California Pools created our dream backyard oasis. We loved our designer Jacob. He was very knowledgeable and was able to sketch out all our ideal pool/ yard features. He really took the time to listen about what we wanted and put it all together. We have been in a new build with nothing but dirt in our backyard besides the clutter of kids toys and random tools for the last 5 years. We spoke with 4-5 pool companies about the project but California Pools shined through. We went with California Pools because of the design, the value for what we were paying, warranties with the purchase and we loved the app they use to communicate with through the process. Jacob stayed with us the entire project helping with any plan adjustments or questions. We had some rocky issues at first with our project site manager Dillion's communication but our scheduler Cierra really picked up the slack and got things all better. Cierra was amazing at keeping us sane through the construction process. It's well known major construction on your home is stressful but I believe with her help it made it much better. Dillon had left the company and we were assigned Stephan Dreher. He came and assessed our project as it was almost complete and picked up fine details and got us to the finish line. Just like you, we were thinking to ourselves, "who are we going to TRUST to completely clear out an existing backyard to the earth and build a paradise oasis that only we can dream and vision in our minds?" We called Shasta Pools, Presidential Pools & Spas, and California Pools & Landscape to schedule an onsite consultation. Shasta Pools never contacted us, but we did get a call to schedule an onsite appointment with both Presidential Pools and California Pools for Friday, June 30, 2023. On the same day, I met with Karin Tierney (Backyard Design Specialist) from Presidential Pools and Christian Pierre (Designer) from California Pools. After the initial visit (June 30th), I never heard back from Karin Tierney of Presidential Pools, not one follow up or anything. Christian from California Pools immediately emailed me two days later with images for ideas and started creating our paradise oasis. Christian Pierre was professional, engaged, listened to our stories and dreams, asked us open-ended questions and his communication was excellent. Within a week, Christian presented us a video of the first pool designed. We made some minor changes and then he presented us the final video that turned our vision into a digital paradise oasis. I couldn't believe it, the video was literally what we visioned and dreamed, but the cost was above what we expected. We reminded ourselves, "You only live once." If this home is going to be our last, we don't want any regrets or future projects later, lets do this project right one last time. We said, "Let's Go!" We confirmed the project with California Pools and shortly after, we were introduced to Stephen Dreher (Lead Construction Manager). Stephen was a gentleman, very easy to talk to, a great listener, and a professional who follows through with action. Demolition started February 2024. Throughout the 2024 year, various construction teams came in to do their part of the project. Stephen kept in touch with me weekly with updates and seeking any questions from me. He was ALWAYS available via text, phone calls and in person. We made some changes during the project and Stephen was on top of processing Change Orders and updating the construction teams. Neighborhoods are made up of many types of people, and even with HOA approvals and city permits, you will find out which neighbors enjoy complaining and making it known that they are not happy people. No worries though, with Stephen's professional confidence and patience, he presented himself to these neighbors to answer any questions or address their concerns. Once he made himself available to these party poopers, the complaints lessened. After 12 months of construction, the pool project came to an end February 2025. I have to admit that making the decision to have California Pools & Landscape take on this project was one of the best decisions we ever made. The entire team that makes California Pools operate are ALL professionals and experts at what they do. The third party construction teams that work with California Pools were all professionals, execute precision work, and clean up their work when done. Stephen Dreher was in communication with all third party teams. Having the pool of our dreams seen on a video and built in our very own backyard is a dream come true. California Pools has converted our beautiful backyard (Casita Talasera) to "The Happiest Place On Earth." In an industry that's rife with companies that lack integrity, reliability, and the resources to deliver on time (or at all in some cases), California Pools and Landscaping is the gold standard for making things happen. My hat's off to their designer Cory Blackwell, superintendent Kevin Everhart, and Construction Coordinator Leann Madar in taking our vision of a backyard oasis and making it a reality that exceeded our expectations. From 2D drawings to 3D model to demolition to underground rough-in to the finished product, it was quite the accelerated journey to witness a concept materialize. There were a couple of code challenges that popped up, but CPL was able to intercept and correct the issues to stay on schedule and avoid any red tags by Developmental Services. I've been in construction for 40 years and counting, and I have yet to see a project go without a snag, but in my opinion, working with CPL is the best choice in ensuring the job is done as seamlessly as possible. Great management team that raised the bar for customer service--they were extremely professional and responsive. When they schedule work to get done, it gets done...and we're talking high speed, low drag, folks. The workmanship from the travertine pavers to the pebble finish of the pool was flawless and beautiful, and the scope of work was completed impressively fast. As I first mentioned, there are a lot of companies out there trying to sell their ability to do the work you want, but do your research, do a deep dive on reviews, and check the BBB if there are any complaints filed against them. There are too many flakes and hacks in the valley that claim to be pool contractors, so do yourself and your dream project a favor and do your homework. In my humble opinion, California Pools and Landscaping stands head-and-shoulders above the rabble. They're not cheap, but A++ results speaks for itself. I wanted to be able to give a good review. We started with our designer in Jan 2025 from Ohio. We were building a house in AZ and knew we needed both our front yard and backyard landscaping done and we wanted a pool and spa. Our designer was phenominal and I would give him 5 stars all day long!! I had contacted several pool builders and ultimately went with California because of our designer and how much he listened to what we wanted and had great recommendations since we were not as familiar with the climate and differences between the midwest and southwest living! We moved in the beginning of May. The day came to meet our project manager, Dylan. He was extremely unprofessional, unqualified for the job and a poor communicator. He asked what will it take to get 5 stars at the end, my only comment to him was I expected communication and for the project to stay on schedule. Well, neither of those things happened. What he said would be a 12 week job took 20 weeks. I guess I should be glad ours was completed in such a "quick" timeframe as Dylan would tell me, because another member of our community started at the same time and still has a shotcrete hole in her backyard. It was excuse after excuse, if i wasn't texting on monday or tuesday to find out what was scheduled for the week i'm not certain we'd even be done. The fence took 2 weeks to have put back up. Every morning for 20 weeks, i woke up wondering if there were a bunch of men in my backyard at 6am. I understand the need to start early because of the heat, that wasn't the problem, but dragging the project out caused our schedules to be out of whack for far too long. When the shotcrete guys were there I was so excited! Then they discovered the spa was off by 2" and they couldn't do the work. Had a pre-wire been done (Cal Pools doesn't want to pay for it) they would have discovered the error before the concrete truck was there! Cal Pools had to eat that cost too. Then we had to have plumbers and steel guys back out to adjust the spa. The pavilion was delayed because the City of Surprise kept sending back their permit request because they couldn't submit it properly, then they couldn't send it electronically and waited days to figure it out. Then the inspection on the pavilion indicated the post needed grounded, so more delays waiting for electricians to come out again. It's the most unorganized company we've worked with so far in the Valley. We had a change order that ended up with a less than $500 balance and they refused to move forward with shotcrete until we paid it. I asked to square up at the end because I knew there would be additional change orders. Guess what we had 2 more change orders. Then when the project was done I received a check for $800 that had been over paid. These are terrible business practices. We live in a new build community and a lot of folks are asking who they should use. I can no longer recommend California Pools because of the lack of organization of the project and lack of concern from their management. I am pleased with how my back yard turned out, our designer nailed our vision perfectly. We've had to have service out a few times already and often they leave the pool in a state that we don't know how to get it back to normal and have to call for help. The "orientation" we received at 5:30pm at night in the dark was pathetic, they did end up sending out their lead tech to review things with us again and we've made sure we understand how everything works because we want to minimize the number of times we have to call them back out and deal with whatever mess is left to clean up after their techs are here. What really bothers me is that at no time did anyone above Dylan, our project manager, contact us. We had no one to voice our concerns to. Our designers manager did call us but his voicemail basically said he had nothing to do with the project management piece. read more

Great customer service and amazing work on finding and resolving the irrigation issue. Vianna was helpful in sending a technician out as soon as possible to inspect the problem. Daniel Aguirre was extremely friendly and great at finding and explaining the issue with the irrigation control valves. He went out of his way to find parts to fix the problem right away without having to schedule a new appointment. He also helped in getting the irrigation system on the right settings and checked the entire irrigation system around the house. He made our holidays a lot brighter. read more

We have had the pleasure of working with Doug, Jordan and Sarah on building our pool and landscaping our yard. The communication from the very start was phenomenal. We did have a couple hiccups, but with those hiccups Jordan and Sarah went above and beyond to get over those hiccups and delivered way more than we expected. They were a GREAT team to work with. Our dogs all approved of Jordan, as he made sure they were able to swim as soon as possible. We looked at a couple pool places and no one made us feel as confident or comfortable as California Pools. 1If I could leave a negative star review, I would. I cannot state how much I regretted hiring California Pools to build our swimming pool. We signed contract in September 2021, and finally filled our pool in April 2023, a whopping 557 days later. We had a rectangular lap pool and a rectangular hot tube, nothing fancy. When we signed our contract in 9/21, we were told by our designer David L that we would be swimming by the next summer. Absolutely the biggest lie in the whole process. Since the process has begun, our construction manager changed 3 times and our original designer quit 2/3 of the way in. Our construction manager, Tim S, that we were stuck with, was the most unprofessional and lazy CM I have dealt with in my life. He rarely showed up on site to monitor the progress and make sure the work is completed correctly. Instead, he would just remotely sign off on tasks being done when the workers / sub said they have completed the work. When I point out the deficiencies to him, he would send an angry message back berating me for questioning his professional abilities. I mean if you didn't show up on site and needed me to point out the deficiencies to you, how professional can you really be? He missed more than one of our scheduled on site meetings during the construction process as well. I have to constantly be on top with the company to see where the trades are at. They would promise the crew would show up on a certain date, but then they will show up a couple days later or not at all. It seems like Tim never communicate with the workers / sub about what needs to be done. Just demolition itself alone took 3 separate tries to complete the process. It is very difficult to plan our lives around the construction. The workers would come and go as they please and would startle my family. The contract you signed gave them blanket access to your yard 6 days a week from 8-6 pm according to Tim S. During construction, our backyard became a hazard to our young child because of the open pit and exposed steel beams that was laying bare for a period of 5 months. The crew destroyed our side gate and we were forced to replace it mid-construction, and they damaged it again, requiring it to be repaired. They refused to pay for the damaged gate but did reimburse the $75 dollars to repair our brand new gate. Part of our front yard, which was used for construction access was completely destroyed requiring a full replacement. They left the kiddy pool that they used to store the Shotcrete in our front yard for almost 2 months and required multiple portal message to get it removed. The workers were also sloppy leaving cigarette butts in our yard and along the side walk. They left their unfinished lunches in the trash pile in our backyard, which attracted a flock of crows to our yard. When we asked them to come clean up the mess, the construction coordinator, Nadine, had the nerve to tell us that we are allowed a fixed number of trash clean up and they might not have the budget (!?) to clean it up. I have to summon Tim S to assess how bad our side yard looked before he authorized a clean up. They can never give me a straight answer about the delays (for example we waited for 6 months for Shotcrete due to material shortage, and we waited for 2.5 months for the tile crew to make their way back to complete a small section of tile, so that held up our ability to get Pebbletec). In the end, the depth of our Baja shelf was incorrect (by a margin wider than what their contract would allow and prohibited our puppies from getting into the shelf), and there was inadequate lighting in the pool because the original designer decided to remove some of the lights from his design. The solution offered by Cal Pool was to dig everything up and rebuild the pool. Obviously we said no thanks. They offered some low ball compensation for our "inconvenience". When we countered with what we considered fair, we had another one of those famous angry email from Tim S asking us what do we mean by our demands. In the end, we need to go above his head to the CEO Jeremy Smith and the head of construction Scott N to get this resolved. Even after all the this, they still managed to mess up EVERY single item that they agreed to. So, after all the money that we spent with them, we are still left dissatisfied and disappointed with the product that we received. But, they don't seem to care. The whole company from top to bottom are checked out and don't seem to care about their reputation. Don't waste your time with Cal Pool. It will take your joy out of your pool for you. read more

Stay away! This company has completely fallen off a cliff. I left a positive review when the pool was first completed, but I now regret it. We chose California Pools because they built pools for our last two homes, so this is the third pool we've done with them over the years. Unfortunately, Cal has become overpriced, disorganized, and seems to hire the cheapest trades for their work. This project was a constant frustration. I had to regularly communicate with management about various issues and missteps throughout the process. The finish work was sloppy. I paid over $20 per square foot for porcelain tile, and it has been nothing but trouble--moving tiles, hollow sounds, and grout that keeps pulling back. Our last superintendent was let go, and he even told me that the company is in disarray and no longer the reputable firm it once was. We've had an ongoing battle with warranty work. They've been out here half a dozen times to fix the porcelain, yet the issues persist to this day. Their manager, Mark, is nothing more than a yes-man. He sounds like a robot and refuses to stand behind the product or workmanship. On top of that, the pebble finish is failing in one area of the pool, and now they're trying to avoid honoring the warranty. They're claiming it's due to incorrect water levels, which is hard to believe. We always drain our pool in October and refill it with fresh water and chemicals, so this explanation doesn't hold water--pun intended. In short, stay away from them. They are overpriced and overrated. Their support staff is incompetent. I've stopped recommending this company and completely regret the 5-star review I once gave them. read more

I usually try to lean on the side of optimism, but I think its time to vocalize my discontent. If my project ever completes, I'll report back. Lets start with the good: When things are flowing, its GREAT. Things generally look fantastic. Now onto the 2 stars: I have a relatively small backyard and had a BASIC design AKA no pool, no pumps, no complicated electrical or construction. I asked for rocks, some plants, travertine, and a pergola and my project is ~40K. My wife and I signed in June 2022, we had were quoted reasonable time frames like Thanksgiving 2022 or earlier. Makes sense - its pretty straight forward. I am now writing this in April 2023 and we are still delayed. Today was supposed to be basically the last day and as you can see from the image, some stuff looks funky. I noticed this for a few months, and as a person that used to work in construction - thats how it goes sometimes but it could just be part of the process. I'm letting the pros do their job - I'll just keep quiet, right? Well, an electrician comes by to "finish" and says this is wrong and he cannot do the work. How can we get this far and this oversight has been happening for 5+ months? Like I said, mine is an easy job at $40k. My wife and I are generally patient, but this is ridiculous. California Pools originally constructed our pool back in 2020 and we recently had a problem with the pool light coming loose and floating. We did not hesitate to call them, even if it was out of warranty, because they are great to deal with. Initially, they sent out a service tech who reattached the light. Within an hour, it became dislodged and floating and was bad because it had water in it. Kaitlyn G, the service rep who I dealt with followed up about the fix and I explained what happened. She was fantastic and offered to remedy the situation by providing a good will gesture of a new pool light. The only thing we were responsible for was the install. I set an appointment and the tech Alan showed up on time and was very efficient in getting the new light installed in no time. We had a great experience and it was completed sooner than anticipated! Our super Adam was extremely responsive and diligent. Between him and Vina someone was always available to respond to a message in the portal or phone call. We got a few bids from other competitors and California pools was by far the most reasonable we received. We felt like the quality and products used were better than other quotes we received for cheaper materials. It was incredibly easy to make changes, talk through items of discussion, and bring up any concerns. In September 2022 (during the End of Summer Sale) I was referred to California Pools by a good friend and neighbor who is building a decently priced backyard with California Pools. I stopped in with my friend and Cal Pools client for a brief intro and consult. I was paired with Dean. He was not really helpful at all. Wouldn't even give me a rough mock-up during the consult (even though I emailed him my plot map in the office and discussed what I wanted in session). As soon as I mentioned we would be a financing customer....that is when he "turned off". I saw him switch his personality as if my project no longer mattered to him. I wasn't a $200K backyard in cash. Working in construction myself, I'm aware of how much response times matter, and also following up on QUALIFIED leads to earning business. It's obvious that California Pools didn't want my business. I reached back out to Dean via email and via text with ZERO response (proof attached) (yes, I called him Doug)... Listen, I get it. As luck would have it, We've found our pool contractor. Word to the wise, please do your research. There are great warranties, great contractors, great designs, and sure, we have lots of supply chain and labor delays expected, but I truly feel like the follow-up was terrible, I was treated like my backyard and my hard-earned money didn't matter. One of our previous homes had a pool built by California Pools, and it looked fantastic for its age. Naturally California Pools was the first company we reached out to. I will say the staff are really fast to reach out to you to schedule an appointment. Kellie did some of the preliminary questions with me, for what we were looking for in a pool build. I was then set up with Joshua who was able to get some sketches together of pool proposals. Most of the work with Joshua was done over the phone and e-mail and a quick in person visit to the property. Unfortunately due to COVID any package for our property was very high in price, higher than we had expected and higher than other quotes we had received. There was very little wiggle room on the quote with the prices, and even the promotions compared to other companies weren't as good (worked out to 2% of the price). I was told by Joshua to expect to pay 10-20% of your current property price for a pool, which I think is a little high if you only want something small and casual (not to mention I anticipate property prices falling quickly in the near future). While my experience wasn't terrible, there was nothing truly stand out either. I'd still recommend getting a quote from California Pools, but also cross reference with another company as well. I imagine promotions also depend on what you are looking for in a pool at that point in time, but for me wasn't necessarily a motivator to move forward right away. read more

We struggled with Cal Pools getting our pool and landscaping completed. However, the warranty and follow up team post construction, specifically, Jeremiah, has been very helpful and responsive in a timely fashion when we've had issues or concerns. Even items that were out of warranty expiration were serviced and corrected. We appreciated Jeremiah's help and stick-to-itiveness to our project post construction. Thanks again Jeremiah. read more

California Pools was phenomenal to work with! From our designer Brian Magrath who listened to us and helped us stay within our budget, to Myra Olson and Vina Ortega who coordinated the project and kept us informed, to Matt White who was our construction manager and would stop in multiple times to check on the progress and do quality control. Our project included the pool, turf, extending the patio to the full length of the house and granite stone. Communication is KEY for us; they always promptly returned calls/texts and answered any and all questions that we had with patience. From breaking ground to our pool orientation was less than 3 months! I will recommend them to anyone who is thinking of putting a pool in, and if needed, will definitely use them again!!! read more

Our family could not speak more highly of our experience with California Pools, who built our pool in fall of 2023. A pool was a significant investment for our family, and selecting the right company to make this investment with was very important to us. We got quotes from many companies and put a lot of research into our decision. Now that our pool is done, we feel hands down like we could not possibly have had a better experience than we did with California. Each step of the way, we were assigned thoughtful employees who always made us feel heard. As first time pool builders we had a lot of questions through every stage and not a single person ever made us feel like a bother. Our sales and design person Dave provided information, first hand experience, ideas and patience as we moved through the contract and design processes. Every crew that came to our house treated it with respect and we were very impressed with all of their craftsmanship. Marissa made scheduling a breeze and was so communicative about each step of the pool building process that would be happening. Last but not least, we couldn't speak more highly of our superintendent Nathan. He was incredibly hands on, professional and communicative. The number of times he checked on our job site personally and talked with us about next steps, answered questions, etc. went above and beyond what we would have expected and eased the entire process for us. I wanted to post an update to my previous review now that our project is close to completion. As we had hoped, the end result is stunning, and has made the process worth it. Please see the attached photos. Since my initial post, we expressed our concerns and frustrations to California Pools, and they responded by assigning a team to ensure that they delivered on our vision of the backyard. Not everything was perfect--construction never is--but we received timely communications and resolutions. Above all else, California Pools was focused on the quality and longevity of the end product, even if items had to be redone. A big thanks to Jeremiah, Marissa, and Scott N. (and others along the way) for their commitment and professionalism with tough circumstances. If I take an honest look at the last several years, I would say that it was a complex project starting in a complex time (COVID). Labor and supply shortages brought challenges, and neither party expected the timeline to stretch as long as it did. In the end, California Pools righted the ship and delivered. read more

What really makes California Pools and landscaping, shine is there Warranty Service You won't find this with any other company This week I had to call for service and I spoke with Danni P who was truly the epitome of customer, service, polite, professional, and friendly. She said they were extremely busy and wouldn't be able to get somebody out for a couple weeks but then she called me back and said she had a service technician in the area and he would come by. GREAT I met with Trevor D and he was nothing but awesome. friendly, polite and extremely knowledgeable and he was a brand ambassador as Danni P Was for #CaliforniaPoolsandlandscaping! I highly recommend California Pools and Landscaping because they stand behind their product and their staff are absolutely fantastic. Fantastic to deal with. I had a pool and spa built 4+ years ago and we are enjoying very much. It was a pleasure dealing with the folks at Cal Pools and Spas! Recently we had an issue with our spa jets, I called Cal Pools and they came out (after the warranty had expired) and they fixed the issue, It turns out it was the settings in spa pump for the jets. The Technician, Jonathan, discovered the issue right away and adjusted the settings back to normal operations. Since it was after the warranty expired I expected a charge, but Leslie from the Cal Pool office waived the fee. It was pleasure dealing with these folks! Thanks Cal Pool and Spas!!! read more
