After a series of other mishaps spanning a couple hours I showed up at Cameo Cleaners a tired, smelly, and defeated person. They were so chill and judgment-free as I handed them my pee covered garment. I definitely left with a greater sense of dignity than I entered with. I'm not one who usually gets all excited about a dry cleaner, but this place warrants it. It's not just because they do a great job when it comes to "getting what you expect" - clean clothes at a reasonable price - but the couple that run the place add to the experience. It's like bringing you clothes home from college so "mom" can do you wash for you. They are warm, friendly, extremely accommodating when it comes to special request, and while I'm a dedicated regular now, I've seen them treat someone who walks in for the first time the same as someone who's been going there repeatedly. It's really nice to give my business to a place where you feel like they really do care about you, about your clothes, about keeping you happy as a customer. I've tried a lot of different dry cleaners in Rogers Park, Edgewater & Uptown. To be honest, most of them do a good job when it comes to cleaning your clothes. I had tried a couple cleaners before I had a chance encounter with Cameo. And boy was it great! Actually I've never gotten anything cleaned here. That is to say, I've gotten other things done, and they probably involved some cleaning as an afterthought, but I've never brought something here just to clean. No, I came for the tailoring. The first time, I brought a vintage wool suit in. The place up on Sheridan and Estes had told me to my face that it was a "poor suit" and "stupid" and that I should buy one of their absolutely repulsive polyester models. They quoted me at $100 for the alterations on the suit, which was about what I had expected. But they were so rude I came here instead. Well, the owner here was excellent, loved the suit, offered to get it done in a week (although I told her two would be fine), and finished it EXCELLENTLY for less than half the price the other place told me. Holy crap!! Later I brought back another blazer or two, one that even had to change from a three-button to a two-roll, and her speed and skill amazed me again. As did the shockingly low price. I've since moved over an hour from the neighborhood but I bring my stuff back here anyway. Come get your stuff changed into better stuff here! read more

CAMEO CLEANERS PLEASE READ: This was my first and my last time coming here...There are multitudes of dry cleaning spots in Rogers Park and elsewhere that do a better job and are more professional. When I dropped my clothes off, it was on a Wednesday, and the Asian lady (I never got her name) checked all my clothes, gave me an itemized receipt with the total cost of cleaning and altering my clothes. She told me it might be ready by the weekend but more than likely not until Monday. She said she'd call me once my clothes were ready.... Monday rolls by, then Wednesday... No phone call received so I'm assuming they're not ready yet. Friday finally comes and I'm like, ok, did they forget to call me? And lo and behold... They did! Ok, no biggie it's not like I needed them by a certain time or date. But here's what PISSED me off... First, when I arrived Friday, I asked if my clothes were ready. The lady found my clothes, then replied "oh, sometimes I call customers and they don't have voicemail set up blah blah blah chick YOU NEVER CALLED most dry cleaners honor the day they tell you it will be ready or just call when they say they'll call. Lady, don't accuse the customer of being wrong when you're wrong! Second, the price. She forgot to include one of my blouses and told me it would be more. That's her fault she shouldn't have quoted an incorrect price. Then she plays games with me like oh I can give you a $2 discount.... WOW $2.00 WHAT A DEAL She offered to let me pay later but I just wanted my clothes. Bottom line: Very bad customer service, alteration job was ok, didn't get the stains out of 2 of my clothes... I've lived all over the US and have dealt with grade A tailors all over. I can honestly say that Cameo Cleaners is one of the best places to get your clothes tailored or dry cleaned. They always shock me by their turn around time to when the items will be ready for pick up. The lady that runs the place is extremely sweet and you can tell she cares about the quality of work put into the clothes. One of the sweetest and honest people I've ever encountered. RUDE I never had a dry cleaning professional make me "promise" them that I won't wait so long to take my article of clothing in to be cleaned just so she doesn't need to "scrub twice as much". She makes it sound as if I ran my clothing through hell and back and needs to make it white again. Mind you, these are several physician white coats I get cleaned by them every 2-4 weeks. Although she was likely trying to come up with a reason why my dry cleaning wasn't ready in the morning for pick-up, she was seriously overly dramatic. Very similar to other posts here, she tends to point-the-finger to avoid blame in any situation. My response? "No, I am not promising you anything". Last time I checked, I was paying you and trying to actively support YOUR business, not the other way around. What I can promise is that I will gladly support another cleaner 8 blocks down the street instead. Warning: Clothing item prices fluctuate and inflate unannounced. I"ve been here a few times for alterations, the couple that runs this Cleaners are always very pleasant to deal with. They do a fantastic job on my garments. For instance, I wanted slits sewn up on a few garments, it was done so well that it's hard to believe they were there. They shortened a really long skirt for me to the perfect length I specified! The old asian people the run this place are pretty nice. My friend and I needed our pants altered for an event we had on Friday. We went in on Wednesday and they got it done on time. They get right down to business. They also do the measuring for you and will give you a hard time if you come in with your own measurements, just because they want to make sure it's right and that you don't complain if they use your measurements and you don't like how it ends up. read more

I brought my vacuum cleaner here because the bag zipper was stuck. They worked on it for literally 20 minutes with wax and oils to get the bag to open. They only charged me $5! They are also very reasonable with cleaning and sewing prices. The lady who works the front counter is very friendly and treats everyone like a close friend. I have recently moved to Rogers Park from Hyde Park and went about finding a new dry cleaner by looking around on Yelp and other review sites. I settled on Cameo cleaners and I am SO GLAD that I did!!!! I have NEVER had such a pleasant experience dealing with a dry cleaner since long ago at my hometown dry cleaner who knew my entire family from when I was a kid. The warm welcome you receive by the owners here is amazing. The lady introduced herself to me and shook my hand, welcoming me to her store......yes.....I was shocked.....she is so darn sweet. The care with which the transaction took place was nice and the cleaning was done on time and it was PERFECT!!!!! I generally don't get all excited about a dry cleaner, but, when the people who own Cameo Cleaners are this nice and care so much about the quality of their product and their service to their customers I felt that I must post a review. I did notice a few negative reviews here and I am not sure that you can blame the current owners. The owner there today said that they bought it from an elderly couple in the not too distant future. As for the individual who asked about the days that it takes certain cleaners to get a job done, it depends on the individual cleaner. The place I used to go would tell me 3 or 4 days all the time on regular dry cleaning orders, which was fine with me because I knew this ahead of time. All that I know is, if you want to be treated well, Cameo Cleaners is where you should go!!!! read more

I had gone to Cameo cleaners once before today.. to have a dress altered. They did an alright job, but did sort of change the style of an expensive dress. However I'm nice and was willing to see past that. Today I just needed to be measured for a bridesmaid dress. I figured it would only take a couple minutes so I didn't bother calling. I stopped in and was given a fairly friendly greeting but when I asked her if she was able to take my measurements she said "oh no honey I'm really busy" stared up at the clock and said come back between 12 and 1 pm. I walked back home a ten minute walk which was mildly annoying but my fault for not calling ahead I figured. When I came back in she started laughing at me and said oh you came back today??? I said yes between 12 and 1 like you said... she said oh no tomorrow honey.. Why in the world did she stare up at the clock then? As if that had something to do with the next day... she obviously forgot or was just really busy, but why blame me?? I was just looking to give her business. Part of why I came in there out of all places was because I thought she was sweet... even though she messed up my graduation dress. Man was I wrong... she then asked me what kind of dress it was I said it's a long bridesmaid dress... What does that matter? just measure me!!!! She said I can't help you if you don't know then sat back down sewing.. I almost walked out but I needed to get these measurements by today and didn't have time to walk the neighborhood looking for another place. I called my friend had her send a picture of the dress. The lady acted like that made all the difference in the world. She made ME write down the measurements... like are you kidding me??? She tried claiming my hips were 19 inches ..That's impossible... luckily I guess the hips aren't that important for this dress but hopefully the other measurements were correct.. she charged me 5 dollars which is cheap but with the way she treated me and for wasting my time when I only wasted 1.5 minutes of hers it should have been $2 dollars at most.. will never return.. based on my experience and other people who reviewed this place is full of crap. read more

I've never had a problem here with dress shirts, pants and sweaters, but when I tried to bring in a cotton comforter recently I was told it'd take three or four days to get it done. Not sure why--took it somewhere else and got it done same day. Not sure whether it's typical or reasonable...but this place is right around the corner, so I'll keep taking dress clothes, but the 'specialty' stuff will go elsewhere. read more

CAMEO CLEANERS WILL RUIN YOUR CLOTHES! They attempted to return to me a white shirt which they had soiled by a five inch-long black skid mark down the front. I told them that was unacceptable and the store manager exclaimed that they didn't make the stain - it must have come to them stained (an incredible lie). After prolonged protest from me, they agreed to clean the shirt properly, but when I returned to pick it up the second time, it was now burned from their iron, leaving a yellowish mark mid-way down the front. Once again, the manager claimed they were not responsible. BEWARE! read more

I've used Cameo Cleaners twice. The first time, I needed a bridesmaid dress shortened, and they accommodated me on short notice and did a fine job. The price seemed high, but from my understanding it's pretty standard for shortening that particular material. I recently brought two blankets to be cleaned - one woven throw blanket and one big comforter. I brought them in on a Tuesday and the woman said they might be done by the end of the week, but probably next week. She also made me pay a $20 deposit for the $56 total, which is the strangest thing I've ever heard. I've never paid a deposit at a dry cleaner and have asked everyone I know - they've never heard of this either. But okay, whatever. Next week came and went without a phone call. Then another week. I began to wonder where on earth my blankets could be, but waited yet another week (okay fine that part is my fault) and called them. "Oh yeah, it's ready!" was the response, with no explanation of why I never received a call in the first place. But again, whatever, willing to let that go. I picked up my blankets and all was well, but the next day I took out the throw and snuggled up with it, only to start panicking that one of my cats had pooped outside the litter box. After looking around desperately, I realized it wasn't the cat - it was the blanket. I had sent my blanket to the cleaner and it came back smelling like literal shit. I haven't dared take the comforter out yet to see if it suffered the same fate. If it did, I'll be taking it elsewhere to be cleaned again in hopes it can be salvaged - that thing was expensive! read more

I am fearful when I have to try new places. After moving here, I clung to my dry cleaning for months, as I did not want it to be ruined by a wrong choice. I was disheartened by the reviews on Yelp for any place on here, except this one. I figured for a recent review, why not? and it is RIGHT BY THE TRAIN. Open at 7, closes at 7, clearly commuter hours! The couple that own this are phenominal. They are fair priced, kind, concerned about your clothes and are personable. They greet you warmly and kindly before asking about your business. And they ask. Not assume. They also do alterations, clean leather, rugs and do minor shoe repair. Did I mention how kind they are? I did take an item before I found them to a one price for most on Howard (actually a friend did) and they did a fine job for $3. But I cant find them, it is way out of my way, and it is worth paying a fraction extra for kindness and concern. They actually engage in conversation with you. Friendly! They have my business. Im sure there will be some mix up somewhere, but I am confident that when it happens, it will be handled with gentleness and compassion. read more

I just picked up my old winter coat, and it looks great--almost like new. Very nicely pressed, clean, and for 15.00. It was cheaper than the last two cleaners I went to, and they did a better job. The young man who helped me was pleasant and friendly. And unlike other cleaners, he didn't give me one price over the phone and another when I brought in the item, which has happened to me a lot. Regarding Morse Avenue, why wouldn't I support a business on Morse Avenue which is close by, provides excellent service, and is a good deal? Supporting local businesses is good for the neighborhood. And anger at local businesses--as I saw in another Rogers Park review--because gang members hang out nearby seems misplaced. read more

I started out by dropping off shirts to launder once a week, but I soon came to her for everything: cleaning comforters, mending pants and coats, replacing elastic, anything! I took a pair of suit pants here and they were returned with what looked like water marks all over. I told the lady about it and she just yelled "No money back! No money back!!" The only reason this place got an extra star is because my boyfriend takes his collared shirts here all the time and has only had one come back stained (which he seems to think is acceptable). Businesses do not have the luxury of opening and closing whenever they feel like, without severely angering and inconveniencing their customers. You may not adhere to a schedule, but other people do. For example, I timed my morning perfectly today to arrive at your place of business at 7:15am, giving you a cushy 15 minutes of time after your advertised opening time of 7:00am, only to find the store boarded up and me left hanging with my giant bag of clothes, forced to walk 15 minutes and 4 flights of stairs back to my apartment, and then all the way back to the train. Not only am I fuming, I am going to be late to work, and my dry cleaning isn't getting done on time. I don't care what time you feel like rolling out of bed and getting into work. This place is a great business. I used to work a few storefronts down from this cleaners shop. The lady that owns the business is very nice, sweet, friendly. I never brought any of my clothes or items here until just a week ago. I knew I could rely on her and her husband because not only are they good people but I always used to see them working really hard through their store windows. But anyways, my boyfriend's jacket got covered in dog piss because he was holding a puppy. It was a 3/4 down jacket made by Michael kors. He just got it this year. So we took it to the cleaners and they did an AMAZING JOB removing the smell and cleaning the jacket. Not only did it look brand new, but it looked even better then we he had first bought it from the store. They go over and above, fluffed and softened out the feather on the hood and making his jacket look better than brand new. Definitely recommending this place to anybody.
