Today was my first visit to Calliope Food truck in Rosenberg. The food was AMAZING, DELICIOUS, AUTHENTICLY NOLA!! My family and I absolutely loved it! The roast beef po-boy, brought me back to living in the New Orleans area. We were very impressed by the quality of the fried catfish. It was fresh, well seasoned, with large- thick portions. We've dined in twice in the last few days and loved both meals. My wife got a half pound of boiled shrimp with mild garlic butter. I went with a small roast beef & gravy and a small 2 piece fried boudin balls....our second visit the following day involved us devouring a small bowl of mixed gumbo.....you can 3 different sizes.... and a bowl of crawfish etoufe and an amazing fried crawfish pie with remoulade sauce. Second time grabbing food from here. Always great. Portion sizes are good. First time I ordered 2pc fish and shrimp with mixed rice. Fish pieces were huge. My wife and I could have ate from one plate. The boudin egg rolls were also really great fried rice had shrimp, sausage, and crawfish in it This time around wife ordered a shrimp po-boy bread was crisp on the outside side and soft on the inside shrimp tasted great and the fries were crispy and airy. I ordered the regular sized po-boy and again portion size was big. Basically ordered two 6in subs. I ordered shrimp suicide box. Very flavorful cake with corn a potato and a boiled egg. The sauce for the boiled shrimp covered the rice. Making every bite flavorful and spicy. Last time I went they had ran out of gumbo but was able to lock some in this go around and it did not disappoint! Service has always been great. I had the grilled shrimp platter. It was really good. A couple of the shrimp were slightly overcooked, but not enough to be upset. The accompanying vegetables were awesome. The plain old slice of bread seemed kind of random--maybe try serving it as garlic butter toast?Overall good value for the price: the platter and a drink were around $16-17. Went to this cajun/creole fast casual spot for a business lunch on a Friday near my office. I have been meaning to try their poboys for awhile and they did not dissappoint at all. The crew I was with had poboys, boudin balls, red beans and rice, gumbo, and some other items and everyone really enjoyed their meal and gushed over the spot. I was the hero for lunch that day, LOL. Service was more than adequate with a fast casual atmosphere, and I will be back. This particular location off of W. Bellfort in Houston isn't the greatest neighborhood, but for a mid-day lunch it is just fine. Again, I will happily go back. read more

As someone who is originally from New Orleans, I can happily say that Calliope's has some of the best, most authentic poboys that you will find in Houston! The fries are also pretty good. My friend tried the boudin balls and she said they were fresh and flavorful. The only reason why I give them 4 stars is because the daiquiri that I had was not the best. Quintessential Houston spot. Great gumbo and lots of fun daiquiris. My dad enjoyed his shrimp fried rice and my brother said his surf and turf po-boy was just ok. I think next time he'd just get a more classic fried seafood po-boy. One dude came through the dining area begging for change, but he wasn't aggressive when we politely declined. I have been coming here regularly since they opened on W. Belfort (20 years?) and have loved it. But this last visit was not great. The normally delicious roast beef poboy was way too salty (this coming from a salt lover), the unsweet iced tea had a weird (maybe peach?) flavor, and the music was too loud to have a conversation. My companion commented that this was a lunch restaurant, not a bar. We asked for the music to be turned down, but no luck. I ordered a small fried rice to-go, which they conscientiously waited to give me until I was leaving, and it was delicious (although I got and paid for a large order, so I ate it for days.) I will hesitate to go back, but may give it one more chance. There is no reason for the music to be blaring. The menu is great and varied and the food is normally very good. read more

Kuh-lie-oh-pee Calliope is small, neat, clean and bright. The food is fresh and tasty and the service was good. We had gumbo which was the best I have had in a restaurant in Texas. Red beans and rice, very good, fried catfish good with a corn meal breading and fried shrimp which were good but small. We also had an oyster poboy which was better than okay but not great. The bread did not have that crisp outside which a poboy sandwich should have. The place was recommended by the head butcher at Pyburn's which is just down the road. He is from NOLA and was correct about the gumbo. We live in Fort Bend County and will be back. read more

I was impressed with the taste of the gumbo. I usually don't get gumbo from restaurants because of a bad experience but it was good. I love the fried fish and the calliope fried rice. The service is pretty decent I have no complaints, and the restaurant is clean but the prices since Covid has jumped up but so has every restaurant, some places more than others. read more

These guys are masters of spice and I don't say this lightly. I got their grilled Tilapia platter and the fish had the perfect amount of spices - not overwhelming the senses and allowing you to taste the fresh and juicy fish. Then they have this dipping sauce that is out of this world. Their onion rings are also made perfectly. I do wish that they had a bigger portion of coleslaw but eh, it is what it is. Overall this is a hidden gem in Houston and they have high quality cajun food and the staff is nice and friendly and take the time to explain the different options. Highly recommend them. read more

I got the gumbo today (chicken sausage crab and shrimp) and let me tell you, it's amazing! So much flavor in one bowl! Extremely tasty and full of flavor! We also had an appetizer: boudain Balls which were really good as well. The andouille sausage with the red beans and rice looked really good too! This place is kind of far from me but I will definitely stop back in when I am on the south side of town. I would like to try several things on their menu. The wings look good, poboys too. I was very pleased with my gumbo. It's so good that I probably would drive all the way from the northwest on a cold day just get their gumbo. This place is a real winner. I had a hankering for crawfish and so we came to Calliopes because my husband wanted a poboy and wings. I have to be honest and say that it wasn't as good as I was anticipating. When I came to this location years ago it was great. But today was the first time I had crawfish there. I usually get the pot boys. The fried rice didn't taste fried but more or less just heated and buttery. The crawfish flavor was good and spicy. My husband raved about the fried wings. And the po boys were ok. When I came years ago, I remember the bread being fresh and the shrimp being bigger but today the bread wasn't as soft and toasty and the shrimp were a decent size but not like I remembered. This is another great Louisiana style seafood restaurant who's owners are former Louisiana and N.O. residents like me.
