I was in a desperate search for egg salad and they actually had it so I rushed over. The young girl that answered the phone said they are in the main entrance of St. Bernardines. Not true. They are on the inside of the OUTPATIENT center that sits on highland. I even asked if they were next to the emergency room and she said yea. So I called them and the woman was not understanding that I was just asking what building they are inside of. English is not her first language and it was a struggle to communicate. Rewind though, when I called about the egg salad, the young girl told me 5in by 2in container of egg salad was $6. So I get there and it is just the Hispanic woman there. She wasn't selling it by the container, she was selling it by the scoop. She showed me an ice cream scoop and said each scoop is $3. I was disappointed that thats not what the girl on the phone said. So then I tell her 2 scoops and she came back about 5 min later with a full container. I decided to ask for a 2nd one with 2 scoops also. She literally made the egg salad in front of me from scratch. She cracked and peeled the eggs and everything so this is 100% fresh. Then I decided I might want to make it in a sandwich so I ordered a croissant on the side. I didn't see any other bread options besides bagels. So my total was $16 and some change. Each 2 scoop container was $6 then I guess taxes and the croissant was another $4 something. I am a little confused that I was charged tax for cold items but maybe that doesn't work everywhere. Maybe it's because she prepared it. I'm not sure. Also, an egg salad sandwich on a croissant is $9 and I think by buying the scoops separate it gave me extra egg salad as opposed to if it was put inside the croissant. So the lady was nice and she worked quickly but it was hard to communicate that I even wanted egg salad. She kept repeating after me but saying macaroni salad. Besides that, the place looked overall clean but the walls had black dirt marks from years of not being cleaned. I took pictures of it. They really should cover it with new paint. It made me feel like if they don't care to cover up dirt or clean it, maybe the food is treated the same. The lady did use gloves as appropriate and washed her hands in between touching food and other things so I was ok with buying from her. The egg salad tastes like normal bland egg salad. It's definitely missing something but it tastes like when me or my mom make it but a bit more bland. It might need some mustard and salt. If I was near there, I'd choose to eat at this place over the hospital cafeteria. read more

On an extremely hot day waiting for a family member who is having surgery, I enter the café to buy a bottle of water. Their choices of drinks are extremely limited, but I figured a two dollar bottle of water would be great. I had brought several snacks and drinks of my own, but since I was in the hospital for nearly 8 hours, I ran out. Unfortunately they did not have change for cash. I couldn't make the purchase unless I was using a card, this should be communicated at the entrance. I used cash earlier in the day but the cashier now working denied accepting anything other than a card or exact change. Maira: you must have me confused with another customer. I was not offered any alternative payment options other than a card. I also made no rude comment to the cashier instead I took to Yelp so other customers could be prepared. I do appreciate that you provide ice water upon request. That is fantastic and if I'm ever there again I will make sure to take you up on that offer. I am sorry for any confusion and do not appreciate being called out for poor behavior when it was not mine to begin with. As a wise woman once said, do better. read more

I stopped here after a doc appointment, and it was so good! Such a little cute spot. The croissant was so soft and buttery with the chicken salad it was a great combination. I'm not crazy about mac salad but this one was yummy. The cappuccino royal I recommend. The lady up front was super friendly. read more
