Had a pool installed over the summer by California pool and I can say construction was a headache drawn out for no reason that I can think of except to justify 55,000 dollar price tag. besides foreman that was not helpful at all only time he shows up was to collect payment.. pool finally completed and I can say pools been nothing but problems besides California pool putting undersized filter I believe knowingly so now I'm stuck buying 130 dollar filter every other month or constantly washing filter out..when I brought this issue up with them they offered to sell me a bigger one lol.. becuase some how them building my pool incorrectly is my fault!!!! We decided to go with Calpool for that lifetime warranty. The price is a little steeper than other companies, but it's hassle free once it's done. We met with Ryan Delfino who was incredibly knowledgeable and customer centric. Having never built or owned a pool He was able to fill In all the gaps for me. We opted for a UV Ozone pool since our kiddos are chlorine sensitive. The pool Turned out incredible. It took a little longer than originally anticipated. A lot of crews on the construction side went down with Covid and we booked the job right at the start of a pool rush. Really that was the only negative but if anything it was out of their control. Our construction manager Duane was great, super responsive and always stopped by if we had any concerns. We went with black onyx pebble tec with black slate on the side of our fire pit and spa. I am going to go ahead and put my overall experience with California pools. If it is one thing that we (my wife and I) have learned, is that things between a potential customer, and a customer, change dramatically. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we dealt with brian, it seemed that things were more hands on, he may not have been available all the time, but when we did meet up with him he did pay attention and helped with all things in regards to picking what we wanted for our landscape front and back, and also included our pool.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then we got Brian to come out with the project manager (Don) to show us what things we're going to get done and give us a timeline of when they would start how the the building would progress and work, and roughly when they should finish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After that point, everything that had to do with communication became more and more difficult when it came to trying to have somebody get back to us and answering any questions that we had pertaining to where they were on the project when they would come back out and who we needed to talk to.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It wasn't until they would get another check from the loan company that they would start to communicate with us and then proceed with the work.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We noticed as they started to put down tile, that the tile would be crooked and or there were chipped pieces, and this was at the very beginning when they started doing the back patio. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We brought this to their attention via email made multiple calls left messages and would not get any return calls, and when we did get any correspondence, they would say that they would forward that information to the project manager or forward that Information of brian, but it never would get resolved.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once they got to the back of the pool with tile that is when we really started to notice a lot of bad placement of the tiles, we started noticing that they we're not lining up correctly and that a lot of them were not laid correctly showing thin on one end thick on the other where the grout went. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Again, we reached out and were told that not to worry about any of that. Because once the project was finished, we would have a final walkthrough, and anything that was not done correctly or was an issue would be replaced and taken care of.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] During this time, we also had additions and some subtractions to the project. Any additions that we had, We paid out of pocket, obviously, it's what we wanted to add, so we were going to pay. After the project finally finished, we had donnie come back out and we explained to him and showed him all the different areas where the tile was not laid out correctly and told him that we needed that changed. He replied to us by saying, "Oh yeah, but who's gonna pay for it?, We're not goning to pay for it is what he said. He then proceeded to tell us that they had done multiple favors for us as if though, when we asked for changes that they did them for free. Not only did they not do them for free, but they overcharged us on specific items that we were not supposed to be charged. Since our pool has been supposedly finished in october, we have been going back and fourth with california polls, their warranty department and multiple individuals, which would include donnie, edgar, Dan, bill and multiple contractors who have come out here, look at the work and agreed that it needed to be fixed. They would tell us that they would be able to fix these problems and it would get resolved quickly. They would have workers come out and do work, but not complete the work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And then we would have to contact the warranty department. Telling them that there was still work that needed to be done, that wasn't finished? And they would say, well, the workers told us that it was done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]But no project manager would come out behind the workers to make sure the work was actually done. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We would then tell them we need them to come out and finish it and it would tell us that their workers are working on another project, so they couldn't come to our house. We would have to wait until they finish another project.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ask them how it makes sense that they are on another project when they haven't finished ours, which clearly started way before any other projects and that we needed them to come and finish the job here. It is now April 2025, 6 months after this project was "completed", and we still have not had the work completed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We just got off the phone with the warranty dept. again, where they told us that we could not get scheduled until next week, because the crew is at another house, and the holiday would also keep them from coming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So the holiday that we cannot invite anyone over to enjoy our pool, because the work is not finished, is that the important (Easter) holiday they are talking about? So we are going to get screwed again and miss out in a gathering because CALIFORNIA POOLS, can't finish their work. If I had to do over, we would not go with Cal pools again. They cared so much to get our business, but they have been full of excuses since than. Blaming everyone. read more

I'm going to give a candid and honest review of our experience with California Pools. Suffice to say, it's been a long journey. Trying to build a pool post pandemic with all the supply chain and labor issues was quite a lengthy endeavor. I'd imagine everyone in the industry had struggles during this time as well, so I'm sensitive to the fact that they did the best they could! We've been through a couple of project managers during the process and we did struggle with some outstanding items that we thought they missed. Towards the warranty end of our contract our superintendent Darren Castillo stepped in and went above and beyond in making things right for us. He was apologetic about our situation and was extremely responsive in resolving all of our issues in a timely manner. If I could define Darren's character in our dealings with him it would be professional integrity. I would highly recommend California Pools if you are looking to build a new pool! By the end of the day we are extremely happy with the end result and are blessed to have a beautiful pool in this summer heat wave we're in! read more

They are very unreliable and unresponsive. Our pool was dug in November. No step gets done on schedule, and they rarely show up when they say they will. We have been on the latest step for steel, and it has been rescheduled 4 times. We were told this morning that now it will be 'sometime next week' when their steel contractors let them know when they can come. If you like a company that follows through with what they say will happen and don't outright lie to you about the status of construction, I'd steer clear of them. I cannot comment on the quality of their work yet. read more

Honestly, this is a review I didn't want to write. I have reached out to this company so many times to resolve the issues we have had with no response other than a continuing "we will get back to you" ...and now I just feel it's my responsibility to pass along warnings to anyone considering going with them because I don't want anyone being stuck in the crappy situation I am. We signed up for our pool months ago. Until recently, Cal Pool was using the crazy false advertising of "Swim this Summer!" to lure customers in. We fell for it, despite this company being far overpriced compared to competitors. We just wanted to swim when summer came. We were only informed in the last few weeks that there is no way we are swimming this summer-There is no shotcrete. But that's not even where they lost my respect. They informed us of this only after they put a giant hole in our yard that will sit there for half the year. Still, I persevered in believing in them. I only asked that they put some type of actual barrier fence for the months they would put no work into this project instead of the flimsy plastic tape off that falls away anytime the wind blows. I repeatedly stated the danger it was to my kids and pets. I asked multiple times for this to be addressed and have been ignored. This is after paying far above the going price for a play pool. Nothing. My yard sits with a giant hole, no work, and a plastic mess that droops and blows away. Do not go with this company under any circumstance. There are always bound to be kinks and delays in construction with any company but blatantly ignoring safety issues and customer concerns is where the line should be drawn. I will continue to try and work with this because I have no choice but if you are looking for quality and customer satisfaction- go somewhere else. read more

I'm really pretty flabbergasted by how poor our experience with California pools has been. Our salesperson got us good, we trusted him and paid more to go with cal pools. We were quoted 7 months and now we are over six months in without even having steal. We have multiple friends building pools and they are waaaaaaaay ahead of us. My neighbors signed on a pool within one day of us and they already have decking and tile and will have water in the pool shortly. Meanwhile our project manager keeps quoting "trade partner delays" and is unwilling and unable to provide any timelines as to when or if they will finish our pool. I just constantly am met with "I will let you know". This is the worst financial decision of my life, if I could pay 10k to have my yard put back and never have to deal with this company again I would in a heartbeat. read more

Our friends signed with Cal Pools one month before we did and their pool has been finished for a month. They had a positive experience and really enjoyed the person they worked with. They had great communication and were contacted every time there was a delay and felt like their project was a priority. Like they were a priority. We have not been so lucky. After 7 1/2 months we still have a dirt hole. It's been one excuse after the other and very avoidable mistakes that have created delay after delay....Almost to the point that now it feels intentional. "Estimated" dates come and go and no one shows up and no one bothers to let us know they aren't showing up. I have to ask for an update or we'd go weeks without hearing anything. Let me be very clear. The delays aren't the problem. We understand COVID and now labor and supply chain issues and of course the monsoons caused major problems. It's the simple fact that we are being treated very differently. We have yet to feel like we are a priority or that anyone in that office is taking our concerns seriously and in some cases we have felt completely dismissed. If you want any control or accountability get a construction loan. Unfortunately, we got a second mortgage (which has no deadline and is totally funded), but our friends had a construction loan that had a deadline. Cal Pools had no choice but to get theirs done....and they did....probably at the expense of those of us who chose a different type of loan. We signed one month after they did and their pool was completed in 7 months despite all the same issues and ours is still a dirt hole with no end in site after 7 1/2 months. We finally felt like we were starting to move forward. Electricians showed up and we were scheduled today for our pre-shotcrete inspection. WE FAILED!!! Electricians didn't finish the job and we don't have plans or a permit on site....so yet again another needless delay. Totally preventable and incompetent. Kinda wondering who's in charge??? UPDATE: We had a very positive visit from the Construction Manager today. We were reassured that moving forward we would be a priority and that every effort would be made to get our project done in a timely manner. Electricians showed up and finished the job, we now have plans and permit on site and our pre-shotcrete inspection is scheduled for tomorrow. We are cautiously optimistic and are willing to give Cal Pools the benefit of the doubt.....STAY TUNED. UPDATE: Passed inspection and were told we would get shotcrete this week....NOT. Delayed again. Now we have an estimated date for shotcrete on 11/22.......We got shotcrete on the scheduled day and have several other things scheduled as well. Feeling optimistic that we are finally going to move forward. UPDATE: project seems to be moving along now. Communication has improved a lot with new scheduler. Decks are all poured and we have dates for completion. Pool will be done for Christmas. Feeling much better!!! read more

About 3 weeks ago my pool was acting difficult and I thought I had sink holes in my yard. I called California Pools for help. Mike McCormick and Jesse came by later that same day. Jesse fixed the pool immediately and help me understand what happened and how to prevent it from happening again. Mike was methodical but determined to find my problem. Once he finished going through the sprinkler system and it's layout, he had his answer. He did a great job explaining my issue , what he was doing to solve the problem and things to look for. We recently finished our backyard and pool with Cal Pools. While building a pool during the pandemic has had its ups and downs with delays that are out of anyone's control, we are so happy with the outcome. We went in with a list of wants and while all weren't possible due to budget, Brian worked with us to get us to a place that marked many of our boxes and fit our budget. Every single contractor that came to our home was respectful and SO hardworking. Much of this project was done during the extreme heat this summer. I was continually impressed with their dedication to the job and quality of work. Anything that needed tweaking (like a travertine piece that didn't set) was very quickly corrected. Overall, there were moments of frustration due to supply shortages but I'm basing my review on the outcome of the product. This is a true trash company. They have caused intense suffering to my family through their deceptive and moronic business practices. They have been working for nearly a year and still my backyard project is not complete. As soon as I paid them, they were uninterested in completing the work. They break promises and commitments with no notice. I have them on tape admitting their mistakes but still they refuse to be held accountable. I have complaints against them at the BBB and AZ ROC.
