We have been away from Bellingham for two years, and are finding all kinds of goodies waiting for us on our return home for the summer. Camber has now joined my list of favorite Bellingham coffee shops (there were previously only two: the Black Drop and Avellino). Love the space: lots of glass and light. Love the service: friendly and knowledgable. The coffee is quite good. The food menu is quirky, but generally appealing. It makes me laugh even to admit that I ordered the avocado toast, since it is one of the easiest things in the world to make at home and has such an of-the-moment quality that it already feels passé to see it on a menu, but dang that was a good version of avocado toast! I was less excited about the soup I ordered there another visit, which tasted a bit like spicy water. read more

I've been underwhelmed the several times I've come here. I really want each time to be better than the last, because the location is good and the space is lovely, although out of place and lacking originality - it feels like yet another Portland or Seattle coffeeshop. I went solo and was going to order at the bar. Was incorrectly told that the quiche was gluten-free. Then, because I was ordering food I was led into the dining area and seated at a table. I pulled out my laptop (it was a Tuesday morning, there were about 2 people in the dining area) and was promptly told the dining area was a no laptop zone and I needed to sit at the bar at the front of the shop and order at the bar. I paid $3.50 for some Earl Grey tea w/no refills. The food was decent but underseasoned and because I was sitting at the bar where people are working with laptops and typically not dining, there was no salt or condiments. A manager was sitting near me and one employee was gossiping to them the whole time I was eating. The people who work there come off hipsterish and I found it spendy, snotty and unwelcoming. I will stick with my local favs, Mt Bakery, Temple Bar, the Black Drop, Avellino. There are more than enough cafes and coffeeshops that are way less pretentious. read more

Oh wow. Do not eat here unless you really want a foodborne illness. We watched workers (btw...no one was ever using gloves here): 1. handling lettuce with no gloves. prepping salads. ewwww 2. worker take out the trash and then return behind the counter without washing hands. 3. Worker behind the counter drinking a beverage (open beverage, no straw), handling money, cash register etc etc then scooping ice cream. All without washing hands. 4. Staff behind the counter grabbing your glassware by the rim. Why is this place allowed to operate? We could see all of this from our seat. What can't we see? Blasé would be the nicest way to say it. Interesting atmosphere, almost pretentious, which would be fine if the menu at all backed up the theme. This is a pleasant surprise. If you haven't been here before then it is worth a visit. The food is surprisingly good and the service is outstanding. The coffee offerings are pretty much the same as any other coffee shop but they are done really well. A latte and a cappuccino are actually done right which is dramatically different the going to a Starbucks or Woods. This may not be the spot of you are in a hurry but if you have the time to enjoy the product that you are actually getting then stop by you won't be disappointed because you can taste the difference. There are some good aspects to this place. The décor was very nice, and the service was friendly and prompt. However...I came in at 11:45 and wanted lunch. Sorry, they don't start lunch until 12:10 (!) so I had to order from the breakfast menu. Would it kill you to serve lunch at 11:30 like every other restaurant in the world? I ordered a hash that was mostly sweet potatoes, a few microscopic pieces of sausage, and one poached egg. Tasty, but a small portion, and not worth what they charged for it. Totally worth a try - they have lots of vegetarian options and can also make them vegan and/or gluten free. It's nice to go to a place that doesn't cater only for carnivores. The coffee options were good, though I am part of a minority that prefer a heavy dark roasted coffee, but I think they cater for the majority of tastes. This place is cute and the food & drinks are decent, but the service is terrible. The first time we went, they forgot to bring one of our drinks out. We decided to give it a second chance. The next time, it took over 30 minutes for us to get our drinks and then some additional time to get our food. We went there today and we only got 2 drinks. We ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes and saw multiple people come in and leave after us with their orders. Cool atmosphere, but it's not worth the wait, especially pour over and an iced chai. I have been meaning to review Camber ever since they opened in Bellingham. They were the forerunners in bringing stellar coffee to Whatcom County. I am a giant fan of the "On a Passing Cloud" formerly the "Lenny the Oat" but really you can't go wrong with any of their coffee drinks. Their food is also top notch. They put as much care and thought into innovative food options to pair with their drinks. The only area that could potentially be improved upon is their baked goods. Don't get me wrong I love their scone but their assorted baked goods don't quite match the excellence of their other food offering and coffee. read more

I really wanted to love this place. The atmosphere was amazing! The coffee was awful. First off- I saw the barista give me coffee that had been sitting out in an espresso basket since before the time I was there. If I'm paying over $10 for a 4 oz cortado and an 8 oz cappuccino with oat milk, I want some damn good coffee. The espresso shots were under extracted and were sour in both drinks. The cappuccino had very little foam and resembled more of a latte. I will not be returning, as there is much better coffee just down the street. read more

Great coffee and a beautiful setting, but the service here tends to be rather rude. Twice in recent months I have met clients for coffee. In both cases one or both of us ordered at the counter (it seemed like the routine, since it faces you upon entry). When we then tried to take our number to sit in a booth or at a table (and once when we were already seated) we were rudely told that the (empty) area we were in was 'table service only'. There are no signs. The server at the counter said nothing about where we could or couldn't sit when we ordered our coffee/snacks for 'here'. Also, I tipped at the counter the suggested 18-20%. Apparently that doesn't give you free reign and you must be rudely ushered to sit at high tables surrounded by people working from laptops. You can only sit where you want if they come wait on you. You must intuitively know this, or be shooed away. Awkward, and again... both times the approach was very rude. My client even commented on it. So disappointing. read more

Our first visit to Camber, glad to see this renovated location. Our service by Emmaline and team was excellent, and coffee was fine. It was tough to find a good selection on the morning menu. Most (all?) of the meat selections were pork based, something we tend to avoid. We opted for the porridge- great ingredients that just didn't seem to quite work together. Visiting Camber with its cool, calm atmosphere was great. Could easily see myself here after a day of classes or just to hang out with friends for a glass of wine. Haven't had the coffee yet and so glad to see they've got some great unique options on tea. Their pastries come from Iron Rooster Bakery in Fairhaven -- try them out if haven't already. Staff was friendly and relaxed. But, I've got to knock off a few stars (I know, I know, they're still in their soft opening). But if you're going to have an open wall to your kitchen, know you have an open wall to your kitchen. We can see everything.. Watching as it took 3 different employees to make 1 just a tad too simple of a waffle. The guy preparing raw chicken + the veg prep guy + the waitress who finally brought it out. Guys.. My parents and I went to Camber on the way to Whistler and on the way home from Whistler (because we loved it so much the first time). The first time we went, my mom got the rösti, my dad got the breakfast sandwich, and I ordered the sweet dutch baby. My mom LOVED her rösti, it had the most amazing flavors and was a great dish. My dad said his breakfast sandwich was good but he wished that he had ordered the rösti after having a few bites of my moms breakfast. I enjoyed my dutch baby but I think that it could be improved. The dutch baby came with strawberries, some ricotta, and hazelnut crumble. I think that the dutch baby had decent flavor, but I would've enjoyed it more, had the hazelnut crumble (which was like granola) been hazelnut spread. Also if the strawberries had been macerated, it would've complimented the dish better then just cut up strawberries. The ricotta was also but it would've been better with some whip cream. The coffee was the best coffee we got on our whole trip. My dad got a cappuccino which he said was amazing. My mom and I both ordered lattes which were insanely creamy. The house made coffee syrups were literally so bomb and I wish they would bottle and sell them. (Carmel is the better of the two) The second time we came, both my parents ordered the rösti because they loved it so much. My dad said that the bacon jam was one of the best condiments that he has ever had. Its also their most popular dish on the menu. I got the chorizo hash which was pretty good. The kitchen messed up our eggs though which was a bummer. Also the bacon is so delicious and actually tastes like it is from a pig. The waitress told us that they had bought a whole pig which explains the amazing taste of the bacon. Overall the experience was amazing and the atmosphere was very nice. This was one of our favorite breakfast spots for several months, but our experiences have been going consistently downhill. The last couple of times we've visited, both the food and service have been absolutely terrible. Today the avocado toast was on soggy, completely un-toasted bread and the poached egg was so over cooked that it tasted like a hard boiled egg. We also waited more than 20 minutes before ever seeing our server, and it took nearly an hour to get breakfast even though the restaurant was barely half-full. As much as we used to love this place, I doubt we'll be coming back any time soon. read more

Head down the block to any of several rough around the edges yet highly welcoming and much better places to get good coffee and pay half as much. tried to meet a friend for a coffee and a chat here but due to no parking, she never made it. This obviously is no fault of the facility but just be warned if on a schedule. It was a Saturday at 1pm. I believe street parking is free, but good luck finding any. I found a pay lot, but you have to go online or download and app, which eats up about 10 min. As for the cafe, the inside is clean, pretty and noisy. Hard to have a conversation here. I had an Americano, which was just ok. I wasn't a fan of the blend they used. It was a very weak blend, which made it taste literally like watered down coffee. We had a scone and yogurt/granola which was good. Also ordered the winter hash, which had very little flavor. I tried to add salt, unfortunately the salt grinder hardly worked. Overall, I wouldn't return. Not bad but not worth the parking, and mediocre coffee/food. read more

I love camber, their atmosphere is great. Their americano is very delicious and cheap!!! I like how they always serve you water and can take your coffee orders from your seat. They are nice about letting you stay for a while. They always try to keep things clean and if they see that you're waiting for a table they won't hesitate to clean one for you even when they're in the middle of something. They don't try to kick you out when you're hanging out before closing time they're very respectful about letting you know when they close and are trying to wrap up...they have good customer service read more
