We were new homeowners and had only moved in for less than a month when our AC unit went out. It was an ancient unit that certainly needed replacement, but when we called The Right Choice, they arrived with the pushiest, sleaziest salesman you could imagine. He immediately insisted (more like demanded) that we needed new ducts as well as a new system. When I told him that we wanted a unit with a higher SEER rating for energy efficiency and lower electric bills, he dismissed my suggestion as if I was stupid for even asking about it. My guess is that they have some sort of deal with Goodman, because that is the brand that they forced on us. What was the grand total you ask? Over $20,000. And that was 8 years ago! Not only did they NOT replace all of the ducts (like they said they would) their installation was the most Mickey Mouse-looking trash I have ever seen. They must have put at least 5 pounds of mastic tape around the unit to try and seal it up and it still leaked cold air after a week of use. These are scam artists masquerading as professionals. Even after that ordeal was over, they would call us constantly, year after year, telling us we needed to pay for a tech to come out and service our system. Besides hosing off our compressor unit with our own garden hose, the only thing their tech ever did was aggressively try to sell us on more services. They never once opened up the unit to clean the coils. They never once topped off the coolant. They never even cleaned out the condensate pipe. 8 years later and I am paying the price with outrageous cooling bills, a leaky unit that is more mastic than air conditioner, and a clogged condensate line that I had to clean out myself (it took about 5 minutes once I had the right tool). Do not let these people into your home. There is a reason that you see so many one-star reviews among the four and five-star ones. Do not disregard those reviews (they are real people). This company will take advantage of anybody who is not particularly knowledgeable about HVAC. They are pushy and rude; they will try to sell you products and services that you do not need. They will continue to harass you with phone calls for years afterwards. Stay away. Stay far, far away. read more

Stay as far away from this company as you possibly can. They should call themselves the WRONG choice. They called me DAILY, leaving me voicemails telemarketing me to schedule maintenance with them for my AC units. When I finally picked up and made an appointment, the tech never showed up. I never even got so much as a courtesy call from them so I took it upon myself to call them to ask them for an eta so I could move along with my day. Only then did I get an explanation as to why the tech did not show up. I was told they did not call me to let me know that their tech got into an accident because they didn't have my number. How can that be when they were the ones calling me every single day? Being the gullible fool that I am, I rescheduled my appointment. In the two week interim between the rescheduled appointments, I continued to get telemarketing calls from them. I finally pick up and let the gentleman know that we already have an appointment scheduled, to which to my surprise he says there is no record of it. However, he does some digging and speaks with his manager and somehow mysteriously finds it. This time, a tech did show up but did no type of maintenance whatsoever. All he did was check the voltage of the capacitors and then tried to sell me a $1200 package to do an actual maintenance. He did no cleaning of the condensers nor did he check the pressures of the system to make sure we had enough coolant. He did no type of maintenance on the condensers whatsoever. He did remove my two existing filters but DID NOT REPLACE THEM. His reasoning was he did not have the correct replacement sizes in his truck. How can that be when during the setup of the appointment, the filter sizes were gathered by the person making the appointment? They dispatched somebody to replace the filters a few days later but the person only dropped off ONE filter. They had removed TWO filters. When I contacted the office again to ask when they will make me whole with the second filter, I am told they will give me the missing filter that I am owed me when I schedule my next maintenance appointment with them. They left an uncompleted job open and decided to close it only if I schedule another maintenance appointment with them? Now why would I in my right mind ever do business with such an incompetent company ever again? Everyone I've ever dealt with from this company has been incompetent from top to bottom. While the technician was very professional and courteous, they charged me $250 for a part that I later found out costs only $15-$30. I don't mind a markup, but that was extremely excessive. Additionally, I originally scheduled the appointment for the following day using their website only to find out they had no record of it. This company called me two weeks ago, asking if I needed their services. I was given two appointment days to choose from. The first day I picked was unavailable, so we went with the second. That day came and went, no call, no show. The next day I called and set up another appointment for the following day. I received a call 20 minutes before their arrival time, informing me they wouldn't be able to come out today and can we schedule another appointment for a later date. My answer was NO!!! I recommend avoiding this company. They seem to create problems rather than solutions in order to propose extremely costly repairs. They are scammers. They reached out for our scheduled maintenance (pursuant to a 5 year plan they push so they can come and basically do nothing except recommend expensive repairs). Here's what transpired with a pushy, rude technician named Alex. We confirmed Right Choice's bad behavior by having a second company come to assess their work and their recommendations which we just wrong. 1. Alex did not replace the filter for our downstairs system. We paid for your maintenance program such that this should have been done automatically. 2. He left parts unsealed off the furnace downstairs in the basement as well as his trash. 3. He put too small of a filter on the upstairs vent instead of cutting a larger one to size. This means there was a hole causing no filtration. 4. Our downstairs heater didn't work but our AC did. We raised this during the maintenance check. The thermostat was working before he came. He left and the thermostat and AC didn't work at all after he serviced our system. So we were worse off. He came back and claimed that his furnace testing caused the system to fail and now we need to replace it. When I pressed him he admitted he caused a fuse to blow but then failed to replace the fuse on the downstairs furnace so we could use the AC on the lower system. The second company did this in two minutes. His statement that it would just blow after one or two tries was simple speculation and not true. He did nothing to try and rectify the situation and tried to use his mistake as a way to get us to buy a new furnace. 5. He grossly overstated the problem with the furnace stating that it should be fully replaced. The new system would cost $7,000-10,000. Replacing the damaged parts instead was estimated at over $4,000 by him. The new company said it was a simple issue, that the furnace still had a lot of life in it and replaced the furnace inductor for $600 including labor. So Alex was not only negligently incompetent but pushed for expensive solutions that weren't necessary and had a bad attitude. He threatened to raise the price due to the summer season if we didn't accept his proposals on the spot. Meanwhile one of the managers Lorraine pretends to care but is really just a sales woman who will say anything to placate a customer but then disappears when you call them out on their grift. read more

In my search to have an air conditioning system installed, I called The Right Choice. They showed up and gave me an estimate which I signed as acknowledgement. As a practice I usually get multiple estimates and they were the first company to show up. They told me I needed to give them a deposit to hold which I later realized my deposit had been cashed but they did not return to do the work. I called but was told I would not be able to get a refund on my deposit. Taking on a major project was probably not a good idea on my part having suffered a stroke. I did explain this to the manager but she would not take this into consideration in returning my deposit. Their prices are insane, their sales people will not stop harassing you and they outsource all work to unvetted random outfits that slap a Right Choice HVAC magnet on their vans. They undersized my system and then threatened to void my manufacturers warranty if I didn't use them for maintenance. Plenty of competition out there, look elsewhere. They also offer discounts for 5 star reviews which is why you see so many. read more

Our AC had some leaking issues. I called, described my problem, and scheduled an in-person review. A nice gentleman showed up, we exchanged pleasantries and I repeated the information I called in with. He took a look around my apartment said he's never seen my setup before and called his boss who then said they could not do anything. 5-10 minutes and now I'm on the hook to pay the site visitation fee ($65). I understand the costs to run a business, but certainly if your field guy can FaceTime his boss to show a particular hvac set up, you can vet customers before showing up this way. Maybe I'm in the 1% of customers to have this set up (building is maybe 40 years old and the tech knew it was a "pancake" system as he referred to it), but it sure didn't feel good to have a quick glance over for 5 minutes and left holding the bag. They didn't even open the ceiling panel where the system was or try to think it through with troubleshooting. Just a simple refusal to help out. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the field tech was genuine and they gave $10 off. But it should have been free in my opinion. Afterwards I texted them a video of the hvac system opened up and was ghosted. Pretty disappointed at a company with this rating. read more

Updated review: Jeremy came out and fixed my AC unit, cheaper than what I was originally quoted and for a completely different job. Jeremy was great and the actual work was done well. I was told that once Jeremy completed the service, someone from the office would be in touch the next day regarding refunding me the difference in cost between the original quote and the work actually completed (around $560). The next day no one called, so I called towards the end of business day. The person who answered said they would need to speak with the manager and that someone would call me the next day. It is now 6 day later, no call and no word on my refund. I also wonder why I was quoted to need $2,200 of work done and needed a new control panel, when all the AC needed to work was to flush the line. My household needlessly suffered with no AC in 100 degree heat for over two weeks because of this, when it could have been easily fixed the first time they came out. If you do use this company ask for a competent tech and get a second opinion before authorizing any work. After this whole ordeal I would never give this company my business ever again and still would not recommend it to anyone. read more

My Wife and I have a 2 year old Goodman Heater/Air Conditioner. We had it installed by a local contractor who due to contracting COVID and becoming very sick was forced to Close his business. 2 weeks ago the heater stopped working so I contacted Goodman the manufacturer. They directed me to The Right Choice and said they were also authorized Dealers for Goodman and that all the parts were under a 10 year warranty. So I called The Right Choice they said they would come out and do a diagnostic service for 65$. I said OK and 2 days later they showed up. Their TEC did a diagnostic and said the pressure switch was bad and it was under warranty. The TEC said he would get back to me with a cost estimate to replace the switch. 10 minutes after they left the TEC sent the estimate from his truck for $850. REALLY $850 to install a free under warranty part that will take 15 minutes to install???? If this is the way this company operates you had better think twice about hiring them for your New construction project or your residence! read more

I work at home but having them there was no issue. they did a wonderful job, and at the end of the day I had AC that works great! on Monday another crew came and cleaned out and resprayed my attic insulation. April 26, 2019 Update. The Right Choice read my review and was proactive enough to reach out to me and offered a complementary service to makes things right. I scheduled with Billy and their technician came on time and performed the service promptly. He also found a faulty part and they replaced that complimentary as well. They worked hard to earn my business. I'd give them another try next time I have a problem wit my HVAC. I have an older magic chef hvac unit in my Santa Monica condo where the AC was not cooling. Made an appointment easily and conveniently with The Right Choice through Yelp. Technician came on time and did an extensive inspection and took lots of photos. He concluded that a fuse was burnt but many parts needed to be replace for about $1k and even then there was no guarantees that the system would work. So he recommended replacing the entire unit for $7.5k. Next day I got another estimate. Technician examined and detected brunt fuse. After replacing fuse AC was cooling and he concluded system was old but working fine. Did charge me anything but the service call. All good now and feeling a lot cooler with wallet still in Sorry, I can not recommend these folks. read more

Our AC unit was completely dead during the last heatwave. The Right Choice Heating and Air came to the rescue! Sean Elzam is amazing to work with - easy to talk to, knowledgable and kind. I would not recommend The Right Choice. I thought they were a good company but their yelp reviews are misleading. We have had a bad experience and I wish we went with another business. It is very rare for me to leave a 1 star review as I prefer to shower praise on businesses. We purchased a brand new heater and AC unit along with new ducts. The total cost for those items after parts and labor were big numbers. You just don't spend thousands of dollars everyday so I was hoping to be happy with the result. The problem started immediately after installation. We noticed the blower would turn on by itself at random times. Note that the fan was not turned on via the thermostat so the blower was just going on its own. It is impossible to turn off as well. It is a waste of electricity and again this is a brand new unit so there shouldn't be any issues. We called and they said they'll send someone out to repair the unit. About 4-5 visits, hours of unsuccessful repair attempts and many calls later, the issue is still there. This is not acceptable for a brand new heater and AC unit. We are very disappointed. I will have to call once again to try to get the issue remedied but our hopes are diminishing. If they fix the issue for good I will return and update this review to be fair. I consider the Yelp community my network and I would tell you all to please avoid this business. There are other companies that I'm sure would not let this happen. Save yourself the headache.
