Today was my 4th visit, and I'm finally expanding my tastes for a cheeseburger. It was delicious, too! The bun was soft but nicely toasted, the veggies were fresh, the tomatoes ripe, and the beef was cooked perfectly with great flavor! While the fries don't look like much, they're really tasty. I love this local comfort food place! Blackened catfish is good. My son loves the chicken-fried steak. Grand daughters love kids meals...reasonable and good. I usually get burger without bun (Nolan Ryan beef), with a salad instead of fries. And I love their salsa and have it as a salad dressing. The chips are amazing with the salsa too, I just like them too much and if I don't order them I'll eat a lot less calories as they happily bring refills. This place is SO FREAKIN GOOD!! I've been here a couple times. The first time I had a pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious. But I really wanted to review the second trip here, in which I ordered the gulf coast platter of 2 catfish fillets, 4 shrimp, and hushpuppies....all fried. So here's the thing about me, I'm not super big on fried food in general (other than french fries and tempura), it usually really messes with my stomach and no one knows how hot the oil should be so it's always really greasy. Not so here!! Their batter and seasonings have such great flavor and NOTHING, let me repeat NOTHING was greasy...just crispy and delicious!! I want to order it again so my tastebuds can experience the deliciousness but I will probably order something else when I go again, to try more of their menu. The chorizo burger that my bf had was really good too. The egg and avocado were nice with the not-seeded jalapeno slices, they helped temper the heat and it overall just worked. Oh and also, we ordered the banana pudding...HOLY OMG....I'd commit crimes for the recipe, or at least for a vat of it to just inhale and then die after slipping into a diabetic coma....but actually, it's not super sweet or anything, it's just perfect and rich, the person behind the counter said it was life changing when we ordered it and HE WAS RIGHT...GAWD I wish i had some right now. Picked this place for lunch based on the multiple positive Yelp reviews. It is a little hard to find but was well worth the trip north of 820. My uncle and I both had the Chicken Fried Steaks with mashed potatoes and green beans. The CFS was juicy and tender, and the portion size was good. The gravy was very good. The mashed potatoes were too garlic-y for our taste, but texture was nice. The green beans clearly came from a can, as they do at most homestyle restaurants, however here they doctor them up with plenty of goodies. This place is okay. Very average in taste and decor. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak because the server said it was the most ordered one. Several of my party members ordered the chicken tenders. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwhich. If I was to order again I'd probably go with something else. You can't really mess up chicken fried steak and you also can't put a unique twist to it because it's pretty basic. The dessert however was amazing. We had split the banana pudding which was perfect because after such a hearty meal it would be nearly impossible to finish a full bowl of dessert. So to sum it up, it's good...but not " go out of your way to come to this restaurant" good. PS- they donate to local charities. Well deserving of 5 stars. A simple spot, not a lot of unnecessary flair but the best food I've had in a while. Even the chips and salsa were so fresh and delicious. My guy had meat loaf, and I had the chicken fried steak. Each had the flavor of a well prepared home cooked meal. The green beans and mashed potatoes were so tasty. Everything exceeded expectations. The staff was so hospitable and inviting. First class service and food. I really can't say enough about this place. If you're a Texan and enjoy the taste of home then you owe it to yourself to give it a try. I only wish they weren't so tucked away because they are kind of hidden in this corner but look for them. I was impressed, I mean really impressed. The atmosphere was not all that, it was clean and welcoming but it's a strip mall and it is what it is. These guys are putting their money where it needs to go, in the food and it shows. I had the chicken fried steak and it past a test no other CFS in Fort Worth has past, you could cut it with a fork. Any real Southerner will tell you that is the mark of a REAL CFS. My husband had the chicken fried chicken, it too was tender and juicy and was well worth the ordering. The chicken did have an odd taste that makes you do a double take, a hint of maple on the chicken, it did not ruin the taste but it was distracting and unnecessary. The mashed potatoes taste real, the gravy taste real and the green beans are delicious. This place is really worth a try. A feature well worth mentioning is their wall to the left of the register. You will see boxes with charities on them. If you put your food receipt in one of the boxes they will donate to that charity. That is a service I would love to see spread. read more

Tried Texas campfire Grill for the first time today. The decor is very nice. We ordered the meatloaf and steak fajitas. We were told that the meatloaf was a MUST try and they were right! It was perfect! Very tasty. The fajitas we also great. The meat was tender and SO flavorful. We also got the chips and salsa. I'm a sucker for homemade salsa and this was fantastic!! And last but definitely not least we had the banana pudding. O. M. G. What a treat! We were so full but decided to order it anyways and we are so glad we did! It was sweet and delectable. I was here a few days ago to try the CFS. It was only marginally better than the one I had at the Cotton Patch the day before. The cream gravy had an orange tint which was a bit odd, Even though my friend liked the place I don't intend coming back. Not being a Christian I was a bit put off by the religious tone of this place although I can see why it appeals. I love small businesses so I feel sorry that Rufe Snow Street where it's located is torn up and is really hurting these places. BBQ meatloaf was tender, flavorful and the sauce was just the right mix of sweet and smokey. Mac and cheese was also fresh, smokey and amazing. (I asked and it's real smoked cheddar!) The drinks were also a good addition to the way your "grandmother used to make." Koolaide and Country Time lemonade were on tap to enjoy. Sandy's Daily Special: Chicken Fried Steak with your choice of: Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, or Salad For just $5.99 here it is $9.99 - 10 BUCKS really! I guess people who like tough, over fried, CFS think this is good. They haven't had a good chicken fried steak yet. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE ALERT! The green beans are tasty but salty. These, like any canned beans get limp after sitting in a steam tray in the kitchen for several hours. That's just my taste. (I watch my sodium intake and not just here, but there is so much salt added as preservatives and flavorings in just about everything, that I can really taste it in processed foods like these coming from a can) NOTE TO COOKS: (I have learned to cook without salt or salted seasonings and you can really taste the difference in the natural food compared to one that is highly seasoned like most restaurants - not complaining here, just a note that the food here is highly seasoned. Salt is a main ingredient in their recipes.) PORK CHOP: The pork chop was a little well done but many places do that out of caution. Juicy and tender and thick.... That was good. APPETIZER: The Texas Tumbleweeds while a good idea, needs to be executed better. In other words don't leave your fried foods in the grease so long they start to turn dark brown. MAIN COURSE: Chicken Fried Steak should be a cut of bottom round steak, tenderized by either a needling device or hit repeatedly with a meat tenderizing cleaver. MASTICATION EFFORT: You ought to be able to cut a good CFS with a fork - this one needed a saw tipped knife. FOOD SOURCING: I do not know if they are buying their steaks from Sysco, Kraft Foods, or Ben E. Keith, but the beginning product is not as good as it should be for two experienced food managers. They need to have their salesman bring them a higher quality steak. Coming from a seafood kitchen background I would suspect that the Catfish should be their SIGNATURE DISH. Very good food. I tried the chorizo burger with fried egg, avocado and jalapeños. It was very tasty except the patty kept falling apart and it didn't come with lettuce/tomato/onion. Other than that it was really good. My daughter had the chicken fried steak and she LOVED it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We also loved the Giving Wall. It's a wall with about six boxes on it. Each box represents a different charity. You pick your favorite charity and put your receipt in that box.
