We left after paying and will not return. Scam?

My 4-year-old daughter and I sat down briefly at one of the outdoor tables and were asked to leave because we were not customers. For context, it was a Wednesday around 7 PM, approximately 97 degrees outside, and the business was nearly empty. There were multiple open tables both inside and outside, so we were certainly not preventing a paying customer from having a seat. Again, I understand the policy. What I don't understand is the lack of discretion or basic hospitality in enforcing it under these circumstances--particularly toward a parent with a small child in extreme heat. We weren't a large group taking over the patio, creating a disturbance, or occupying the last available table. Sometimes good customer service is knowing when a rule needs to be enforced and when a little kindness costs absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, this experience ensured that while we weren't customers tonight, we won't be customers in the future either.
