My old pool sand filter was on it's last legs, leaking water and sand needed to get changed out so I shopped around for a new pool cartridge filter. I got quotes from 4 different pool service companies. James from Poolside Solutions impressed me by showing up for an in person free quote and his attention to detail. He pointed out my cracked concrete pad my old filter and pump was resting on and some bottlenecks from kinks in my old plumbing lines. Poolside Solutions gave me a very competitive quote and I did get an package discount by combining a new cartridge filter with some custom pool plumbing work and new pad. They impressed me so much I later used Poolside Solutions again to convert my pool to salt water by having them put in an Salt water chlorine generator. We had our pool drained and cleaned a week ago with Poolside Solutions. We got 3-4 other quotes and felt best about their confidence and expertise. They were one of the only people who asked follow-up questions about our pool and system to really figure out the best approach. They cleaned it well and the whole process was smooth. When I had a question I messaged them and they answered quickly. They even noticed a possible leak in our pump and they offered to check it out. James from Poolside responded to a warranty claim to see why our pool would not prime. It was a thorny problem. We have several decades of experience owing pools so we tried everything we knew with no luck. James systematically found several possible issues -- including replacing the entire filter -- but obtained warranty co approval for repairs and replacement of a less expensive approach. Take a series of steps, starting with replacing O rings around the intake housing and the mode selector switch at top of the filter. He did the work. No success. He came out again and tweaked it but still no luck. He went to the next item on the list and again obtained warranty co approval to purchase and install the intake source selector valve. It then held pressure if we don't open the cleaning basket. But it still sometimes primed and sometimes didn't. He had a solution for that too -- put a pressure release valve on the filter, which he assumed was putting back pressure making priming iffy. That worked. My kudos are that he didn't claim any part was not consistent with the initial problem. He didn't say he would have to open a new claim and charge a new service fee. He didn't insist we replace the filter even though he knew he had only worked part way down the list of possibilities. In that way he honored his commitment to the warranty company too in that he didn't proclaim initially that all possible causes needed to be fixed immediately. He didn't tell us we had do the new filter, no other option. In short he was a most capable expert in his art/science. He was honest. He gave options and was willing to work from the least expensive down to the more expensive. He didn't whine that he was having to take too many trips. He was thoroughly professional. All of these characteristics are rare in this era. I cannot recommend James and Poolside more highly! read more

In October, I contacted James about needing our pebble tec replaced and the inside of our pool resurfaced. From the first time meeting him and throughout our entire project, James was easy to work with, extremely knowledgeable, and honest. James was very responsive but his staff complained incessantly about having to do their job. Unfortunately that becomes representative of the company's service. Short visits left us with a pool with leaves multiple times, noted right after staff "serviced" pool. They knew the job when they accepted the assignment. We don't mind paying for service but shouldn't be left feeling like your work is a burden, it's YOUR job to clean pools, that's what we are paying for. Moving forward I would suggest better assessment of the needs and omit the complaints to the client. read more
