Portions and flavors were average, and while nothing was bad, there wasn't anything particularly memorable either. Be aware that there are extra charges for things that are usually complimentary at other Mexican spots, like chips and salsa refills or substituting queso. And their salsa was runny... very disappointing. On the plus side, they offer a solid Tuesday deal: 3 beef, chicken, or bean tacos for $7, available for dine-in and takeout. Service (1/5): Service was disappointing. We only saw our server twice: once to take the order and once to drop off the food. No drink refills, no check-in, no chance to order anything else. I ate here before, just prior to Covid. So this is second time. - I give a 3 as it's not one of my top 3 Mexican favorites. But it's also definitely not one of my bottom 3, worst Mexican restaurant experiences. They use a lot of Yellow sharp cheddar cheese instead of the queso. (Cheese dip) as some places call it. Even on my chicken chimichanga, it was naked of sauce but with guacamole, lettuce tomato on top. Usually, there queso Glazed over the top and makes the dish much more tasty and less dry. The chicken inside the chimichanga wrap was good. Queso makes it better. Rice was ok. After 4 bites I needed more substance and flavor. It got dry quick. No bell peppers cut up and tossed i to it or corn? Beans were ok. They were not the best or worst. Service was ok. No complaints. Large area. Youre not cramped in there rubbing shoulders. Little decor around the room. I DO very much enjoy hispanic playlist while I'm eating. Makes me feel good. I would eat here again. I'm a sucker for Mexican foods. Our friend moved to Berryville and she kept raving about this place, so we decided to check out out. Food (5/5): First of all, his place has MOLE!! Like, that rare elusive yummy rich chocolatey and chili sauce that is basically impossible to find (it's not "American enough" to make On the Border or Uncle Julio's menu). The chips and salsa were standard fare, the white queso was meh. The LARGE jalapeño margarita as definitely amazing! (get it with salt rim, on the rocks.). Hubby got the taco and enchilada combo and was satisfied. However, the HIT of the day was the amazing cheese enchiladas with MOLE sauce. Did I mention how much I love mole? If you have never had it and like FLAVOR, then you should get it. You are welcome. Service (5/5): Kenya was amazing. She took our order with tons of substitutions and didn't make a single mistake! Even better, they were able to make anything possible, like me asking for cheese enchilada (2 enchilada combo meal) with mole sauce on top (even though Mole only appears as Mole Pollo platter.) And the best, they didn't charge me extra! They we're even able to mix combos, like give my friend the 2 enchilada combo (one chicken suiza and one cheese mole), again, no uncharge. Seriously amazing. Atmosphere (3/5): This is right behind the normal Main Street of Berryville and the inside was a bit plain. The weather was nice so we sat outside on the 4 table patio. I have to start with the salsa, which is the backbone of any mexican table. There are many styles that originate out of Mexico and i make many different authentic styles at home. What they serve here is none of those, bland, runny, tomato sauce like. you cannot get the chip to your mouth without losing all the salsa on the way. way too watery. Also start making your own fresh pressed masa tortillas, I would run there everyday for that only. Chili Relleno is not a stuffed Poblano here, so if thats your fave, forgo it, its some sort of casserolle the way they prepare. Nachos are fine here and is pretty basic but if the tortillas were fresh pressed would be great.my hearfelt suggestion to the owner is to rework this whole menu, offer less options, but do a simpler menu very well, starting with the salsa, maybe offer a homestyle cooked and a fresh chopped salsa options. My other suggestion is to purchase Rick Bayless books and become inspired by this, Rick spent many years traveling all of Mexico regions, in many Mexican grandmas kitchens and is one of the most respected mexican chefs in America and Mexico.The bar has been set high on traditional authentic mexican food these days and this place could be a stand out if they would prepare the simple, fresh and all house made but fewer items done well. Im not a big drinker but when i do have a Margerita i want an authentic one made with simple syrup , and fresh squeezed limes, not sweet and sour bar mix. Hidden gem that's a real find! We stumbled into this place when we stopped at Nalls Market on route 7 and asked the locals if there was good Mexican they could recommend near by. This one kid (yeah, a kid) said that Camino Real was TERRIFIC. But how do you take advice from a kid, right? Well, we kind of forgot about the recommendation as we were heading to Winchester, but on the way home everyone was hungry and I remembered the kids and his recommendation. Hard to find without a gps if you're not from Berryville, but my oh my... Good food and good margaritas! My wife had a shrimp based "stew" and I had the Carne Asada. We both were winners! The food was okay, however even though the website says they are open until 1:00am and we made a plan for an entire group to hang out, they closed at 10:00 and refused to stay open later. I visit this place frequently and have for probably 6 years. It's the best Mexican food and they're always so busy but they always manage as best as they can. They are always so nice and willing to help. I especially applaud the younger gentleman who works there. I had been waiting a bit longer than intended, due to how busy they were for takeout so I walked back and asked if he could make me my to-go margarita (it was for my mother's 50th birthday) and he did so without complaint. He had to walk away from his tables and come to the front to make my drink, normally I wouldn't ask somebody to do this for me but I was running a bit late for a party. I always make sure to tip well, even with to-go orders. My favorite is the chicken taquito appetizer (I get it as my main course most of the time). Slightly above average food, so while I'm inclined to say 3.5 stars, the excellent service and value pushes it to 4 stars for reviewing purposes. Entering from the street, the first thing you see is the bar which was crowded but underwhelming. Looks like it's a good place for cheap beer and happy hour specials like a $5 bar menu. But then we noticed a sign above a hallway saying "Please Seat Yourself" leading to a dining room which had a completely different vibe, with some subtle southwestern decor, a fireplace, Latin music and plenty of tables and booths to choose from. Our server greeted us with chips and salsa, a pitcher of water, two glasses and menus. They serve just about everything you'd expect at a Mexican restaurant with more than 30 combination platters, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, salads and even "American" fare such as hamburgers. We opted for the "Manuel burrito" described as pork and beef simmered in salsa verde with rice, beans and cheese, steak fajitas and queso for our chips. The queso came out right away and while a small portion was only $2.75 and had good flavor. The entrees came soon enough and the portions are massive. The burrito didn't match our mental image as we thought salsa verde was supposed to be green and not red, but it was good regardless. The steak for the fajitas came out on your typical sizzling platter with a huge plate of beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, cabbage/lettuce, tomatoes and three flour tortillas. I was a little disappointed that the steak had been cut into thin strips and almost stir fried rather than grilled whole and sliced as it didn't have a crust to it and was well done. Even so though, together with all the other accompaniments overall it was good as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive, frequently checking in on us and getting anything we requested like hot sauce quickly. So while the food was better than average, the good service combined with the reasonable prices and big portions makes it a good "port in the storm" if looking for a bite to eat in Berryville that won't break the bank. read more
