This was our first time here. We came in and were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. The menu isn't too large. They gave us time to look at the menu and then came back to check on us. We then placed our orders. They have a nice patio area, and a big dining area. Music isn't too loud. We got here about half an hour after they opened so it wasn't too busy. My boyfriend got enchiladas and I got the protein bowl. And about 10 minutes he got his enchiladas and that's all they were, no beans no rice just a couple enchiladas. I waited for about 15 minutes and I started to think that they forgot about me. I was getting ready to cancel my order and just get food next-door at the dumpling place. But soon after I saw her, bring my bowl to me. It was really good. I enjoyed it. Our waitress was great. Only issue is that it took a while to get my food. Free chips and salsa would have been a plus. But I know not everywhere does it. read more

Ok, so this really used to be one of my favorite spots to get tacos but now... not so much. One thing I've always disliked about this chain is that they change the menu monthly. They would make these short rib tacos and they were sooooo DELICIOUS . But I'd have to check the menu every month to confirm, whenever I remembered. Now here's the bigger part that is making me not care to come here anymore and that's the portion size. We stopped by to try and see how it compares to the Albany location. Service and Staff: - Service was a little slow as there were a few parties of 6 or so people around us Food and Drinks: - Margarita: delicious and refreshing - "Bloody Mary": this is in quotes because we ordered a Bloody Mary, which thy didn't have. They said they had something very similar that wasn't spicy. The drink wasn't similar at all and was very spicy. It would have been better for them to recommend another drink entirely instead. Five tacos and beers is fabulous! Who doesn't like tacos and beer? And they have tons of both. We've been a couple times and enjoyed every visit. You can order off the menu, where they have tons of taco combinations, including quesabirria and a host of delicious meats. They also offer a full bar with lots of tequila choices. Both times I've stuck to the beers, which the selection is vast, but I'm definitely coming back for the tequila. They also have a taco buffet night and we've enjoyed that too. The presentation of the food was appealing. I would recommend the quesabirria. The service was very good. (The staff is generally knowledgeable if you have celiac or a gluten allergy. The food and the Manager, Luis' attitude deserve a five star. However, to be honest, I wanted to take one star off as two of their servers were no show, and that made Luis the sole bartender, order taker and server for a pretty large restaurant. The amazing thing was he kept smiling and working his rear off for the two plus hours that we were there for lunch. The restaurant has extensive indoor and outdoor seating and looks nice. They must have about 30 beers on tap! Eleven of us ordered chips with guac and salsa, variety of beers and a variety of tacos. We also ordered rice and beans to share. The food was delicious and there were no leftovers! We had brought a cake to celebrate a birthday, Luis brought out the cake with lit candles! Nicely done. We've been coming to this place for a while, and it has been great every single time. Walnut Creek is known for its high prices, but this place provides a great combo of price, quality, and service. It's definitely a great value. Their guacamole, chips, and salsa are incredible. We always order tacos, and they are in the 6-to-7 dollar range. Honestly, we've tried every taco on the menu, and all of them were great. The short rib tacos, in particular, were amazing. The place is cool for an adult gathering but is also kid-friendly. The kids' quesadilla with rice and beans was reasonably priced at 8 dollars. The place offers a wide range of beers and has a great IPA selection. The Don Lito house tequila is 8 dollars and is of good quality. We will definitely be coming back for the vibe, quality, service, and deliciousness of their tacos. read more

Parking downtown can be a challenge but I parked a few blocks away in a free parking structure. I met up with a friend on a cold chilly night so we started with a tortilla chicken soup and it was a Tuesday evening so I ordered a few tacos. You get a happy hour pricing on taco Tuesday. One of the place I can't believe I haven't reviewed. We have been coming here for years. So I use to drink alot of beer but these days more tequila and red wine. That being said I usually will get a porter or stout here, why?, because they have them. So many place don't unless its the dead of winter. Today we had a shrimp taco, rock cod taco and the chicken Quesabirra. All great. The fish wasn't battered and fried so that was good. We have also had ceviche on the past and a variety of other dishes. The tequila selection has 6 of my favorites and not a single bottle of 818 in sight. 5 Tacos was our second stop during our downtown Walnut Creek taco crawl this weekend. Food wise, we found the tortillas to be handmade with exactly the consistency and taste you would want in a great taco. The balance of each bite was absolutely perfect for both the El Pastor and the Carne Asada tacos and the chips and guacamole were delicious, - although we did find the tomatoes and onion to be a tad heavy handed in the guacamole. The patio seating was comfortable and bright and the service was prompt and incredibly friendly. Of the three Mexican food spots we tried that day (Tacos, Bar Camino, and 5 Tacos) I would say 5 Tacos was overwhelmingly the clear winner. All in all, we loved our visit to 5 Tacos and would give it five stars across the board. We will absolutely be returning! read more

That said, the food didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The menu sounded promising, but the tacos felt underwhelming once they arrived--small portions, minimal toppings, and not a lot of flavor outside of the meat. We tried the pork belly, steak, and fish tacos. While the meat itself was decent across the board, all of them lacked sauce, texture, and balance--no real wow factor. The seafood ceviche was fresh but needed more citrus punch--and it only came with a few tostada chips, so we ended up eating the rest with forks. Prices are on the higher side for what you get ($35-$40 for five tacos), and we honestly left still hungry. The hyper annoying: took 5 friends here to check it out. Something like a work event , something like a group of friends . An individual from another table joined us at our table and hung out. In fact, I don't think that they even ordered a drink. I got the receipt and there was a "Large Party (20%)" charge on it for $15,30. As an owner of a company that routinely takes groups of people out, and treats employees and colleagues generously, and extends that generosity to the staff that works at those places, generally tipping well in excess of 20% - to the point of credit card fraud departments occasionally calling to ask if we meant to leave a large tip. That doesn't cut it for me. Anyway, cut this crap out. There's too many good restaurants and places around Walnut Creek and Lafayette and Danville that don't charge some crap fee of 20% - which who knows even goes to the staff. Don't get me wrong . The drinks were great - but all my colleagues could talk about was the nonsense of paying a 20% "compulsory" crap. I'm sure the place is great - but I'm uncomfortable going back. read more
