We recently had our trailer serviced at Camping World in Madison, WI. We will not be back for any further work. Our experience was not satisfactory, from the initial check-in, to the final bill. We had long wait times for any assistance both in the service department and in the store, did not get call backs as they guaranteed, were told that there was minimal that could be done to resolve the issues and received an exorbitant bill. Lots of representatives present, but they were not interested in waiting on customers...lots of chit chat going on among themselves, but we found only one person who seemed willing to take the time to ask if we needed help...otherwise we were basically ignored. This occurred at times when they were not exceedingly busy, as evidenced by the number of customers present in the store. Our experiences have been different since they have moved into their new location, where Gander Mountain used to be. We purchased our trailer three years ago and received much better service at that time. It is both frustrating and disappointing. Should have read some of the Yelp reviews before going there again. Having worked in a customer service position for over 40 years, I understand what it takes to keep customers and will gladly give a shout out for positive experiences when warranted...this was certainly not one of those. What this company needs to understand is that you treat every customer's visit to your location as if you appreciate their business. read more

Worst service company I have ever dealt with. The two times we used camping world to do warranty work on our $70,000+ camper they left power sources on causing dead batteries on our unit and the one time it even took out other parts when we went to use the power jacks because the low voltage issues... We have the Good Sam extended warranty so we tried to call to set up a warranty issue and called 2 times for the service department left 2 messages with no return calls. Called another Camping World and they answered the first time I called, scheduled an appointment within 10 days, and took care of the repairs with no further headaches... Will never call or recommend the Madison dealership again... read more

They are definitely as good as it gets! We were traveling through Wisconsin in our Jayco Seneca this spring and one of the slides quit working. We called ahead to Camping World and they worked us in. The repair required us to stay overnight so they plugged our RV in and we spent the night. They completed the repair by early afternoon the next day. We were kept up to date with how things were going throughout the morning. Very friendly staff and a big thank you to Joel in the service department and they guys in the shop. Run, don't walk away, RUN AWAY! This dealership was willing to sell an RV with delamination / water damage!!!! In multiple online posts advertising this trailer, none of this type of damage was mentioned, hinted at, or disclosed. Absolute FRAUD! They were trying to sell STOCK NUMBER #1832308 at FULL price...$18,969 after taxes and title!!!! They weren't forthright in specs for the trailer... lots of "I think it has this, etc". The salesman I talked with said that the dealership maintenance KNEW about the WATER DAMAGE after getting the trailer as a trade in but "the damage would cost us [the dealership] too much to fix." If I had not asked the exact right questions, or asked for more pictures, I would have made a VERY long trip out for nothing. No wonder the salesman wanted to start finalizing the sale over the phone. He had the gall to say that "the spot has been sealed already. There will be no more damage with it, it's been corrected." They didn't open up the slide ceiling, walls, or roof to look for moisture, mold, or rot. They have no idea the extent of the WATER DAMAGE, and want to pass this RV to you. If I could give a 0 star that is what this place would get. I am going on my second month of making my loan payment and I STILL DO NOT have my camper. In addition, they completely screwed up the names on the paperwork. This place lacks management and has zero organization skills. If I would not have called and asked when I can finally pick up my camper, I am positive they still would not have ordered my up graded items that we purchased (and paid for) for the new camper. I called for an awning repair back in May, to have the arms replaced on my brand new 2020 Keystone Hideout purchased from the Gander RV Deforest, WI location less than 6 months ago. The earliest I could be scheduled at that location for service was June 23rd, more than a month after I called. After dropping it off for the scheduled appointment June 23rd at 9:30am, I did not receive any calls or updates. I proceeded to call the service department 4 times over the next 8 days, before finally getting a call back 8 days later. They told me the part they JUST identified 8 days later will take another week to get in and then 2 more weeks to have it installed. Long story short, 2 months from initial phone call to installation and zero communication along the way. I would never buy from these guys again. Order the part the day it comes in, and have some professionalism with returning brand new customers phone calls. read more

Over the years I have bought several travel trailers and this is the worst experience yet. Not only did I have to pay $200 for a new battery, I also had to pay $800 for their service department to clean and ensure nothing was wrong with the trailer. What a joke. Delivery was 1-1/2 hours late because their only tow vehicle was taken by a service member and not back in time to meet our scheduled (scheduled a week in advance) delivery time.Upon delivery to our campground, we immediately found issues. First, they forgot to supply any keys so I could not lock up my unit. The promised full LP tanks were half filled at best. Trailer was dirty even though they promised us it would be taken care of. A few minor things we found during closing that were suppose to be fixed, weren't. And as for their punchlist of inspection, it isn't worth the paper they wrote it on. We go to set the trailer and find that the front leveler jacks would not work. Fortunately it was only a blown fuse which was easily fixed, but should have been caught. If it wasn't that this was the perfect all season trailer we had been looking for about a year, I would have walked away in a minute. Do not deal with these idiots. Among many customer service issues, the worst was the financial officer who ripped me off while pretending to be doing it for my benefit. I wanted to put half down on the rv so I wouldn't have to finance so much. I gave them a check for a substantial down payment and during the second meeting to finalize the paperwork, the check had disappeared. I had assumed they found it since nobody ever contacted me. Long story short, they never applied my downpayment and I didn't find out until I received my first payment vouchers that they had financed the entire thing! So now I'm being forced to pay twice as much for the rv than I wanted to. Plan on paying it off early to avoid all the extra interest I was trying to avoid in the first place, but now the loan amount is so high, it will take me longer to pay it off. I believe this was all done intentionally to get the absolute most money they could out of me. They blatantly ignored my wishes during the entire deal, and didn't bother to tell me. I had to find out after the fact when the financing bank sent me my first bill. Crooked financial dealings for sure at this place. They want to get you for the largest loan amount they can! read more

Purchase with CAUTION ... one star rating is being way too generous for the awful experience I encountered with the Gander Outdoors location in Madison WI. My husband and I bought a 2018 5th wheel camper that they had on closeout pricing in February. Due to the snow and ice, they agreed to keep the camper at their location until the first week in April. However, they forced us to finish all paperwork and do a walk through of the camper the last week in February. During this walk through, we pointed out some issues we wanted corrected before actually taking possession in April and the tech told us he would fix these upon our leaving. As we promised, we contacted them one week prior to arrange for the pick up and were told to be there at 8 am. We arrived a bit prior to 8 and checked in, giving our name and the reason we were there was to take delivery of our new camper. Two hours later, we were still waiting. We had made attempts to talk to the people at the desk to see what was taking so long, but this fell on deaf ears and we were ignored. At one point, we were even belittled because in the opinion of the Finance Director, we didn't spend enough. In my opinion, businesses should be happy with any purchase. When we finally were able to take possession of the camper and start heading home with it, we noticed an issue with the backup camera system we had installed by Gander. The image was reversed. Looking at the monitor, we would see a car on the right, but looking at the side view mirror on the car, that same car was on the left. This could have been a major accident if we didn't catch it early. Once home, we noticed that the antenna on the camera itself was hanging (flopping in the wind) by wires. Guess this would explain the loss of connection frequently on the drive home. When inspecting it, we found it was broke and they didn't bother to fix it. We sent a note that night to the Finance Director asking for direction on how to have this issue corrected. We waited several days with no answer. In the mean time, we had the opportunity to go through the camper in decent light and 1) found they did not address any of the issues we pointed out in February and 2) found several other issues that we wanted addressed. Again, these concerns fell upon deaf ears. Finally, I got to the general manager at the store. I told him the story of how long we had to wait to take delivery and the nasty comments made to us - he genuinely seemed upset at what I was saying. He gave us an instore credit to offset some of the "pain". He also promised that when we took the camper back on May 25 for installation of some additional items we purchased for the camper, the rest of the issues would be taken care of. Imagine our surprise when we arrived for that appointment and that caring manager was no longer at that location and no one knew what we were talking about. So as of today, July 10, those extra items were installed, however, not all the other issues have been addressed. We were told early in June that the warranty items would be submitted by June 14 and they would keep us informed. We never rec'd any notification. We kept calling / emailing to see where things stood, but was only given the run around. On July 5, we asked for the name of a VP at the corporate level, but our note was only forwarded to the new general manager at the store. He listened to our complaints, however also made promises that did not happen. He did follow through in sending us a list of the issues (26 of them at this time) so we could compare to our notes. We sent an email in response on Sunday, July 7. Today, I followed up with a phone call. Of course, he never even opened the email. He gave us a call and admitted there is issues in their procedures and our case hasn't been handled properly. All this is at our expense as we had bought this camper to use on outings this summer. We have had to cancel some due to not getting the camper back and one for personal reasons. I would strongly advise anyone interested in purchasing an RV of any kind to avoid Gander Outdoors / Camping World and go to a smaller dealer. In the long run going to a smaller dealer may cost a bit more, but the customer service received at the smaller dealer with go much further. read more

We purchased a new 2014 Itasca Solei - no small purchase! - from Camping World of Madison (located in DeForest, WI) It would take eight pages to list all our concerns with this dealership...I know because that is how long the letter is that I wrote to Mr. Marcus Lemonis (CEO of Camping World)...a letter that never received an answer as promised on posters displayed in Camping World stores, stating that Mr Lemonis personally guarantees his customers, 'total satisfaction'. The employees of CW will be very friendly and promise 'exceptional customer service' ...until they cash your check! After that you will have to deal with questionable repairs...conflicting answers to important questions - IF you even get an answer...ridiculously long times RV has to stay in the shop......poor communication and an overwhelming feeling that you made a HUGE mistake buying an RV from this dealer. We WILL NOT go back to Camping World and we WILL NOT recommend this dealer to anyone! We have given them almost a year of second chances - to make things right - I think that is fair enough. Currently we are scheduled for an appointment at the Winnebago factory in Iowa so they can address all the issues Camping World left unresolved. We have also located another Winnebago Dealer to work with...so far it has been a refreshing change from Camping World. read more

My husband and I have purchased 2 travel trailers from Camping World Deforest in the last 2 years. One brand new and one a few years old. We paid for an extended warranty on the new camper and now find ourselves in the need of a repair. My husband contacted the salesman we used for both our purchases and he got us in contact with the right person at the Deforest location. However, we are now 3 weeks into our request for someone to come make our repair and have not had much contact from Camping World. Most of the communication has been initiated by my husband with the promise of a call back but that call has not come. We were told the person in that position is new so my husband even provided him with a copy of our purchase of the extended warranty in the hopes we could move the process along faster. That was almost 2 weeks ago and no word back from Camping World. They appear to be selling a product (extended warranty) they are not able to fulfill on their end. We had an issue when we moved our camper to our seasonal campsite that also took forever to resolve. It was late in the year (Oct) and we discovered that our propane tanks were empty. Clearly there was no inspection done on our camper because they would have realized there was no propane in the tanks. Going to see what happens this week otherwise going to file a complaint with Dept of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection. My feeling is once they have your money they are really not worried about taking care of you. I'm sure we can find someone to make our repair in less time but we have paid for the extended warranty and as you can imagine it was not cheap. I tried to find someplace on the Good Same website to write a review but have not found anything yet. read more

I bought a brand new 2018 Coleman camper from them, they treat you like royalty until you do not want to purchase their expended warranty etc, then whole mood changes! They want you out the door now! Fast forward 30 days, my brand new camper is leaking! The customer service on this deal is even worse, they do not call you back and refuse to be accommodating in anyway! The service department told me "that is why you do not buy a new camper" and the finance manager informed me " we can't do anything for you cause you didn't buy our extended warranty" They have had my camper the entire summer (which I am still making payments on) and refuse to give me a camper to use for a weekend! The absolute worst place to buy a camper. We found a camper online we liked. Called to be sure it was in stock since we live over 2.5 hours away. We get there and it mysteriously was sold in that time. (Was never available) [bait/switch #1] After looking at others that were not what we traveled here for, they suddenly can get us a newer model shipped for $1000 more. [Bait/switch #2] We asked if they can get the newer model price closer to the 2018 one we came for. After the sales manager came out and talked vague circles for a while, they say they can get the 2019 for the 2018 price. We ask twice since this seems too good to be true. Sales manager confirms. We go over all the financing(more circles)...couldn't even give us an approximate interest rate. Ok fair enough, it's Saturday and we understand. We start filling out paperwork and signing things. We have our card out for the downpayment and looking over the paperwork, I notice a very small '18 in front of the name of the camper and on top of the form writing. We asked if it was the length and what do you know!? It means 2018!? So we negotiate for a new 2019, and they tried to pull a fast one and hope we didn't notice it was a 2018 instead of a 2019! [Bait/switch #3] The sales manager came out saying they need to keep the lights on and they wont make money and basically scolding me while I was getting up to leave. Sales manager is an arrogant prick. We ended up going to Wagners RV in Manitowoc and getting a interest rate right away, they had the camper we looked at online, and everything is included in the sticker price. No extra delivery fee, setup, and other extra fees like Camping World which added over $1500 to the sticker price. We spent $2000 more here and got much better service than the big Corporate Camping World. read more

We took our camper here for service and repairs. The lack of communication regarding the cost of the repairs was ridiculous. Justin and Jason's lack of customer service skills is unbelievable. For a retail organization that makes such a large sum of money off of people they need some training in the art of making the customer happy. Do not buy from them. We bought a 2016 Coleman camper, and we're on our 3rd computer board for the furnace. They don't stand behind their products. They don't make it easy to get the camper in to fix it. They sent us to someone else to do the work who couldn't file the claim through our warranty. Now we have to work to get our claim paid. Arrived on 8.7.15 out of Ohio. Just stopped in to get a tube of roof leveling chalking. They had only two registers long lines with some type of confusion at both registers. Meanwhile the service desk had plenty of guys behind computers at the counter, hopefully not playing games, and nobody offered to get up to see if they could help out. Camping World customer service SUCKS. They really have no customer skills at all. They are not interested in you as a consumer but willing to take your money. We finally ending up buying an rv from them but had many problems afterwards, they don't seem to answer there phone calls after leaving numerous messages. There finance manager David A. was so rude to us. He is in the wrong business. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there to buy an rv there. Camping world of Wisconsin provided excellent service from start to finish. We received our 2017 coleman 3015bh with the best price and service over any other camping world. The finance guys provided the financing that was superior and even shipped the unit to me and sent registration directly to DMV. The general manager followed up by contacting us to ensure the service met our expectations. Great service and customer relations is why this camping world is A+ with us. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS LOCATION My story begins in November 2013. My wife and I purchased a beautiful travel trailer from the Camping World in Island Lake, IL (CWIL) This was perhaps the best buying experience I've ever had. This is where the fun ends. After purchasing the trailer, the service center did an overall check on the trailer. I had requested that I pickup the trailer two weeks after purchase as I don't have a truck big enough to haul it and therefore rely on family. One week prior to pickup it was discovered that there was an issue with the awning and the part needed to be shipped via a flat bed truck and therefore would take two weeks to arrive. This was a problem since I made special plans to have to moved that weekend. Anyway, upon pickup I told CWIL that I wanted everything in writing and they promptly obliged (including what was found, part numbers, and purchasing info). In the note it was stated that I would take the trailer to Camping World of Madison (CWM) for the repair in April at the beginning of the season. Fast forward to April 2014. Since I knew the part would take CWM two weeks to receive I called them early and described the situation; letting them know that I had it all in writing and that I would happily e-mail them a copy of the notes from CWIL. I described how I depended on other people to tow the trailer and that I would like to move the trailer in the second week of May. I requested a specific scenario (and admittedly would have been quite the stretch), where I would deliver the trailer on a Saturday, they could make the repair in a few hours, and we would be on our merry way. My how I was mistaken. I was immediately met with "Service Techs don't work on Saturdays" and "We don't know if this is possible", but this was not the worst of it. I was then told that the trailer needed to be at their location in order for the problem to be diagnosed and the part ordered. They blamed the trailer manufacturer on this policy. I told them that the problem had already been diagnosed and sent to them via the notes from CWIL. They acknowledged this but basically it did not matter. The trailer had to be there. Therefore, I had to schedule a special trip to have the trailer towed early. After much finagling and extra expense I got the trailer to CWM. I knew at this point my goal of having the trailer at its final destination on time was in jeopardy since the malfunctioning part would take two weeks. Therefore, I pushed the date back a week. While I was at CWM I ordered a couple extra parts to be installed including an extra battery (more on this later). Two weeks after I dropped off the trailer, and a week before I was to pick it up I get a call from CWM stating that parts would yet again not be in on time. They did not order them or even look at the trailer for a week! I was beside myself. I asked them if they could take a part out of an existing trailer on site and swap it out. I basically begged them to get this done on time. None doin...... They simply would not budge. At this point I was furious and contacted just about everybody I could, including the trailer manufacturer. A day later I received a call from the head of customer service from the trailer manufacturer and they told me that it was NOT their policy to have the trailer on site for them to send out a part. He got on the horn with CWM and eventually the part was delivered and installed. I thought this was the last of CWM I would have to see, but I was wrong......... A few weeks ago, I got a call from the person that was storing the trailer that the battery I had purchased was not holding a charge. The battery was still under warranty. I called CWM and asked them what their procedure was and was told that the purchase receipt was in the system, I could bring the battery in for testing and they would swap it out. No problem.... NOT! After I got the battery, I took it over to CWM and the girl at the counter didn't know the policy so she went and talked with service and returned a few minutes later. This is when I was told the "Exide Battery Man" needed to test the battery (he was only at location a couple times a month), that CWM techs don't test batteries and that I would either need to purchase a new battery, to which they would credit me later OR leave the battery and pick a new one up later on (like I live just down the street). They wouldn't just swap the battery out. Needless to say, I left once again very unhappy and made it a point to make it to CWIL that same day, where they swapped the battery NO QUESTIONS ASKED and the tech tested the battery right then and there. Camping World of Madison provided the WORST customer service experience I've ever had. Not once did they try to make it right. I don't believe I asked for anything that was unacceptable. Finally, I hope somebody finds this information useful and goes to another RV dealership for their RV needs. read more

Can't say enough good about everyone at Camping World Madison. We knew what we wanted and worked with Matt in sales to get it done. He was very helpful from order to pickup. Columbus came from factory with a couple of minor issues and Camping World would not let us do our PDI until they had everything fixed. They did and all has been great. We picked it up in April 2016 and have 5000 miles on it already. Everything has been working great including the couple items they had to fix. All around great experience and will continue to recommend to everyone I know. read more

We just purchased our 2nd camper from Bob. We did shop around and were disappointed. The moment we walked in we were treated like family! If you are there to help yourself and buy a product on the shelf, no problem. If you require help from staff-parts dept./floor help do not go here. I have been there 4 times with questions for parts for my rv and will not go there again. Staff ignores you and at all times I have been there everyone presents themselves as angry and uninterested helpers. There must be a management issue at this store and I have no idea how the retail store is in business except that people like me are looking for parts or items for their campers. Look on the web and search for another business to spend your hard earned money at. read more

Great selection of RV's. Watch out for upselling at your closing. The "extras" are extremely expensive and they never tell you the total dollar amount just how much it will add to your monthly payment (minimal) but ends up being thousands of dollars.. I have been promised a refund of the additional coverages since September 2015 and am still waiting. Not good at follow-up at all! read more

We had a very bad experience with the Parts and Service Dept. at Camping World in De Forest, Wisconsin. We had an appointment for Mon., April 27th, 2015. They had told us ahead of time our Motorhome would be tied up for 3 days. Since we knew that, we made arrangements to visit relatives around La Crosse, WI. Camping World was suppose to diagnose and fix our hydraulic leak, fix a broken bedroom wall light and were also suppose to give us our Annual 22-Point Free Inspection for being a Good Sam's Club Member. We arrived back on Thurs. April 30th. to pick up our RV. They said they had ordered the parts right away and requested overnight service. Since the parts never came in, they did no follow-up to check on the order. We asked them to call to see what was going on. The parts had never been shipped yet. They then told us the parts would be in the next day. The RV was in one of their bays and could not be moved, so we ended up staying in a motel that night. We kept following up with them on Fri. and the parts never did arrive. We ended up staying another 3 nights in a motel because it was over the weekend. We followed up with them on Mon. May 4th. The part to fix the hydraulic leak came in. They supposedly repaired that. We discovered they had not ordered the new bedroom wall light. They said they would have it shipped overnight. By Thurs., it still hadn't come in. I asked if they did any follow up on it. No, they hadn't. They then told us the part would be in on Fri. By Mon. it still hadn't arrived. We had stayed at a nearby RV Park an extra week waiting for this light. We finally said we had to get back to Michigan. We asked if they could have the light shipped to the Camping World in Grand Rapids, MI and we would run the RV up there, a 185-mile round trip. On May 26th., the Camping World in Grand Rapids fixed our light. We told them we couldn't level the RV since we had it fixed at the Camping World in De Forest, WI. After checking, they found out that when De Forest fixed our hydraulic leak, they had installed a Pressure Switch for 50 PSI instead for 3000 PSI. Grand Rapids ordered the correct part. We had to make another 185 mile trip to Grand Rapids on June 18th. so they could install the correct one. As far as the 22-point inspection done at De Forest, it was a joke. We had never received a copy, so I called and asked them to email it to us. Everything was checked okay and was dated May 4th., the day we picked up our RV. Funny thing is, they told us it had been done a week earlier when we first took it in. Grand Rapids agreed to do another inspection. They found all the tires were low on air and one turn signal burned out. De Forest had checked all of these as being okay. While our RV was in the bay at De Forest, something scraped along the front of the RV and took the paint off in several spots. We showed this to them. They did buff some of them out. We now will be taking it to an Auto-body Shop to paint and fix the remaining deeper scratches. Needless to say, Camping World in De Forest, WI will never touch our RV again. When we left De Forest, we asked them if they could compensate us for all the extra time and expenses we will have to incur due to their poor service. With much hesitation and discussion, they finally did agree to give us 2 Shell $50.00 Gas Cards. We always put our RV in storage over summer and remove collision from our insurance saving us about $60.00 a month. We have not been able to do that so far this summer since we've needed to use our RV to travel to the businesses that are repairing the damages caused by Camping World in De Forest, WI. read more

My wife and I bought a used camper and brought it to Camping World to have it inspected. They found that the seams were bad and quoted a cost to reseal the camper. When we showed up to get the camper, there was a large seam in the front that had not been touched and they did not do the wheel wells where it meets the camper. I should Tyler in service what I was not happy about and he was very nice about it. I was under the impression they'd take care of it since they skipped it. Today, I received a call asking for another $135.00 (their hourly rate, yikes) to seal what they should have done to begin with. I told them to forget it and I will either do myself or take it to another camping place. Be forewarned that they are not very clear on what they will be doing and may try to get more out of you. Not very good business and as my wife pointed out after a very confusing trip there Saturday, "they are not very together". read more
