This is one location that I saved for the next time I was going to be in the Laverne Smyrna area and was so glad that I stopped to see them not realizing that they had taco Tuesday specials. They were street taco size so I ordered one of each, not realizing that it would be that much food, but I pretty much cleaned a plate regardless. I also ordered a side of Pitos and cheese and was quite pleased with how smooth and cheesy. They were very flavorful. I will definitely go there again to visit them even if it's not a Tuesday. There's a good chance. I'm gonna get one of each anyway. Lol. I believe you guys need to all stop and pay them a visit. It was very quaint. I was in town for work and we stopped at Oscar's for dinner. It has the feel of a local taco shop, a chill vibe for sure. The lady taking our order was friendly and helpful, and the tacos are pretty good. Al Pastor is always my go-to at a new taco place. I would definitely come back to Oscar's! Picture yourself sitting in the hot tub at the YMCA, and instead of 4 old men sitting next to you it's 4 babes...that's what it's like eating the chicken quesadilla. They don't skimp on the portion side, it's plump. They do pretty steady business (more to- go orders than dine in) but they get the food out pretty quick. The chips and queso are worth ordering too. It won't give you the same warm tingly feeling that the quesadilla gives, but it's still a good little appetizer. read more

The closest thing to San Diego mexican food I've had in Nashville thus far. This place definitely reminded me a lot of taco shops back home. Pretty much anything you'd get will be delicious and crunchy. I would only stick to tacos, burritos, and quesadillas here, if you get enchiladas or anything like that it will not be good. Another great little Oscar's Taco Shop! This place is a local California-style Mexican Restaurant, with pretty decent food. I love their Shrimp burrito, the fish tacos, the carnitas, Pastor, and many other items. It reminds me of a small chain we had back home in Fresno called Maria's Taco Shop which was a kind of fast food Mexican place that had great food too. I want to like Oscar's so bad because Mexican is my fave and it's close. But they have hands down the most disgusting chicken I have ever had in my life. I've gone several times and tried different menu items but it's always the same. Their chicken is hard and looks like alien intestines and tastes funky too. Idk what the heck part of the chicken they use or what their cooking process is but they've got to change it! Service was great. However I ordered a Cali burrito with no pico de gallo and added sour cream; my order was wrong and they added pico de gallo. I wasn't upset but I just don't prefer pico de gallo. I didn't notice until I got to my destination. It's supposed to be fries in the burrito but it was chunks of potatoes... it wasn't pleasant to eat at all. Not a twin of the Oscar's in Murfreesboro, but let's say a sibling. The food is still tasty San Diego-style Mexican food, hot, fresh, and savory. The atmosphere is a little more casual and I think this location is smaller and therefore has more of a take-out feel to it. Not to say one couldn't sit there and eat, but it's the feel of the place. Me, I sat inside and ate because I don't like waiting to get home. I try to eat in my car while I'm driving and get the small bits all over the seat, my lap and the floor. If I could give zeros stars I would. This is the worst experience I have ever had with an establishment. My order was wrong and I noticed after I had already gotten home with it. I am no where near the restaurant and will not be for some time. I called the restaurant, spoke with I assume the manager and they told me I picked up the wrong bag blaming me for them giving me the wrong food. They refused to refund my money, cut me off multiple times in the conversation and kept blaming me, the customer. Good prices, small portions. The Jamaica is amazing, the horchata is missing something. The carne Asada is good, however avoid anything fish. My husband ordered a wet burrito with fish and it literally came with hard fish sticks.... that was definitely a first. The girl at the front counter seemed nice enough but don't expect anything more but prices reflect that it's not a full service establishment. I read that this restaurant was similar to Southern California Mexican food. I was so excited to try it. I live in Nashville and I drove to Smyrna just for this restaurant. The one thing I was eager to try were the cheese enchiladas. Having visited Old Town San Diego I was enthusiastically anticipating that same delicious flavor. Upon arriving at Oscar's taco shop I quickly ordered the two cheese enchilada combo. I also added a shredded beef crispy taco. I grabbed my fork and cut my first bite of the enchilada, And was shocked. The flavor of the enchilada sauce was NOTHING like any enchiladas I have had in California, Arizona, or Texas. The sauce was oddly sweet and unappetizing. Reminded me of the weird flavor of Skyline Chili. I even asked the man at the counter if they put Cinnamon or Nutmeg in the Enchilada Sauce. He said yes they do use Cinnamon. On that note, the shredded beef taco was excellent. We did not finish our enchiladas and actually ordered 3 more tacos. My suggestion for anyone visiting Oscar's taco shop, is to stick to the tacos. Do not waste your time on ordering a combo, as the beans and rice were lackluster and lukewarm/cold. And if you like savory Tex- Mex enchiladas DO NOT order enchiladas. read more

This is a tiny little place in a strip mall in Smyrna, so needless to say, I didn't really have high hopes. My boyfriend and I were going to get Firehouse for dinner on Friday night, but then we saw a sign for tacos and decided that sounded better. There's about 7 or 8 tables inside where you can eat, but we decided to take it to go so I can't say anything about the dine in experience. They have a rather large selection of different tacos, burritos (even the breakfast variety, which are available all day!), tostadas, and tons of other stuff. I opted to get some chips and guacamole, and a carne asada quesadilla. My boyfriend got this combo that had a tostada and taco, and everything was fairly reasonably priced. We got a couple drinks and I think it was around $27 total, so not terrible. The guacamole was super tasty and really fresh tasting. I like mine kinda chunky but this one was pureed smooth, which was fine. Just a personal preference. The quesadilla was loaded with stuff and was super good. It had the carne asada (which was cooked to order), cheese, pico de gallo, refried beans, and guacamole. It was surprisingly good. I was pleasantly surprised by this place, and it only took about 10-15 minutes for our order to be cooked and ready to go, which isn't bad at all. Considering this place is less than a mile from my apartment, I think it's easy to say that I will be coming back here quite often and I'm pretty excited to try all the different things they have to offer. I have two favorite Mexican restaurants here in this area a s this is one of them! It's a chain and the location here in Smyrna is small, but the portions are huge AND delicious! My favorites are the taco salad and the nachos. The nachos have something on every chip and the taco salad bowls taste fresh. I've also had their quesadillas (biggest quesadillas I've ever had/fully loaded and not skimpy at all) and their breakfast burritos are even something I've had for dinner! read more

The Oscars in Smyrna is WAY different than the one we usually go to in Murfreesboro. I ordered the vegetarian taco salad. It was very small. It did not include black beans and fajita vegetables like the ones I am used to from the Oscars in M'boro. The beans and rice were orange. When we asked the girl at the counter about it her reply was, "we don't do that here". And the bathrooms were disgusting. Do not go to the Oscars in Smyrna. Very good authentic mexican food. This expansion takes over the space of Cocina Mexican Grill, and is much like the one I went to in the Boro. Though both places are good, this is quite an improvement over the previous tenant. I had the pastor burrito and shrimp taco. Both were amazing. Well, my eyes are too big for my stomach. I stopped in & ordered a chicken quesadilla ($7.09), a shrimp taco ($2.45) and a pork pastor taco ($2.45). I was surprised that the tacos all cost the same, usually places charge more for shrimp. Anyway. The price of the quesadilla should've told me that it was going to be large. I placed my to go order & waited about 15 minutes for it to be ready. Kind of slow considering they weren't that busy & the grill was full of meats on ordering. I got some hot sauce with my order as I picked it up. I felt the weight of the bag & realized it was a LOT of food. Next time, I'll either get two tacos OR the quesadilla, not both. The chicken quesadilla is almost like a burrito version of a quesadilla, with chicken, beans, cheese, pico, & guacamole inside. The thing is thick & tricky to eat without a fork & the insides will slide out. The tacos are served on corn tortillas, two per taco. They're kind of white for corn tortillas, I think the corn tortillas that are a little thicker & more yellow, they seem to stand up better than these as both this tacos tore through. All 3 were pretty messy to eat. The shrimp was a little tough, I preferred the pork pastor over the shrimp. read more
