Ordered through drive-through yesterday and didn't take a look at food till we got home or we would've had them remake the onion rings. They were OVERCOOKED and HARD. First off all you can't sit inside and you won't find that out unit you park and walk up to the door, drive thru only. The food is pretty much like jail food, it was warm at best and packed with mustard ( I was starving or else it was straight trash). Ever since I seen past reviews on how this family owned business use to be a DQ I've been wanting to try their storm ice cream. Well today was a hot day and I finally went. I ordered the small Oreo storm and regular French fries. I took the risk of flipping over the ice cream and I am glad to say it did not spill out. The ice cream was the perfect consistency and the French fries were lightly salted and freshly hot. From customer service,to wait time to food quality I was not disappointed. Today my fiance & his beastie had an excellent meal here. Both raved over a bacon avocado burger. They are a little fussy about what they consume, & after meal, they continued to obsess over awesome French fries. (I'm a vegetarian...so don't qualify here. Lol). Service was friendly & exceptional. Price competitive for fast food Grade A spots, but food truly praised. These two men had a long day of HARD physical work, & little time to get something into their systems. This lunch, at this restaurant, served by these very gracious people, proved a genuine blessing! I always "suspected" friends & family may "contribute" positive reviews of products, places, etc. Please be assured, this is an absolutely truthful recount, of a surprisingly pleasant first visit. Service was great, and food made fresh to order ! Drive thru line was empty which is surprising because this place is really good. The pattys on the burger are nice, thick and charred to perfection where it's still juicy. Super small businesses!!! This place is ran by the cutest, older couple. They are very kind in their service. The burger was great! Just look at the picture, it's classic burger, double patty, green lettuce, juicy tomatoes, all great. Fries and onion rings were crunchy and fresh. I dig this place. Ice cream is as good as it was in its DQ days. Same family runs it. I had a burger there recently and it was surprisingly decent. Burger meat had a good taste. I will always support this family owned business. They were a little ways down the street when I was growing up then they moved to this new place. The food and drink and ice cream is always good. I stopped there to get something simple and didn't really want fast food but I was in a hurry so I ordered the turkey sandwich and me and my fiancé split it. It was so delicious! I bought one for my mom and she thought the same. You have to try it and my fiancé is picky and he really likes it and the burgers and my son does too. For those of you who might not know, California Grill n' Chill used to be the Highland Dairy Queen. That's right, folks. All that time, money and hype that went into moving the DQ from its former locale down the street to here...and it's no longer a Dairy Queen. Why.. you may ask? Simply put.. Dairy Queen screwed over the hard working Korean family that's owned Highland's DQ Franchise for over three DECADES! I found out about this by accident. I went in to order a few Dilly Bars and was met at the door by one of the owners saying they are closed..are no longer a DQ... but would be opening again in a few weeks. I was flabbergasted! Then I read our local Highland newspaper and was outraged. Seems that DQ had leaned on the owners to move and modernize their location and to put in a drive thru. So then, after going to the time and expense of doing so, and after being hailed by DQ Corporate at their new "Flagship Shop" - they go and up their franchise fees and percentage cut of their sales to the point that they couldn't stay in business as a DQ any longer. Personally I think DQ should be ashamed of themselves. This family had been a loyal franchise holder for 32 years. As a testament to their commitment to Highland, however, they did indeed reopen as California Grill n' Chill. And you know what? Their menu and food are pretty darn good! And pretty darn close to their original DQ menu as well. Gone are the Blizzards... but in are the "Storms" (*wink wink*)! You get the drift. If you like Dairy Queen (sans its new ties to Orange Julius), you'll really like this place. The dairy treats are delicious, the food from the brazier is yummy (I missed my flamethrower burgers!!), and the service is not bad. My minor complaint is that the drive-thru is kinda hard to navigate through. I'd normally give them three to three-and-a-half stars. But they get the fourth star from their commitment to the area and their staying power alone! read more

So this family owned business used to be a DQ and they've been around Highland for a long time. Was in the the area and my wife and I decided to stop by for lunch. Didn't expect much. Ordered a couple cheeseburger combos and to our delight were pretty good. Meat tasted good and veggies were fresh. Fries I'd compare to McDs. Haven't had the deserts since they were DQ but they're pretty much clones from DQ. All in all a good experience with good food owned by a nice family that's been serving in town for many many years. 4 stars as the price was just a tad too high. read more

Been going to see the Shin family since they ran the Dairy Queen up the street. The food is of the general burger & fry variety you'd get from a Burger King, but this place is all about great dessert.
