Coming from the East Bay, I'm used to the efficient customer service and wide selection of Harborside. Caliva came up on Yelp as highly rated, and my SJ friend and I decided to stop by on Friday. We came around 7pm and waited about 20 minutes to get in. Once you get in they ask you to register on their iPads, and that's where they get your info to start sending spam texts your phones. Once registered, you sit and wait another 10 minutes to be called into their showroom. Inside the showroom, you wait in another line to be helped by the budtender. You are not allowed to browse the aisles by yourself. I appreciate their social distancing precautions with 4 customers in the showroom at a time. However, I felt the registering part was unnecessary. Our budtender was somewhat helpful. We were there specifically for CBD products, which they had a decent variety of but most were mixed with THC. They didn't have any pure CBD products available. I picked up some 20:1 CBD:THC products per the recommendation of the budtender. I bought the edibles for my husband which he said were okay, but he's has better. They're cash only, can't use debit card like most dispensaries. You can download some app they use that's similar to Venmo. Overall, Caliva was an okay experience, but don't think I'll be back because there are better dispensaries out there. read more

As quarantine is in full effect, many are left home with nothing to do. This place has been quite packed the times I've passed by with lines on two sides of the building. It can take up to an hour waiting to get to the main lobby and another 10 minutes to just go inside. I assume everyone needs something to help keep them sane during these stressful times. Remember this place is cash only. I obviously did not pay attention to this when I spotted this on Yelp. Luckily, they had an ATM machine inside, hooray for ATM withdrawal fees! I'm not much of a weed aficionado. If I do partake, it's on a rare occasion. And then when I do, you can just call me a "one hit wonder." It's the same with alcohol so call me cheap. In my world, it's not a bad thing since I don't need much. When I did visit Caliva, it wasn't for recreational purposes at all. It was for a CBD/ THC balm for knee pain. Ever since I tore my ACL, my left knee has been on and off giving me issues. My usual "go-to" is Ibuprofen but even that gets tiresome especially when you start to feel like you take it more often than you need to. When someone mentioned this stuff to me, I was more than game to try it. The experience here was fast, friendly and efficient. After checking in with your ID at the front door, you are directed to walk in and then sign in on an iPad with your info so it's all saved up in their system. Then you walk up to the smiling front desk agents who direct you into another set of doors. No cameras allowed they say. After walking through the doors, you fall into an organized line where you wait for a "bud tender" to call you up. The place is huge, spacious and filled with every kind of product imaginable-- candy, drinks, cookies (edibles), lotions, tinctures, mints, vape pens, and so much more. Merchandising genius, I say. The line moves quickly and once called up, I meet my "bud tender" and ask for exactly what I want. They show me several options of lotions and balms. I ended up going with a balm called "Dr. delights relieve" which has 125mg THC + 125mg CBD. It promises "serious pain relief + so much more." It came out to $50 for 2.5 ounces so the stuff ain't cheap. California got smart and decided to tax everyone 30%. And the results? Good, but not great. I can't say that it's taken away all of my knee pain but after about 15 minutes of rubbing it in, I can feel a little relief. read more

Ok, so what I'm going to mention first isn't why I came to leave the review, but... Caliva is my favorite dispensary in the area. I use Pax exclusively because almost everything else burns badly, and their Pax strains are THE BEST (I'm looking at you, Pillow Talk). Just wanted to say that first... Yesterday I went in person to get strains they don't have online when I usually order delivery. Before I left, I checked to make sure they hadn't leaked or anything, and I found one of the pods was more than 1/4 empty (see picture, full pod for reference) though there was no leakage in the package. I had exchanged pods from delivery before, so didn't expect any issues. A guy came out and insisted that it is not as empty as it looks and that leaving it standing upright would verify his claim. I asked where the volume was supposed to come from, and was confused and frustrated, but said I'd run the experiment myself. Well, I did that last night, and you can see the second pic for yourself - I still don't know where it came from but the pods look the same. I'm baffled but the data aren't lying. I tried to be polite with him but fell short of what I would have liked, so decided to document the result here. I can't really tell if this place is more expensive than other places or not because I've only ever gone to SF, however what I like most about this particular dispensary is that they have plentiful parking spots out in front reserved for pick up orders so you never have to step foot inside if you know what you want already. On top of that they have a good assortment of goodies and their chat line is also very helpful. Once you place your order, the system will ask you to confirm your ID by taking a picture. Once your identity is confirmed you can place the order and when the order is ready they text you. I've always had my order filled within 5 minutes of placing it! When you arrive you just text the same number that sent you the confirmation and they will call you to confirm the items in your order and ask how you are paying. You typically pay cash but online they also have a system where you link from your bank account. The person comes to your car and they give you your change inside the bag with your goodies. They are usually very quick but on busier holiday dates where a lot of people are waiting it can take up to 20-30 minutes. I haven't been inside to know what it's like but I'm perfectly fine staying outside waiting for my stuff to get hand delivered instead. I can't speak to the pricing versus other places but I've liked most things I've gotten so far. What I pay for is the convenience really. read more

I went in with a 3-item order, budtender got one wrong, but because it was hidden behicd a package ofsoemthing I DID order, I didn't realize it was wrong until I got home. Budtender didn't bother to write my order down, didn 't confirm the order except when we confirmed weight of some flower on the order. I didn't see the wrong item until I got home. Called store (San Jose), was told they'd exchange in 72 hours but no compensation for time/gas wasted due to THEIR error. That's why I only go there for items I can't get anywhere else now, and I"m about to write that stuff off too. Airfield is outshining Caliva massively in service. When they make a goof they step up and compensate with a courtesy discount. Caliva's got the same corporate parentr, what's their problem? Fuck you Caliva you lost a customer. Was it worth the 5$ courtesy discount? I've given Airfield over $1000 in the last 3 months. Kiss it off forever. read more

I only give it two stars because security and the front desk are nice. Out of the three occasions I came in, one of those times I knew what I wanted so I was in and out quick didn't need much help. However the other two times I've been met with employees who couldn't give a crap about helping customers. Maybe I'm just unlucky but both times I'd ask for a recommendations for certain things like nausea or a good bedtime strain and all they ask me is "sativa or indica" and then pull the more expensive products. The last time I was there the guy that helped me looked like he didn't even want to be there , barely said a word and looked annoyed and sounded very sarcastic, gave no recommendations, and pulled expensive product. I normally do curbside order , but I decided to go inside recently and had a really great experience. Chiana (I hope I'm spelling her name right ) was helping me out and was extremely helpful and friendly. She even told me about "Tasty Thursdays" which gets you 10% off edibles all day! I never knew about that before, so I was really appreciative of her letting me know since that's my main choice of product. Generally a good selection of reasonably priced and interesting products and I've always had good customer service here for in person pickups. The staff is usually very friendly and happy to answer questions. Just bring cash if you want to avoid ATM fees (or call your bank after the fact.. many waive them.) I also find curbside pickup quick and easy to use and have never had a problem with the Hypur app. I've always gone during less than busy hours though so YMMV. Parking is also plentiful. I've been a customer since 2019 and having done some comparison shopping, I feel that their prices tend to be less than competitors and they run some excellent specials. My only feedback would be on the delivery service. It's convenient and appreciated, but twice the driver did not get out of the car and actually come to the door. Both times they wanted someone to come out. One claiming he couldn't find parking even though we could see available parking spots out of our window while we were on the phone with him. We are able to come outside, however... what if you have a disabled customer? Or someone recovering from surgery or otherwise unable to come out for whatever reason? Any other delivery service comes to my door, so shouldn't this be the same? If not, don't be surprised if you lose a tip. read more

Solid business that is consistently well stocked, has good sales and products and unlike many of their competitors can actually fill an order in an honest and timely manner. 420 this year was apparently chaotic for them and their website crashed early in the day and despite my order being completed almost 12 hours before they shuttered their website prematurely I sat home all day waiting for a delivery that never arrived and was eventually "cancelled" via email ?! Man was I pissed off ! I called and eventually got ahold of staff that explained what happened and apologized and had me reorder my stuff. I called, complained and was sent back to square one the next day but unlike other local delivery vendors (like Amuse) Caliva still had shelves well stocked, they honored their sale prices and delivered everything on time and as promised ! I ordered delivery at 5pm. They said it will be delivered between 7pm and 10pm. At 9:58 pm I get a notification they will deliver shortly. At 10pm the delivery gets canceled because they cannot deliver past 10pm. All happening real time - no customer service, no notifications, and since I needed to sign for the delivery, I canceled my plans and waited at the front door for an hour basically. When I wrote to them the next morning to ask what happened, there was no apologies, no offer to make it right (a discount? a coupon for my trouble?) After several years of using Caliva - never again. Tonight I place my order 3hours in advanced and right as I got a message my delivery was on its way so I checked to see how far the driver was he was less than 10min away and 4 minutes later it said order could not be completed but the driver never even came to my house or gave me a call. I get that it was the end of the night but I placed it hours in advance and they even confirmed and said they were on the way. If they would have just called or texted me a hour earlier when I got the initial message saying it was on a route I would have just came in. Which I have also had to do for the last my 2 out of 4 of my recent deliveries due to their incompetency. FYI CALIVA ITS NOT COOL TO CONFIRM AND TEXT THAT AN ORDER IS ON THE WAY AND THEN NOT EVEN ATTEMPTED TO SHOW UP CAUSE YOUR LAZY AND WANT TO GO HOME.
