Greg was phenomenal to work with. We recently purchased a home with a pool that wasn't holding water and outdated pool equipment. This is the first time we've owned a home with a pool so we were coming in as complete novices. Greg and I spent about 20 minutes on the phone as our first meeting and he explained the steps he would be taking to understand where a leak would be coming from and what it would probably take to repair. When he showed up he quickly identified the compromised areas and walked me through what he'd like to do to as permanent repairs. We also reviewed all of the pool equipment and he offered his suggestions to either replace or upgrade. He was thorough, honest and was very knowledgeable. We have agreed to initially fix the compromised areas and stop the water loss. After we looked at his high-quality work we had no doubt we should move forward with him and replace most of the pool equipment. He was upfront with his quotes and offered us different options if we wanted to do it in phases. We decided to pull the trigger and replace almost everything including some of the plumbing. There were a couple small surprises when he started taking things apart but again, was upfront and honest about what he'd like to do to make it all work right. It's been about a week now and we could not be more happy with our experience with Greg. He set us up with wireless controls for our pool, pump, lights, and spa. We have been very impressed by California Pool Care. In the summer, we were noticing that it was becoming a bit too time-consuming to manually vacuum the pool every day. We decided to get a Polaris pool cleaner installed, but since we were missing a "side port" for our pool, we needed to change out an old saltwater port to make it work. We contacted SEVERAL pool companies (at least 15, no joke!). A few were not very good at contacting us back--we'd call or email and never hear back. Some would schedule a time to give us a quote and then never show up. That was totally unprofessional. If a potential customer is waiting at home for you, and you don't show up at a time that you agreed upon---this reflects poorly on a business. We realized there was a HUGE difference in quality of pool companies. After watching the TV show "Catch a Contractor" (with Adam Carolla), we knew we had to find a contractor/company that was licensed, bonded and insured. Of the licensed pool companies, California Pool Care was the clear front-runner. Their prices were fair (and comparable to other companies we talked to). Greg was quick to respond to our emails, showed up at the date/time that we agreed on, and now we have a fabulous Polaris pool cleaner and more free time (due to not having to manually vacuum the pool!) Everything about this company is professional, even down to the estimate and bill that were sent to us. Other companies sent us a simple bill but California Pool Care's method of billing seemed to stand out among the others. I think it might be the kind of software they use to make their bills look so colorful, concise and PROFESSIONAL (My go-to word for this company). I hired CPC for full service five months ago and had to call Greg more than once because skimmer baskets and the trap basket were not being emptied. Once, I had to have Greg come out to net a large amount out debris that been ignored by the technician. When this occurred, I told Greg that I wasn't happy paying $135 a month for sub-standard service. Things got better until I received a bill for $194. I called Greg and he said he had replaced the back-up valve on my pool sweep. He did this w/o consulting me and did not leave the part behind. Prior to Greg starting service, I had bought a new back up valve, pool sweep screen and pump filters. I also had the pool sweep serviced. Greg seems to think he can replace equipment w/o consulting the homeowner and w/o leaving old parts behind. I immediately called another pool service and they came out for a bid. Once there, he inspected my equipment and we discovered the pool sweep had been operated w/o the pool sweep screen in place. I found the screen in the bushes next to where the hose connects to the wall. It looked like it had been stepped on and crushed. I assume this was an accident and that the technician forgot to replace the part. The Polaris Sweep was still not working properly so I took it to Leslie's and they found that the jets were plugged. I bought a new screen and the pool sweep now works properly. I provided the work order to Greg but refused to accept that his company in any way was at fault. I ended up hiring the new company and presently I am getting full service for $25 a month less. read more

Bought a short sale home and needed a pool guy to clean up the brown algae filled mess of a pool that was left behind from having no service for almost a year. I called a whole bunch of places and Greg was the first and only one to actually answer the phone. I wasn't given a voicemail like the others. Since he answered the phone right away we were able to set up a same day consultation. It was amazing how fast he got our pool back to normal. He checked out all of our equipment and took the time to explain everything to me. Now that he's been servicing our pool for a few months I can honestly say he does a great job. He is professional, knowledgeable and extremely nice. Our pool looks great. On top of all this he sends the monthly invoice through email. That might not be a big deal to most people but I'm like Kip, Napoleon Dynamite's older brother, I love technology! So any small company that can communicate with me through email deserves my highest ranking. Not to mention it saves paper too. Pros: Professional, great prices, on time, tech savvy and does a great job. Cons: I wish he was a hot chick so I could have a hot chick stop by and clean my pool instead of a dude, but he does a good job so I'll take it. Greg was awesome! He came to my house a few hours after I called, provided a prompt bid, then installed the equipment the next business day. Good price and prompt professional work. I needed a new pump and pool cleaner. I called a nationwide chain store as well as another installer. The nationwide chain store sent a rep out who inspected the equipment for a bid but never got back to me. The other pool equipment installer came out and bid on the job- charging me $85 for an "inspection" prior to his bid. When I tried to hire him however he was always "CRAZY busy" and failed to keep appointments. What a scam. When we told Greg from California Pool Care the story he assured us that if hired he would do the job promptly- and he was true to his word!! Greg was very responsive in coming out to diagnose why our pool filtration wasn't working properly. He did some troubleshooting, explaining what he was doing and why. Turned out we had some suction leaks, which was why the pump wasn't priming. Greg went above and beyond in checking the lines and repairing leaks as he found them. One of the best things I've ever done was firing this company. Greg was a good pool guy until he started to send out guys to work on my pool that are lazy. I had full service for about 6 yrs and would tell greg his guys aren't doing there job. Never brush the pool, they would only put in clarifying cems and nothing else. He would tell me how my pool is a pain in the a$$. I had to ask his guy 4 times to clean under a table that is part of my pool and he wouldn't. Now that i take care of my own pool i can really see that these guys just don't CARE about there job and the people they work for. Please don't waste your money. read more

I have used California Pool Care to service my pool for over five years. They are an excellent company to deal with, and they have helped me with many pool issues that have come up in that time. Greg is a delight to work with. He rapidly responds to text messages and phone calls, and he comes out quickly to address any unexpected pool issues. I recently had my pool filter replaced and used a different pool service company through my home warranty. The pump had to be off for a while, and I missed my regular chemical day. The day that the pump could be turned on, Greg had someone make a special trip out to get the chemicals in the pool. He really cares about keeping your pool in good shape! Additionally, this second pool company installed the thermostat in the wrong place after installing the filter, and the heater was not working properly. That pool company could not figure out how to fix the problem. Greg came out within 24 hours of me notifying him of the problem and had the issue diagnosed and fixed within a couple hours. A couple years ago, my pump was not working well. Greg figured out that the lid was cracked and got me a new lid for no charge under warranty. I have been battling the pool care bug for the past 6 years and I never really seemed to get the hang of it. I got tired of spending money on supplies that did not work. So, in March, I gave Greg a call to see if he could really get our pool from "green to clean". By gosh he did. The only chemicals that he used were the standard few gallons of Chlorine and some very hard work over a two day span. After about 3 days I took a look at the pool and couldnt believe it. I dont think it had ever been that clear. It was like a new pool had been born in our backyard. So, we initiated monthly service with greg and have been extemely happy since.
