Fail! I have wanted to try Lapperts ice cream for a long time. My lady and I visit State Street in Redlands often to walk, eat, and visit the shops. It was a very hot Saturday and some ice cream sounded good. The hours posted state they open at 11am. It was 11:30 and the doors were locked, no employees in sight. Odd, as the lights were on, and the sidewalk signs were out. At least 7 other patrons also tried to enter and all of us were frustrated. With the insulting prices they charge, it might be best to be open and serve customers. After reading a lot of negative reviews it looks like a return visit will not happen. The menu choices are amazing; there is something for everyone. Whether you prefer simple ice cream in a cup, in a cone, fruit bowl, Dole Whip, milkshakes or smoothies. They got it all. My dad found out they have Dole Whip so we drove 20 minutes out of the way to try! He and my brother were very happy with it, saying it tasted exactly like the ones in Hawaii! (Though the color looks much paler haha) I had a regular scoop (two flavors) of ice cream: kona mocha chip and green tea! We also bought a pint of pineapple Dole Whip to take home :) They allow you to try samples! And the staff were very friendly! We asked to keep our pint in the freezer while we dine-in, then retrieve it later right before we leave; they accommodated us perfectly! We even joked about the Coachella Valley dates that they sell, with the employee saying the dates saw Lady Gaga(?) and I said they even saw BigBang BAHAHA Side note, they were verrrry slow with service. We had been maybe the third party in line for about 10-15 minutes with the line not even moving for a while (maybe the customers ahead of us were ordering something complicated or indecisive). After a wonderful Yelp event experience at Sosogu Ramen in Downtown Redlands, I wanted something delightful and sweet. Lappert's Super Premium Ice Cream came to mind. Here I was to experience it once more. Yes, I've been here in the past. Parking was easy right in front of the shop. It was about 20 minutes until closing time. There was still a line, but not too long so it went swiftly. Atmosphere was clean and bright. Ambiance has a Hawaiian flare to it. If I didn't know better, I would have thought I was in Hawaii. Limited outside seating and some inside seating. There's a cool cabana hut-like section you may sit at. One all gender restroom available for use. Staff was super fantastic and friendly. They serve the ice cream in quite a variety... fruit bowls, mangonada, vegan/dairy free ice cream, soft serve, floats, shakes, etc. You may even take home pre-packaged pints to-go. Cute shirts for sale, too. As for here, free samples available on any flavors. You may try them all (that's what they say). Sweet! Of course I didn't try all of them, but maybe one day I will. WOW, so many unique and interesting combination of flavors. I sampled 5 flavors as shown below. *Navels & Ganache - Bright navel orange ice cream mixed with rich, dark chocolate ganache chunks *Ube Macapuno - Philippine purple ube root mixed with macapuno (coconut) puree *Date Casablanca - Medajool date ice cream with a date/caramel swirl *Honeysuckle Rose - Honey sweetened vanilla ice cream with rose petal extract *Kauai Pie - Kona coffee ice cream, Hawaiian macadamia nuts, shredded and lightly toasted coconut, and rich dark chocolate fudge I ended up getting one regular cup with 2 flavors for $6.50... very reasonable price! My two picks were Ube Mascapuno and Kauai Pie. Good size scoops. Very rich and smooth texture. Ube was spectacular! YUMMY!! Kauai was good, but unfornately, it didn't pair too well with Ube IMHO. I won't do that again. I will, however, return and try their other fun and tasty flavors. I'll be back and so should you if you've been here before. The line was long but you can sample all their ice cream which is what takes the longest. I didn't need to sample as I got the Dubai Chocolate Sundae. I love all things Dubai Chocolate. This one fell short for me. Something about it didn't work. Maybe it was the chunk of pistachios? The ice cream itself was good. The waffle coated in Chocolate, pistachios and kadayif were amazing. We had such a wonderful experience at Lappert's Ice Cream! One of the owners personally came up to us and offered a free halo-halo because they're currently trialing the recipe and launching it soon. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture! He even made a second one just in case the first had "too much ube"--but honestly, as a Filipina, I have to say there's no such thing as too much ube. The first halo-halo was absolutely perfect! Even though he generously offered the second one, we had to politely decline because we were already so full from our own ice cream plus the free halo-halo. Extremely rude customer service. Tried four different flavors for four different people. One in our group tried the navel and ganache flavor and said it was absolutely horrible. We thought maybe they were overreacting so let our toddler try it and even they didn't like it. Even tried giving some of the orange flavor to our dog who didn't even want to eat it. So ok no biggie went back in to let them know this flavor sucks and was basically told 'oh too bad you should've sampled it before buying it'. Seriously? You're charging almost $6 with tax for a mini scoop and you can't even make it right if someone who didn't enter the store but thought the flavor was intriguing a chance to make things right and at least offer another flavor?
