We ordered food for my coworkers bday & everyone enjoyed their food except me. They canceled our order at first so I had to reorder. They ran out of fried shrimp so had to settle for calamari, big mistake. It was so uncooked and gross. I should have ordered a healthier option lol. But the clam chowder was just soupy milk no seasoning, no clams no potatoes nothing I was so sad. Also look at my plate theres no fries, I had like 8 fries total. The food is pretty good for fast casual. I just feel so unwelcome dealing with a giant touchscreen for ordering. It's also hard to navigate and I have trouble finding the actual items I want. There should defiiitely be an "order with a person" option. This is the only restaurant I know of that doesn't have a real person option (including the always fancy Taco Bell). There's a bunch of people behind the counter. Why not let them be real people? I try going here every couple months, but I usually just end up going somewhere else because I don't feel like dealing with a giant iPad. I work on a computer all day. It would be nice not to have to deal with a computer screen when i go out to lunch. read more

I know that everything is automatic now. You don't talk to anyone when you order, but it would be nice to get a little acknowledgment that you've come to this establishment out of all the other establishments to eat. A nice welcome when you entered and a thank you for coming would have been a nice touch. Next let's discuss the fish and chips. When we first came here they were hand battered and delicious. Just the right amount of batter and crispness. Then one day they changed. It appeared that they had just bought the pre battered fish at Costco, I'm not knocking Costco as everyone loves a good bargain, but we came here for hand battered and it no longer appeared to be hand battered. They may have gotten too many complaints on that batch of fish, because now it's gone back to a more uneven but thicker batter. It's not as bad as the Costco ones, but it could be better. Something still isn't quite right. We miss the fish and chips they used to serve when they first opened, the one that was defiantly hand battered. And the chips were better back then, Now they are a bit on the limp side. A favorite of mine is the tilapia with the butter sauce. It was still good but a third of the portion was missing. I don't know if they've downsized all of their portions, but mine had been downsized. I don't think I'll be back. Always check your recipes before you pay and after you get your print out. We got double charged due to an error in the system and they were unable to fix it due to we already paid for the order. The bathroom sink in the Women's room is an issue. It's great they have a sign warning you the water is hot, but they need to do something about it because we still need to wash our hands and the water temperature can't be altered by the customer, but can be altered by the establishment. Please fix the temperature of the bathroom sink so we can wash our hands in a reasonable amount of warm/hot water. This used to be our go to place to eat in the shopping center when we make our monthly visit, but I've rethought this and we're going to have to find another restaurant. read more

This spot is cool. Nice to have a seafood spot nearby with a good variety of dishes. The Cajun shrimp tacos were bomb! The shrimp was plump, juicy and flavorful with a tiny kick. The fish & chips was alright. The flavor was good but the fish was a little chewy, like maybe it was over cooked. I loveee tomatoes so the tomato and feta side was a perfect refreshing side. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Listen this spot was so delicious. I was a bit taken aback because on first impression it gave a fast food restaurant with the series of self service kiosks. But once the food arrived I was genuinely impressed. I ordered the sea bass (10/10) with a side of the Brussel sprouts (7/10 a bit mushy but great flavor), coleslaw (4/10) and one shrimp skewer. Used to frequent California Fish Grill WAY BACK in high school when I lived in SoCal and there was a spot right down from campus and they offered the $2 Taco Tuesday deals. Upon eating here again a decade later, not much has changed overall. The spaces at multiple locations have similar feels, never too many customers at any point during the day that we have visited where there were not enough seats, and the menu is largely unchanged outside of pricing (although the Taco Tuesday deals when I looked them up do not offer the whole array of fish options anymore (swai, shrimp, catfish, salmon, etc.). bummer). The plate lunches are still a great option, especially if you utilize their app to get rewards or free add ons. Catfish, swai, salmon all are great grilled or fried options and of course you need to put on that garlic butter sauce that they are known for. The cajun I have tried and also really enjoyed. In terms of sides, their rice (that's similar to a rice pilaf but not sure if it's actually cooked like that), roasted zucchini, and fries are my go-tos. read more

We love the grilled fish and the battered fish here -- always fresh and a great value. For sides, I always go with the zucchini and the tomato feta salad. I never deviate from this combo! Two weeks ago, I came in with my kids and one of them accidentally hit his face on the table, splitting his tongue open. One of the servers immediately came over to help, and it turned out she's also an EMT. She was incredibly calm and reassuring, helped me stay calm, had me sit down, and went to get ice. She then examined my child, showed me the cut on his tongue, and advised me to go to the ER. Her help was invaluable during a very stressful moment. So I just left.. pretty pissed off that they threw my food away when I went to the bathroom. I had a water bottle that they threw away too.. my drink was still halfway full. My plate was still Half full with the roasted corn, brown rice and I ordered two orders of chips that were STILL FULL I accidentally ordered two. When I came back I asked where my food was the guy said I threw it away it looked like it was done.. How is that when there was still a WHOLE coconut shrimp half of my chicken taco, half of my brown rice and roasted street corn and two little things of chips and avacado. So how did it look like I was done. My water bottle still had water in it and my watermelon mint drink was still half full. When the guy said he threw it away I asked why would you throw it away when there was still a lot of food?? Which he replied it looked finished? It looked finished with half the plate still full and a hole side of coconut shrimp. Then I let the manager know and he said he would make a whole taco. I declined because I paid over 20 something dollars and I still had a lot of food left over. Don't leave your food to go to the bathroom because it will get thrown out. Or leave some kind of note. I can't say enough how much I appreciate the food choices. Sometimes you just want a little heather food choices. This is the place! My husband loves the fish and chips. He also added garlic bread (not the healthiest and I could pass on this). I always get whatever fish is what I'm craving. After browsing around, we stumbled upon this place to try. Chips and Salsa: These were alright. The chips had a sort of seasoning to them, so they did show a different side of flavor. However, it was a bit too much for me, so it was leaning towards salty. The salsa options were just alright. Fish and Chips: This is the kids meals version, and not the normal plate. I got the fish taco combo which comes with two sides and a drink. The tacos were delicious, but the sides could have been better. The zucchini had no flavor and the fries were a bit stale. My parents enjoyed what they ordered which was the fish tacos as well, but with a side of sweet potato fries (extra fee) and side of beans. They also got the chicken taco, but the chicken was dry. Parking can be full in this plaza, but we found one pretty quickly. Just had to walk a bit. We ordered through a kiosk, but you could also place your order at the cash register. I like CFG in general, their big menu, fast prep time, choice of sides and sauces, etc, but they're inconsistent. Sometimes the fish is cooked just right, and sometimes, like today, it's really charred and inedible. I ate less than half of the salmon in the salmon/swai combo plate, it was charred so badly. And the swai was undercooked, so go figure. I only ate half because I can't stand undercooked white fish. When I get fish cooked like this, I stop going to CFG for a while, and then I forget and go back and all is well for a while until the next over-charred piece of fish. read more

POST-GAME LUNCH I have been here twice. The first time was about two months ago after my niece's softball game and before her sister's softball game. Lunch that day was short. Even though I've never eaten at California Fish Grill I wanted to keep the meal simple by ordering something familiar. I ordered catfish, which is my favorite fish to eat, with garlic butter sauce. The two side orders I got were rice and fries. I like garlic but not an abundance of it. The garlic butter sauce didn't overpower the flavor of the catfish. I noticed my dad ordered swai, which is a fish I never ate before. If did come here again I would order swai. I came here last Saturday after both of my niece's softball games. On the menu I noticed the fire-grilled special of swai and shrimp. I decided to order that special with seasoned olive oil. Since I never had swai before I am glad ordered it with olive oil to taste the fish. Whereas catfish is meaty fish the swai is flaky. Even though catfish is still my favorite fish I am glad to try a fish I never ate before. I'm glad I ordered the special because the shrimp made the dish a filling meal for lunch. I really enjoy this establishment! Food is light and refreshing (if you get grilled fish). I tried both sea bass and salmon/swai combo. Both with cajun/butter sauce. I prefer the sea bass. It's delicious and cooked perfectly the few times I had it. The sauce is really good. The salmon/swai combo was okay, I wouldn't get it again. The salmon didn't seem too fresh, a little fishy and the swai seemed quite fatty. I didn't like the texture of it. The service seems decent, although they got my order wrong. I ordered rice and got Brussel sprouts. I wasn't thrilled as I'm not a fan of Brussel sprouts but to my surprise they were pretty good with the way they were seasoned. I love this place so much! If you wanna go somewhere, you can get fresh flavorful food that you can easily modify to fit different diets this is it. You don't even have to like fish, they have several chicken dishes, such as the grilled chicken tacos and grilled chicken plate. I haven't tried the vegetarian options but I know they have a couple of those as well. My typical go to are the Cajun grilled shrimp tacos with a side of brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries. More recently I am doing a low carb diet so today I chose the grilled giant shrimp with brussels sprouts and tomato feta salad. I was too hungry to take up before picture but here is an after picture. Delicious! Also, if you would like to get it delivered to your house go through their website. I wanted a quick and light lunch so I ordered the Brussel Sprouts (balsamic glazed) & the Chimichurri Parmesan fries through DoorDash. They were delicious & still warm, even from being delivered and taking some time. Service was TERRIBLE!!!!! Do the employees know how to smile or greet customers or are they taught to walk around looking pissed off and being rude to paying customers? Literally ZERO smiles. Rice was hard and obviously undercooked. Got a petite meal and the size of the salmon was laughable. For $3.82 was the difference in price for a regular so we ended up paying the difference to get the 2 big pieces. The size of the petite salmon was like 2 inches. So tiny. We got a kids fish meal and that was double the size. Ridiculous! When we went to pay the difference for the regular size, Joseph was extremely rude and condescending.
