My non-vegan friend ordered the chow mein and was blown away by the freshness of the veggies and the aromatic shitake mushrooms used. The noodles were lightly fried to a crisp and not super greasy. Not sure how they fry their foods and not have them turn out heavy and oily but this place does it right! Today, I went with the combo vermicelli bowl. This can be found at most pho and Vietnamese restauratns but what I particularly love about how Happy Flower creates theirs is that it includes shaved taro and fried shallots. It makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the overall flavor. Be sure to ask for their off-menu beverages. It's not always posted but Happy Flower offers an Ube Crema coffee which is AMAZING! If you love ube and coffee, this is its lovechild. You will be very happy you ordrered this! Dropped by Happy Flower Eatery & Boba for lunch today. It's kind of hidden at the end of El Camino, and since there's not much else in the plaza, parking is plentiful. I decided to sit outside, so I can't say much about the interior, but the staff were super friendly. We ordered a ton of food and every single bite was amazing! For our appetizers, we went with Vegan Squid and Papaya Salad. The vegan squid really reminded me of fried calamari rings; it's probably the best plant-based calamari I've ever had! It's got that perfect crispy outside, soft inside, and tastes great. While I really enjoyed the squid, the Papaya Salad was definitely my favorite starter. The vegan lemongrass beef they added is super tasty! It's packed with flavor, the veggies are nice and crisp, and the sauce is so refreshing. For our main dishes, we chose Garlic Fried Rice, Soft Chow Mein, and Garlic Chicken. As expected, everything was delicious and packed with flavor. The garlic taste in the rice and chicken was top notch! I would totally order them again. The Soft Chow Mein was more brothy than I expected but it tasted really good. The only note I have is the tofu in it could've been more flavorful, it wasn't bad but everything else packed such a punch it stood out to me. We also tried the Ube Cream Coffee and Fun in the Sun drinks. The ube cream was yummy, but I'm not a coffee person so I only had a sip. The Fun in the Sun drink was just right, incredibly refreshing, the passion fruit and strawberry were on point creating a perfect mix of tart and sweet. I'm not a fan of overly sweet drinks so it definitely hit, especially on a hot summer day. I usually go to Green Lotus, but I might've been converted to a Happy Flower girlie today. My friend and I were looking for something light to have for dinner before getting dessert. Since it was so hot out, we wanted something that was cool to eat. After looking around Yelp, we decided to try this place out as they had some spring rolls that looked good. When we got here, it was relatively empty, but filled out quickly after we sat down. We ended up ordering the rolls sampler with a ton of different rolls. Each of the rolls was good and we enjoyed the whole plate. Service was good and everyone was friendly. Our waters were filled when needed. We both said we would be back for the rolls again. As this restaurant is vegan/vegetarian, it would be a nice change of pace from our regular spots. 1 star off is for the plastic wrap around the rolls - while I understand it's to keep them fresh until eaten, it would be better to remove before serving to prevent accidental ingestion of the plastic and would just look better. I've tried many spots in my vegan journey and didn't expect to come across a new favorite in the last few months. Portions were great for every dish and the flavors were all there. This came with two each of the spring, summer, autumn, winter rolls as well as four fried egg rolls and three different sauces. Most of the rolls were fine, but my favorite was the autumn (I think! The spring rolls made with soy protein along with the peanut sauce was full of flavor. It was my first time having soy protein so I wasn't sure what to expect. The food was definitely piping hot, though! Partner and I got a vegan curry with roti (4 different carb options!!) and Malaysian noodles. Both were packed with veggies. The vegan curry was essentially a very good panang curry with tofu and vegetables, and they provided a good amount of roti on the side. The Malaysian noodles were kind of bland at first, but when I ate the leftovers later on in the day, I noticed the flavors had actually developed more. Noodle texture was good! We also got some summer rolls and fried squid to share. The fried squid hit the mark in terms of taste, and I enjoyed that the "meat" inside was soft, since you know, it's not actual squid. I'd skip the summer rolls next time though. I can't say anything about the boba because I didn't order it, but my friends said they liked it. Portion sizes were great, and so was the service. Stopped in with my husband on our way back from an appointment and Happy Flower did not disappoint! I had it bookmarked as a place I wanted to try since it's all vegetarian/vegan (and I'm a vegetarian with an egg allergy). I had the pho with Beyond Beef, and it was delicious! I might see if I can get extra mushrooms added next time (because I am a big time mushroom lover, and they had king oyster mushrooms which are one of my favorites), but the broth was wonderfully flavorful and it comes with the thicker rice noodles that I prefer to vermicelli. They give you jalapenos on the side of you want to make it a little spicy, too! My husband had the Saigon Sandwich, which is essentially a banh mi, with the eggplant and tofu, and he really liked it (and it looked really good, too, but he wouldn't let me steal a bite, LOL). We also got a jasmine milk tea with boba, which was good and not overly sweet, but the boba are definitely much more soft than I like (I prefer more QQ chew), so I might opt for like jelly or a different topping next time. The location itself is small and cute, with a lovely wooden carved wall by the entrance, and inexplicably a few random Christmas decorations even though it's August. The workers are friendly but pretty quiet, and even though they take your order at your table and bring the food to you, you go up to the register to pay when you're done. There seems to be a QR code menu at each of the tables, and maybe you can order from there, but I didn't try it since I prefer looking at the physical menu. The music was pleasant and not overly loud, and incidentally piano renditions of Ghibli movies music, which we recognized once we sat down as the very piece my husband (aka. Mr. Piano) is learning right now, "Town with a View of the Sea" from Kiki's Delivery Service, so that was a lovely little coincidence :) A lot of things on the menu looked really good, so we will definitely be back!
