This was our 2nd Pool with California Pool and Landscape. From the ideation phase all the way to the finishing touches, their team is highly consultative, patient, and clear experts in their craft. Every single team member (including Cliff, Brian, Jerimiah, Anna, and more!) made every single step of the process easy for us. We felt that they all truly cared about our project turning out the way we envisioned it, and held our hand throughout the entire process. This all mirrors the experience we had with the first pool we built with them. We had California Pools install our pool in 1999, and they did an excellent job then and enjoyed the pool for 26 years. We decided to remodel the pool in 2026 and went right back to California Pools & Landscape to complete the remodel. We found the company still had our original plans from 1999, which made the entire process so much easier. Designer, Erich Mack, was the first to respond and gave us a quote and recommendations. He was very professional and thorough. When we went to the design center, met with Erich, and he assisted us in choosing our pebble tec, tile for the pool remodel. He made excellent suggestions and turned out beautifully. Next, we met Stephen Dreher, who was our construction superintendent. Stephen worked with us every step of the way and and answered any and all questions and concerns we had. To put it simply, he was awesome. Our hardscape superintendents, Ron and Alan, also made excellent suggestions on how to landscape the perimeter of the pool. We want to thank them for their insight and expertise on their design ideas. We decided to go with flagstone all around the pool and spa. The landscape crew included brothers Rueben and Randy, and what an excellent installation they did with the flagstone. Amazing. Last but not least was our coordinator and scheduler, Leann. She worked with us every step of the way. Leann constantly kept us informed and updated as the process continued. We always knew what was happening and when. Overall, the entire experience with California Pool & Landscape was seamless, and efficient. As we had hoped, the end result is stunning, and has made the process worth it. Please see the attached photos. After multiple delays in the construction timeline, we expressed our concerns and frustrations to California Pools, and they responded by assigning a team to ensure that they delivered on our vision of the backyard. Not everything was perfect--construction never is--but we received timely communications and resolutions. Above all else, California Pools was focused on the quality and longevity of the end product, even if items had to be redone. A big thanks to Jeremiah, Marissa, and Scott N. (and others along the way) for their commitment and professionalism with tough circumstances. If I take an honest look at the last several years, I would say that it was a complex project starting in a complex time (COVID). Working with Kathy Venn, I detailed all my issues (which included clogged filtering and a lack of vacuuming). We interviewed four companies and liked the reps from three. We chose this company because they offered a complete service of designing and installing and warranting the pool, hardscape, and landscape. We wanted one company to be responsible and in their presentation they discussed the way the team worked. Joshua Turnbull did our design and was very knowledgeable about plants as well as pool design. They are not the cheapest way to go. They are worth the extra cost. We had never bought a new build with HOA's to consider. We were not on site during process, and flew back and forth to approve materials and layouts. The process was not quick and easy, and it was mostly due to our schedules and my perfectionist eye. I see everything, from imbalance to off color to esthetic usefulness. We all communicated clearly with one another via text and email as well as phone. I sent tons of pictures and questions. They had great foremen working for them. Each process had someone in charge, and each of those teams came in and out with professionalism. The attitude seems to be consistent within the company. They want you to be happy with the results long after the work has been done. There are so many positive things I can say about them. If you want balance, I will say it wasn't seamless. Do not recommend. We put our deposit down the first week in march, we were told we'd be swimming in August. We didn't dig until July. Workers constantly coming out to fix work done incorrectly and app always wrong -saying someone will come & they rarely show!!! We don't even have shotcrete yet. All our family coming in for Christmas and they've made our yard an embarrassing mess. We have to constantly follow up with them to see what's happening-TERRIBLE communication. With all due respect ma'am, that's why you were called to my residence was to assess the pool decking. The gentlemen you sent out verbally quoted 50$ square foot at approx 200 sq ft plus the cost of sub contracting. You have the assessment, how and when you present a repair quote is out of my hands. However you sure had the time to give me recommendations I did not ask for. And apparently had the time to check my pools chemistry in an attempt to not take responsibility for the quality of the material used and poor install of the decking. Travertine should last for decades. Any smart consumer can see the game that you are playing. Are you insinuating that a one time check of low chlorine and dirt after a dust storm constitutes long-standing neglect? If this damage was from the chemical exposure in the water it would be consistent throughout the travertine and the travertine closest to the pool is still intact. What signs of chemical wear were noted and what chemical? It appears California pools has poor business ethics and then will gas light customers to avoid taking responsibility. read more

We used California Pool and landscaping 4 years ago when we had a new home built. They did and amazing job and we were so happy with the final design, Aaron was spot on when he designed our yard. They put our pool in and did all of landscaping And we love it. Fast forward 4 years and we hired them to give our backyard an update. We are adding a grilling/bar area, a fire pit/sitting area and putting turf in to replace our grass. Again we love the design Aaron did for us. We were told that once they start our project it would take about 2 weeks. They began work at the end of March and the project still isn't finished. The work on grill/bar is not up to the standards we expect. The storage area door is crooked, the inside area the cement work looks like a 5 year old did it. Nadine chapman has been very helpful she is trying to get our concerns resolved. We just want our yard completed to the standards we expect considering the amount of money we have given to California Pools. We hate giving poor reviews but when when you see shabby work, what choice do we have. We understand that stuff happens, but we feel this has been drawn out long enough. Yesterday a crew came in to "clean up" and it's still a mess. Our neighbors and HOA are complaining of the mess on the street. read more

So California Pools claims to have a lifetime structural warranty. When the pebble tec began to crack on the structure . They claimed that it wasn't the structure. That the structure was actually inside the pool and I would need to have a leak to warrant any type of fix. They did quote 16,000 dollars for a remodel though. So bottom line the warranty isn't valid . They will try everything possible not to fix your pool. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Our project started during Covid and lasted through supply chain issues so it goes without saying we had more than a few bumps during the construction of our pool and backyard, including multiple supervisors across the course of the project. We moved into a new build so front and backyard needed to be designed, which was done beautifully by Brian and Cliff and both areas look exactly like the CAD drawings! Brian even worked closely with my husband to design a special space for his Traeger grill. During construction, when an area wasn't turning out according to the plan, CA Pools didn't hesitate to fix or re-build the area. While it was an emotional roller coaster to find out things were wrong and then wait for a crew to come back out, it was reassuring that they made sure it was done correctly. Marissa, our project coordinator, did a good job in keeping us updated with changes and scheduling and our supervisor did a good job of getting us unstuck when we ran into a lull early in construction. Happily, we were able to enjoy our pool and backyard for the summer and now that the weather has cooled, are able to enjoy beautiful sunsets at night. While we wish we started our project after the supply chain issues and we still have a few items to resolve, it is truly a fantastic space! read more

We have had a terrible time with this company! I thought I did enough homework on this company before I decided to hire them to do my pool and landscaping. Prices were comparable. Reviews I read were good. We liked the design Robby drew up for us and in January signed the contract to start our pool. Robby said with Covid there might be some delays, but you should have your pool mid summer. They finally started the yard demo in March. They started digging on the pool in April and finished about 2 weeks later. Shotcrete was finally done the end of June. This was then followed by the slide and faux rock formation. We were told by Nadine that you probably won't get to enjoy your pool this summer, but think of all the summers in the future. This obviously isn't what I wanted to hear, but Covid and lack of supplies were the culprit. Things really went south once the tile company took over the beginning of August. It is now September 27 and it still hasn't been completed. The coping has been ripped up twice. We have been told by Scott and Steven that they are new and need to be given a chance. They laid down the tile into their version of what was on the design. Cuts weren't uniform. Tile was uneven and not level. There were significant chips on the corners. They would only work a few hours a day. No supervision even after we complained. We told California pools not to send them back, but they kept coming back to attempt to lay tile. The tile people were suppose to work over Labor Day, but their "truck broke down" and they couldn't make it to the job site. Funny thing is they took all their tools, that had been in my yard for 2 weeks, with them when they left the job site the Friday before the holiday. They were finally fired from the job 2 weeks later for I'm assuming drinking on the job because I found 6 beer cans in my trash. California pools has been terrible at communicating with us about our project. Emails, texts, phone calls go unanswered. Last week I was told by Todd on Wednesday the 22nd that workers would be out to work on the pool on Friday the 24th and my pool we be done in 2 1/2 weeks. No one has been back since. We were told today that they can't get a hold of the sub contractor. I can't believe California pools is leaving their reputation in the hands of this subcontractor. We are fed up with the handling of our project and we are tired of the front and back yards looking like an abandoned work site. read more

We're just at the beginning stages of our pool/patio project. So this is a limited review at this point in time. Our experience has been good with 4-stars. The staff at CP&L have been professional, courteous and informative. The only thing that we have found to be a negative is the inability/unwillingness to give a time commitment when it came to the completion of our CAD drawings. This was, of course, frustrating, since we couldn't get our project officially off the ground until we could get these drawings into the hands of our two HOA's for their approval. This would in turn allow us to really get the ball rolling. For something that's done in-house and under their control, it didn't seem reasonable for an actual date to be not given when asked for several times. Plus, the actual completion date seemed to take longer than it should have. We hope this is the only rough spot we will experience. read more

This company is an absolute disgrace. At the beginning of the year we decided to move forward with getting our pool remodeled. We got several bids and unfortunately chose California Pools. After months of being given excuse after excuse they finally came and demoed the pool in early April. Our understanding was that it was a 6-8 week job. Would you believe these guys have not been back and continue to give excuses. The final straw was today when they had committed to coming and doing the job and didn't show and not even the normal call from Ashton with yet another delay. I'm so annoyed that they demoed it, collected a good portion of the cost, and then never returned. My belief is that they knew they would not be getting to my pool anytime soon and this is why they demoed...to secure the job. In the meantime my family and I could have been using our pool all summer instead of looking out our window to this eye sore. Looks like legal action is my only alternative. I have been nice and accommodating too long. Beware of this company. Do your research and find a company with integrity. read more
