Really sad to say that this place has gone so downhill. Not only are the prices high, the food is not even close to as good as it used to be. Things I was eating here for years are now gross. Guacamole has no taste. Specialdilla was awful. Spinach and black beans barely cooked. Black beans appeared to also have rice mixed in them which is either gross or sloppy or a little bit of both really. Blackened chicken had a bone in it. We've been going to Cal Tort for years. Today was a disappointing day. I ordered the Honey Lime chicken bowl and my husband ordered the Blackened Chicken Burrito. My bowl hardly had any chicken in it, so I talked to the staff ( I think it was the manager) he said he could see chicken but offered to remake it. It had chicken the second time. My husband's Blackened Chicken burrito had NO chicken in it. He asked me to check and I really couldn't see any. He took the burrito back in and the manager said well we don't have any blackened chicken. I guess we should've told you. So we paid for and ordered a blackened chicken burrito. They didn't have any blackened chicken so just gave him a burrito with no chicken in it. He offered my husband expired coupons, but nothing of substance. He said "I guess we should have told you. 7/22/22 I haven't been to California Tortilla in a while since moving out of the area. My daughter wanted to use her 10$ Birthday credit and we do love the food! My reward already expired- sigh! I had (to my delight) 5$ in Burrito bucks so I applied that to my order of three California Sunset tacos. I got them to go. I really enjoyed the flavor of the street tacos but I would have enjoyed them more if the corn tortillas weren't dry and ripping apart- if they had been cooked in oil or steamed it would've been better. I enjoyed my tacos immensely and the ingredients are always so fresh! I was stunned at how nicely they were presented in the box. The star to me was the fresh avocado slices. This place never seems to get an order either correct, out in a reasonable time, or both. The food is alright but if you consistently get the wrong food, it's not clear if you like what you ordered! I recommend training staff to read the order slips and get them done within 10 minutes or the "chipotle-esque" environment will not hold up. Throwing a free burrito gift card at waiting guests doesn't help either! Because they know they won't get what they order anyway! read more

We've been going to this restaurant for 10+ years and it's been great even during covid. It's easy to order via phone to pick up or order take out at the restaurant. Very safe and quick the times we've ordered. We get the no meato burrito, large chips and guac and I usually get tacos. I prefer the street tacos but sub the flour tortillas for the corn. Only change I would make is I wish the music was a bit softer at the restaurant so it's easier to hear and talk. read more

Me and my girlfriend stopped in today for a quick bite to eat. We should've turned around as soon as we walked in to our shoes sticking to the tiles on the ground. We got to the register only to be stuck waiting to place our order in an empty restaurant with only one customer ahead of us. While waiting to place our order, one of the ladies in the food prep area would appear to be eating while in between preparing the customers order ahead of us. The manager finally called a girl out from the back to take our order. When we finally ordered, our food for our take out order came out relatively quick. After getting home with our food, we both got immediately sick with food poisoning. Will not be returning any time soon. read more

I was sitting here enjoying my lunch when a man who was picking up a door dash order picked up the bag and it ripped so he dropped the order on the floor. She was immediately very LOUD and RUDE to the man. He was confirming the door dash order on his phone and she said well maybe if you weren't on your phone you wouldn't have dropped it. Loud enough for EVERYONE in the restaurant to hear. Then continously was bitching about what happened after he had left. It made my experience very bad and I don't think I'll be returning. Very disappointing experience. We got 2 orders of the quesidillas. They were the worst I've ever had. There was barely any chicken inside and very little cheese and nothing else at all. They gave you sour cream and pico de gallo on side. Chicken was very dry. My spouse had the Power Bowl and did enjoy that. Restaurant is very outdated, paint is chipping off the wall, Chairs were extremely uncomfortable and bathroom was very dirty and unisex. Prices are very high for what you get. Just got dinner here tonight and it was so good. Everything was fresh, Packed tightly with food, and filled with flavor. Younger gentleman at counter took my order and was very nice and educated with the menu. staff was working hard and working together so that was nice to see. I would assume the lady in the glasses is the manager and she is very good at her job and stays on top of things and respectful to employees and customers. This was my first time visiting this franchise and I was not disappointed! I was craving Mexican food but something with a bite and the Korean bbq bowl that I got totally hit the spot. It came with rice, fajita veggies, sweet and spicy Korean bbq sauce, slaw, sriracha and pork. Everything was great but the pork was definitely the best! The entire dish was really flavorful and for sure gave me that spice that I wanted. My fiancé had the California sunset bowl (which seems to be their staple) - I tried a bite of it and liked that as well. I would say California Tortilla is similar to a Panera in that you place your order at the counter, grab a table, and they'll call your name when your food is ready. The restaurant was pretty crowded when we went but our food was still prepared quickly. This was perfect for us because we didn't have too much time on our hands and wanted a speedy lunch. My favorite part was the "Wall of Flame" which has shelves upon shelves of hot sauce bottles! From mild to "mouth on fire" hot, they've got every kind you can imagine and you're free to grab as many as you want to test out and add to your meal! I love this fun and unique concept! My only complaint was the portion size. Both of the bowls we got seemed a little small compared to the bowls you would get at any other fast-casual spot. Got the California screaming bowl from this place. Didn't think it was possible to mess up something that's only ingredients are rice chicken and vegetables. But lord knows they did it, it's supposed to be a Mexican concept but it tasted like poorly reheated 3 day old Chinese leftovers. The chunks of chicken in this bowl are the size of golf balls and take about 2 minutes per chunk to get down your throat and that's while sipping on coke that taste like a cardboard box due to the paper straws. The vegetables were slimy and tomatoes tasted like water. They have the worst selection of hot sauces and they don't refrigerate them after opening although the bottle says to. Since the shabby treatment I received at the location a half mile from my house I've since adopted Rofo as my new hometown Cal Tort. Two visits so far and I've received everything just the way I ordered it with nothing missing. Based on past experience I double checked with a manager that steak was in fact in my salad as it wasn't visible. He assured me it was and that they put it on the bottom of the bowl. I appreciated the education. I'd still rather patronize the Phoenixville location but can't risk encountering the same incompetent staff and mismanagement I did on previous visits. read more

I stopped going here the last while. The last four out of five times my girlfriend's pickup order was cold. It was probably because it was a bit outside the traditional lunch hour, 2pm-5pm range, and she eats mostly vegetarian and gets the no-meato burrito. We pick up our stuff quickly and are back home within minutes, so it's not us. But it has happened too often to really be coincidence of bad luck and it's pricey to get cold food that is hard to reheat while retaining the integrity of the fresh salsa and avocado inside. It's not a bad place, the ingredients are good, but at the price, I wanted something better. Since then, we just stocked up on Trader Joe's Vegetable Burritos for $1.50 each and some avocados and veggies and are happier with that. read more

To make matters worse my bag of chips wasn't even halfway filled then when I go to the bathroom, there's no soap, so I'm waiting to use another bathroom when the cook comes out and uses the bathroom with no soap. I told him that he needed to wash his hands because that's disgusting and he acted like he didn't speak English, but he spoke English when I said that I was waiting for the bathroom and the other one had no soap. As a male chef, I know he touched his dick and then proceeded to go on and make Customer's food with his raunchy hands. This was the definition of a restaurant violation and the place should be ashamed to charge $17 for two tacos when their facility is by no means up to standards and their employees are foul dirt balls. read more

This is my go-to place to get some good Mexican food! I have gotten takeout from CT several times in the past month and I have not been disappointed. I love their burritos because they have a variety of ingredients and are a good value since they are HUGE. I also have tried their fish tacos, which are delicious! Love this place. It is conveniently located near my work and a huge shopping center where i frequently shop. I've been coming here for years. Never had an issue and always consistent until the other day. I did an online order and ordered the "add-on" of soda and chips (had a free coupon for it). Went to go pick up and asked for my Soda and Chips and she said I will need to pay for them. She stated there was a computer issue. So, since I left the code at my desk I decided to just take the burrito itself. Just a day ago, I attempted to order and try to use my Soda and Chips coupon again (because I wasn't able to use it last time because of their computer issue) and it said it has already been used. The food came out fast and this time the chicken was edible. I also added a side of chips and queso on, but the queso was too solidified and not melty at all. Coke freestyle machine available. If you don't look down at the floor you'll be fine. Large hole in the tile on the floor. Other areas of the floor look somewhat dirty. I am not here to argue with the other yelp reviews; instead I am here to tell you why this place is 5 stars in my book. It is truly a love it or hate it place, not too many people are in between. The atmosphere is very fun and "spunky" if you have an introverted personality you may feel uncomfortable with how outgoing everyone is here. When you get to this place, pick up a copy of "Taco Talk located in the lobby or at the register. The newsletter is informative and hilarious at the same time, the woman that writes it is into self-deprecating humor which is one of my favorite types. Plus this gives you something to read while you wait for your food. The selection of the food is as enormous as my waistline. The selection of meat is mesquite chicken, blackened chicken, fish, blackened fish, steak, and I am sure I am missing something. The thing I like about this place over Chipotle or Moe's is that the variety of burritos they have to choose from. They have various concoctions you would never imagine in a burrito. Such as a blackened chicken caesar, buffalo wing (these are two of my fav's) as well as one of their flagship burritos "California Screamin." That burrito is named after their own hot sauce. Speaking of hot sauce, holy crap! They have an entire wall of hot sauces rated from 1 - 10 on a scale for heat. Find a sauce that you really like, you can buy it there for about $5. This is a neat additive that more restaurants should adopt. As far as sides you can get with your meals is a salsa, queso, or guacamole. In my opinion you would make a huge mistake if you do not try this place for yourself. When you do try it, if you like it ask the cashier if you can join the Burrito Elito club. This is free to you, and accumulates points for you to earn free food. They also credit you with free burritos from time to time (birthdays, when the miss you, etc.). This is a great place to go for really tasty, California-type chain burritos + chips and guac. Being a transplant from CA, I know when it is something that resembles the guilty pleasures from the land of the plastic. Their food is yum with the added appeal of being atypical in the recipe department. Chips and guac are the normal, good fare. What I love best, though, is the wall of hot sauces they have available. Nowhere else (save for New Hope and a few other remote locations) can you get such a variety of hot sauces that will leave you crying in the bathroom the next morning. As for the four stars, I just could not give anything that is a chain more than four stars. Consider it a five star equivalent for a chain restaurant. read more
