I go to Dick's several times a year, trying not to buy everything online and they never fail to disappoint. I always wonder, why do I keep coming back to this place? Well, I won't make that mistake again. Why? 1. You'll never find a good deal here. It never ever happens. Prices are high and don't come down 2. Service is terrible. Particularly in the shoe department where staff make you feel like they are doing you a favor to (slowly) get the shoe you request 3. Return policy. Worst I've encountered. Not industry standard 4. The amount they pressure you to sign up for their rewards program. Irritates me every time. 4. Management. Manager handled a transaction and made a major error. That's ok, everyone makes mistakes. When I returned 2 min later to point it out he wouldn't make eye contact and avoided me even though I was feet away. He left it for an associate to correct the mistake he made. I wouldn't call this a sporting goods store at all. It's just a clothing store. They have virtually no sporting equipment there. I was looking for soccer equipment, and they had maybe a few balls and a few pairs of socks. Absolutely ridiculous. No wonder everyone shops on Amazon and at big boxes retailers now. read more

My boyfriend derives great joy from looking at fishing lures, so we end up here a lot. It's basically the same experience every time: + the store is clean and organized + there's a bunch of sale & clearance items - several of those items are under signs boasting 75% off, but any of the good stuff has a sticker that denotes priced as marked - employees are almost never on the floor to help if you need something + a polite teen will ring you up downstairs once you've found things on your own The main thing that sticks out to me at this store is the one time we did track down an employee who was stocking to do a price check, she left to find the price and never came back. Not only did she not come back to us, she also just left her half-empty box in the aisle and didn't return to that either. So bizarre. We were there for another 15 or 20 minutes after asking her to check for us and didn't see her anywhere in the store on our way out. Long story short - the store itself is pleasant enough if you know what you need and you're looking for common, mainstream, hobby items. I was in town visiting Madison for a few days and I needed some athletic clothing so I stopped by this Dick's and I had a great experience. I got some sweet shorts and a jacket on sale and the staff was super friendly. Tessa K was helpful in pointing me to where I needed to go since I'd never been to the store. When I got to that section of the store, I couldn't find any other employees so I went back and asked her for help and she was very polite and helped me out and got me everything I needed. I wanted to try on a pair of shorts, so I walked around until I found the fitting room. A little red sign says "push" for service. Loving to push buttons I felt compelled by the power of Christ to oblige. I waited for a while, and no one came. So I pushed the button again. As I stood just outside the fitting room door I decided to give the handle a nudge and lo and behold it opened. By the time I was done trying on the shorts I came out of the fitting room and noticed that the button had stopped flashing, so I pushed it again because clearly it was just one of those dummy buttons where you push it and nothing really happens. Onto the basketballs, I grabbed myself a standard Wilson B-ball and headed to the check out nearest the mall entrance. Mr Hunkasuarus Rex was manning the check out, and while he was easy on the eyes his apparent lack of brain power did not cater well to my impatience. He was waiting on some woman with a rugrat who had confounded him into a drooling stupor with her super mom multitasking abilities, all whilst the rugrat beat the counter with a cheese head hat. I gave up and decided to try a different register near the exit to the outside. There was a long line there. The Dicks were out in full force here today. This cashier looks up in mid-transaction and says "does anyone need to make a purchase?" To which the dude in front of me holds up his merchandise confusedly. Just what the hell are we doing in this line of hurry up and wait??? Dick must have not wanted to wait on me specifically because a few moments later he looked me in the eye and said "there are other registers open that have no wait." To which I said "I ain't leaving buddy." Secretly I knew that hunkasaurus Rex on the other side of the store was still tapping a Dick club card on his forehead waiting for an epiphany. Part of their problem is that they have to try and sell you an insurance plan with every piece of equipment you buy, along with trying to get you to sign up for a club card so you too can be a Dick. By the time I got through with my purchase it suddenly dawned on him to call for help. He speaks into his mic head set "can I get some help up here? The line is pretty long." To which I turn to see about 20 other highly annoyed faces waiting in line. I used to really like going here to see Dicks. But their customer service has fallen below the acceptable level. No one is on the floor to help you, yet they have cashiers who try to up sell the hell out of you. What a bunch of dicks. read more

This review is not for the store as a whole-as a whole I really hate Dicks. Dicks is essentially the worst. Their shoe section isn't great, the people on shoes never seem to know anything about said running shoes (even now that they have the treadmill), I can never find readily available salespeople. This review is for Geoff, their archery specialist. And by specialist, it should mean "total expert" This man is amazing. He is super knowledgeable, patient, and an expert at what he does. He fit me in my first bow and gave me a heck of a starter archery lesson. He had soo much info to share and made it so I learned quickly. I will be back for all of my archery needs and questions if he is there. I cannot say enough good things about this man and how he helped me. After fitting my bow, my husband made an appointment with him to get his bow tuned up as well. Geoff is the best. read more

I tagged along with my husband on his quest to buy ammunition (not as charming as it sounds) to this place when they were having their hugely hyped tent sale. I'm a curious sort, so I wandered out to the tent. Yikes, what a waste of canvas and my time. If those are clearance prices then I'm Queen of the Nile. The employee who helped with the ammunition (inside, that stuff does not go on sale) was courteous, and we didn't have to wait very long for him (it's one of those 'press the button and wait' deals). In fact, he soft of jogged over, which I appreciated. I don't love the set-up at the registers. You stand on the side by the counter until it's time to swipe your credit card and sign the screen, then you walk around to the front of the register. It's not painful or anything, but it feels very awkward, and the young man working the register was not especially charming (but better than the person at the register the last time I was there, she was a unhappy camper). I don't need people to befriend me, but I like it when they aren't actively bored and/or wishing for death. read more

WOW can I rate a ZERO. I NEVER come to Dicks after several crappy experiences......summary... Wait around for several minutes several times just to get let into a change room. They treat you like a criminal when you want to try something on. When you ask for help they respond like you're interrupting their day!. One person at the check out with several people lined up...a few dozen employees wandering around aimlessly doing nothing. The quality of several things they sell is so poor. I tried out an elliptical and it just about fell apart in the store. We looked at shoes and after a few requests of sizes they didn't have any in what we wanted. How do they stay in business and keep expanding. Im shocked. I would rather drive to Scheels in Eau Claire or Oshkosh before going to Dicks. I have no affliction with either store. There is a massive difference between there 2 sporting chains. I rarely compare 2 stores but go to both and see for your self. read more

We go on a Sunday to purchase all 3 of my children soccer shoes, soccer balls, socks, soccer cleats, and chin guards. We were in the store for 45 minutes and couldn't get anyone to help us. We flagged down one kid asked for a shoe in a particular size. They were out. We asked for 3 different shoes and the didn't have any of them in my kids sizes. So finally I asked them to bring us anything in these 3 sizes. He finally manages to bring us 1 pair of soccer cleats and then disappears. The shoes he brought us were $174.99. That's it? That's all you have to offer us. We waited 15 more minutes and finally just left. We sat in the shoe department for 45 minutes. We were expecting to spend $300.00 on soccer gear today but if I can't get anyone to help us. I'm now going home to order everything online from Amazon. read more

Waste of my time. Though they have many products, and plenty of apparel, most of it is geared towards teenagers. I live in Wisconsin - XL and XXL shouldn't be hard to find. And on top of it, there was no service (nobody whatsoever on the floor, only the registers), and the cashier was extremely rude. Prices for a sweatshirt ($160 - are you insane???) were outrageous, most apparel was extremely high priced ($30 for a team T-shirt)... I will not be back again. Horrible experience. read more

While Dick's is a large store, the employees do not seem interested in helping customers. My wife and I were there for over an hour and no one ever asked if we needed anything. The only time an employee could be found was when we pushed the button to get into a fitting room. Even then, they just opened the door and walked away. They never asked if we needed help. Then when checking out, the cashier was so unfriendly, it was frustrating. Two stars only because of they had what we were looking for. Service rates a zero!!! read more

The only way to save money here is to use as many coupons as you can! Their clearance items are always priced well. Their sales are pretty reasonable as well. I love coming here for active wear and sports gear for the kids. It can get pretty pricey but you have to him for the deals. I like the fact that they can look up items you've purchased by the card you used so that you don't have to worry about being able to return or exchange an item if you've lost or misplaced the receipt. This place is nice and clean it's pretty easy to find some items. I don't like the fact that they don't have one place for socks. They have socks scattered throughout the entire store! Which, I guess I can understand that they're putting socks in areas where they would think people would look for socks. Like soccer socks near the soccer shoes and whatnot. But seriously, I think we would be happy to find socks in their own aisle where we can look for Nike socks or adidas socks or whatever. The next think I have an issue with the fact that it's really hard to find a staff member if you need help. They are everywhere but they always seem to not work in the department you need help with. It's confusing. Sometimes I have to stop whoever walks near me and ask for help only to find that they don't work in that particular department and then they call someone and the person who works in that department is on the other side of the store. Sheesh! Anyway, this place can be a good place for outdoor gear or sports gear. So I recommend giving this place a shot. read more

Received excellent customer service while shopping kayaks at Dick's Sporting Goods .... in spite of being towards the end of season, there was a nice variety of inventory, plenty of options to compare vessels. Since I am only 4'11" I expected finding a smaller sized Kayak could be a challenge, but with the help of the attentive and friendly sales rep, Norm, we found the perfect match (a spiffy 9XL) which looked almost perfect... plus (win-win...) fantastic sale price! Norm pointed out that in spite of my eagerness, he'd really prefer to have me sit in the boat, and make sure that I felt confident with how it would handle. That said, I spent another 40 minutes walking through the store looking for accessories (paddle/life- jackets/rope/anchor, etc.) and found everything to be clean, organized and neatly stocked. As I mentioned, our sales representative offered great tips, and gave up his lunch hour to patiently help me find a proper paddle (needed 190 CM) and the smaller life-jacket. He didn't even roll his eyes when I couldn't settle on a color, he'd simply return to another aisle and find me another. I observed a cooperative attitude, and friendly banter between Norm and other Dick's staff while helping us carry our treasures to the cashier on the first floor. He then insisted on helping us out the door to our vehicle! Both my husband and I agreed that we will definitely go back for future purchases, based on the great experience I had with this recent shopping trip! read more

I am really impressed with the service level in the East Towne Mall Dick's! Everyone that I came across on my last visit was friendly and personable. This is usually hard to come by in retailers like this, and with the economy you don't see a lot of retailers being able to have so many employees who seem to have a passion for the sports and appreciate my business. read more
