He immediately insisted (more like demanded) that we needed new ducts as well as a new system. When I told him that we wanted a unit with a higher SEER rating for energy efficiency and lower electric bills, he dismissed my suggestion as if I was stupid for even asking about it. My guess is that they have some sort of deal with Goodman, because that is the brand that they forced on us. What was the grand total you ask? Over $20,000. And that was 8 years ago! Not only did they NOT replace all of the ducts (like they said they would) their installation was the most Mickey Mouse-looking trash I have ever seen. They must have put at least 5 pounds of mastic tape around the unit to try and seal it up and it still leaked cold air after a week of use. These are scam artists masquerading as professionals. Even after that ordeal was over, they would call us constantly, year after year, telling us we needed to pay for a tech to come out and service our system. Besides hosing off our compressor unit with our own garden hose, the only thing their tech ever did was aggressively try to sell us on more services. They never once opened up the unit to clean the coils. They never once topped off the coolant. They never even cleaned out the condensate pipe. 8 years later and I am paying the price with outrageous cooling bills, a leaky unit that is more mastic than air conditioner, and a clogged condensate line that I had to clean out myself (it took about 5 minutes once I had the right tool). Do not let these people into your home. There is a reason that you see so many one-star reviews among the four and five-star ones. Do not disregard those reviews (they are real people). This company will take advantage of anybody who is not particularly knowledgeable about HVAC. They are pushy and rude; they will try to sell you products and services that you do not need. They will continue to harass you with phone calls for years afterwards. Stay away. Stay far, far away.

While the $99 service fee and scheduling communication were prompt, the actual service fell far short. Prior to his arrival, my husband had already diagnosed that our AC needed a new dual capacitor. We wanted a professional to confirm this and check our upstairs vents, which aren't blowing sufficient air. Victor confirmed the capacitor issue, but quoted $400 for the replacement. Knowing the part costs ~$17 on Amazon and is a simple fix, we declined. My husband easily replaced the capacitors for both our upstairs and downstairs units in 30 minutes, and both are running perfectly. What made the experience truly unprofessional was the lack of effort once we declined the repair quote. We asked Victor to take a look at our upstairs vent issue while he was still here, but he refused to investigate further. Paying a $99 diagnostic fee should cover a thorough assessment of our reported concerns, regardless of whether we agreed to an overpriced repair. Instead, he took payment and left. Given their high rating, I expected a much better experience. Refusing to address a customer's secondary concern simply because we declined an inflated price tag is poor customer service. I won't be using Spectrum Heating and Air again, nor can I recommend them. We will be taking our business to another local HVAC provider for our future maintenance needs. Quite disappointed by high markups and incomplete service.

Update: Someone else literally just fixed my issue a couple hours later for $200 and guess what, I…read moredidn't need a single pound of freon added to my unit! I have to give this company a very low rating despite the fact that everyone I spoke and dealt with was generally very polite including the technicians that paid me a visit, although they may have tried to unnecessarily up sell me (details below). Obviously I've been having issues with my AC... it's not blowing cold air in my downstairs at all, despite working fine upstairs. These guys came checked the attic and ducts and reported no leaks... which doesn't exactly make sense according to a friend I have in the HVAC industry based on the type of issue I'm having.... By default theses guys say they need to service my unit and recharge it with Freon... cool right? According the the technicians the company charges $250 per pound of R-410A Freon... wtf?! ...boy am I glad I checked in with my HVAC friend because apparently I needed almost 3 lbs to recharge the unit so my cost would have been $750 just for Freon + $175 emergency visit fee... $925 and probably would not have addressed the source of the problem. According to my HVAC expert it would be unlikely the unit to be that low on Freon without having some sort of ongoing leak or issue. Furthermore, I'm now just remembering that before we even talked about Freon I was being upsold on the unit itself... because they guys said it's not large/strong enough for the size of my home... which was brand a new construction in 2014 by a reputable builder with a brand new AC unit. I've been the only person to ever live here and the unit has survived 7-8 hot summers with no issues and received service about 6-7 months ago by my guy. Just out of curiosity I called 2 random other HVAC companies specifically to ask how much they charge per pound of Freon and they said $100-120 per pound of R-410A which would have been more than fine in my opinion. Everyone's got to eat and when I googled the cost of Freon it says roughly $50-80 per Freon (screenshot below) so even $150 a pound would be reasonable since it's definitely an emergency because it's been so ridiculously hot here in LA. I'd recommend you don't use these folks but definitely proceed with caution if you do, they might be trying to price gouge unsuspecting folks and up sell them on units that don't need replacing!!! I actually don't even care that I had to pay them $175 for a 15-20 min visit that did not fix anything, my biggest gripe is that they've now wasted more than half my day and I still have to find someone else come out who's not looking to take advantage of a desperate situation!! -K

Ricardo and Agustin replaced both of the cooling and heating units. Because I have asthma two days before they did the work. Ricardo and Agustin brought over a in door cooler. Placing it in the living room, it gave me a room to keep cool so I would not have an asthma attack. Not only are they professional. They are honest and caring. Well it's time for me to write a review for Bernardino's after 20+ years…read more Today they replaced a capacitor on a 20(?) year old Carrier a/c compressor that they installed. In and out, it's was a easy job, checked out the Puron refrigerant for leaks. They also did a walk through on the furnace to see if there was any issues with it, it's 32 years old, nothing there to fix. We also used them on new construction adding a 1T split system that another GC was trying to do......learning on the job, so I took it away from him. These technicians are thorough, clean, quick, and the best part....on time. It's the old saying, you get what you paid for.

Long story short, this company came out to fix my AC. They didn't fix it because their excuse was that recharging it with freon will take all day. They tried to up-sale the management company with a duct cleaning service for my unit and told me they can do that when they comeback to fix my AC???? My manager told me the ducts couldn't be cleaned because they are old and if necessary they would need to be replaced. Mind you I was without AC in 90°+ F weather for a week and a half until they came back today and told me they couldn't clean the ducts but the can fix the AC. Obviously!!!! That was the whole reason why they came out the first time and should have fixed the AC then! It was very frustrating because I also had to miss work the 2nd time for this unnecessary mistake on their part. I hope the management comapny stays away from this AC company.
