This is a difficult golf course and is in pretty good shape. Be prepared for a 5.5 to 6.0 hour round. If you finish quicker than that, be happy. In the last 20 years, I have only walked off two rounds of golf due to slow play, and they were both at Callippe. The last round, we had three groups on the first par 3. By the time we got to the 10th tee, we were 2 hours and 45 minutes into the round and we were the third group on the 10th tee. We called it a day and headed to the bar. The issue is the tee times are 8 minutes apart and the difficulty of the course creates slow play. If you have all the time in the world, want to see a beautiful course, and have a challenging round, this is a great spot, but I won't ever be going back. read more

Top 5 for me. Would love to regularly play here. Fairways & greens were immaculate. Really short from the whites (6000) I think. We played blues at (6400) and it was still easy to score. Definitely get out there early for the range (grass range another +) and warm up those longer irons or hybrids because the back 9 has a lot of target/ smart golf where you need to lay up and you'll be off set on a hill or not depending where you miss. This course is NOT flat. Which makes it super fun. Only gripe is that there's no Cart girl for a $87 tee time & the fact that the members are able to book out all the morning weekend times weeks in advance so people that live in concord or further like me that are interested in playing a round can never get a morning time unless you look the night before for cancellations. Our professional group enjoyed celebrating our holiday dinner last year at Callippe Preserve so much, that we hosted it there again this year, and are relocating our annual golf tournament to there! Morgan and her team were absolutely wonderful and helpful to work with - we were so happy with how professional and friendly everyone was and the events went so smoothly. One note is that the road leading to the venue is not lit (i.e. dark) so could be more difficult for older attendees. Also, keep in mind bringing a warm coat as there can be a wind blowing through the venue if the doors are open (prearranged accordingly for COVID purposes). read more

The golf looks great (amazing actually) but my husband and I had our wedding here last weekend and were blown away by the beauty, attention to detail and experience that the staff had. Morgan, the event planner and absolute gem, and Charissa, the food and bev manager, were so easy to work with and helped make our day beyond perfect. They listened to what we wanted and made it happen and I will be forever grateful to them for putting the time and care they did to make our day so special. Booked for an 11:32am tee time, course was so backed up didn't start until 11:55am. Took 3.5 hours to finish 9 holes. Over booked on a Wednesday with 8 minutes between each tee time. We would wait 3 to 4 groups deep on each at a time. Course management is getting greedy trying to pack as many tee times as possible in each day. Carts have seen better days. I paid the cart fee for the seat to be held together with tape, GPS screen to turn off every few minutes, bolts missing and cart rattling nonstop. Not worth the price, wait or conditions for a Wednesday or any other day of the week. Highly disappointed. read more

Callippe is my favorite course in the Bay Area. The course is a fantastic test of golf but the people are what always bring me back. The shop staff are always accommodating, friendly and create a great experience. There is no place I enjoy hanging out more before and after a round than Callippe's bar and grill. The food is excellent (grab a tuna melt or burger dog) and the staff is the best in the business. Amy is my favorite bartender at a golf course or any other venue for that matter. She's always takes the time to be friendly and courteous even though the bar is usually packed with customers (she even knows my drink!) I can definitely say part of the reason so many people love just hanging out here is because of the environment Amy and the entire staff create. Love Callippe! read more

In a male-dominated environment, she remains in control but also partakes in the conversations and interactions of her customers. They immediately respond to her attentiveness. With women customers, she encourages their participation in golf as well as the post-round socializing. Beautiful place. Pre-round driving range was good for the soul but not the game, lol. Came on a Tuesday early morning and was a tad busy. Our round came with carts under $50 which is worth it and then some for this type of course. The carts had a monitor with a course layout, yardage, Bluetooth speaker and tracks which hole you're on. Pretty slick my guy!!! The tee boxes were well kept, fairways were forgiving and greens were just right. Mind you, this is probably my 4th 18-hole and out of the 4 checked all my boxes. Not too difficult, beautiful course, great value (depending on day and time) and pace was fine. We did feel like we were being rushed but if you're a triple bogey guy like me then it's expected. We came here to attend my cousin's wedding. The location is beautiful. This summer has been really dry and hot and I think for a public golf course in a ritzy area like this part of Pleasanton, they've done a good job keeping the greens green. I myself don't care for golf, but the view was gorgeous on top of the golf course. The place doesn't necessarily lends itself that well to having large events, but a smaller wedding works. There's a restaurant/cafe type place inside the main building (the only building really), and then outside they have a large covered patio area where they have the wedding banquet. The bathrooms are in a separate building and could use some updating, but other than that the golf course's facilities have been kept up. The staff that handled all the food, open bar, prepping the place for the wedding (we arrived earlier than expected so we saw some of the set up take place), refilling food during the Hors d'Oeuvres, and overall interacting with guests were all very professional and friendly. It was a really hot day even in September, but thankfully as the sun set, nice breezes cool everything down. The layout of the place really was well thought out with all the tables, buffet, drinks and desserts wonderfully placed during the banquet. The food served buffet style was delicious and outstanding. Overall, it was a very nice wedding and we enjoyed it very much and a lot of it of course has to do with how well organized and prepared my cousin and his wife were in planning, but I also want to give credit to the professional, efficient, friendly and helpful staff at this golf course. I am impressed that it's a public and not private club golf course b/c the location is really just gorgeous and everything (besides the bathrooms) really was fancy enough to be like on a private golf course. Had a tournament here on Saturday. Course layout is great l, can be an epic course, complaints was the upkeep and the marshalls who should be keeping things in check. Divots weren't replaced, sands not racked that indeed did affect some shots some shots in our group and greens that were not repaired. The play was really slow from the groups ahead, was about a 5 1/2 hr round. I'll come back I'm sure. But some improvements should be taken for the quality, class and physical area of this golf course. read more

This golf course is located inside a neighborhood basically full of mansions. Very nice course. Fairway, bunkers, and greens are very well maintained. Every green if pretty fast and slopey. Very high quality golf carts with a gps and a map of the course. It also tells you the approximate yardage to the hole. Definitely one of my favorite courses I've played at. So we were walking off the box after hitting at the fourth hole ("at" being the operative word - the safest place for the hole to be was right where it was, seeing we sprayed our bullets everywhere but) and I got to thinking and it fell out of my mouth how different the world we were walking in that lovely morning was compared to the rest of it. We were walking with deer and turkey, dew-spattered shoes and silence mostly and half a world away people are fighting in tunnels and thugs shoot planes out of the air. And so it goes and your point is what Markus but still at that moment on that tee box for whatever reason it seemed kind of noteworthy. A 45 minute drive with no traffic from Oakland to your meditation. The course is well kept, the holes interesting and 400 yards harder from the blues. Beware - two temporary greens presently but they give you a $5 certificate for whatever so it isn't so bad and we exchanged said certificate for some very tasty food in the grill and it was all good. Get a midday tee time if you feel like bearing a symbolic burden for the brothers and sisters in the Middle East. Walk the course in the afternoon in July if you're needing a little heavy hot hair-shirt to make you feel better about missing church that morning or if there's no need for self-flagellation do as we did and hit your first shot at the crack of dawn. It's still hot by lunchtime, but not oppressively so and if you feel like taking a nap later no one should bust your balls about it because you've already done more in one day than most people do in three. read more

Let me start by saying, don't walk this course. Not unless you are an avid Adventure Race person. The setting for this course is majestic. Wild Turkeys, not the 101 proof kind, but the ones that make gobble gobble sounds. I booked for a single at 12:50 on a Sunday, course was busy but pace was good. I needed clubs, the rentals were Nike's, I chose to walk because I wanted the exercise, the course plays 6660 from the blues. Lots of elevation changes. Hole 8 resembles most roads in the Pennsylvania after the winter, there are most sand traps (pot holes) then fairway. Hole 11 is only about 360 yards but the green is somewhere in the range of where the captain turns off the fasten seatbelt sign when you fly. Hole 18 is a long par five, good luck getting there in 2. If you decided to walk there is a 300 foot climb to get back to the club house, I heard a rumor they are going to put a ski lift in soon. 3 water stations and rest rooms. Cool prairie dog type guys on 12. If you shank a ball to the left you get to see their small city. You could almost consider this a round of golf and a visit to the zoo. Would not hesitate to come back and play if I return to the Pleasanton area. One last note, their hot dogs are Texas sized, and the beverage cart hit us 3 times in a round. read more

Played here twice. Very beautiful & challenging course for the price you pay. Back 9 is much more difficult than front 9. Back 9 challenges you to use more irons off the tee box where front nine is a little longer and open. Highly suggest you play this course. Only draw back is not being able to drive your cart to your ball on every hole. Makes it inconvenient for those that aren't the best like myself. read more

I've played this course many times and have always enjoyed it. It's a spectacular golf course. However. I was there recently with some friends and was highly disappointed. It took 4.5 hours to golf the front 9 because of some really slow players ahead of us, and ahead of them was another really slow playing group. It was so bad that we ended up leaving at the 10th hole because we didn't want to spend another 4+ hours to finish what should've been a 5 hour or so event in total. Waiting 15-20 minutes every hole to tee off gets frustrating. We went to the casino instead and I ended up losing a lot of money that night because of this golf course. To top it off, they charged us $70 on the credit card a few days later (in addition to the $280 we already paid). When our attorney called, they told him it was because our 4th person didn't show up. That was the last straw for me. Won't be going back again, and I golf A LOT in the area. Would rather go to Wente or the Bridges where they treat me like a value instead of a money bag! read more

I decided to spend my lunch hour getting my brother in law a gift card for this Joint. I have to say it is pretty good looking. The employees at the clubhouse were super Friendly and helpful which is why I give a four star review! They even humored me when I joked about buying one gold ball for my brother in laws present! Let me elaborate... the GPS tells me to go to Happy Valley Road. That's cool, I am heading there from work in Pleasanton and I recall the direction I went to visit a friend that lives in the golf course (don't judge me, I can't afford to live there!) I exit 680 South and the GPS tells me to turn right like I expect. However, the sign tells me to to left. I follow my GPS and my past instincts. Fast forward to the turn around on Happy Valley Road with a sign that says there is no pass through to the golf course and that I must go back to Sycamore and here we are. This is a long review to tell you that I think the signs are put up by the rich people located off of Happy Valley Road. I do believe there is a gate that closed off the road around 9pm and I also do believe they paid to make nice Elite Yelpers like me get irritated enough to tell people gong to the golf course during the day to follow their GPS! read more

I really wanted to write this review to thank everyone at Callippe. We got married on 11.11.17 and Charissa and Devony were so extremely helpful. From the day we booked to the day of the wedding. Questions were answered promptly, everything was set up accordingly, if there was any mishaps I definitely didn't know because I'm sure they took care of It. The venue was beautiful and so perfect, I can't wait to see our pictures but the sunset made It all the more perfect. If your looking for an affordable venue, this would be it. This course is awesome, hard, fun, sad, happy, frustrated and elated all rolled into one course. The last two holes are crazy - don't even pull the driver out. Unfortunately our round was 6+ hours (the longest round in my twenty year career). But hey, I am not working right. The Restraunt was ok, just thought it was a little weird the would slap a couple of breakfast burritos on the table, really. No plate or fork - we are eating here. I ordered the eggs benedict, which was really good, but had to make sure it would come on a plate, not rolled up in tin foil. Definitely will be coming back though. read more

My goodness what is there to say about this course! It is so well kept. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. The starter has great insights on the course and can surely talk sports. The Marshall was hilarious. On one area for improvement. The greens were a little sloppy. Some of them still had remnants of the aeration, which made it a little tough to read the green and putt. While I can't blame the course for the washed out greens due to all the rain, the cart path only rule was a real pain. Not because it caused us a lot of walking, but because the signs and path were not clearly marked on the course on a few holes. The club house and accompanying restaurant, felt like an AGA spot. Happy to report everything looking and playing good out here, all greens fixed and course in good shape. All the carts come with handy GPS in them. Callippe is a real test because of the hills, fast greens and tough pin placements. You will need to hit downhill lies and sidehill lies, especially on the back. It's a nice mix of simple and tough holes. Tough: 7,9,10, 17,18. You need to score well on easy holes of 4,5,6. read more

I had my wedding here on 5/24/24 and absolutely loved it. Morgan and her team are fantastic, never made me feel like a bother with my million questions. Lots of food options and very reasonable prices. All my guest raved about the food and how awesome the staff was. I would choose Callippe over and over. They also do free family holiday events there which is a fun way to visit the venue before and after your wedding there. Receptions have a hard cut off of 10:30pm which was my only con, but after an evening of open bar, I feel it was a good cut off before people over indulged. They offer so much with your venue pricing and cut out a ton of the small worries for me. Morgan is very detail oriented and took note of all my details so my decor was set up perfectly. The view is breathtaking and will definitely wow your guest. I wish golfers were a little more respectful. We had hooting and hollering during our vows.
