I'd tried to come here once before last year, right when they said they opened at like 10 am. But they were not open and I waited about 10 minutes after - still no one and had to leave disappointed. So just beware - hopefully they got better at that. Anyways this time we came the night before to get sandwiches for the next day. And there was a little bit of a line. They also serves some hot dishes, in addition to sandwiches so there were plenty of people partaking in that. I just got a couple of 4A's - grilled pork sandwiches. I also usually try to get the special or combo sandwiches with a few different meats inside but didn't see any on the menu here. Sandwich was ok - we had them the next day. My bf did note the bread was kinda thick or needed to but cut in deeper to fit more filling and meat inside. I agree, I was left with a lot of extra bread after a lot of bites. But the pork was tasty and filled with the pickled carrots and daikon and a couple jalapenos. Needed some pate bc it was a little dry but fine. Each sandwich was $4.75, which seems a bit pricey. I think I'm used to just a dollar less. But fine with supporting local shops. Oh and we also tried the meat pies and the egg rolls. We also had these the next day and they were ok. I've had this place bookmarked for a really long time. I'm glad I finally got to try it. The service here was great, and I really like the nice lady in the front. - BBQ PORK SANDWICH ($3): Pretty good, but the meat confused me. At the other Vietnamese sandwich places I go to, usually the BBQ pork is reddish and similar to the Chinese char siu meat. I think the best part of this sandwich was definitely the soft fluffy bread. I'm a carb freak, and I love fresh bread. The meat to picked veggies to bread ratios were quite standard, so I'm not sure what some people are complaining about. - SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS ($4) : Pretty good too, but nothing spectacular. I've definitely had better spring rolls elsewhere, so I'd definitely skip this next time, especially since I could order another sandwich with that price! - VIETNAMESE ICED COFFEE ($2.75) : This was wayy too sweet for me. There was too much condensed milk, so next time I would probably ask them to put less in. I actually used my nespresso machine to make a shot of espresso to add to it. It tasted much better with the extra shot, but then again I usually take my coffee black, so my taste might be different from most. Side note, for those of you complaining that the ice coffee was not full, that's how Vietnamese coffee is supposed to be. It's a shot or so of espresso with condensed milk served over lots of ice. You're supposed to sip it slowly and wait for the ice to melt and dilute it. The lady at the front was really nice and warned me not to drink the coffee too fast. The goi cuon were EXTREMELY FRESH... pliant, chewy, rice rolls... not enough shrimp (as always) , and bit too much green herbs for padding. I live in Santa Cruz, where banh mi are not easy to come by, so when I'm over in Silicon Valley, my go to is a large Viet Namese sandwich chain. But this time I decided to try something different, and I'm so glad I did! I loved the mom and pop (literally) feel of this shop. Packed with all kinds of interesting Viet Namese baked goods and other interesting treats, the shop is far from the sterile atmosphere of the chain sandwich shops. I ordered the BBQ pork, because that's what I always get, and I was both surprised and pleased to find that the pork was not colored with artificial red dye, but was coated with a delicious barbecue sauce. The bread was perfect, crunchy on the outside and tender inside, and the flavors of the meat and veggies blended together perfectly. I also ordered one of the sesame buns. It was toward the end of the day, so I got a discount, but it was the best sesame bun I'd ever had. I will definitely go back to Cam Hung if I'm ever in the area again. read more

The bread is literally perfect from the crispy outside to the soft inside of the bread. Umm... so I didn't really catch the vibe other people had at this banh mi shop. I ordered a combination of viet deli meats (which was surprisingly not on the menu), and I wasn't very impressed. For starters, the sandwich really lacked any substance for the $3 ish dollars I am used to paying. The fact that you have to order "double meats" for the extra dollar just means they're not giving you enough to begin with! In addition, I just thought the sandwich combination wasn't good. It tasted weird, lacking the balance between salty meats, soft bread, and crunchy radishes / carrots. It didn't taste very authentic, and even though I'm not Vietnamese, I've had a good deal of homemade Viet sandwiches. This just didn't satisfy the craving. I am also angry with the fact that they don't even put the amazing mayo I am used to getting at my regular place! That mayo really makes the sandwich magnitudes better, and they clearly had it. However, you probably had to pay extra! Boo. I will speak, however, for the egg roll I had! It was a pretty good egg roll (4 stars) due to it being super fresh? Not sure. But it was pretty worth the extra 75 cents - $1. Yes, the space is very limited, so don't expect to bring your entire fam here for a banh mi party or anything! I was turned on to Vietnamese sandwiches in New York, which have two of the best I have ever tasted. This place was pretty good (especially for $2.50 per sandwich), but I think lacked a certain quality to make it great. I got the bbq pork, which wasn't overly fatty (which pork can be) and was pretty flavorful, but could have been more some. I also got the shrimp and pork spring rolls, which were pretty bland, even when generously dipped in the peanut sauce. Overall, a good, quick and cheap lunch, but not as amazing as I've had in the past. There's no place to really sit here, so be ready to take your food to-go. read more

Long time customer until I saw how they treated my situation of a hair baked into the bread, after I brought it to their attention, requesting a new sandwich. The lady takes it and returns it fairly quick...too quick; to have made me a new sandwich. So my hopes are instantly lower to where I'm about ready to bounce, but I'm hungry so I peep it out.. I examine the bread and sure enough it's the same sandwich..Seeing that it was just PINCHED OFF in the location of the hair. The short: cheap and delicious hole-in-the-wall place This place is really a hole-in-the-wall. If you're driving along Wolfe, you're bound to miss it especially if you're not looking for it. You might even miss it if you are looking for it! It's on the left side, when turning from Wolfe. If you're the hipster who loves everything to be modern and clean and spacious, don't come here. So glad I took a chance and tried this place out. It's a little bit of a trek from my work in Santa Clara but I make the drive over here because it's that good. It's a hole in a wall, family owned joint AND they take credit cards. I don't eat meat, and they have 4 different veg Banh mis here. I recommend the 12D, it has some sort of mock vegan sliced meat in it and I always ask for extra veggies. Top it off with that spicy mayo sauce and you're in for the best sandwich. Great value and fresh food, I love that they have bun (vermicelli noodle) plates to go in addition to the usual banh mi. They are generous with the portions and consistently deliver on flavor. Some of my favorites include: 11C noodle plate - served with different types of Vietnamese sausage and grilled pork, fresh greens and mint with peanuts (can request without, they serve it wrapped up on the side) and fish sauce, with an egg roll. Fresh, savory, and light. A perfect summer meal. I would request the special Vietnamese sausage, otherwise they will give you an egg roll instead. Shrimp and tofu summer roll wraps - these are not always out on the counter, they are more of a special request. But I love getting this vs. the traditional pork and shrimp wraps. Their peanut sauce is good, not too spicy, just the right mix of hoisin, peanut sauce and chili sauce. Shredded Beef Banh Mi - this is also another favorite, and I find myself getting this because the beef is moist and different than what I've seen at other Vietnamese places. This was an outstanding banh mi! I got mine with extra meat and vegetables, and the flavor was quite good. The bread had the right texture, both externally - a bit of bite - and internally - warm and soft. For banh mi, where most parts of the sandwich are pre-packaged (pate, sausage, pickled vegetables), the portion that's most often made in-house (the buns) really set good sandwiches apart. A really local shop with good food and friendly service ! The best part about this shop is the pickled veggies they serve in the bahn mi. We ordered the fried tofu sandwich and the grilled pork sandwich with Vietnamese coffee. The sandwiches were pretty good in size and I would definitely call them value for money! My best friend got her oil changed nearby and I was hungry. She suggested Lee's sandwich but I wanted to give a non-franchised mom & pop shop a go instead and came upon this place through yelp~ Sandwiches here are $3.75, pretty average, not too expensive.. but not cheap. The guy at the register said only #1, #13, and one more came with pate. We got two sandwiches and split it. 4A thit nuong (grilled pork) and the 4B xa xiu (bbq pork). The bbq pork was okay. Definitely liked the thit nuong more. It's different. Their thit nuong is marinated with lemon grass and taste like it's mixed with some curry as well. Quite yummy! Bread was on point too! Crunchy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. We dined in and the bestfriend also got their pandan soymilk, that was $1.75~ it was nice and sweet, I thought the pandan flavor was subtle. I felt like the sandwich was a little dry, but nothing mooching off her soymilk didn't fix. :) The shop is small and offers seating for about 10-15 people max. They offer smoothies, several banh mi options, two rice plate options, snacks, and vietnamese sandwich shop stuff (nem, che, goi, cha lua). I usually pay $3 for banh mi, but since phu yen closed and is now a different banh mi place, I'm forced to find a new place because I am not paying $4 for banh mi unless I'm desperate or it's not your average kind of banh mi. Needed a quick bite to eat after going to the doctors and a vendor during my company lunch. I stopped by this place since it was close by to my doctors and Banh Mi sounded like a delicious quick meal. Living in San Jose all my life, I am surrounded by delicious Vietnamese restaurants/fast food locations. This place has a small lot and I would say to avoid it during peak hours, very small shop at a big intersection. I would say that the Banh Mi is okay here, nothing special. The pickled veggies were really sour, skimpy on the cucumber slices and the grilled pork that I ordered was really salty. The bread was the soft bread, but okay. I've definitely experienced better back in the SJ area. Phat Tri is the best when it comes to Banh Mi or Thanh Huong, hands down. For a quick bite, this was okay for the area. But the Banh Mi in SJ is where its at. They also take card, a step up for most sandwich places though. Friendly staff, its hard to hear orders sometimes, so you should stand in the front until you receive your order. read more

I think i'm addicted to this place... I was ordering food for my boyfriend and friend and I was amazed by how delicious everything was (especially for the price.) I placed my order on yelp for pickup and I got the grilled pork sandwich, fried tofu sandwich w/ egg, and the pork, egg and steamed rice plate. While I was there I also bought a coconut jelly dessert, and another jelly dessert with lychee and jack fruit. The grilled pork sandwich was amazing. The bread was soft, but crispy and not the type that cuts the roof of your mouth. The pickled carrots and radish even had a lot of flavor which was unexpected. The pork, sauces, and bread were delicious and the meat was not greasy like I'd expect, I almost thought it was beef for a second. The coconut jelly dessert is my absolute favorite, it's made using very simple ingredients - coconut water, coconut pieces, water, salt, sugar, etc. It was very refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness. The other jelly was also pretty good, it was green and had coconut milk, assorted jelly and fresh lychee and jack fruit inside. I would totally recommend these and I'm curious to try all the other sweets in the refrigerated section. I was so in love with the sandwiches here, especially for the price of $4.75 that I came back the next day and ordered the pork hash sandwich. This was also very good, but a little greasier than I'd like. It has much more flavor but I still prefer the grilled pork sandwich. I also ordered the vietnamese coffee (cà phê đá) and holy cow, I'm so wired. I only drank 1/5th of it and I already feel like running a mile. It's so concentrated that I had to wait until the ice melted a bit more before I could drink it. I also have a pounding headache from all the caffeine which to some is a turn off but to me, it's just right. Jokes aside, this coffee taste amazing. It's a bit too strong for my taste (like 3x stronger than most vietnamese coffee) so I'll have to water it down but they make it so well, I'm not sure where this one sits on my cà phê đá rankings but it's up there. Aside from their tasty sandwiches, desserts, crack coffee, and assortment of delicious Asian snacks I would like to mention that the ladies working here were so sweet that I don't mind turning this into a full blown addiction. I live right across the street from this shop. I grew up eating Vietnamese sandwhiches and these are pretty good actually. The only turn off is the price. They sell for $3.75 each when I usually go to Huong Lan up down in Tully, SJ. They have theirs for $2.50-$3. And may I include that they top theirs with more fillings. The banh cuon was not particularly good sadly. The noodles all stuck together making it impossible to lift just one banh cuon up without ripping it or the ones attached to it. Quite a bummer. The place is teeny tiny, with Vietnamese groceries, a few table and a deli all crammed into one. That said, their Vietnamese sandwiches are the absolute bomb and you can't beat the prices! For about 4 bucks, you get a fresh and crispy French roll, packed with flavorful meat, mayo, jalapeños and pickled carrot and daikon! So, so good! I usually go for the grilled chicken, but the bbq pork or ham with patê are also great. They also serve spring rolls, egg rolls, sesame buns, rice plates and Vietnamese iced coffe. The lady that mans the register is always very friendly and your sandwich is made to order and ready within minutes! The place could pass as the pantry for a big house with foodstuff, etc. lining most of the walls. I picked up the grilled pork banh mi to go. The cost (~$4) is a steal! Heck, getting a banh mi pretty much anywhere is usually a steal. The flavors were spot on! So, why the low rating? It was because of the bread! It wasn't crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. It was a chewy mess which tells me it was either old or just the way they normally get it. Thanks to Yelp, and my craving for some Banh Mi, I searched this place to realize it's not to far off from my home and on the way to work. Stumbled into a corner plaza with this gem in it. The place is very small and hole in the wallish! Despite judging the book by it's cover I decided to try it out. I ordered the 4B, sweet barbecued pork and one egg roll. The lady who took my order was very sincere and nice versus the "hurry up, order, eat and get out" Vietnamese ladies over on the east side of SJ. Very reminiscent of the service at Ca Mau in ESSJ at a togo level. My sandwich was full of flavor and not bland at all. Had crisp, lightly pickled veggies, sweet but a little bit dry bbq pork, nice kick from the jalapenos and the bread was crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. At $3/sandwich how can you go wrong? The Cha Gio wasn't worth the 75 cent price tag. It was small and just ok. Overall I had a great exoerience from start to finish and would recommend this to anyone trying to go to Lee's Sandwiches, that place is disgusting compared it's locale. Cam Hung is a small Vietnamese sandwich shop. It can be considered a hole in the wall joint. It's hidden and pretty easy to miss if you're going there for the first time. It's diagonally across the street from the Safeway plaza. They offer your typical, variety of Vietnamese sandwiches. My favorite is the grilled pork (banh mi thit nuong). It's simple, tasty and the meat is savory. The pork roll (banh mi cha lua) also has good flavors coming out of it. The also carry small rice and rice noodle plates, but I haven't tried it yet.
