Soapie's goes beyond your usual dry cleaners in that they are ultra organized, can do special tasks, provide excellent service, and are quite reasonable for the quality they provide. Additionally, they offer tailoring and repairs by people who know what they are doing. I've used Soapie's for over a decade, but something has changed post-Covid. The owner is absent. The women behind the counter have very limited English skills, so discussing finer points of a sweater or an account are about impossible. And the communication from the store used to be exceptional -- texts when clothes were ready for pickup, etc. Now they can't give a specific date and time for when clothes will be ready. I have been bringing my clothes to Soapies for dry cleaning and tailoring services for years. The service is exceptional. Every. Single. Time. However, I'm writing a review because this time they went WAY above and beyond my expectations! I brought 7 shirts in on a Thursday (evening...) needing them back on Saturday for work trip Monday. Naturally, the pandemic has impacted everyone's ability to deliver, and I was forewarned that the shirts might not be ready. But check after 2 on Saturday. 3:30 PM Saturday rolls around, I walk in fully expecting my shirts. But no shirts. My heart sank, and my head may have even clunked on the counter...Well, the staff called the plant. Located the shirts, and given they were closing shop in a few minutes offered to pick them up from the plant and DRIVE them to my house! What??? Who does this? Yun and her team do! Took a dress/suit here for tailoring. Thought I needed a shorter skirt and sleeves. Turns out I needed tapering. Very grateful that someone (I can't remember her name!) stepped in and was like, no no no. The outfit looks amazing and fits me so well. An update on my review a few months earlier. Soapie's destroyed my shearling and mink coat. It is a vintage coat and it cost me $600 to restore. I contacted BBB about this matter and initially Soapies agreed to pay for the repairs, but now they are backtracking and not paying the bill. I am reopening the case with BBB and also taking it to the IL AG. Soapies was around for years but I think it is under new ownership now. They do not care about their clientele anymore. Never ever trust them with anything. Please take your business elsewhere. read more

I have yet to get back my rug, but owner was very honest with expectations for what I should expect, things like the dog hair will probably not be 100% removed, and the stains on the white may not look like new. She explained the cleaning process for the rug and with it being wool how they need to treat it differently so it doesn't shrink. She was open and honest with the pricing and what to expect, so I'm pleased so far. I did go ahead and take a chance on it, if it's any cleaner then when I dropped it off, then I'll be happy! This place destroyed my genuine fur coat. If I could give negative stars I would. They cut off my genuine mink collar and claimed it was destroyed by cleaning. Then they offered to replace it with cheap velour fabric. This is unacceptable and it will cost me a lot to repair. I am taking them to court and suing them. read more

Do NOT Go HERE!!!! My son-in-law brought in expensive suits for alterations and he just picked up the items only to find out the "minimal, crap job" done to them. He said the lady had his stuff for over 3 weeks and the end product isn't much different from how he brought them in. I'm sad and disappointed for his loss and total waste of money. I had a bridal shower dress that I paid a fortune to have altered in NYC and they botched the whole back of the dress- it was bunch and awkward looking. Yun fixed it for a fraction of the price and made it look even better than it did when I bought it- now it looks like it was custom made for me!! She also steamed my veil and showed me the best way to steam my wedding dress without overcharging me like the other cleaners I got quotes from. Soapies was my savior. I brought in a bridesmaid dress that needed to be altered in under two weeks for a June wedding and the tailoring staff at Soapies were exceptional. I purchased my dress from a big box bridal chain and attempted to have my alterations done in-house, but they needed more than two weeks to complete the work. I didn't have that kind of time leaving me to find a local tailor at short notice. Thankfully Yun, at Soapies, was able to help me out. My satin dress, prior to alterations, was designed to show off an hour glass figure. In fact, this feature was the main reason I choose this dress. Upon receiving the dress, it was perfectly snug at the bust, but was woefully inadequate around the waistline. It needed to be taken in at least an inch and a half. Yun was able to make this happen and successfully turned an unfettered dress into a custom fit hybrid mermaid/fit and flare. She also tailored the hem at the base of the dress so that it would barely skim the floor. The best part was receiving the dress in under a week and a half; leaving days left to spare prior to the wedding! I was so pleased with the turnout! The alterations were costly but for the quality of work they put in, it was worth the money. read more

I have been using Soapie's for years for my dry cleaning and alterations. Always pleased with the results and the quick service. However, I recently found out that Yun (the owner) and her assistant tailors do many projects such as recovering chairs, designing and making boat covers, etc. I had them make blackout curtains for my bedroom. I can be rough on some of my work clothes and they have done what would appear to be challenging clothing repairs for me. I hand carried a linen comforter (Restoration Hardware purchase) from Pittsburgh to Soapies. Pre-paid (not cheap) for cleaning. Just returned to Pittsburgh, and opened the package only to find that bleach appears to have stained the corner of my beautiful comforter. Not good. Brought a down parka in to get cleaned. They had it for two days. Came back with same stink that was the reason to get cleaned. Also have not had good luck with some other dry cleaning here. It's pointless to complain. It's 50/50 it's cleaned. So on to next dry cleaners I suppose. read more

I took a really dress here to get the waist loosened up a bit, it came back feeling a bit better. But after I wore it for only one night, there was a hole under my armpit at the seam. It could be the dress' material, but I think that they could have been a bit more careful with it. read more

Worst. Cleaners. Ever. They ruined our expensive Belgian linen curtains - put huge tears in them and didn't even bother to tell us what they had done to them after charging us $80. Needless to say, I was horrified when we put them back up. These curtains were several years old, but they had never been cleaned and they were given to Soapies in perfect condition. They claimed it was distress from sunshine - but the curtains are behind a UV filtering shade and always have been. Then they claimed that they have a policy that excludes older linen curtains from damage. If we had known that, we would never have given them the curtains to begin with. We didn't know because it was never stated to us and does not appear on their website. In other words, does not exist and is a convenient way for them to avoid responsibility for tearing these in a machine that was probably overfilled - which is probably what happened here. I should also mention, the curtains came back no cleaner than when they went in. I will never give this place anything to clean, and I am going to let the BBB know as well. read more

After a wonderful wedding on the beach, my wedding dress was black on the bottom and sandy everywhere. It, along with its veil, was paraded around a resort for hours, got wet in the ocean, the lace was brown and to top it off, it was folded into a suitcase. Needless to say, it was not in the shape I bought it in. I called 4 different places in Chicago, who i won't call out, and every place wanted 400 dollars and stated it would take at least 2 months to clean. Which, for most people would be fine, if you don't have an after party to wear it to a month later. I called soapies and they quoted me 200 dollars with a wait time of two weeks! They told me up front that they would not be able to remove all of the stains but they would try. I also had them clean my husband's suit as well. The only thing they were not able to clean was the handmade veil, but they did press it for me at no extra cost. I received a call and a text two weeks later and went to pick up the clothes. OMG. They managed to get 99 percent off the stains out. The only part that was even SLIGHTLY discolored was the lace in the back on the bottom of the dress, something people would never see, unless they knew where to look. Soapies delivered on everything I asked them for, were upfront and honest with me and I was treated with the utmost respect. Thank you guys! I'll most definitely be back. read more

They did rewash my coat, getting the dye stains out. The process did leave distressing and holes in the sleeve near the logo. They did show me the damage to the coat before I left this time. They had also said they called the company and the warranty repairs would take 8 weeks. While I do appreciate that they made this effort, that's me without my coat for this winter. It is also information I already knew as I had told them during my first trip that I work for the company. I still feel it's very dishonest to return a customer's item damaged in some way, charge them and not mention it to them. My boyfriend was very upset by this but unfortunately Soapie's had closed by the time he had seen it. There has been better customer service but it shouldn't only come after an incident such as this. read more

Alterations at Soapie's get a "heck yeah" from this yelper. I took my wedding dress here on the advice of an Evanston couture shop. It was sadly in need of fixing up and taking in after my first attempt to get it altered failed elsewhere. The ladies here made me feel totally confident letting them take needles to my dress and they did a great job. In five minutes, they gave me more suggestions on the dress than I'd gotten in 30 from the first alterationist. Yay. They did such a great job, I took another dress in to be altered. What I really love about these ladies is that if you need a second opinion, they've got it. If you explain what you're looking for, they can envision what you mean and execute it. This is not the awkward alteration situation I've been used to up til now. You know, at other places I have left feeling like, "Maybe we weren't on the same page about that skirt..." only to come back a week later and learn that something was, perhaps, lost in translation. From now on, this is my only place for alterations. In fact, I've got a pile of clothes just waiting to be snipped. I've just got to remember to swing by and bring them in now and again on my lunch hour. Love this place! read more

Zero stars. Such a rude owner. We finally were able to speak to the owner after going in person to inquire. The owner called back a few days later only to criticize our taste, offer to take back to jean in order to receive the hemming fee back. She said " I can just sell the jeans myself". After telling her that that would be a a loss for me and they did not do the hemming as instructed (which was a very basic hem) she said that she "called me as a courtesy and that she is late for an appointment because of me"-and hung up the phone. I have some choice words for the business owner at this point for this establishment but I highly recommend going somewhere else. I have a lot of colleagues that need alternations and dry cleaning. I am not surprised if they loose business in the future because of how rude and misleading they are. Maybe take a few classes on etiquette and anger management skills. read more

Soapie's reconstructed my entire wedding dress and I could not be happier. As a pregnant bride, it was difficult to determine how my body would look when I ordered my dress. Soapie's did an amazing job making sure that the dress not only fit my non-pregnant parts perfectly but also my growing bump.
