Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time... and it's inside a gas station. @elgordobros I stopped by El Gordo Bros and was seriously impressed with everything I tried. Every dish tasted fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Service was fabulous! Started with their house-made guacamole & pico de gallo, which were both super fresh and the perfect way to kick things off. I also tried the elote, which was packed with flavor, and the fish taco, which was light, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The King Taco was another standout, and I really loved the queso birria taco; so rich, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a great birria taco. And you can't leave without trying their horchata, which was the perfect refreshing drink to go with all the food. I also had the opportunity to try their Baja fish taco which was another stand out for me! The fish was light, the Baja sauce was so flavorful and delish! What makes this spot even more unique is that their locations are actually inside QuickStop gas station market, which makes it such an unexpected gem. Their first location started near the King of Prussia area, and they now have a few locations in the area; including this one in Collegeville. Just goes to show that sometimes the best food can come from the most unexpected places. If you see El Gordo Bros while you're stopping at QuickStop... trust me, it's worth it. read more

Thank goodness they have a low overhead camping out in what appears to be a hollowed out Wawa reminiscent of smoke shop gas station vibes without a single gas pump. Situated on a small main ave plot, with adequate parking and a stones throw away from the perkiomen trail, el Gordo bros provides the fuel you need for a quick pick me up, a burst of energy or a drunken stomach screaming for nutrition on a late night. And don't get me wrong, this is more than just your standard hangover preventing college fare; this is quality food at a price that even mass market fast food eateries (chipotle? Taco Bell? I've had a slight El Gordo addiction ever since I tried it a few weeks ago. I They have three locations: Collegeville, Norristown, and KOP. At the Norristown location, I ordered two $1.50 beef tacos, and it came with a side of beans and chips. Service is always prompt and speedy. The tacos at El Gordo is particularly indulgent with a delightful flavor blast that pleases the senses. The homemade green and red sauce pair well with the tacos. Had no idea this place existed and was hesitant because it was inside Quick stop but someone recommended it to me! The portions were huge and the prices were pretty good! We got the veggie taco salad, steak burrito, and chicken fajitas which we all liked. They did use chicken thighs which I don't like as much as chicken breasts but it was delicious. We've been wanting to try this place since we moved to the area 3 months ago but they close on the early side so it's been tough. We finally got there the other night and had high hopes based on other reviews but were left a bit disappointed. I got the chicken chimichanga and it was big and not bad overall but it was super soggy from all of the condiments sitting on top including cheese sauce, which definitely wasn't needed with the ridiculous amount of cheese inside (and I say this as a cheese lover). The bf got steak fajitas and there was a good amount of steak but it was dry and chopped/sliced up super thin almost like for a cheesesteak? And not very well seasoned. Guac was good and on the spicy side which is fine with us. We hoped we found a sort of hole in the wall gem (and it's possible we didn't order the "right" stuff) but we'll keep looking. El Gordo Bros is legit. There's really nothing else left to say - - our friend kept raving about it and we chuckled it off. But, we finally visited this fantastic little spot within an old Wawa behind the KOP Target. They occupy just a few hundred square feet (if that) and work their magic in that tiny space. The mega bowls are delicious - loaded with rice, beans, guac, and chicken. The quesadillas can get a bit soggy, so eat them right away, but the flavor -- it's spot on. We have tried both the chicken and beef one. And then there's the nachos - our kids devoured them! The gamily behind the counter is super nice and the food is fast and tasty.
