I have lived near this Mom & Pop, hole in the wall, for 5 years, now, going back to when it was called KC's... How long it has been here, and why the name change, other than maybe the place is no longer tied to the KC's over on Telephone, I do not know. The menu is pretty much the same, just a bit higher prices than 5 years ago. I come here for the very good Burgers & Fries and, as I think most people do, consider the place more "Take-out" than "Eat In", since there are only 2 tables in a small space. Quick and friendly service, good food of various types, at decent prices, with a clean dine-in and ordering area, means they compete well with the big boys, down the street to the east and west of their corner. It is located at the west end of a very dodgy strip mall whose owner can't be bothered to update the street-side billboard to accurately reflect all the businesses there, and you need to be aware of the neighborhood dealers, addicts, drunks and jobless that sometimes hang around, not to mention the ever changing small homeless population behind the center at Corporate, and under nearby Beltway 8. 2 Metro Buses come by here, and there are more, depending on how far you want to walk. to work off calories, before, or after your meal. read more

Move over Mambo rice, let KC's fried rice come through. Crawfish fried rice is da bomb. With a hint of Cajun spice, the fried rice is very pleasing. Since I'm a picky eater, I hesitated to eat fried food, until I tried their fried catfish with a happy face - not greasy at all. I sampled the lunch special of 4 pieces of catfish, starch (rice or fries) and veggie (salad or slaw). I had an opportunity to meet the owners and found out they have another location on Telephone Road. This place gets busy at lunch time. Most of orders are take outs, because seating is limited. If you are in the Chinatown or Beltway/Beechnut area, stop by to give KC's a try. They also serve a few Chinese dishes. read more

I think that for what this place has to offer, it's good, but not great... This is a hole in the wall that is kind of ghetto looking, but at least is very clean on the inside and offers good food. They have a varied menu that includes everything from chicken to seafood. They of course specialize in fried seafood so I would recommend getting one of those items. Food: I got the fried shrimp and fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. The catfish seemed very standard and possibly store bought, but still good. The fried shrimp was actually pretty amazing and I would get it again. The coleslaw wasn't that good...it was too watery and the flavor wasn't really there. The fried were standard and didn't really stand out much. My boyfriend got the fried shrimp and fried oyster combo with fried rice. The fried oysters were pretty good, but still very watery. I did not enjoy the standard fried rice... But from other reviews, the actual specialized fried race dishes are pretty good, so I might have to go back to try that. Price: it was very decently priced for the amount of food you get. This is great if you want to grab a quick lunch for a cheap price. Space: there really wasn't too much room to sit and eat. There's a small bar area with chairs but this is more of a To go place. Overall, might go here for something cheap and fried, but I wasn't too overly impressed by it. read more

It's not a big spot. It reminds me of any Chinese restaurant back in NYC. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and chicken wings. I liked it! They even have packages of duck sauce and that is awesome. The hot sauce on the wings is good. I would definitely order again. read more

It is your traditional small mom and pop shop. It is a hop and a skip to where I work so I had to try this place out. Usually when you talk mom and pop shops.. they food is usually good for the most part. They have a pretty good selection of different types of meals from chicken to seafood. It seems like they cook everything made to order. Of course, you have to purchase drinks and chips separately from your meal. Yes $0.99cent ARIZONA Tea's are NOT $1 here. LOL I ordered a 10 piece wings and fries. It took about 10-15 minutes to prepare... which I didn't mind because.. "Hey, they are making it fresh, nothing is premade! Must be good!!" When I got my food... hmmm, everything looks alright. But when I bit into the chicken it just wasn't right. The chicken was obviously NOT fresh!! It seemed like it had a film surrounding the chicken in between the fried batter and the meat. It was absolutely disgusting!! I ended up eating 3 before just throwing the whole thing away. I was thoroughly disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone! If I could, I would give this place zero stars... I have no idea why this place is rated 4/5 stars!?!?? I've been looking for a new place to get quick fried fish since one of my favorites spots had closed. Searched yelp and came upon this little place on the way home from work. Now I will say, the area is not the nicest I've been in but not the worst either. It's mostly due to all the people loitering but the actual restaurant seemed clean. Not a place I would go to alone after dark. I ordered the 2pc fried catfish with fries and mixed veggies, because they were out of salad. Salad?? Never heard of being out of salad. Anyway I also got an order of chicken fried rice for work the next day. The fried fish was hot and well seasoned with medium cut fries that were fine. The veggies tasted like they were seasoned too and grilled. I tried the fried rice while it was still hot. Nothing special at all. There was a decent amount of chicken but the taste of the rice was a bit off and the egg in it was bright orange and strange. Although the fish was pretty good, it wasn't anything I couldn't find elsewhere so I guess I'll keep looking for a great new place for quick seafood. read more

I was sketchy at first coming here but after seeing the prices I decided to come here because it's so cheap and you get so much food! I had the fried 6 shrimp and 6 oyster combo with fries, coleslaw and toast and it tasted good. The fries and toast were ok but I enjoyed my oyster and shrimp. Very reasonable sizes and not tiny. The coleslaw needs a little more mayo but it was also ok. The young girl up front could use a little more people skills like greeting customers cuz I was just standing there the whole time and she was staring at me at the register. We drove past here nearly every day for years and never thought of stopping in, but when we finally did, we regretted not doing it sooner. We usually come here during the day, and at least during that time we've had no problems with safety. The front is really clean, you can see right into the kitchens which also look really clean, and the food is both reasonably priced and very very good. I can highly recommend the fried catfish and fried shrimp - both very light and crispy. The fried rice is also good; not the best I've had in Houston, but this place is so conveniently located it more than makes up for that shortcoming. They've even started doing chili cheese fries recently, and they go great with one of their (huge!) burgers. Prices tend to fluctuate depending on the availability of fish etc., but generally a meal from here won't set you back much more than something from a fast food chain. The combination fried rice was pretty good as well. Fried oysters were big in size and yummy too. At Kc's, I could get delicious seafood for little $. The quality of the food is more than the price that I paid. all kids and my family member happy with their orders. If you have chance to Visit Houston, make sure stop by KC's Seafood and Grill places. as I know, Kc's only have 2 franchises at Houston only : 1st : 5635 Telephone Rd. I was at my boyfriends place in the area & was looking for something other than the local fare (Chinese, Taiwanese, Malaysian, etc). I yelped this little place & was more than satisfied. Definitely a mom & pop feel here. The dining area is small, I'd definitely carry out. I got the fried catfish po-boy with all the fixins & fries for 6.99 (awesome!). Wait was quick! The catfish was seasoned to perfection & the the baguette was toasted just right so that my fresh veggies didn't fall off or soak the bread. Which was highly appreciated. Tarter sauce, extra ketchup, & hot sauce available on request. They also have daily specials. Will definitely be back for a quick dinner stop. read more

For the record, this place changed its name to GC's Seafood and Grill. Was a little confused when looking for KC's. Had the 6c cat fish, with fried rice and salad - second note...he said they dont do coleslaw anymore, which is sad. The catfish was crispy- wish it would have been a little thicker for taste sake but it was good. The breading was a little salty. I added hot sauce to the tauter sauce which made it better. Overall...its a decent affordable meal thats right around the corner. I'll probably go back again. If i could rate it a 3.5 I would...but ill round up. Food is great, price is great too, but it's definitely a take out place. If they had somewhere to sit where I felt comfortable dining, and not even something fancy-just like McDonald's tables, then I would give this place five stars. Bought the $6 po boy and the $6 crawfish fried rice. Both were pretty good. Rub is its pure ghetto. Take out only unless you want to sit at the small soda counter while being interrupted by crack heads and homeless ppl the mgt allows to just stroll in and proposition the customers.
