Visited Pho Lyfe's San Jose location with a friend back in November and really enjoyed it. Their beef pho was excellent. Even the small size was huge and incredibly filling. The broth was rich, flavorful, and comforting, and the portion size definitely did not disappoint. I ordered my rare beef on the side, which let me keep it not overcooked. Adding this review now since the San Jose location has closed, but it was absolutely worth a visit while it was around. They moved locations! The last location was close to home and it was my go to spot. There are a few (welcomed) changes, or upgrades dare I say? However, you may want to consider checking the map first because, google maps was a bit wonky and tried to get me turn into the McDonald's drive through. The menu has expanded! They have a beef rib pho now that caught my eye. The prices are around $17-19, but the portions are massive. There are a handful more appetizers as well. The broth has so much depth. Chicken pho, beef pho, bun bo hue... all the broths are great. There is so much more space and definitely getting more foot traffic than the last spot. Currently, beer is not available despite it being on the menu. A bit further for me now, but still my go to spot west of SJC (airport). read more

I had to find a new pho place since my old one was under new management and the food has gone so down in quality I could not eat there anymore! The ambiance is simple and tried and true. No frills with decoration here! The young man takes your order without writing anything down and gets your order right! The prices are affordable as well! Stopped by this spot after a long day of sourcing without looking anything up. We were nearby and just needed something to eat before heading back into the city. The location is in a plaza with a good-sized parking lot shared with a market and a few other restaurants, so finding a spot was easy. It was a warm day and we were hoping to cool off inside, but it felt stuffy since the air conditioning was not working. The menu is simple and easy to navigate with all the basic dishes. I was happy to see bo bia, one of my favorite fresh rolls. It tasted good, but the portion was small and the dipping sauce was watery and lacking flavor. The rare steak pho had a nice broth and a solid portion of noodles, though I wish there had been more meat. The combination rice plate came out big and had a good mix of items. Was able to add two egg rolls as well! I enjoyed most of it, but the pork chop leaned too sweet and could have used more char for balance. The food here works well for people who want something quick and simple. The staff were efficient and you pay at the front when you are done. There are signs about it, but some people missed them and waited at their tables trying to grab the attention of the front staff. Once your food arrives, they let you enjoy your meal without interruption. One of my favorite parts was the huge TV playing WWE. Definitely a must go place during a rainy cold day. The pho is really good and tasty and great portion size even for Small. Came here for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty packed due to the weather but was was seated within 15 minutes. Their wings are really good and definite must if you want a small bite prior to your pho. You can tell they are fresh and flavorful! Easily shared between 3 people. Pho Lyfe is in a convenient location next to a Korean market with plenty of parking and it's very spacious inside. It's quite dark though and the booth we chose had a huge rip in the seats. Service here isn't the best, a bit spotty, and I love to order a side of white onions and that didn't get relayed and had to ask for it twice after I got my bowl of pho. However, the pho broth was piping hot which is a huge plus for me. Also for a small it is a very good portion, lots of noodles and plenty of meat. Old school WWF reruns on the TV, bright lighting, mirrors throughout. Service is really lax. Makes for a nice lunch before/after a grocery run. I was greeted and seated immediately, ordered large Pho Dac Biet and it arrived within minutes. Broth was piping hot, meats were tasty, noodles cooked right. No red flags. Soup was a bit MSG heavy but honestly really not as bad as recent reviewers are making it out to be. Better than Tay Ho, House of Pho, VPho, Phonomenal, and Pho Lynn. Not on the same level as Pho Lovers, Pho San Jose, or Pho This Way at the time of this review. 03/21/25 As someone that eats pho nearly every week, this is a respectable bowl at a moderate price. I used to work in this area and often came here for their Bun Bo Hue, aka spicy beef noodle soup. It's not the best Bun Bo Hue but the best in Santa Clara. I always substitute the thick noodles for the pho noodles. If you haven't tried this, I highly recommend it. I've had their pho and it's okay. One thing to point out is that they don't use real sriracha. They use this off-brand, and it's super salty and gross. There is one guy that works here that is super lazy. He walks around moping all day, always on his phone, and ignores customers as they walk in. Chilly night = pho cravings! Unfortunately, it did not hit the spot. I got the pho ga, which was bland and flavorless and the chicken was ridiculously overcooked and dry! There were only a few thin slices of onion to be found. Even after I doused it with extra lemon and sriracha, it barely had any flavor. You can choose fresh or dry noodles. I chose dry and they were still stuck together when it was served. Some never un-stuck throughout the meal. In 7.5 years, I've never seen the fiancé bust a bead while eating. The bun bo hue was so spicy, he was dripping sweat. The beef also wasn't tender. Needless to say, he couldn't finish the regular sized bowl, and this is a human garbage can we're talking about. The food here is actually really good -- flavorful broth, fresh ingredients, and solid portions. I'd definitely come back for the pho based on taste alone. What really disappointed me was the service. I came in with a group of Latino and Black friends. There were also two Asian groups in the restaurant. I noticed those groups asked for to-go bowls and weren't required to pay upfront. But when we asked, the employee (Asian guy wearing a puffer jacket) told us we had to pay first. That didn't sit right with me. I spoke up about it, and he just stayed quiet. The inconsistency made the situation feel unfair and uncomfortable. This place is a little hole in the wall. Its in a strip mall adjacent from Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara. There was plenty of parking when we went on Saturday for lunch time. They have various dishes but we went for the Pho. We had the spicy beef Pho and 2 other varieties of the Pho soup. It was very delicious! It was hot and the broth was just soooo good. They briught it iut with all the fixings and it was great! We also had the Passionfruit drink which is a ust have for me and it was the best! The service was quick and friendly. When we got in there were a few people sitting and eating. Then when we were seated they had a rush of customers show up. People now about this place and they come here for the Pho. They have other dishes in case Pho isn't your thing. You can also pick the type of noodle, they have fresh noodles too. The noodles and meat of the Bún bò Huế are good, but the broth tastes like regular pho broth with some Bún bò Huế spice seasoning added instead of broth made for Bún bò Huế specifically. The coconut smoothie reminds me of coconut ice cream with a good amount of sugar added. The service is typical of an Asian restaurant, and you pay at the cashier in the back. Friends and I stopped by one night when I came to visit town. They weren't busy when we got there, but soon had a bit of customers come in for dining in. They also had a lot of customers coming to pick up mobile orders, so they really were quite busy. With that being said, we did wait a bit for drinks to be served, our orders to be taken and for our orders to come out of the kitchen. We ordered 2 orders of BBQ pork chop and rice plates and a couple different pho bowls (I'm sorry I forgot which ones were ordered!). I really enjoyed my BBQ pork chop rice plate. It was tender and well done (as requested). I actually finished it quite quickly because I was famished. The friends who ordered pho bowls were really satisfied with them. One of them actually bought another order to take home. They have a lot of tables and chairs for customers who want to dine in. It can get quite loud if there's a lot of diners, but it's fairly average in noise level if there's not too many people in there. Their fried egg rolls were also yummy and reminded me of Filipino lumpia with its wrapper texture and taste. Their chicken pho was tasty and had lots of shredded chicken pieces. Their broth is bold with enough salt and bone taste. I highly recommend pouring in their house made chili oil into the pho; this is one of the best chili oils I've had. Their chili oil has notes of lemongrass! My wife has their classic pho which was also delicious and full of flavor. Service was friendly and fast, giving it another plus. Unfortunately, I found the prices to be on the higher end for pho places in the area and portions were smaller in comparison to competitors as well. I've had a lot of viet food and would say this was nothing special. The pho broth had decent flavor but appeared cloudy in color vs the clearer color you'll normally get with a good pho broth. Visited for lunch for the first time since it moved from Homestead, replacing Pho. No. 1 (who remembers that one?); we ordered popcorn chicken, Phở P4 Tái Nam (rare steak and flank), and C3 BBQ beef short rib and rice. Popcorn chicken pieces were very small; maybe that was the standard size when the snack first debuted in the US but most offer larger pieces now. At Pho Lyfe since the pieces were small, I didn't have much chicken taste, and the fried batter covering was rather thick and hard. It is served with a side of Thai chili sauce. I would not order this again. The pho broth was decent, with maybe an even stronger flavor than what was offered at the old location. The meat tasted a bit dry though As for the short rib, the rice plate comes with two slices. I found the marinade to be uneven; one piece had a sweeter taste (too sweet for my preference but most places are too sweet for me) than the other. Overall it was good but maybe not worth $19 (probably I would think the same of any other place with a similar offering on the menu). I didn't notice any big changes to menu other than the addition of popcorn chicken; I think the price did go up slightly since the move. It doesn't look like many renovations were done to the store; the bathroom could be in better condition. It also seems like it isn't as crowded with tables as before, but there are still a lot of tables. Standard service (?) and experience for a Phở place, if you'd like a water refill, ask.
