My husband got the Chicken Fried Chicken, and I got the Nolan Hamburger. Both our dinners were great, and the staff was super friendly. My husband also got the banana pudding to go, small portion for the price, but it was awesome as well. We will definitely go back, next time I will take pictures. :) read more

We just ordered our food with DoorDash and let me just say it was delicious. We ordered the Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. Sides were Mac-cheese, collard greens, and green beans. All were amazing and had very good flavor. The street tacos were enjoyed by my son. They came with the lime rice and beans. He said it was really good and would eat there again. Coming here is like stepping back in time to a restaurant that actually preps and cooks. Remember those? This one does it very well. I have tried several different entrees over the years of coming here, but if I had to choose which one was best I couldn't. My favorites are the chicken fried chicken and the smoked meatloaf. The fried okra is fried crispy, only way to eat okra, and the mashed potatoes and gravy. You could close your eyes and point and no matter what you got you will be happy. After my experience here, I'm confused why they have such a high rating. If anything this restaurant is average. The waitstaff was not overall pleasant. The decor is nonexistent. They also have a fan in a corner of the restaurant which was annoying throughout our whole meal. The food was also average (yes, even the chicken fried steak was average). My whole experience can be summed up with one word: average. Follow up: We came back on Friday for an early lunch and the restaurant was empty. We ordered and waitress/cashier helped us in an efficient nice way. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious! I got the chicken fried steak and it was to die for. Crispy breading and scrumptious gravy make this one of the best Chicken Fried Steaks I've ever had. The catfish was excellent. But that leaves a question, why was the food so much better? I had a little issue not with the food, but with how my order was taken. I was going to let it slide, but decided to address it with the owner. Evidently, he overheard my comment, and before I could even get back to the counter he resolved the issue. My first time. I had heard about it and read reviews. It's a dark, one room space in a strip center with the typical 'Texas' junk on every wall. You don't sit down, you walk to the order window and order. Or stand there and look up at a menu hanging from the ceiling. Luckily no one was behind me. Once you order you pay up front where they ask you to tip. How do you tip on service you haven't received. I ordered the chips and salsa and chicken fried steak which is supposed to be great. I was handed a number and a glass. You fill up your own drink and you get your fork from a holder and your thin paper napkins off the wall. I got my chips and salsa. They are tortillas quartered and fried on site. They are thick. Too thick for chips. The salsa comes out hot. Temperature hot. Beware. It's ok. Probably better cold. It's bottomless but don't expect the staff to offer more or check on you at all. I received my meal in a reasonable time. Steak on top of mashed potatoes with gravy, toast and green beans. Ok portions. I've never liked hiding items. Toast was mostly tasteless. The beans were good but I received mostly a bowel of onion soup and few beans. But like I say the few that were there were pretty good. The potatoes were smooth yet hidden under the steak. So there wasn't much to start with. A little disappointing. The steak was hot. Battered lightly. Steak was decent size. It had a good flavor but a bit chewy. Could have been tenderized more for sure. Staff is loud in the background. Talking to one another. I purposefully went in at 8 pm as they close at 9 per their website. All in all it will probably be my last time to go there. I would not go out of my way to recommend it to anyone. Went there tonight. Food was good but their process needs revamping and the air conditioning needs improvement. The food traffic pattern out a small window into a small room by the register is quirky plus the waitstaff seems to do orders at the register, phone orders, deliver food, bus tables and more.
