Calumet Bakery is the bomb dot com! Really Great!! I went in to order red velvet donuts for a friends birthday. The staff was so nice, they took them in the back and wrote the birthday girls initial on each of the donuts. Advice- don't walk in and get caught up in the delicious smell of donuts, cakes, and cookies' and forget to take a number......if so, you'll be waiting a long time! I absolutely LOVE Calumet Bakery. I first tried them for my daughter's first birthday cake. I wanted a cake that was nontraditional and they satisfied my needs! I had them make her cake into a crayon box and they EXCEEDED my expectations. Besides the appearance of the cake it was DELICIOUS! I have since been back, but just for quick snacks (cookies, and single slices of cake). There desserts never disappoint! The 3 milk cake and the Oreo cake with Oreo filling are to die for! The owner is in frequently and really cares about customer service. That place is always busy, lots of help, never a long wait, and always something for the last minute! Zero stars!!!!!!!!! So I was recommended by a friend to try Calumet Bakery. I called them and told them that I wanted a whole 12 inch cake for my sons half birthday. Half lemon preserves and half strawberry preserves. I sent them a picture of the Mickey Mouse cake design. I wanted to pick the cake up Saturday at 10 a.m. When I get to the bakery they showed me the cake and they literally gave me a half of cake. The lady placing the order decided to do what she wanted. They didn't care that they messed up and was nonchalant about the situation. I literally told them over the phone and over the email that I wanted a whole 12 inch cake. So we have his celebration and the cake was disgusting. It tasted like cornbread and was heavy and dry. The filling was indescribable and I literally could cut slices of frosting instead of cake. I have never seen such terrible customer service and a terrible cake. read more

Calumet Bakery is extremely overrated. Throughout the years, they have gotten progressively worse and unreasonably overpriced. I have ordered several cakes and cupcakes from them, and the cake is just o.k. They use too much icing/filling and it overpowers the cake-which is just substandard. I think they stay busy because they accept Link and they do actually have pretty designs. My biggest issue with this company is they never respond to e-mails and the manager never returns calls, as promised. I work with a small school in the area and we contacted the bakery for 25 cupcakes to be donated for graduation. In exchange, the school would receive free advertisements. The owner never responded to our repeated phone calls nor e-mails. How rude! We are some of the very community members that helped build this business. What a way to treat the community you serve! Just a few weeks ago, I went in to order cake push-pops. I tried ordering via e-mail, but again, I got no response. I was told the bakery didn't have the supplies, but I could go purchase my own. I was quoted 3 different prices -- finally ended up paying $2.00 per push pop. I had to pay $15.00 for the supplies. The push-pops were cute--but really overpriced, considering I had to purchase my own supplies. I could have gone somewhere else, but they were close and we needed them. This is probably the reason why most people shop here. No quality, no customer service--just convenient. read more

We had a wonderful experience with Calumet Bakery! We did a small 10" round cake for our wedding. It was decorated like a tree stump and had chocolate raspberry on the inside. They even added our initials "carved" into the tree and a few flowers at the base. The cake tasting process was wonderful too! We felt like we knew exactly what we wanted after our tasting session. They give you huge pieces to try - come prepared to take home the leftovers! The only thing I would say is be careful if your wedding is on a Sunday. We got married on a Sunday, so we had to pick up the cake on Saturday (since the store is closed on Sunday). The line was crazy long to pick up - wrapped around the building, and even though we had a specified time to pick up, we still had to wait a very long time! Try to do delivery if possible! I just want to share my experience to help other brides avoid the headache. We have been in contact with Calumet Bakery for over a year and a half (due to covid rescheduling) with the understanding that we wanted delivery. After asking what deposit we owe, we were told just to wait until our cake tasting. Then, after several attempts to schedule our cake tasting, we were told to wait 1-2 months before the wedding. Well, today we had our cake tasting scheduled and all of the sudden they decide to tell us they cannot deliver our wedding cake because never put a deposit down. Thankfully, we found a new bakery who has stated they've inherited several of calumet's unhappy clients. Save your time and don't go to Calumet Bakery. read more

Ordered my mother's 80th birthday cake in the shape of the number 80 using cupcakes. This cake was ordered 2 months ahead of time and fully paid for. I arrived at 10:15 on Sunday 07/16 and my cake could not be found. Finally it is located but it's not ready, what do you want written on it they ask? Now I have to leave and come back, they call and say it's ready. I get there and it is not ready. When it is finally ready they bring out and it is Christmas themed OMG!!! And the cupcakes are mini cupcakes for $175.00. The manager threw in a dozen donuts but that didn't help. The cake was just plain ugly and small. Never again read more

Nice cakes TERRIBLE SERVICE. I went earlier today to place a cake order for my daughter's birthday in December. I took a number and my ticket was called. As I am consulting with the rep she told me that I would have to get a consultation if I wanted at a three-tier cake I said OK that is fine my sister came in with me and she requested a three-tier cake as well, they told her that they can take her order right then and there. I asked the lady politely why is the other Lady able to take my sisters cake order for a three tier cake but I have to wait and she said I don't know I'm not taking your order because I'm not allowed to without an appointment I said OK that is fine I will go to the other young lady because she seems to know what she is doing she told me to shut the fuck up and how dare I tell her to do her job. I asked her politely who she was talking to and she said you and told me to shut the fuck up again from there I bumped into her and ask them to get a manager. While waiting on the manager I apologize to the other lady and tell her that I did not mean any harm but I'm not going to let anyone just tell me to shut the fuck up. Fast forward the manager came out and she did not want to hear anything that I had to say she told me that if I push someone that I need to get out of her establishment she did not say anything to her worker for telling me to shut the fuck up! I am a paying customer who spent over $1000 in the last year at their bakery. From here on out I will NEVER RETURN! read more

THIS is a bakery! Great value for the dollar. Cake slices are huge and affordable. Cake is amazing and not over sugary. Some places you can crunch the sugar and this is not one of those places. I called to place an order for a pistachio chocolate mousse cake for my cousins birthday. I was told that the bakery no longer makes this cake, even though it is still available on their menu. I was also told that even if i placed the order first thing on a Monday morning, that the cake would not be available for the party on Tuesday evening. My cousin was super bummed when hearing this. Low and behold, when I showed up to the Tuesday party, she had a pistachio chocolate mousse cake...from CALUMET BAKERY! When I told her the unfortunate news from my call with the bakery, she decided to call and double check. When the bakery learned that I had already called to order this cake, my cousin was told that "it depends who you ask". Not only was she able to order the cake, but it would also be ready a day later! I have been a customer of this bakery for years! Over time, I have dealt with a lot of employees with real bad attitudes and my last encounter was the icing on the cake. I will be taking my business elsewhere and I recommend you do too. This is what happened to my baby shower cake my sister ordered. I always have issues with this bakery. If i order in advance my cakes are never ready. I use this bakery for myself and for the business i work for. In September i ordered a cake for my job 2 days in advance but when i picked it up it wasnt even decorated. I recently had a bad experience this Saturday. I ordered and prepaid for a cake for my sisters baby shower 10 days in advance. I was told the cake would be ready Saturday 10/8 @ 8am @ the Chicago location. When i arrived my cake wasnt even there. I was told they could have the cake by 2pm.... but my sisters baby shower starts at 1pm. I asked if i could pick it up @ the Lansing location. I was told it would be ready by noon. WHAT IS THE POINT OF PRE-ORDERING A CAKE IF I CAN'T GET IT WHEN PROMISED. Long story short.... they're not getting my money again. Im looking for a new bakery. I went to get a cake that they already had made for a co-workers birthday...the cake was fine , the people there however are rude and have horrible costumer service. Five ladies behind the counter and not one of them greets you when you walk in...apart from that, they go to the back in a group and literally just stared at me through the door window. Like what are you guys looking at? seriously!!!
