things right . I'm sure that seniors in the future can expect workers to be wearing masks on service calls from this business. Chances are if you're using Yelp to find help with your AC then you've got a real problem, and probably an urgent one. During a recent heat wave, I discovered that the AC wasn't working at all, so I hit Yelp (much like you're doing) and started calling for help. What I hadn't considered is that since heat waves aren't super common near the beach (although they are increasingly so), everyone was busy and I couldn't even get someone on the phone to talk to. I was literally 0 for my first 20 attempts in calling for help. I started getting desperate, using any method I could to reach out, including the "Send Message" option in Yelp. I went from wanting to talk to someone right now, to just hoping anyone would acknowledge my need for help! Cameron responded almost right away, not only that but this was Saturday and he was able to get an appointment with me the next day (Sunday of Labor Day weekend, no less) - others that finally did get back to me, were telling me a week or more before they could come take a look. I ended up having to do a major repair, luckily I have a good friend in the business (although not local) who was happy to review quotes for me and he was surprised at how fair and accurate Cameron's quote was, including a few different options. These guys are a pleasure to work with, always on time and communicative, extremely fair and I've now got cold air blowing on a hot day, without any issues. I couldn't recommend them any higher - definitely give them a shot, I think you'll be as pleased as I am. read more

I got several bids to replace my 26 yrs old unit and duct work. Richard was very reasonable and answered many questions and helped us get more air to upstairs bedrooms by suggesting bigger vents ! No one else made any suggestions, just the standard run of the mill install. Richard was very quick to respond and was available !! He and his crew did a fantastic job removing all the old duct etc and replacing it all with new energy efficient system. We are very happy with our system and can't thank Richard and his guys enough. Several months later some tape came off on unit in garage and Richard was quick to respond and came out the next day to touch it up and make sure it was all taped and secured ! Great experience with Caleb from California Comfort. Landlord called them in after a previous tech from another firm failed to diagnose an intermittent AC issue. Caleb was able to diagnose that a replacement coil unit had been wrongly installed. He rerouted and replumbed the condensation drain properly on the spot and now all is good. Great guy, diligent and systematic, clear explanations, open minded to the difficulty of debugging something that's not always failing. I received an AC bid from a large, well known, HVAC company (who shall remain nameless) but was suspicious of their recommendation to replace a 16 year old furnace, stating the heat exchanger was short-lived. We were interested in adding an AC unit to the furnace, as well. I thought I would get a 2nd opinion and was referred to CCC by my boss, who had prior experience with CCC performing work on his house. We are both construction inspectors and know what good work looks like. I trusted the recommendation and called CCC. After a brief look inside the furnace, it was determined the furnace did not, in fact, need replacement...what honesty! We took the bid for just the AC add-on in the form of a coil and condenser. The price was right, the coordination and communication were spot on, and the quality excellent, resulting in a thorough, well thought-out installation. There was minor call back work faithfully and eagerly performed. Take it from an inspector, you will be well-served. read more

We had our AC unit go out last weekend. Called around a couple places and soonest we could get an appointment was Friday. A friend told me to try Richard Mason at California Comfort Control, that he'd been in the industry for 20+ years and had recently started his own business. I called him Sunday afternoon and he came over Sunday evening. No 5 hour window like the other guys; he texted me when he'd be there and he was prompt and courteous. We thought for sure we were going to need a new AC unit, but he diagnosed the problem and got our dinosaur of a unit fixed and working within an hour. My A/C system presented a difficult challenge for two previous AC companies that never really solved my issues. Rich and crew came to my home and in short order diagnosed that my original duct work was undersized for my compressor and square footage hence a very inefficient and expensive system to run. Rich and crew ordered al the equipment they needed and installed Ecobee thermostats and the system has been running efficiently ever since. My electric bill this past month since the work was done dropped by 25% during the hottest portion of the season. I really appreciated their able knowledge and experience in pin pointing the issues and bringing them finally to a successful conclusion. Rich and crew where excellent communicators, always on time...always did what they said they would do. In addition since this required work inside the house as well, they were neat and tidy as they progressed.
