Tried Texas campfire Grill for the first time today. The decor is very nice. We ordered the meatloaf and steak fajitas. We were told that the meatloaf was a MUST try and they were right! It was perfect! Very tasty. The fajitas we also great. The meat was tender and SO flavorful. We also got the chips and salsa. I'm a sucker for homemade salsa and this was fantastic!! And last but definitely not least we had the banana pudding. O. M. G. What a treat! We were so full but decided to order it anyways and we are so glad we did! It was sweet and delectable. Chicken Fried Steak was right at the home of my heart with the 1st bite! The steak was tender (not too chewy), just right consistency (not thin) and not overly battered (as most places). This generous sized CFS is served over mashed potatoes topped with gravy, side of green beans and TX toast. I had to add the creamy mac n' cheese just because it's a must have side at CFG. Very good food. I tried the chorizo burger with fried egg, avocado and jalapeños. It was very tasty except the patty kept falling apart and it didn't come with lettuce/tomato/onion. Other than that it was really good. My daughter had the chicken fried steak and she LOVED it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We also loved the Giving Wall. It's a wall with about six boxes on it. Each box represents a different charity. You pick your favorite charity and put your receipt in that box. A great local spot with that cares about the community. Won't find a kinder staff, we were asked how we were doing multiple times throughout the meal. Their setup is a little unorthodox in ordering and paying up front and getting your own drinks, but the food was delivered quick and with a smile. We had the smoked meat loaf (wish the serving was a little bigger but it was awesome), fajita chicken pecan salad and 3 of the kids meals. All tasted great. Don't be fooled like we were by the positive reviews. This place is worse than bad. I have no clue why there are good reviews other than the owners or people with really bad taste are making them. Our Texas tumbleweed appetizers were nothing like the photos on the table. Overcooked to almost chocolate brown and served with worst tasting bottled BBQ sauce I have ever eaten. Service was really bad, we waited 25 minutes for our food and not one server came to ask how we were doing, though they were for other tables. My wife and I both ordered the simple chicken fried steak dinners. I have cooked in restaurants long enough to know exactly what we got. Frozen pre-breaded steak patties dropped into weeks old grease in a deep fryer. They were terrible and an offense to any respectable chicken fried steak. The green beans were served in a small bowl on the plate and they must have had cream gravy mixed into them on purpose. Even the Texas toast bread was stale before they greased it up and grilled it. I have never eaten a worse meal in DFW and honestly have had better at a elementary school cafeteria. Two alka seltzers later, and I still feel woozy. read more

The gravy was cream style but was made with bacon drippings. What is not tool enough about bacon. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I thought the pricing was very reasonable considering the amount of food and the quality of food served. Next time I am going to try the fried catfish! Super great food and the employees are always nice. The manager used to shop at my Kroger and would stop by and ask how me and my boyfriend were doing. He recognizes his customers and is very kind. We always enjoy a date night here. The food is country style but we never really go home feeling gross like one would if they ate country fried foods elsewhere. I read the five star reviews prior to coming here, but I have to say I am still amazed at how good everything is. I had the meatloaf at the guys suggestion. My wife had the chicken salad my kids had chicken tenders. Everything was so good I did not want to let any of the generous portions go to waste. We decided we had to try the smores. They were great! But the guy at the register insisted I try the banana pudding. It was fantastic. All in all we tried about 10 things on the menu and everything was great! The restaurant has a contest where you can put your receipts in a box that votes for 1 of their 6 selected charities.
